Photosmart 8450: "Device Setup doesn't have all the.

HP dear Forum and Support:

My HP Photosmart 8450 fails to install on my Dell laptop. Help, please.

I have a Dell Inspiron 640 m laptop computer with Windows XP. I got the printer installed fine, but then I caught a bad virus had to restore my laptop back to the factory settings and then installed Norton Antivirus.

First, I downloaded the Driver on the HP site and connected the driver software Installation the file downloaded.

Then, during Installation, the Installation Wizard told me to connect my printer to the USB Port of my computer, I did.

Then, after a few minutes, the installation wizard told me that "Device Setup has not finished.'

Then I tried whole, this time connect my device to a different USB Port in my laptop with the same failed result. In addition, no a HP printer icon appears in the list of printers in my control panel.

A cause as possible, I can imagine would be if I have Norton Antivirus and Antivirus is blocked somehow, but I highly doubt this possibility, because then it would be a common problem with many users, like HP and Norton products are very common.

P.S. happy holidays.

OK, I gave you a thumbs up.

Here's what worked for me:

I uninstalled the printer from the "Programs" section in my control panel. Then I reinstalled the printer driver. When I did, I have connected my USB pritner when the installation wizard asked. As was happening, he said that the printer has been detected and this may take a few minutes.

Meanwhile, a message apparently not HP-software popped up because of my operating system, that says hardware is automatically detected by my computer laptop and installed automatically and give me the choice to make my default printer. Of course, rather than interfere with the HP Installation Wizard, I've just left him intact.

A few minutes later, I got the same old "Not completed" message in my installation wizard. Then I clicked on the operating system pop-up message and told to do my Pritner by default.

I think that the installation wizard might at this time asked to click Next in the installation wizard, and if that were the case, then I didn't click it. But in any case the next thing the wizard said was that the device had been installed successfully.

So it's a combination of things that led to the unit being installed successfully.
