PIX 515E and Telnet to port 25

When I telnet (in or out) on a mail server (using port 25) the answer is:

220-*******************

and all orders come back as "invalid command."

When I put the old (no - pix) firewall, this does not happen (the responses are complete and commands work fine.)

A lot of email is coming and going, but some mail servers cannot send email.

This is common for misconfiguration and where should I look?

Thank you

Mark

Delete the fixup protocol smtp 25!

command to run:

No fixup not protocol smtp

Details about this:

The order fixup protocol smtp active the function of guard of mail, which allows only mail servers receive the RFC 821, section 4.5.1 of the orders of HELO, MAIL, RCPT, DATA, RSET, NOOP, and QUIT. All other commands are translated into x which are refused by the internal server. The result is a message such as "500 unknown command: 'XXX'.ยป Incomplete orders are ignored.

Note during a SMTP session interactive, different SMTP security rules may reject or hang with your Telnet session. These rules include the following: SMTP commands must be at least four characters; must end with the return cart and jump; of line and must wait for a response before issuing the next reply.

From PIX Firewall software Version 5.1 and higher, the fixup protocol smtp command changes the characters of the SMTP banner asterisks except for the "2", "0", "0" characters. Return (CR) and linefeed (LF) characters are ignored.

PIX Firewall software Version 4.4, all the characters in the SMTP banner are converted to asterisks.

  • IPSEC VPN between Pix 515E and 1841 router

    Hi all

    BACKGROUND

We have implemented a site to site VPN IPSEC between a Pix 515E 8.0 operation (4) and an 1841 using static IP addresses at both ends. We used CCP on the router and the ASDM the pix to build initial tunnels. Now the site with the router is evolving into a dynamic IP address from the ISP so we have implemented dynamic DNS to update dynamic IP address.

    PROBLEM

The problem is that ASDM will not allow us to set a domain as the address of peers, it will not accept an IP address. We believe that the solution will be to remove the static Crypto map and replace it with a dynamic Crypto map on the side of Pix. Our questions are simply; is this the best solution? can change us the original static list or is it better to delete and make a new dynamic encryption card? Y at - it a shortcut to change the config command-line? This is a real network, so just check it out before make us any changes on the live kit.

    Any help much appreciated.

You don't have to change anything when the peer-address changes. The dynamic crypto map aims to take dynamic peer connections. The only thing to remember, is that only the dynamic peer can initiate the connection. And you reduce your security if you use Pre-Shared key that now you can use a generic-PSK character.

As I remember, the PIX / ASA does not support the dynamic use of FQDNs for peer-resolution. This feature is supported in IOS.

For a feature, it would be preferable to static IP addresses on both sides.

Try to add the "isakmp nat-traversal" command to your PIX. I suspect what happens is that Remote LAN users is translated to a single IP address as they pass through the DSL connection. I also assume that the machine doing the translation has a capacity of IPSec passthrough. Linksys routers would be a good example of this type of NAT device that allows IPSec pull-out.

If that's the case, that a single VPN connection will be able to operate both. The above command will turn PIX detect clients that are located behind a NAT device, and then try to configure the VPN sessions in UDP packets and so to work around the limitation of NAT and IPSec passthrough device.

you have in your possession a PIX failover. That's why says in the "sh run".

This device is intended to be used only as a failover for a live device. It will work as a live PIX, but behave badly. It is cheaper than a PIX with an unrestricted license, as it is not intended to be used as a standalone device. Check with the one that you bought to get the situation sorted.

  • UAL IP on a PIX 515E with 6.2 (2)

Sorry, I have not found this in a search. I need to understand how to connect what specific host IPs access only. I have a 6.2 (2) running of PIX 515E and no other devices to use for this - no router, etc., nor lead us auth servers. I have used the parameter "log" on router ACL several times but do not see that in this version of PIX. Thanks in advance.

The feature of logging for PIX ACL not brought up to version 6.3. The following link has some info on it:

  • Configuration of RADIUS and accounting AAA + PIX-515E

    Dear All;

I want to put the accounting of PIX.

Here is the composition of the equipment.

    PIX 515E: 7.0 (6)

PIX of setting is as follows.

Console telnet accounting AAA GANYMEDE +.

Thus, the configuration setting was written in ACS.

But the user name is enable_15. (attached 1.jpg)

    Is it a restriction?

    Kind regards

    Reiji

    Hi Marilou,

Looks like we have the authority to command configured on the pix. You must enable authentication configured on the RADIUS server then only we would get username is accounting, unlike pix Device IOS doesn't send user name to the RADIUS server, he would send enable_15 as username for all users.

Configure the following command to make it work.

AAA authentication enable console LOCAL + Ganymede

  • Allowing ICMP and Telnet via a PIX 525

Recognizing any help on proper routing through a PIX 525, given that all this is for a network internal.

on the 6509, why the int has a 24 subnet mask, when everything has a 28? If you try the 6500 ping.18, he thinks that it is on a local network, and there no need to route through the pix

    Your access lists are confusing.

access-list # ip allowed any one should let through, and so everything that follows are redundant statements.

    for the test,.

alloweverything ip access list allow a whole

    Access-group alloweverything in interface outside

should the pix act as a router - you are effectively disabling all firewall features.

  • Upgrade PIX 515 1 map net port to 4 ports, is coward Ethernet2 config?

    Hello

Are there tricks to watch when upgrading a Ethernet card single port in a Pix 515E to port 4 (4FE-66). We are @ version 6.1 (2). We have a VPN accelerator card in one of the slots. The single NETWORK card in the other. When I out and replace it with the new 4FE all interfaces on this card will be judgment by default? What I've read, it seems I have to reactivate the interface Ethernet2.

What of all the other parameters configuration Ethernet2? They will remain intact in the config?

    for example:

    nameif Ethernet2

    IP address

    IP Failover

    Global

    NAT

    group-access

    public static

Also when I set up the above to my (my 2nd DMZ) Ethernet3 I can enter the configuration in the order above?

    Thank you

    Dave

    Hi Dave,.

The configuration for Ethernet2 must simply transfer to the new card. The PIX will start with the commands to configure Ethernet2 map of four ports, including allowing it. It is then just a matter of configure ports again if required.

On the 4fe ports are numbered from left to right. Far left is Ethernet2.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/products/HW/vpndevc/ps2030/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008017279b.html#wp1051643

Don't know what you are asking in your last question but would say yes to enter the commands in this order.

    See you soon,.

    Paul.

  • Cannot ping PIX 515e Interfaces

I know it's a very silly question for this forum, but I have already tried many things and cannot get the answer from the PIX firewall interfaces.

    It's my (very easy) installation:

Using a FastEthernet port on router, I have a cable connected directly to the outside I / F of the PIX-515e. (Crossover cable works, I have already tested). Router <-->PIX directly connected.

I configured the PIX firewall to allow pings (I used different commands):

ICMP allow any response of echo outdoors

    ICMP allow all outside

ICMP permitted - echo outside response

I tried to configure each of them and also combined.

Also tried to send the PIX to its default values. Supposed to be after that the PIX should allow all pings if no "icmp" command is configured.

I have configured the ports on both sides to 100 Full

On both sides of the link (PIX and router) I have the links to the top. The lights are on.

The 'show interest' on the PIX firewall shows to the top/top

The same thing on the router...

The two interfaces are configured in

    10.1.1.0/24 (10.1.1.1 & 10.1.1.2)

    What I am doing wrong?

    This should be very easy...

    Hello

Majority of the time interfaces refuses explicitly to ICMP packets unless you indicate otherwise. Here is a link to a pretty good setup guide... Have a look at the link to the ping Security Appliance Interfaces section in this guide. I'm really frustrated myself during the installation/testing phase because the pings are not working and it helped. Hope this helps a little and makes your life easier =) (rate if it please and thank you)

  • Question of BandNew PIX 515E

I got some new PIX 515E security infra-red and I had sex 2 questions about everything I tried. I installed a 5 port switch inside and cannot ping anything from the console. I have a computer on the switch, and he is able to ping other devices on the switch, but not the PIX.

What I find strange is that when I try to ping from the inside interface on the PIX of one inside computers, PIX displays the MAC address of the computer inside in the arp table.

My goal is to upgrade the PIX to ver7.0 but I can't do so until I can solve this problem.

    Hi M8,

Your firewall has a license of FO, you must enable this device to be able to see it.

    Run the command:

    active failover

With this command, the device turns into the 'Active' from a perspective of failover state. It will work after that.

    See you soon.

with pix v6.x, nat/global or static is a must do before the pix will start to transfer packets between two interfaces.

the current static instructions do not cover the translation between the inside and the dmz. as the traffic between pix inside the net and dmz is private, I suggest you to set up no. - nat between the two.

    for example

    static (inside, dmz1) 10.10.10.0 10.10.10.0 netmask 255.255.255.0

    clear xlate

in the above example, pix inside the host must be able to access the dmz Server pointing to the private ip address of dmz Web server.

If you prefer the pix inside the host to access the dmz by name server, then "alias" command should be applied.

    for example

    alias (inside) 13.13.13.3 12.12.12.17 255.255.255.255

the need for the command "alias" is due to the fact that when pix inside the host tries to access the server dmz by name, the public dns will point to the public IP address of the dmz Web server. now, as the static electricity created for the dmz Web server is directional i.e. public ip will be accessible from the outside, not the pix inside the net. so the 'alias' command will allow the PIX to manipulate the dns response and point the name to the private ip of Web server dmz for the pix inside the host.

  • PIX 515e, multiple VIRTUAL networks on a physical interface to DMZ

We try to set up multiple VIRTUAL networks on a physical interface to the DMZ on a PIX 515e.

The goal is to have logical subnets linked to our single, physical interface DMZ.

Here's what I've tried so far without success:

    The switch

    -created the vlan 30

-added switchports fa0/1 to 30 of vlan

    -attached host 192.168.100.1 in fa0/1

-added switchport fa0/24 to the vlan 1 and vlan 30 with multimode

-interface PIX DMZ connected to fa0/24 switchport

-attached host to switchport fa0/10 172.16.1.55 (vlan 1)

    PIX:

    Auto interface ethernet2

    logical ethernet2 vlan30 interface

    nameif DMZ security50 ethernet2

    nameif vlan30 dmz2 security50

    address IP DMZ 172.16.1.254 255.255.255.0

    IP address dmz2 192.168.100.254 255.255.255.0

    Results:

-172.16.1.55 has full connectivity to the PIX and beyond.

-192.168.100.1 cannot ping the PIX to the 192.168.100.254 or anything else besides.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I realize that I could buy a four port NIC and use the physical interfaces, but I can't get the approved purchase.

    Thank you

    Creation of VLANS on Ethernet1

We want to create a new interface VLAN - VLAN30 and name DMZ2. Also affect the security level 50 in it.

Step 1: Create a physical Interface:

    PIX (config) # interface ethernet1 vlan2 physical

Step 2: Name the Interface and set the security level:

PIX (config) # nameif ethernet1 inside the security100

Step 3: Assign the IP address of the interface:

PIX (config) # ip inside 192.168.1.1 address 255.255.255.0

Step 4: Create the logical Interface:

    PIX (config) # interface ethernet1 vlan30 logical

Step 5: Name of the Interface and set the security level:

    PIX (config) # nameif vlan30 DMZ2 security50

Step 6: Assign IP address to the interface:

    IP pix (config) # DMZ2 192.168.100.254 255.255.255.0

Step 7. Switch, set the port where from the inside, to the Isls or dot1q physical interface. Place the sheath in the native vlan2 as in step 1.

  • 4240 IPS blocking queries with Pix 515E

I have activated the lock on the 4240 and put locking as our Pix 515E. When I look at the Configurations of Signature quite a few Signature Actions are set to alert only produce. If blocking is enabled you also go and the Actions of signing the Deny value or TCP Reset? So far my attackers show dosen't IPS refused and he detected the high level of traffic which I assume must now be blocked. Thanks John

Yes, go under the signatures that you want and enable blocking for them as an action. Globally blocking configuration (setting the blocking device, the interface, the connection of the device information, etc.), does not actually blocked on the sensor itself, we must still go and activate the blocking of this particular signature. When this particular GIS fires in the future, the sensor it will block on the device that you configured.

Be very careful with blocking, the reason that we're not blocking simply all the signatures, it is that it would be very dangerous to blindly add access lists to a device that will stop traffic. You must first make sure that you don't get any number of false positives on the signatures and end up blocking valid traffic. In addition, on a busy sensor you could easily overrun detector and locking to writing and deleting 1000's of top access lists. And finally, although probably not, blocking can even be used as an attack denial of service, where an attacker, if they know what signatures you block, can usurp packages past your sensor so that it denies traffic to our legitimate guests.

You have to look at what signatures you really want to block, and then enable blocking on them individually.

  • Cisco VPN Client Authentication - PIX 515E-UR

    Hi all

I need your expert help on the following issues I have:

    1. I would like to create more than 1 client VPN on my PIX-515E groups. This is so that I can give a different part of the internal network access to different type of VPN connection. For example, I want a group to have no XAUTH, while the other group must use RADIUS XAUTH. Is it possible for me to do this? I see the PIX automatically enable RADIUS on both groups of VPN clients.

    2. the RADIUS server is a Microsoft ISA with IAS server and it is located on the PIX inside interface. The VPN endpoint is external interface of the PIX. Is there a problem with this Setup? Do I need to have the RADIUS server that is located on the external interface?

3 can. what command I use to debug RADIUS authentication?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi vincent,.

    (1) you can use the vpngroup *-authentication server ipaddress to specify the IP address of the Radius Server on a particular group... If you do not specify this, the authentication of the user is made locally... also check for vpngroup * order of user authentication

    (2) there should be no problem with the installation of your... should work fine... If the RADIUS is outdoors, it is subject to many attacks... so have it inside...

    (3) use the "RADIUS session debug" or "debug aaa authentication..."

I hope this helps... all the best... the rate of responses if found useful
