Player Windows media play wmv file

Whenever I try to play a wmv file it comes up with the error

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer"

It only happens with a certain file, and other files that are playing wmv files

Why I get this error?

This specific file is may be damaged or it may be coded in slightly different ways that others were.

If you want, try to download and install a good codec pack which I use myself. It can help to solve your problem. Codecs are not exactly the nicest thing to tinker with, but this one I use myself and is very nice.

It is the link, download and install it if you want to and let us know what happens.

  • Player Windows media play is not Itunes specific

I recently bought and downloaded music from the store of Tunes on my ipad and then sync my ipad to my PC. Music files have been successfully transferred to my PC. The album I bought appears in iTunes on my PC with 10 songs visible and works properly, however, when I went to play in Windows Media Player, a songs is not present, the other 9 were visible and works correctly. It happened to be the most popular song on the album that does not work. I had 5 months a similar problem when I bought a single on the iTunes store and it worked in iTunes but not WMP... I am aware that Microsoft says that the m4a files do not work in WMP, but I almost 100 m4a iTunes store songs which work fine in WMP and have been for more than a year. I made sure there is no restriction on the song and apple no longer uses DRM...

If anyone is wondering what songs I downloaded, the single I bought 5 months ago: hope in front of me, by Danny Gokey and the album I bought was by Chasen, the name of the album is that was then, this is now. The song which DOES NOT work in WMP and in iTunes is track 3: On And On. The most popular song on the album...

I just want to know what is the question, especially because 9 of the 10 songs on this album DO not work, because I like to use WMP while I'm at work and I'd love to hear my new songs as well as my 'old'.

    Thank you

Sorry - my fault - I missed a step! You must first change your rip settings in iTunes (it uses the rip parameter to create new versions too)

Open iTunes player..., albums lh corner select edition - preferences and on the 'general' tab, you will see (cd) import settings - select then in the menu drop-down superior encoder mp3... you must then define the quality in the next drop - I go to/128mono-256 (stereo) custom which is the equivalent of many downloads, as shown highlighted in the snip. Select and click OK... You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect and then you will get the option "create mp3 version". I hope that now you can go! -CIR

    Hello

    1. what operating system is installed on the computer?
    2. are you able to play videos other than video .wmv successfully?
    3. don't you make changes to the computer before the show?

    Method 1
I suggest you to check if the hardware acceleration of the display device setting is too high.

    b. click on the settings tab and then click Advanced.

    c. click the Troubleshooting tab, and then move the hardware acceleration to none.

    e. If the problem is resolved after you move the slider hardware acceleration to none, contact the manufacturer of the graphics adapter driver to determine if there is an update that resolves this specific problem.

    Method 2
The required codec is missing or damaged. If the problem occurs when you use a .wmv file, download or reinstall the latest version of Windows Media Player. If you use an earlier version of Windows Media Player, upgrade to the current version of Windows Media Player for your operating system.

If the problem occurs when you use a different format of video file, for example a .mpeg file or an .avi file, download or reinstall the appropriate third-party codec.

    Hello Nrbolton1,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers Forum.
    Try disabling UAC.
If the problem handles Disabling UAC uninstall all third-party plugins or codecs, sounds like a WMP plant where he has no administrator rights.

    How to turn off UAC?
Click Start > Control Panel > accounts user and family safety > user accounts > select your username > then click on change user account control settings and uncheck the box. Restart your computer for this setting to take effect.

Please post back with the results.
