Photos of the external drive on my Mac hard drive

I transferred my Photos App with all my photos on an external drive to create a space.

I upgraded my mac pro internal end 2013 SSD and have plenty of space and want to reinstall my pictures from my external hard drive on my disk hard mac . How can I do?

The same way that you moved the library before, except with the disc source and destination reversed. The Photos application must always be on the startup disk.

Hello! I have a big problem!

I copied the folder "Images" that is default in my Mac on an external drive.

Inside the 'Images' folder, there is the iPhoto folder.

When I reopened iPhoto, all photos disappeared from the iPhoto library and the external drive. I left alone with very little, very old photos.

What software (name and version) are you using? What format is the EHD? How is it connected? What exactly did you do step by step

Bottom line is that correctly copy a package does not remove anything so you did something wrong and we need to know exactly what you have and what you have done to help

  • How can I move photos from a Photo library on my Mac to a library of photos in an external drive?

I have 10 GB of photos in a photo library on my Mac Air, which is running out of storage space. I would like to move the photos to another library of Photos in an external drive which already hosts most of my photo archives. How can I execute the move?

    Thank you!

    Marco.

Copy the library from the internal drive to the external drive. You can then open the library on the external hard drive by double clicking it and check, if the copy does not work.

Photos has no tools to merge libraries. You can use both libraries alternating, or export the photos of a library and import them into the other library.

Or use the application PowerPhotos to merge the two libraries move photos from one library to another.

You will need the full version and paid f PowerPhotos to do.

  • Move the folder of Photos on an external drive

Hello my MacBook Air is near capacity. I'm going through iTunes and Photos on an external drive to free up disk space on the internal drive. I searched the threads and found the right solution for iTunes. I moved the entire iTunes folder to the external drive. Then, in the Advanced tab of iTunes preferences, I made the file to the new location on the external hard drive. That worked very well.

Now, I'm ready to try the same process with my library of Photos (which also includes years of photos iPhoto migrated). Can I move the folder full of images (as I did with iTunes) or simply pictures library on external drive? My suspicion is the entire pictures folder, because it also contains the migrated iPhoto Pictures folders, Lightroom, Adobe and Photo Booth also. After searching for the discussions, it is not clear to me how to do it with pictures.

    Thank you

    Jon

You can move either; Once completed, launch Photos with the key Option key, click library and choose the one on the external hard drive. ITunes library should be moved in the same way rather than change the setting in the preferences.

  • I would use the external drive to download my photos, documents, etc. but do not know how to proceed.

I just got my old crash (desk top) computer. I knew it would, so I transferred all my information on an external hard drive. I bought a dell 2020 with windows 8, only bought a few days ago. I would use the external drive to download my photos, documents, etc. but do not know how to proceed.  My old computer won't start at all, that's why I got the external drive. Could someone please help me with this task. Thank you.

    Original title: confused

You can simply plug it in, connect the external hard drive, make sure it is turned on.

Then copy and paste on your files.

In Windows 8, start File Explorer

Highlight all the files and folders

Click on copy on the Ribbon (Home tab)

Then then paste into their respective folders

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: %UserProfile%

    Press enter

Used the external drive for catalog/photos for months. Yesterday-> error msg: "Lightroom can't open the catalog named"StanLRCatalogRepaired"located on the 'Seagate Drive - LR Photos' volume because Lightroom can't save the changes to this place. Lightroom catalogs not opening on the network volumes, removable storage, or read only volumes. »

The first thing to do is to check if somehow the permissions for the drive Seagate or any of its relevant folders/subfolders has changed somehow (an OS update maybe?)

  • Use LR5. Because of volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. When opening LR5 it references only the local hard disk. How can I change the refernce to read the external drive. Thank you

Use LR5, due to volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. LR refers only the Local Drive C not outside. Where do I change this by LR read the external drive. Grateful for the help.

    Thank you

LR is not a file Explorer. He knows only the disks that you imported photos of.

If you have previously imported these photos, then later moved into the external hard drive, go to the library files and "update location" Panel on the files that you moved.

If you have never imported these images on the external hard drive, perform an import by using the option 'Add' (not ' copy') to keep the images on the external hard drive during import.

When I 'import' a RAW/DNG file, the file gets automatically saved the item COPIED in my D drive under "My pictures" folder This info is available on the left panel. Instead, I want the file to go in my F drive which is my external hard drive.

  • How can I initialize with a previous osx of the external drive?

About 4 years ago I installed Snow Leopard on an external drive while I was running Snow Leopard on the main drive. I wanted to load a lot of video on this player to be able to use the version of Snow Leopard of iMovie when I updated the main drive. However, when I upgraded to the Mavericks (recently in Yosemite), he would list is no longer the disc of Snow Leopard when I pressed down option. And when I went to preferences/Startup and chose to start with Snow Leopard, it would not be completed the boot process.

If I use disk utility and create a partition to use for initializing with Snow Leopard, space-how much should I assign this partition? The external drive is 1 t and it is full of 50%.

Also, I have a 500 GB internal drive I removed a Mac deceased and put in an envelope. There are also Snow Leopard. After the partition is created, can I exchange the two external drives to be used on the same partition? What I want to do with the box HD's boot up with it, then install Mountain Lion.

I want to give to anyone who helps me the credit, but I have 3 questions under one heading. Is there a way to get triple credit?

I'm starting to get lost with all these drives, partitions and 4 versions OSX.

I wonder what happened to your old Snow Leopard.  You always use the same computer that you used with Snow Leopard? A Mac can start only in the operating system with which it is originally came or newer.  Your profile information from computer to the bottom of your post mentions a 2012 MacBook Pro which is not a Snow Leopard machine.

How much space depends on how you'll use it and how you configure.  I would like to make at least 30 GB so there is a little space, wiggle but if you start to install the applications then 60 + GB.

I know most recent disk utilities are supposed to be able to resize partitions without erasing but I'll make sure you have solid backups first.

You can assign a 'resolved' and two "helpfuls".

  • How can I CREATE an iTunes library on the external drive of Thunderbolt

I am creating an iTunes library for music & movies on an external hard drive LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 4 to. I copied all my movies on external hard drive, but cannot create a name of folder that iTunes will recognize that the library. I have a new mac mini OSx EL Capitan facility, there is NO file (movie or music) stored in the iTunes library on mac. I don't HAVE NO copy the old iTunes library since (OS crashed) & I want the external drive to the library. I tried several times to iTunes directly on the external drive, but it does not find the movies. (This is the file created: Volumes/LaCie/iTunes:iTunes Media), & this is the name of the folder on the LaCie external drive I am trying to get iTunes to serve library (iTunes/iTunes Media). I searched for hours to find info on this, but each article explains how to MOVE or COPY the old library (create a). I am over 50 years & not a computer guru, so please do not criticize my ignorance & please be more specific on the steps to go through as possible! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Launch iTunes with down option, click on create a library and drag the movie files in the Finder in the application window open iTunes or automatically add to iTunes folder.

  • Help... I have Adobe cc with Lightroom installed on my macbook and iMac and photos on an external drive... but

I edited several photos with lightroom and this external hard drive via my macbook pro. When I unplug my external drive and connect to my iMac and import a folder (no copy and move), none of my edits are here! or the sides. I can see all the photos of perfectly fine, but how do I get my cc in lightroom on my iMac to see my photos as they have been published on my instance mackook of cc in lightroom? They are certainly on the drive? I don't want to put this folder of images into space cloud that I have not the download speed or space provided. Any help appreciated.

The changes are saved in the catalog, not for pictures.

So to see the changes on both computers, you will need to keep the file containing the LR catalog and previews on the external hard drive.

Use the Finder to copy this folder since the Macbook pro hard disk external. It is usually located inside the images folder or similar.

Now make sure you always open the catalog from the external drive. To avoid confusion you can rename the catalog if you like, you then have to rename the folder seen accordingly. Make sure you do it with closed Lightroom. You can launch LR by double-clicking the file catalog.

  • Trying to transfer pictures from the internal drive to the external drive in lightroom.

Make sure that you drag and drop photos into the folder on the external drive holding them by the middle of the thumbnail (no border)

  • You want to move install Bootcamp or VM VMWare on the external drive and run it from there.

I have two versions of Windows 7 on my iMac 24 "4 GB. One is a Bootcamp of Win 7 Professional installation.  One is a computer virtual from Windows 7 in VMWare Mac OSX. The two windows installs work well (the Bootcamp we're NOT accessible through VMWare right now).

I want to do is get AN installation running on a partition on the external drive I connected. I have 3 partitions on a disk of T 1.  A 500 GB for Time Machine and 2 250 GB, Mac OSX and a Fat32.

What I wish really is a straight Win BOOTABLE install on Fat 32 partitions, but will sag to move the VMWare installation to the outside OSX partition.

Are there ways to do?  I thought Winclone, but as it is in oblivion I don't know about use.

    Any ideas?

With the Virtual Machine shutdown, not suspended and VMware Fusion closed copy the target Virtual Machine hard disk external package and double-click it to launch the first time and it will fill an entry on the Virtual Machine library.

The extent of the running Windows natively on a disk external Windows is not capable of it in itself although there may be some ways according to the type of external hard drive and various Boot Loader/managers that are out there.
