Pavilion 500-189: usefulness of adding additional memory to a computer desktop Pavilion 500-189

Hi - I think adding memory RAM additional to my desktop HP Pavilion computer model 500-189, bought in February 2014. It runs under Windows 10 home ed., 64 bit with RAM total to 10 GB. The computer has 4 memory slots and currently only 2 are used: slot 1 has a card 2 GB Hynix/Hyundai 1600 MHz and slot 2 has a card 8 GB Kingston 1600 MHz.

I'm currently pondering adding a single 4 GB DDR3 1600 MT/s PC3-12800 CL11 map of 240 pin unbuffered UDIMM in each of the last two slots to bring the memory total amount up to 18 GB. The total cost would be less than US $40.

My question: This inexpensive upgrade will not improve the performance of my computer or is - this exaggeration only change?

Comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Graphene, welcome to the forum.

Now, we are dealing here with reviews.  The sweet spot for memory seems to be 8 GB with Win 10.  In fact, I read that you will be hard to see a difference between 8 and 16 GB.  I use a laptop of Omen HP with 8 GB memory game.  It manages all the games that I played very well.  As you said, you already have 10 GB of memory and the processor is very fast.

Yet once, is discussed in the opinion.  In my opinion, the best upgrade that can be done today is an SSD.  My HP Omen loads games and programs incredibly quick and starts in 7 seconds or less.  I used a Samsung EVO 840 500 GB SSD in HP Phoenix Gaming desktop computer.  Again, it was incredibly fast.  Here is the SSDthat are recommended by Crucial memory.  They make great products for OEM computers.  I found the research that Samsung SSD seem to work better with HP motherboards and normally don't require changes to the BIOS works properly out of the box.   In addition, Samsung has its own Migration of data and Software Wizard software to fine-tune the SSD after installation.

This should give you pause.  If you decide to go with an SSD, I'd be happy to tell you how I did the installation.  It has worked well for me.

    Hi rockpebblar_1,

What model of laptop you have exactly?

On some laptop computers, you can find a location of memory under the keyboard. This means that you need to remove the keyboard first before you can exchange the RAM.

    Hi all

Of these last two days, there is an additional memory segment created on my hard drive that is named as disk Local (Z), claiming an area of 256 MB, which, if we add in other segments such as C, D, F discs then it will exceed the 1 TB. What is the problem? (I have attached the snapshot of the segments compure hard drive)

There is no problem with this small partition being there.

  • My XP guest uses a lot more memory on the new laptop

I just got a Dell Studio 15 and moved my Windows XP VM to it, and it uses a lot more memory than on my old system.  I don't know how VMWare allocates memory, but on my old system, I saw almost no additional memory used when you start this virtual machine (with the exception of the cache memory), but on the new, it uses almost as much memory that I have assigned to the virtual machine (1024 MB).  It is also worth noting that I use VMWare 7 on a new and 6.5 on the old host.

Anything I can do to get great efficiency that I was getting on my old system?

really not use 2 virtual processors on a host that has 2 CPUs.

What is an Ubuntu 9.10 system?

    Other than adding

    mainmem.backing = 'name '.

    for the vmx file.

This will slow down the virtual machine, but you wanted to do that ;-)

  • Is it useful to upgrade the memory on the Satellite M70 - 394?

Is it useful to upgrade the memory on the Satellite M70 - 394? Where the best place to buy it and what I should go for? How will this affect my laptop? It will void the warranty at all?

    Sorry for so many questions

    Hello

First of all it s worth it to upgrade the memory for portable computers. The increases in performance and the operating system should work better and faster.
Well, I checked a few websites, and it seems that it is possible to upgrade the memory on this laptop to max 2048 MB (2x1024Mo)

As far as I know the laptop came with a 512 MB module. In this case, the second Bank is empty. The memory location is placed at the bottom of the unit. If you want to upgrade the memory to remove the slot cover down and carefully insert the module. I think you'll find instruction how to handle the upgrade memory in the user manual.

In addition, you can order the compatible modules form the Toshiba service partner. In this case, you will be sure that you have taken in charge to 100% and compatible modules.

  • The internal memory of the computer when using iTunes.

Anyone know if I add a movie or a song on iTunes and remove it from the computer, it still occupies the memory of the computer?

    Thank you for your help.

Memory and storage are two different things.  The memory is that the system uses to power the computer, so I don't think it's relevant to your question.  Memory is not used for a song or video, to less than the Mac used to play the song or the video.

For storage, if the iTunes Media in your iTunes library folder has the only copy of the video or the song file, then delete it from your iTunes library by selecting the option to send files to the trash AND empty the trash, will remove it from your storage space.

However, if you have added this video or song manually (from outside of iTunes), iTunes is configured by default (for Mac) to make a copy of the song file or a video for use in its iTunes Media folder.  iTunes leaves the original file where you added since.  Thus, you can have a second copy of the song or the video file in the storage of your computer.  You can do a search using a Finder window on the song or the name of the video, to see if there is still a copy in storage of your computer after the removal of the iTunes library.

Some of the processes running in the Task Manager use a lot of memory in an old machine (laptop), and the amount of additional memory that can be installed is very limited.

Some reasons for the slow pace of the computer:

    4. flaky third party software. Toolbars and modules are particularly guilty in this area. Uninstall toolbars (Google, Yahoo, ISP brand, etc) and look at what modules are in use in your browser (s).

    6. the user runs an inflated/invasive such as Norton and McAfee antivirus program. Replace it with a better program. I recommend NOD32 (commercial) or Avast (free). Avira is also good, but the free version has an unpleasant reminder screen (Google for instructions on how to disable it). The user can also run several real-time antivirus/firewall/security programs.

    7. the user has installed new programs that are processor and/or memory-intensive (Photoshop, AutoCAD, Mathmatica or similar) and does not have the power of the equipment.

  • LaserJet 6 p: laserjet 6 p added unknown memory?

I have a 6 p and it has a memory card installed on one of the 3 available memory slots.

I can't tell what is the size of the memory card and call the manufacturer who said that its model number is no longer available in their database.

I've pressed the button on the printer and got the LaserJet 6 p printed page but it says ' MEt PLC6 2 technology memory improvement mbytes ".  I think that it is the internal memory and does not include the additional memory card.

Is there anyway that I can determine the size of this additional memory card?

Also, when I print the PDF files, it takes a lot of time for each page to print... maybe one minute per page. If I turn to Raster, so that the pages printed normally.  Any ideas on this issue as it only happens with PDF files that I need to print.

Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. using the Win7 for HP LaserJet 6 p printer driver.

I don't think, you can, but there is a trick you can use.  Simply load 2 copies of the printer and label a raster and the other as gl2.  Now in the properties of the appropirate to each parameter and then, when you print a pdf file, you choose the raster printer and when you print everything use you the gl2.  Also, I'm a bit confused about the use of the driver raster and gl2 and those who are usually reserved for desinjet printers that support hpgl2 and pcl3 languages.  You use the pcl5 driver which you should use for this printer.  If this is not the case, try the pcl5 driver and it should work perfectly on PDF files and other printed materials.

  • Upgrade Vista 32 and 64 for the recognition of additional memory and game performance

I have a question for the computer.  I have a HP Pavilion Elite m9040n who has Windows Vista 32 - bit SP2 with 3 GB of memory.  From what I've been able to determine, the 32-bit version doesn't recognize up to 3.5 GB of memory and I need to install the 64 bit version of Windows Vista for additional memory can be installed AND recognized.  This system comes with the Core 2 Quad Q6600 (K) 2.4 GHz, at 1 066 MHz front side BUS and Socket 775.

My question - would be upgrade to Windows Vista 64-bit and install another 4 GB for a total of 7 GB of extra memory for increased game performance.  Also, I have a graphics program which because of some image sizes (up to 96 inches - 19200 pixel everywhere) program that the bombs on me with "out of memory" messages.  I play World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 right now.

    Thank you.

    Just another Hacker ol '

In your case a newer graphics card improve performance much more compared to buying new RAM. You can then add more RAM. "A programmer is just a tool that converts the caffeine in code" Deputy CLIP - http://www.winvistaside.de/

  • you need additional memory

Hi, aurora r4 with 2 x 4 GB ram sticks. I use it for games on simple monitor@1920x1080,would it be useful to add extra RAM to make own quad memory? The cost is £50

    Thanks Martyn

No, no game requires more than 8 GB of RAM.  Only useful if you use applications that have need of additional memory such as editing video, rendering, etc., or if you are in the habit of running several memory hogging application simultaneously.

Also, the memory quad configuration will not give you nice perks in the use of real life on config double memory.

  • Flash player 11.3.300.262 is using a lot of memory

Since the update flash a few days ago, that the plugin uses a lot more memory than usual. He uses normally between 150 MB to 200 MB, but now I've seen him use up to 900 MB.

I noticed that the memory use increases of 5 MB or more, when you browse through a video until I stop the plugin because of the ridiculous amount of memory used.

Please check if all your plugins are up to date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you are there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see in the list of plugins that have a yellow button to update or a red button update now , please put to update these immediately.

To do this, click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps in the installation process.
