DRMiller30, welcome to the forum.

The SMART test you when your hard drive is defective or does not.  In this case, I think that the hard drive has failed.  The only solution is to replace it.

Here's a guide to help you to restore the system after the hard drive has been replaced.  It's for Win 7.

Please click on the Thumbs up button '+' if I helped you and click on "Accept as Solution" If your problem is resolved.

The hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal quality of the original in order to use recovery media to install the drivers/software/Windows on the new hard drive. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can use a 750 GB hard drive, but not a 320 GB hard drive.

    Hello

PXE - E61:Media test failed is displayed because the laptop is trying to boot from LAN.
This can happen because the LAN option has been fixed in the first start position in the BIOS or because the phone didn t find any other sources bootable.

In many cases, this can happen because the HARD drive was not recognized.
Check if the HARD drive is visible in the BIOS must include details of the HARD drive in the BIOS
If this isn't the case, then the HARD drive is unavailable due to hardware problem.

It would also be possible that your CD/DVD drive cannot read the disc, and so the laptop can not boot from the disc.

All these questions can be releated to hardware failure... ODD or HDD, or both...

  • Portege Z830, PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

I have a problem on my Toshiba Portege Z830. After that I turn to the top of the computer, windows attempts even to start, instead, I saw the following message:

PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of
PXE - M0F: Exit Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.
    Press any key when ready...

From what I understand, it seems that laptop is trying to boot from LAN, instead of SSD.

I did that in the BIOS boot order is reasonable. It is:
    1 HDD / SSD
    2. USB memory
    3. USB WEIRD
    4. DISKETTE DRIVE
    5 LAN
I also tried to load the defaults in the BIOS, just in case.

I also tried to re - install Windows 7 and Ubuntu installation, USB. In both cases, Installer was not able to discover any drive where system could have been installed.

That seemed to me like a problem of material with SSD. And it's actually the second time I'll have it with this laptop. I got it about 4 months ago and at that time I sent my laptop certified Toshiba service in Zuerich. They sent it back, saying that the material was OK and he must have had a software problem.

To my surprise, after that they sent back for some portable reason indeed started working, I have not yet lost all data (didn't need to reinstall the system, everything worked).
I was happy, but since now the same thing happen again, I don't know what I have to do.

Whether any other SSD that hardware problem? If Yes, what else can I try?

If the only option is broken hardware, how can I make sure that this time he gets permanently fixed by Toshiba service?

    Thank you
    Alan

    > From what I understand, it seems that laptop is trying to boot from LAN, instead of SSD.

It's OK; the message appears if no other boot device could be found.

    _Question: _
SSD or HDD disk appears on the first page of the BIOS (size of the SSD drive and the name should be visible)?
In case the SSD drive isn't in the list, there must be a problem with this device and I guess you have to replace it.

    > If the only option is broken hardware, how can I make sure that this time he gets permanently fixed by Toshiba service

You simply ask the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country.
I guess guys will try to recover the laptop and where this is not possible, they would replace the faulty device.

  • Media Test failure

I tried to start the computer from my husband in Mode safe using the F12 key, but I get a message "Media Test Failure", then it goes back to restart again and again. What is the "Media Test Failure"?

    Micki,

Is the F12 key on your computer for advanced Windows Options? It is usually F8, you can try to run the hardware diagnostics of the system, and he might try to test a drive that is not available, such as a floppy drive. It happens on some older systems.
Call the manufacturer of the computer as it can also be a HDD issue.

There may be several reasons for your mistake.

Booting from the network can be assigned as what to start from 1st in the boot order.

Your hard drive may have failed.

Hard drive connectors may be loose.

    Hello

For me, it looks like a malfunction of the HARD drive and so the BIOS can not find a bootable device and goes to the last possible bootable option which is LAN.

The exclamation mark in front of the HARD drive indicates that there is a problem with the HARD drive so I think you need to replace the HARD drive and you need to reinstall the system.

    What should I do?
    Best regards

    Hey Buddy,

If you have tested the HARD drive in a box of another and external HARD drive laptop without success the case is clear: the HARD drive needs to be replaced because it s defective!

I can understand that you want to recover your data, but what do you do if you are not able to access? In this case you need assistance, a special data recovery lab, but it is not cheap and costs hundreds of dollars.

I m wondering that you don't have a backup. Have you never tried to do it or thought it would be useful?

Last but not least a new HARD drive can be ordered at a service provider authorized in your country or each computer store. Satellite L300 supports SATA 2.5 hard drives.

  • Portege Z30 - A - PXE Media test failure, check cable of

    Hello everyone,
Here's my problem: two days ago my Toshiba Portege Z30 - A turns off suddenly, and when it has reactivated the instead of displaying the usual Windows Home page at he showed a black screen with these lines written:

    'Intel(r) Boot Agent GE v1.5.43
    Copyright (C) Intel Corporation 1997-2013

PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of
PXE - M0F: Exit Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when ready... »

And every time I turn it on it displays this screen again.
Why is it like that? What should I do?

    Thank you very much
    Stefano

It seems that the system does not recognize your ssd more. Usually, the hard/SSD is the first bootdevice and whether it is empty or does not exist, it will jump to usb or networkboot. PXE = networkboot

Try to start with a live-stick and the check if you can access your SSD. Also see, if the bios/efi does not recognize the drive.

Worse: all your data is lost... (I hope you have a backup)
the positive: this question must be covered by the guarantee! If you are still in the first year and registered for the guarantee of reliability, you get your laptop repaired and all your money. xD

  • Qosmio F750 - Media test failure

    Hello

I have the laptop Qosmio F750 I bought about 2 years ago. I have a problem when the page Realtek PCIe GBE family controller series xv2.37 (20/10/10)
PXE - E61: media test failure, please check the cable.

At first I just turn off my phone and turn it back on again, and the page would leave. But now after 10 times, the page is still there. I tried pressing 0, while the laptop is running to reinstall windows. But the page just kept appearing every time than restarting the laptop. Now I've really frustrated m.

Do you know any suggestions? And by chance, where is the nearest service centre maroubra Toshiba?
    Thank you, appreciate it

I think somehow HDD is troublemaker of disorders and not recognized as a boot device.
Did you create the recovery disk? If Yes use this disc to check if the HARD drive is accessible or not.

I can't say for sure but I m afraid you need new HARD drive.

  • Satellite Pro C660-v10 does not start: pxe - e61 media test failure

    Hello

laptop was dropped accidentally, worked very well at the beginning but now does not.
Press f12 for the boot menu, the screen says,

PXE - e61 media test failure - check the cable.
    PXE - m0f too; output
PXE rom operating system not found. Please can someone explain what this means?

    > pxe - e61 media test failure - check the cable.
    > pxe - m0f; output
    > pxe rom, system of operation not found.
    > can someone please explain what this means

    Hello

The PXE error in most cases because the laptop can not boot from a CD-DVD or HARD disk drive and going to the LAN.

There's maybe one losing a contact between the HARD drive and controller HARD drive.

Select this check box. Open the HARD drive Bay and check if the HARD drive is properly connected.

If the HARD drive would not be recognized even if the connection is OK, then I would say that your HARD drive is defective and must be replaced.
