Place a Word document by choosing which attributes to keep

I have several book layouts to build everything with manuscipts provided in MS Word. In the past, I have deleted all the attributes of character of the Word doc (italic, line spacing, breaks, etc.) and then placed the doc in ID and rebuilt all of the attributes removed from scratch in ID. How can we choose which attributes to avoid that the Word document? For example, if it is desirable to keep all withdrawals, italics and font sizes, but not attack/spacing (which ignores lines 1,5 or 2 - too), how this is handled?

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when you place the Word document

    Hello

I'm having a real problem by placing a Word document in InDesign CS4. It crashes everytime! I found that if I turn off the 'import inline graphics' it correctly places the document. but enabling this option blocks InDesign.

I tried to save in rich TEXT format and even do a simple copy - paste, but the result is the same: InDesign crashes.

If you have an idea please let me know!

    Thank you

  • InDesign CS4 do not place a word document

    Hello

I just had to InDesign CS4 installed on my computer at work. The installation went perfectly, and I was able to open InDesign files with no problems at all. But when I tried to put a word document in one of these formats:

    1. 2010 (.doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt)
    2. same formats of 2007

He gave me the following error message:

either the file does not exist, you may not, or the file may be in use by another application

I went into the system to see if all this relates to this specific word file is open - nothing. I made sure there is no open files office.

If this problem is already solved, please excuse the duplication and if possible I would like to have a link to the thread.

    Thanks for your help.

In general this error appears when the file is opened. Perhaps the temporary Word file has not deleted properly when closing.

  • Simple question - alternative text of the attribute in the same Word document

Ok. I am having a brain freeze and cannot find the answer in the help of the OPA. Simple question.

Is there a simple way to alias an attribute for use in Word?

For example, the following two conclusions create 2 attributes where I want only 1 attribute.

    annual percentage rate = 6
    APR = annual percentage rate

Is there a configuration option or something to alias APR as the rate of annual percentage for use in Word? I want to use in the same Word document. Something in my head tells me that I have seen that once before, but all of a sudden, I've got a brain freeze.

Sorry for such a simple question, but sometimes I get too deep into the weeds.

    Hi Paul,.

You may think the style of the legend of OPA. In the 2007 OPM Office Ribbon it's called legend of the table, but I think that it works with the rules of non-table in Word as well - it is certainly used to.

It's a style of OPA rule which can be used when you want to refer to an abridged version of an attribute, for example "APR" rather than "the annual percentage rate. According to me, that it applies only to the immediately lower rule where it has been defined in the doc and the doc not complete.

I did a quick search in the help of the OPM and found references to the style of legend, but I have not found a description of the functionality (search is not too good if).

    Essentially how it works...

Above the rule to write the version abridged, then the word "is", then the text of the full attribute, for example

APR is the annual percentage rate

Side note: I have always "BOLD" the "is" in the callout line. It is not necessary, but I want to do it because it makes it more clear at a glance what part is the shorthand and which part is the text of the full attribute.

Then apply the style of the legend of the table to the line, then put your Word table or the ordinary rule underneath, for example

[legend]APR is the annual percentage rate

    the result = APR * 10

I use this feature occasionally. Usually it is when I have calculations in Word tables and I'm trying to make the more readable left column, for example using something "APR" in the formula so that it does not take much space.

  • Conversion and print a PDF file which is exactly the same as the Word document.

When I convert a Word 2007 document as a PDF and then print both, the PDF has a much larger margin and declined on each page of the document. How to make PDF file printed with the same margins and the size of the font as the Word document?

I used (free) cutepdf and Nitro PDF Pro in both Office 2007 and Office 2010 and you haven't noticed the problem you mention, but I didn't have the need to compare the results of Word with the pdf regarding my purposes the output pdf has been fine.

  • I have a Word document of 6 x 9 I can't convert a PDF of 6 x 9 (even with parameters in place!)

I am preparing a document Word for CreateSpace.  In the Word document, the page size is set to Custom, 6 "x 9".

When I go to print in PDF format, I select "Custom" and set the settings to 6 "x 9".

Then the PDF is still 8.5 "x 11", with only half the page (half right) with a text on this issue. "

    Hi Peter,.

Here's how to get the customized pages in my PDF documents:

    1. In the print dialog box, select the Adobe PDF printer.
    2. Click on the "printer properties" link next to the name of the printer.
    3. In the Adobe PDF Document Properties dialog box, click the tab 'Adobe PDF settings'.
    4. The fourth parameter in the list is "Adobe PDF Page Size".
    5. Click on the button "Add..." "on the right.
    6. In the add custom paper size dialog box, type a name of paper (for example 'my 6 x 9' or 'custom 6 x 9 ").
    7. Enter the size in the width and height fields.
    8. Click Add/change.
    9. Now, in the "Adobe PDF Page Size", select your custom page in the list size. The list is in alphabetical order.
    10. Click on the button 'print '.

Your PDF file must be in the custom size.

You can check it in the PDF properties (file > properties).

    Kind regards

  • Help. Very stupid problem with the placement of word files.

As you can see I am a beginner total to Indesign. I don't know how but I can't place any text imported from Word into my project. Weird thing that if I create a new document it works. However, in this project I've done a lot of styles and other things so I don't want to start from scratch, so the question is:

Is there some option "I accidentally the entire project" and is anyway to fix it. [Or maybe export styles and master pages to another document?]

The problem with the placement of text word said that the text is too big (Red Cross).

    Ok.

There are a number of possibilities for what are the causes of the text immediately became excessive. Is usually only a problem with a youove of added restrictions that makes a too wide to fit in the frame line (but it can also occur if you have a set of "keep the option" which requires the text to stay together and there is inusfficient space to hold all the lines, or requiring that the text starts on an odd page / hand and the one you have is wrong).

The most common cause is probably the wrong application of the No. Break attribute. New users sometimes confuse this to how to disable hyphenation, but in fact it prevents any text to which it is applied to break even between words. Next most common, I think, is a long text string with nonbreaking spaces between the words (I see a lot of this in Word documents), and not allowing not standard, yet once, there are no place to get out.

I've also seen cases where the format for the text calls for a font size of very large size, which makes it impossible to fit the text, or when the dashes from left or right, in the paragraph style, override local formatting or text block options, are too large to allow the text to fit.

The best way to find out, in my opinion, is to choose the frame then go to Edition > edit in story editor, you can see and select the text and check these things.

  • Big freeze of ID of Word document text import

I converted a long Word document to PDF via InDesign and when I import the Word doc text, ID always freezes.

I want to preserve styles and formatting in the text but, unfortunately, the freeze occurs at the beginning when the progress bar of the document implementation of Microsoft Office Word 2007 displays either "treatment of attributes of character...". "or"processing the attributes of table... ". »

My problem is that it's such a document with a lot of italics, bold and styles I want to resume to InDesign in order to speed up the design process.

RTF will be fine and will retain all the bold and italics and other styles. RTF is synonymous with FORMAT of TEXT RICH and I think it's better than standard saved the word .doc; to import into InDesign.

    Try the following steps.

    In Word:

    1. File > save as
    2. Choose rich TEXT (that way you don't overwrite the original file)

    In InDesign:

    1. Start a new document - Virgin - don't worry about the page size (A4 will do) and you don't have to worry about margins (standard margin will do)
    2. Use file > place and import the RTF file you just saved
    3. If that imports ok - then select all text
    4. File > export and choose the format RTF (rich TEXT format)

Now use this new RTF import into your page layout

(there is no need to worry about the images, you must reimport all images that are in the word through file > Place; if you have images in your Word document.) Make sure that you use the same source file as when you did in Word)

The reasons for the above procedure is that there is a lot of unnecessary styles made with Word - and import in InDesign and export to RTF a charges makes a clean to use with InDesign file.

Take a look at that too - http://www.paperspecs.com/mainblog/degunkifying-word-files/

The machine works well for scan and fax a paper document manually.

But I can't get it to send a Word directly from Word document.  "Fax - HP Officejet Pro 8600" is among my printers, but when I select the 'printer '...

    (1) on the 'Send Fax' screen, I wonder for all sorts of information (for example, contact). If I type in a name, etc., the information disappears - and appears later in my e-mail address book.  By clicking on the "Contacts Fax" area shows nothing.

    (2) even if I could find a touch, the screen insists that I have add a cover page (do not want one).

    (3) there is an icon called 'My Document Fax' which I assume would choose a document (for example. Word) to send - but nothing happens.

'Add a Scan' will scan a document from the tray of the printer, but not what I need.

Is there a place online at Microsoft where I can recover my word document because I recorded my word document and it looks like my other computer crashed can't if it is recoverable. Has been working on a book and now do not know if I can recover what I saved? Please let me know if there is another way I can get my documents.

    Hi Suzanne,.

you know the path you used to save the document?

You use MS Word locally on the computer, or connect via the Web site?

You might get lucky and have saved in your folder OneDrive, which automatically synced to the online storage. You can find out by going to http://outlook.com and navigate to the folder OneDrive.
