Cisco VPN Client Authentication - PIX 515E-UR

Hi all

I need your expert help on the following issues I have:

1. I would like to create more than 1 client VPN on my PIX-515E groups. This is so that I can give a different part of the internal network access to different type of VPN connection. For example, I want a group to have no XAUTH, while the other group must use RADIUS XAUTH. Is it possible for me to do this? I see the PIX automatically enable RADIUS on both groups of VPN clients.

2. the RADIUS server is a Microsoft ISA with IAS server and it is located on the PIX inside interface. The VPN endpoint is external interface of the PIX. Is there a problem with this Setup? Do I need to have the RADIUS server that is located on the external interface?

3 can. what command I use to debug RADIUS authentication?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi vincent,.

(1) you can use the vpngroup *-authentication server ipaddress to specify the IP address of the Radius Server on a particular group... If you do not specify this, the authentication of the user is made locally... also check for vpngroup * order of user authentication

(2) there should be no problem with the installation of your... should work fine... If the RADIUS is outdoors, it is subject to many attacks... so have it inside...

(3) use the "RADIUS session debug" or "debug aaa authentication..."

I hope this helps... all the best... the rate of responses if found useful

  • Cisco VPN Client behind PIX 515E,-> VPN concentrator

I'm trying to configure a client as follows:

The user is running Cisco VPN Client 4.0. They are behind a 6.1 PIX 515E (4), and I need to connect to a VPN concentrator located outside of our network. We use PAT for address translation. As far as I know, to allow ipsec through Firewall 1 tunnel, I need to upgrade the pix to 6.3 and activate "fixup protocol esp-ike.

Is there another way to do this? I am also curious to know how much more easy/better this will work if we were dealing with pptp.

You don't necessarily need to fixup protocol esp-ike active. The remote Hub there encapsulation NAT - T enabled so that clients behind the NAT can run?

  • Problem Cisco VPN Client with local authentication

I configured PIX for the Cisco VPN client for remote access. It must be connected and also inside network is accessible. It is without any authentication username. It works well with a vpngroup name and the password for the vpngroup, configured on PIX and also on the Cisco VPN client. (version 4.6)

When I configure crypto for local authentication, it did not work. configuration is as follows.

#crypto card: name of the map of local authentication client

    I created a user with private = 15.

Client VPN must be connected, and then it pops up a window user name and password. After giving these details. The user is not authenticated.

  • PIX: Cisco VPN Client connects but no routing

    Hello

We have a Cisco PIX 515 with software 7.1 (2). He accepts Cisco VPN Client connections with no problems, but no routing does to internal networks directly connected to the PIX. For example, my PC is affected by the IP 172.16.2.57 and then ping does not respond to internal Windows server 172.16.0.12 or trying to RDP. The most irritating thing is that these attempts are recorded in the system log, but always ended with "SYN timeout", as follows:

We tried to activate and deactivate "nat-control", "permit same-security-traffic inter-interface" and "permit same-security-traffic intra-interface", but the results are the same: the VPN connection is successfully established, but remote clients cannot reach the internal servers.

I join all the details of the cryptographic algorithms because the VPN is successfully completed, as I said at the beginning. In addition, routing tables are irrelevant in my opinion, because the inaccessible hosts are directly connected to the internal LAN of the PIX 515.

  • Cisco VPN client, PIX, and proxy

Hi.I have problem in my company. We have users that go through a proxy server located in the DMZ of a PIX to the internet (allowed through the ACL of the DMZ on the outside, etc.). Which works very well.

The problem arises when they use a Cisco VPN client to connect to another company, and they can no longer access the Internet, but may work via VPN to a remote site (client has been authorized by the Cisco PIX). Everything returns to normal when they no longer use the VPN client.

Any ideas why this would happen?

Without the proxy, browsing the internet via the vpn connection, or split tunnel is configured and you are leaving locally. If split tunnel is configured, the ip address of proxy server can overlap with the remote protected network.

Fortunately, it is easy for you to know how the vpn is configured, just check the route details of vpn client statistics tab.

Verify that the routing table local pc will also help you to solve this problem.

  • Remote access VPN Client to PIX, DNS issue

Hi all.  I searched on this, but I can't find my answer.

I set up a VPN connection to a PIX Firewall (running the version 8.0 (4)) for my business.  The VPN connection works correctly, in that I can connect to it using my software (v 5.0.02.0090) Cisco VPN Client and ping servers/resources internal IP address. However, if I try to ping by host name, it does not resolve to an IP address.  If I open a command prompt on my PC and type ipconfig/all, there are no DNS servers for my VPN, just for my normal Intel NIC adapter - I think I should have a DNS server listed under the map of VPN, right?  Here is the relevant (I think) for the VPN config lines:

    8.0 (4) version PIX

    address vpnpoolIT pool

    Group-RADIUS authentication server

    tunnel-group ITGroup ipsec-attributes

    pre-shared-key *.

Am I missing?  I can solve the DNS on the PIX itself requests.

All the info I can find online is for an older version of the PIX software which says that I should enter the vpngroup dns- IP address of the server command, but this command is not available in my version of the software.

    Hello

To set a DNS server to be injected into the VPN clients when they connect, you can do the following:

This is the tunnel-group where lands the remote connection:

    tunnel-group ITGroup type remote access

    tunnel-group ITGroup General attributes

    address vpnpoolIT pool

    Group-RADIUS authentication server

    tunnel-group ITGroup ipsec-attributes

    pre-shared-key *.

For example, create a group policy:

    internal VPN group policy
    attributes of VPN group policy

DNS value--> x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the DNS server

Then, apply the group policy for the Group of tunnel:

    tunnel-group ITGroup General attributes

    Group Policy - by default-VPN

    It will be useful.

  • Problems to connect via the Cisco VPN client IPSec of for RV180W small business router

    Hello

I tried to configure my router Cisco of RV180W as a customer VPN IPSec, but have encountered a problem that I hope someone can help me with. Correct, the RV180 is not compatible with the Cisco VPN Client.  The Iphone uses the Cisco VPN Client.

You can use the PPTP on the RV180 server to connect a PPTP Client.

In addition, it RV180 will allow an IPsec connection to third-party customers 3.  Greenbow and Shrew Soft are 2 commonly used clients.

I'm getting old so I hope that it is not in another complaint curmudgeonly on the loss of functionality. :)

Many small businesses do not want to invest in the PKI. It is usually a pain to deploy, backup, make redundant, etc..

But it would be nice to have a bit more security on VPN other than just the connections of username and password.

If this is not possible, it is possible to configure the Anyconnect customer to IKEv1 with PSK and name at the level of the Group client?

If this is not possible, WTH did cisco end customer VPN cisco as a choice of VPN connection (other than to get more fresh mail of license)?

I really hope that something like this exists still!

    THX,

    WR

    You are welcome

In addition to two factors, you can also do double authentication (ie the two using the user name and password). Each set of credentials can come from a Bank of different identities.

With this scheme, you can can configure a local user name (common) with password on the SAA (think of it as your analog PSK) and the other be the AD user identification information.

Hi, I was in the process of configuring cisco anyconnect vpn for ip phones to our local obtained the license for them either, the question that I get is that I already have remote configured cisco connect via the old cisco vpn client.

now, if I activate the anyconnect ssl on the same outside the interface both can exist without conflict or maybe I need to migrate users to install the end customer for anyconnect system software to connect.

I also need help with authentication of certification.

You can run both VPN at the same time without problems.

However, you should try and migrate everyone to the latest technology Anyconnect SSL anyway.

  • MS RADIUS and Cisco VPN client

We currently have with a Server Windows RAS and IAS authentication with PPTP to users.

I want to move a hub (we have two not used) and the use of the Cisco VPN client with IPSEC 3005, also using the RADIUS (IAS) in Windows to authenticate against Active Directory.

I have a config to work for the client and it performs authentication, but I'm afraid that you can't configure IAS to work with IPSEC, unless you configure the policy for

    "Unencrypted authentication (PAP, SPAP).

    on the Authentication tab

    and

    "No encryption".

    on the encryption tab.

Are encrypted with IPSEC credentials to establish the tunnel of the Cisco VPN client?

For RADIUS PAP authentication, the user name is clear and the password is encrypted with the RADIUS shared secret.

To maximize security, you would use GANYMEDE + or IPSec transport mode and isolated VLAN. But for most of us, strong passwords and physical security prevents the RADIUS PAP to a significant weakness.

  • Cisco vpn client is supported on the analogue ppp connection

    concerning

    Assane

    Assane,

If I understand your question, you speak with PPP initially to get an IP address from your service provider, then use the Client VPN VPN in your Pix Firewall. If so, yes it is possible.

To name a few reasons why PPTP or L2TP/IPSEC is used instead of Cisco VPN Client are:

    1. because companies have used a PPTP or L2TP/IPSEC solution for some time and are migrating to Cisco VPN

    2. do not install vpn on the PC client software

    3. won't pay for the VPN Client software licenses

Let me know if it helps.

  • Help, please! Microsoft Vs Cisco VPN Client VPN

Could someone please indicate if the Cisco VPN Client is safer than the VPN integrated Microsoft on windows XP? If the Cisco client is more secure than why? Microsoft it does not use IPSEC and PPTP right?

    Please advise - very urgent!

I don't know a customer Cisco Cisco VPN concentrator is safer, but I'm not sure exactly why.

    Carlton,

Take a deeper look at the same time, all your questions will be answered once you look at these links.

IPSec is a Cisco VPN standard, open customer or any customer VPN IPSec based should meet these standards. You'll learn more by reading these few bellow of links at the end of the reading you will be to have a better

perspective on the customer you would gear more to use as a professional network.

Personally, I've been away little by little PPTP and substituting Cisco VPN clients. Don't get me wrong, PPTP is still widely used there, but it is more vulnerable.

With Ipsec VPN, you have a wider choice of authentication algorithms, to base

granularity of ciphers as a way to implement a secure VPN extreamely for RA architecture

  • Cisco VPN Client and Windows XP VPN Client IPSec to ASA

I configured ASA for IPSec VPN via Cisco VPN Client and XP VPN client communications. I can connect successfully with Cisco VPN Client, but I get an error when connecting with the XP client. Debugging said "misconfigured groups and transport/tunneling mode" I know, they use different methods of transport and tunneling, and I think that I have configured both. Take a look at the config.

    Hello

For the Cisco VPN client, you would need a tunnel-group name configured on the ASA with a pre-shared key.

    Please see configuration below:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a00805734ae.shtml

    or

    http://tinyurl.com/5t67hd

Please see the section of tunnel-group config of the SAA.

There is a tunnel-group called "rtptacvpn" and a pre-shared key associated with it. This group name is used by the VPN Client Group name.

So, you would need a specific tunnel-group name configured with a pre-shared key and use it on the Cisco VPN Client.

Secondly, because you are behind a router ADSL, I'm sure that's configured for NAT. can you please activate NAT - T on your ASA.

    "crypto isakmp nat-traversal.

Thirdly, change the transformation of the value

    raccess 1 set transform-set vpnclienttrans crypto dyn1 dynamic-map

    Let me know the result.

    Thank you

    Gilbert

  • RV120 VPN with full Cisco VPN Client?

Is it possible to configure the RV120 for a VPN IPsec for use with the complete Cisco VPN client?

I tried, but it does not appear to support "Goup of authentication.

I see in the confi router I can put a PSK, but the complete VPN client seems only accecpt "Goup authentication."

I managed on the basis for the work "Fast VPN", how it works is beyond me, because he does not appear to create an adapter with an IP address or anything on the local line, and I didn't even create a VPN policy...

Or put another way, what alternative (Free) VPN clients are there to work with the RV120?

Try the following link for instructions for Cisco VPN and the SA500:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/security/multi_function_security/multi_function_security_appliance/sa_500/TechNote/note/SA500_vpnclient_appnote.PDF

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you
