PharLap, VxWorks vs: advantages/disadvantages?

Is there an advantage of the use of VxWorks systems Pharlap? What are the disadvantages?  There the modules/functionality that I can't use the old system?

I used VxWorks in the past (in newer systems), but may have the opportunity to use an older 9004 Pharlap system.

Thank you.

Hi quarterlbr,

Here is a link that should help to show the differences between the two operating systems.  In general, Pharlap (or ETS) is X 86 based, where as VxWorks is based on Unix, which results in differences during execution of code such as DLLs:

Opening was a pro the Pro amateur-oriented or serious app, usually shooting Raw, probably on a digital SLR.

If this isn't the case, then opening was probably overkill for your needs.

If you like the pictures then this is the way to go.

  • Advantages disadvantages & RAID and how to assign Qosmio G30 speed

    Hello.

I heard that the RAID configuration can increase or not the speed... If someone more expert can explain to me how it works?

1.) first of all what is RAID (explain in words that an ignorant in the calculation as I can uderstand)

(2.) what is the difference between raid 0 or raid 1 and how it affects the computer?

(3.) what are the advantages/disadvantages to choose between this two settings?

    Hello

I m not a guru RAID ;) but I used Qosmio G20 with and without a permit to RAID technology and I have not noticed the disadvantages of speed.

I see that you are a beginner and so I will try to explain the RAID feature very easily ;)
What is RAID? RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) allows to save data.

The RAID reflected the content of the first HARD drive to the second HARD drive. This means that all the files (depending on the RAID settings) that are stored on the HDD1 is also stored on HDD2. If the HDD1 will damage, you will be able to recover everything from the HDD2 unit.

The two s of HARD drive can be used with mirror RAID-1 or RAID-0 stripping
When you use RAID-1, data is stored twice (once on each of the hard disks) so if there are problems with one of the hard drives, the other HARD disk can be used to retrieve the data.
But you can use only two hard drives as a single HARD drive. (2 disks hard = 1 HDD)

When you use RAID 0 (stripping) met by the operating system size is two times more!
Using RAID-0 configuration, all data on both disks will be lost, even if only one of the two disks fails!

I think that the RAID is very useful because it safes the contents of HARD drive!
Of course, if you use the mirroring option, you can only use the a HDD available!
But you are on the site course ;)

  • Advantages/disadvantages of moving data to a virtual server Vcenter

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the passage of our database of Vcenter 2.5 on the physical server to our virtual server to SQL 2005?

    Thank you

the only con I can think of is that your VCDB breaks down, the fact vCenter.  However, as a virtual machine running your VCDB isn't a bad thing.  After all, you can take advantage of the DRS/HA.  One thing I would do is create a rule of DRS, if you run vCenter as a virtual machine, to keep the VCDB and vCenter VM together but also to set a priority of restarting at the top for two virtual machines.

.. .and of course make sure that you back up your VCDB and perform adequate maintenance

  • What are the advantages/disadvantages of the use of PS/CS5 in 64-bit on 32-bit please?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the use of PS/CS5 in 64-bit on 32-bit please?

From the point of view practice, in addition to the 64-bit version is a little faster to just about everything, the limits on the size of the document are lifted in the 64-bit version.  Basically, how can you make is limited only by the amount of RAM you have installed on your system.  You can do things like having the larger documents, a deeper story, etc. and did all the work quickly.

However, the many 3rd party plug-ins, especially older ones, provide only 32-bit versions, which will only be 32-bit Photoshop.

32 and 64 bit versions are installed by default.  It is important to note that most of the preferences are separated between the two, so you can have two slightly different configurations that could help the operations of specialty, you might need.  It gets pretty subtle, but for example I keep the 32-bit version configured with cache level 1 only, so that all previews images of low depth are always composed in great depth.  This helps me with certain aspects of the treatment of astroimage.  It is slower but more accurate.  However, I have several cache levels configured for my version of 64-bit, so it's faster for a general photography work.

Here are some comments I found:

Although the link is a powerful mechanism, it is not suitable for all situations. For example, for a user interface complex in which individual parts must be updated, based on the strict schedule, it would be preferable to use a method that assigns properties in the order. Link runs whenever a property is changed, this isn't the best solution when you want the changes to point out only some of the time.

  • RMAN backup with archivelog (advantages/disadvantages)

When you do a "backup database with archivelogs" where rman stores the info contained in the archive logs. If I do a backup as I have to still keep logs archiving on disk? This increase in time to make backups? I have a few databases of production that are close to 500 GB. Ask yourself what advantages/disadvantages do a backup in this way.

    Thank you all!

Stored information in the archive logs (what you were asking, but probably not what you mean) is stored in archive logs. Backups of these logs are stored in a backup set. Information on newspapers are stored in the control file.

If I do a backup as I have to still keep logs archiving on disk?

You supported their top, right? Archivelogs are not actively used by the database running, right? If you don't remove them after that only they are saved, let me know who you buy your storage drive, because I would like to buy stock in that company.

This increase in time to make backups?

No matter what you do "increases the time to do' vs do not do something. (More effective SELECT statement is not executed). The question is that it has a concrete and measurable performance degradation which is intolerable to my organization? The answer probably 'no '.

I have a few databases of production that are close to 500 GB. Ask yourself what advantages/disadvantages do a backup in this way.

Are the pros, you can recover your database.
Disadvantages are, you cannot recover your database.

And it seems that we must point out that the housekeeping of your archivelogs can and should be handled by rman, not outside of it. Watch "archivelog backup not saved n times" and "delete backup archivelog n times" and other variations of 'backup archivelog' and 'delete archivelog.

  • Oracle best practices Discussion advantages/disadvantages of the use of synonyms

Share your experience, given the advantages/disadvantages development database of Enterprise Applications using public and private synonyms.

My recommendation to the developers on my team is to avoid using Public synonyms in their code and instead fully qualify the object of database by the owner of the schema.

Benefits: When you delete a schema, you do not drop the public synonyms they created. So if you use synonymous, make it private and not public.

    Please, share your experience!

From my experience, synonymous public are the number 1 name collisions cause. So they stop completely the possibility of the consolidation of databases and Instance and potentially end up costing huge customer money in useless Oracle licenses.

A much better way to the level of development would be to use ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA when possible and minimizes the use of any synonyms. When synonyms are necessary, they should be synonymous private and should be handled by the application.

    IMO :-)

  • What are the advantages/disadvantages "save files to Cache media next to originals when possible?

I just noticed that I have more than 7,000 files and 46.7 GB in my media Cache files folder.  I know that I can simply delete all files in this folder and first will automatically rebuild the files when necessary.  But are there advantages or disadvantages to save the files next to the originals?  I guess that means that he will write these files where I store my media files...

I would say that your cache store your multimedia files would decrease your performance.  Afford separate volumes/readers that first can read/write to them at the same time, instead of through one or the other, one both in read/write.

In addition, the Agency is creating the cache of the original media files, and it is always advisable to read a disc, when writing to the other.

    TL; DR is for Performance. ! ! ! !

  • 570 or 580... Please explain the advantages/disadvantages

Looking to put together a list of budget for the next fiscal (not before July, but I need a break from editing so I do now) and I have a question about video cards. I've done a lot of research here, but have not found an answer clear re: 570 or 580. Obviously the 580 is about $150 more expensive, a price point, is not as nice. But if the price was not a problem, and all things are equal, what would be the advantage of the 580 on the 570? So-called Adobe certifies both, which is nice.

I am running a 285 more older, who is showing it's age I get images RED Epic, with several layers, so it's time to get back in the world. Quadros are simply not yet an option, price wise, which is what led me to the battle between these two.

My other features are the following, and the upgrade of processor and Mobo not really viable options right now:

    • I7-920 @ 2.67 (not OC'd)
    • P6T6 WS Revolution
    • 12 GB DDR1333 (upgrade in July to 24 GB DDR1600)
    • Power supply 650W (upgrade to 1000W PSU in July)
    • total of 6 company WD SATA disks (3 x single Disk, 1 x 3-disk RAID-5)
    • total of 2 optical drives (1 x DVD - RW, 1 x BD - RW)
    • RocketRaid 231 x external PCIe SATA controller, running a 4-RAID-5 G - Speed eS drives and two external single like eSATA only (do not know if it is advisable... to run single disks in slots available on my RAID controller, but it worked...) I'm sure I'll hear about it, if it is not advised! )

Completely separate issue: I know that this has absolutely nothing to do with how PrPro works, but I'm curious and I thought someone here might be able to answer the question. The 'Windows performance index' for my system is 5.9 on the 8 point scale, and the main hard drive is what he declined to 5.9... each item is 7.3 or more. What should I do for my main hard drive mentioned in the range of my other components? Is there a point to do so, or the WEI organizations is just a hype thing Microsoft has done for the consumer and has really no real impact on the system?

The IFE has absolutely no value.

The difference in performance between 570 and 580 is very low. RE-ENGINEERING-wise, the 570 is the best option.

  • Advantages, disadvantages of the use of 3rd party firewall vs WIndows firewall?

At the suggestion of PA Bear, I open this thread to learn about firewalls.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro SP3. I use ZoneAlarms free firewall. It seems however, ZA conflicted with my WiFi USB NetGear adapter and threw me the network after about an hour (in one place, totally crashing the machine to a blue screen). At the suggestion of the PA Pooh, I unloaded ZA and activated Windows Firewall - no more conflict.

But I'm missing a couple of other functions, I had with ZA: - visual indication on the taskbar of traffic flow - permit/deny internet access to specific programs - completely locking all internet activity

So is a decent firewall program that offers good firewall protection AND these conflicts of WITHOUT Extras?

    Or:

Why should I stay with Windows Firewall and not look elsewhere for additional features?

    Ed

Hey, Joel. Thanks for the reply.

I liked the alerts because there seems to be a lot of things happening in the background that I had never heard. I enjoyed being able to see what was going on and kill him. "what do you say every time I open a file that you want to connect to the internet?"

The other part is that I use my laptop and more in environments where I don't have an internet connection I do in coffee shops where I have WiFi. I didn't want the constant slowdown of who-knows-what-and-how-many programs to make repeated calls for a connection.

Router? Everything I do is turn on my computer and plug my USB adapter and connect. (There's a guy at Starbucks, almost every day that comes out of three laptops and one buncha other things - it's his corner office!) I don't know what I'd do with a router - it's just me and my laptop and Starbucks (or elsewhere).

    Ed

    Hi Ed:

If you use your laptop frequently on the public networks, a third-party firewall is maybe a good option. I detect not just since your original post. You should look at the link below for a list of the popular options. Comodo, however, would be my choice if I had to use a.

  • Advantages/disadvantages do not use administrator?

The world of Apple people constantly warn as the administrator. Is it the same in the Windows world?  I'm the only user, but they said running as Administrator allows others easy access.  And what I do when I need administrator privileges?  Y at - it a password?

When you have disabled your administrator account, you probably followed the instructions in the following article:

"How to disable the account Local Administrator in Windows"

And, if so, you must read the following article warning:

Important before you disable the local administrator account, make sure that another user (on the domain or local user) is a member of the local Administrators group."

It is almost never a good idea to disable the administrator account.  Much preferred is to give him a password incredibly complex and record where only you can find it.  As it is, you are essentially locked in your own system.

The only thing that I know that you could get back to where you were without reinstalling Windows (which would be still necessary) is to create a free "Hiren" Startup disk (Follow the instructions at:)
    Hirens: <> http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ >
Your machine from this boot CD, select "Mini Windows XP" at the first prompt.  When Windows displays, go to the Hirens menu and select "tools of the Registry-Registry Restore Wizard of->".  (I'm doing this from memory so it's maybe a little). This should guide you through restoring your registry database at a point in time before you you locked.  With luck, you can reboot without the CD and retrieve your administrator account.

If not, back up your data and remove your installation discs.

  • Update auto advantages/disadvantages

    Hello

I use an EA3500 in comibination with a bridge of WES610N as part of my home network.

I got the game EA3500 for update manual (I don't think that there was a firmware update in over a year), but wonder if he would have no problem by changing the setting on "automatic"?

I found that I forget regularly check the updates - advice?

    Thank you!

Please follow what says BigDave. I recommend to keep the process of manual update in place and that you are not automatic updates.

Safely update FW, I recommend doing the following:
1 save the router config to the file first using IE or FF with all modules disabled security.
2 factory reset the router with all devices disconnected or turned off accept for 1 Wired PC.
3 reload or update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your wired local LAN PC.
4 factory reset the router and then set up from zero all first and test with loading saved configuration from the file. Check if problems are solved before loading the saved configuration file. Sometimes, you need to set up from scratch with the loading of the configuration file saved. Just safer that way.
