Photoshop CS6 is flattening randomly .psd files

I'm using CS5 for months, but just recently started a new job that uses CS6. I work on a laptop running Windows 7 Enterprise. I have never seen this problem before and could not find anything online about other people having this problem.

What is happening is that I save a file .psd in the same way I did for the last 8 years, but from time to time, once the .psd files are flattened next time as I open them. This has happened 4 times now.

The first time, I wrote it off as a user error. I have saved a backup .psd file and prosecuted. The second time was the same file, but I got the backup file I could revert to a previous version and start over from there.

Edit: I would also add that the third and fourth files are different from that used in the first two cases.

The third time, I was looking at him. I have saved a backup file, and then continued to work on the file. I save it, close the file and reopen it to see if it has been flattened. The 10th or 11th time I did this, the file was indeed flat. The fourth time, that what happened was on a whole new file I had started at the end of the day yesterday and this morning it is flattened.

As I said, I could not find any indication on google or on this forum for people having the same problem and I have absolutely no idea what would cause Photoshop to do this. I really want to have to keep a secondary .psd file that is updated when a backup for each project that I work, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a theory about why that might happen...

, As a part of your workflow, you save a PDF file?

There is a sequence of operations that can cause the setting to the box [] layers in the dialog Save to be extinct, which can indirectly result in a more late save causing the document recorded to be flattened.

Recheck your layers [] check box when you do a record under .

It's a setting that is almost never changed, so we tend to ignore.

    Hello world

I have a drawing created in Photoshop CS6 (without photo) and saved as a. • Everyone knows Apple Mail flattening. PSD file attachment when sending?

One of my students met the case when Apple Mail flattens. PSD file when you send an attachment.

Running the latest Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C540) Mail Version 4.2 (1077). Multi layers. PSD file 120K was saved to the desktop, then attached to the e-mail. None of the Adobe applications were running at that time here. After that he was sent, the attachment in the sent mail folder has been flattened and there size dropped to 88K.

The flattened file was sent to destination. Although we could not reproduce this problem on other computers, it always happens on this particular machine.

When the problem has been reported to Apple, the response of the engineers was more worrisome than the problem itself.

They said, 'it's OK to flatten the file to reduce the size of an attachment when sending. It is an expected e-mail behavior. " I am very troubled by this attitude of Apple. Flatten the image eliminates information contained in different layers. It's actually CHANGE the contents of an attachment when sending it.

Anyone encountered this problem? Also, I'd appreciate your comments on the position of Apple that it's OK to change attachments sent withou asking the user first.

    HI -.

I wonder if she may be in the application mail your students when they sent the file may have the "Image size" parameter other than actual size - I think if it is set to any other thing then Mail makes a JPG file and send - and I think that this setting is sticky - biten me in the past.

  • PS CS6 mail crashes with PSD files after update to 13.0.1

I ' just put v updated to version 13.0.1, and now I can not work in Photoshop. I start the program, but when I open a psd file, I see the image, and then it crashes. If I open a jpg file, I can work on that (how I don't know), when I save it with layers or not, the program crashes.

I uninstalled Photoshop CS6, re-installed and updated via the installation of Patch from Adobe. Always the same bug. Please help as soon as possible.

  • Photoshop CS6 will not open the file image (.jpg, .dng and .cr2)

    Hello

I recently reinstalled my laptop (64-bit) Windows 7 Pro. It has all the necessary Windows updates.

I installed Photoshop CS6 (64 and 32-bit) and I've installed all the updates it needs.

It will not open any JPG or RAW, .tif, .jpg, .dng and .cr2 files. Before you reinstall Windows Photoshop worked well.

When I try to open an image file that Photoshop does not open, so the file type is associated with Photoshop, but that's all. The software is running, but it won't open the jpg or tif, and it does not open Camera Raw to display the RAW file.

If I double-click on a new image, then a new instance of Photoshop is open, in addition to the already open instance, but still no picture.

If I click file-open and navigate to the file it will then open in Photoshop and Camera Raw 9.1.1 and the picture shows successfully.

    Strange!

The only thing I think currently, is that I have 2 partitions on the laptop, with C: and a D: readers, with the users folder, which is held on D. Photoshop is confused by there? Well it is exactly how the laptop has always been in place, and it was already defined in this way before Photoshop has been installed.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall. I tried to install just Photoshop 64 Bit, not 32 bit (I don't really know why I get the two offered, to be honest.)

I am now lost and would like to receive helpful suggestions!

    I "solved" this problem!

It seems that Photoshop won't open these files from a Windows 7 'Library' that points to a redirected folder.

However, if I create a mapped drive with a drive letter local, the actual path of the files, (for example \\Server\FolderRedirections\Michael\Pictures), then it works OK.

It is a good work-round and it makes no difference to me if I use a mapped drive or library I put just one correct, in the section 'Favorites' from Windows Explorer.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, that helped me a lot. I hope this answer helps someone else, even if my situation may not be a common scenario.

I'm on Photoshop CS6 13.1.2 on a MacPro 2010 mid running OS / X 10.8.3.  Whenever I start it also opens an image .psb file which has been recently editing in Photoshop.  I don't want to open at startup.

    I tried:

    1. close the tab

    2. file/close

3 command-Option-shift at startup to reset Photoshop.  The stil file load.

How to stop this file will load automatically at startup?

It looks like an orphaned AutoRecover file. Next time it opens, right-click on the document tab, and choose reveal in Finder. Close Photoshop, trash the file then restart Photoshop to find that the pest is gone.

  • Photoshop CS6 will not open graphics files

Photoshop cs6 open no graphic files, I have reset the settings. I have the chance to see all the files preview, but when I try to open a file, nothing happens, no error message, no file opens, nothing.

When I use Bridge I'm trying to open the file to open it in photoshop cs6, but once again, nothing happens. I found that if I reboot my PC photoshop works correctly until I turned off photoshop, but if I open it more later before restarting my pc now graphic files will be open.

Hello, Yes, it could very well be useful, I see that you use several third-party plug-ins, I had to check first in that direction.

It is possible to start without plug-ins by holding down the SHIFT key, to see if it's a plugin that is causing the problem, as explained http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshooting-plug-ins-photoshop-cs6.html

Then, if Photoshop works well, check the following:

I see Phototools 2.6 hidden no version, then the 2.6.5 (the good version, according to: http://www.ononesoftware.com/support/360/ ), I don't know if this is normal, could check you if they are not installed twice?

Topaz clean is to 3.0.2 and remask to 3.2.1 I would check their version (as it is listed here 10.0)

Another thing would be to check if the new graphics card drivers are not available on the nVidia site.

  • Unable to choose Photoshop CS6 as default application for files JPEG, Win7

Suddenly, I am unable to choose Photoshop CS6 as the 'Open with' default app in Win7 when I try to open JPEG files.

I updated Adobe Application Manager and he said Photoshop CS6 is installed and I am able to open Photoshop CS6 without receiving the error 'trial version' more - even if it was a problem until I upgraded to AAM.

I was able to change the default value of Viewer Windows for Photoshop photo on my Win 7 machine successfully. The steps that I followed:

    1. Open the control panel in the start menu.
    2. Mine is located on the top ' view by ' category. I clicked on (green link) programs.
    3. Under default programs, I clicked on the blue link to "make a type of file always open in a specific program.
    4. Wait for "Loading."... ». at the end make sure that the list is sorted by name and scroll down to ".jpg". Select it and click the button "Change program...". ».
    5. Do not see that Photoshop listed in recommended programs, to do this, click the small triangle right of other programs. Choose Photoshop and click on the OK button.
    6. Wait for the list to reload and confirm the association has changed.

Note that you probably need to change this for .jp2, .jpe and .jpeg too in addition to some .jpg.

You have does not copy the plugins from a previous version, or stressed CS6 plugins from older version.  You must remove these older plugins.

3rd party plugins should be downloaded from the website in the folder plugin CS6.

  • Photoshop cs6 shifts when creating new file

  • Weird Photoshop PSD files sizes...

I use CS6 in Mountain Lion (so do not know if this affects other versions / operating system platforms) and I noticed something weird, saving a file.

I have a document which is 2048 x 1536 with two layers in it, one is one bitmap, the other a vector shape with 7 points (a circle with a symbol of play in).

Save it creates a PSD of 18.3 MB.

Delete the shape layer and saving give me a 9.2 MB file.

Therefore, by my math, 9.1 for a form of vector with 7 points.

    How is that even possible?

Remove the layer of the bitmap and save with just the vector shape and the file is 249 k.

    What is going on?

    Rob.

If you have defined maximize compatibility setting in preferences, not only is the form saved as a metadata layer, but there is a flattened composite image created and saved with the PSD as well.  It could be that he is not able to compress this composite flattened particularly well.

If you have other applications or older versions of Photoshop that need to read PSD files in your working environment, you may experience a significant saving, if you assign maximize compatibility Ask or never and save without maximum compatibility.

Just to be clear, the older versions of Photoshop WILL read the files without maximum compatibility, if they contain no features available only in the second version (savings) of Photoshop.  When the process of "compatibility" is invoked, the old version (or external application) comes back to playback of the composite flattened, which isn't always useful anyway.

    Hi Eelswood,

Please try to change the file association for the .psd files.

Right click on the file > select 'Open with' > 'Choose default pogram' and select 'Photoshop' in the list of programs.

Make sure that "Always use the pogram selelcted to open this type of file" is checked at the bottom of the window.
