Permissions: Access is denied only in Microsoft Word

I have a network domain set to the top with different users and permissions running Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Edition

The permissions should allow X user to edit the files created by another user (holder under the user Y) in a certain folder. However, I'm running in the "access is denied. Contact your administrator"problem when I try to change a Word file and save it. The weird part is that I tested permissions on several different computers, connected to the network (signing as user X) and I only use this problem on 2 of them (out of 4 total that I tested).

All 4 computers, I am able to access the folder and see all the files, I am able to create new files in the folder, and I am able to edit other files for example Notepad .txt files. But when it comes to .docx files, 2 computers do not allow for edition and invites you to 'access denied. Contact your administrator"and save as a new file.

All 4 computers have the same version of Microsoft Office and have the same updated anti-virus in place so I'm not one of the people at the origin of this problem.

If they do not have a file extension valid for a picture as a .jpg or .png then try to rename the files and give them an extension of .jpg file to see if that helps.

Today, when I was looking for a program that is displayed when I select the Start button, I noticed that the number 2 see the next to registration for Microsoft Word 2010.  It looks now like this: Microsoft Word 2010 (2)

I don't think it was like that the other day when I finally used Word.  Any ideas on why it would start that looks like this?  I made no changes to my computer.

I use Microsoft 7 Home Premium.

    Hey Debba,.

-You have two entries in the start menu for Microsoft Word? One is Microsoft Windows Word 2010 (2) and the other is Microsoft Word 2010 Microsoft Office on the start menu?

-Is this Microsoft Word 2010 (2) successfully opened?

-This happens to you with other programs in the list?

If there are two icons for Microsoft Word 2010 on the Start menu, remove the icon of Windows of Microsoft Word 2010 (2).

All you have to do is click on Microsoft Word 2010 (2) and click on remove from this list.

This seems to be only a Microsoft Word 2010 shortcut added to the list of the start menu.

You try to create a scheduled task when you see this error?

You see a message like this:

The new task has been created, but may not work because the account information could not be set.  The specific error is 0x80070005: access is denied.

What are the Microsoft Recs you have tried?

If you work on a scheduled task:

KB904423 is already in SP3, if you have SP3, you do not need to apply that KB (which is not the problem).

If you work on a scheduled task, I don't think that the problem is how you are connected or has something to do with an antivirus program interferes, but you could try these things (but I don't think they will help).

  • Appropriate access is denied

On Windows XP Professional SP3 I tried to take possession of the C:\Program Files folder, using the method described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421, but after selecting the new owner (admin user) and clicking on apply, there is always an error:

    Security
Unable to set new owner on Program Files.
    Access is denied.
The system works correctly, except that when you try to install & H R Block tax software, installation fails when trying to set permissions. Which lead me to discover that despite be logged in as an administrator and have all permissions on the folder, I still could not take ownership.  There is none of the folders encrypted on this machine.  Many other packages have been installed, including the other years of & H R Block.  I can create and delete folders under Program Files.   On the owner tab, there are only two options under name: the admin user and the Administrators (the current owner) group.  What must I do in order to manage this file?

    Hi Ron,

I would say you turn off all antivirus and firewall on the computer and then try to take ownership of the folder and check if you are able to take possession of the file.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Original title: in the c drive security permissions

    Hi Ravindra,

Thanks for posting your question on the Forum of the Microsoft community.

Permissions are rules associated with objects on a computer or network, such as files and folders. Permissions determine whether you can access an object and what you can do with him. For example, you might have access to a document in a shared folder on a network. Also, refer to:

What to know before applying permissions to a file or folder

According to your error message. I would like you try these steps and check if the problem persists.

    Steps for the reader:

    a. click on the drive, click Propertiesand then click the Security tab.
    b. click Advancedand then click the owner tab.
    c. click change, and then do one of the following:
    (d) to change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click other users and groups and enter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group and then click OK.
    e. to change the owner to a user or a group is listed in the change of ownership of the area, click the new owner.
    f. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the disc, select the Replace owner of subcontainers and objects of the box.
    g. click OKand then click Yes when you receive the following message appears: you are not allowed to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the the directory permissions with permissions granting you full control?
    h. all permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.
    i. click OK.

    Check if the problem persists.

Hope this information is useful. If the problem still persists, please post back for further assistance, we will be happy to help you.

  • An error occurred applying attributes to the file. Access is denied?

    Hello

I use Windows 7. I reinstall my Windows 7 and since then, most of my file become encrypted (Green shows in Explorer).

I came across a strange behavior where I am not able to use or to decrypt files. I dint knew the encryption.

I am the administrator on my computer running Windows 7. I get the following error
    --------
An error occurred applying attributes to the file.

    Access is denied.
    --------

I have no key encryption nor do I created everything.

    I tried the following:
When I right click on the file > properties > go to advance > uncheck the encryption > apply changes > continue (user account control) > I get this...

"An error occurred applying attributes to the file:

    C:\Program Files\Windows Collaboration

    Access is denied.

Ignore. Ignore everything. Try again. Cancel. »

It is a small very annoying problem that I need to have go further, any help would be appreciated!

    Points to note:

    Safe MODE does not help.
I am logged on as administrator, what makes it more frustrating.

I do not know of the all other folders that Act up like this.

Please let me know what happens! THESE FILES ARE VERY IMPORTANT

    Hello

    1. what security software is installed on the computer?

    2. what version of windows 7 is installed on the computer?

    3. of what exact file you try to remove the encryption?

    4. have you installed windows on the C partition or another partition?

    Method 1.

To resolve this issue, give the system security principal of full control on the System Volume Information folder.

NOTE: The System Volume Information folder is a hidden operating system folder. To display the folder in Windows Explorer, follow these steps:

    1. in the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

    2. on the view tab, clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.

Follow the steps in this article and give full control permission to the folder. Appropriating a file or a folder: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753659.aspx

    Method 2.

I would like to create a new user account and check if the problem still persists.

    Create a user account: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows7/Create-a-user-account

If the problem does not occur in the new user account, you can transfer the files from the damaged to the new user account by using the article user account "difficulty a user profile is corrupted.

Difficulty a user profile is corrupted: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

    Method 3.

You can run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is virus-free.

    Microsoft safety scanner: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Warning of Security Scanner: there could be a loss of data while performing an analysis using the Microsoft safety scanner to eliminate viruses as appropriate.

For more information: the file must be decrypted by the user who encrypted the file. The files are encrypted using the Encrypting File System (EFS) are accessible only to the person who encrypted the file, regardless of the other permissions on the file.
