pointer rolls randomly and moves its own

Original post: runaway pointer

My pointer has developed a small rectangle 3celled which appears at its end and makes the pointer carried on with a mind of its own. It also makes my uncontrollable roll screen.

Says MSFT security essentials I am free from viruses and malware.

What causes this?

How can I stop it?

I have windows XP w/SP3

  • selectingitems and trackpad pointer moves its own

I was watching a video of Amazon and may have struck a couple of keys, or my hand slipped in the keys - I don't know, but pointer froze on the follow-up to the film bar at the bottom of the screen (not sure if this is relevant, or what is called in fact this bar) in all cases, the pointer froze and then began to move erratically in bursts on the screen , selection of apps, ibooks, photos, etc. and then OPEN them as if I had clicked. Literally goes haywire as if it had a life of its own. I have NEVER experienced this during the 11 years that I've had the Mac laptop. I don't know if trackpads wear out (my current MacBook Pro is a vintage 2012 and I debated update, but it was working very well.) I wonder how to clean the dust/debris under keys because I know it can be done and I was wondering if something got under the trackpad (seems pulled by the hair) but it's really another question for me to continue. Any help on trackpad possessed pointer would be appreciated. I don't see that this issue anywhere else... - Pam

Remove the bottom plate and inspect the inside.  Pay attention to the battery to see if there are signs of expansion.  If so, take it out and have a new installed.  An extended battery can affect the trackpad.

  • Portege Z series - the mouse cursor moves its own

When I start my series Portege Z the cursor of the mouse moves by its own. Alfer several minutes (less than an hour) it stops and it works properly.
For your information on the laptop, the Antivirus is installed and updated: AVIRA and Spybot

What I tried to solve the problem:
    (1) I downloaded and installed the latest version of the pointer ALPS driver device that even so the same version was already installed. No result, same behavior
    (2) I tried with an external USB mouse, disable touchpad/pointing stick. No result, same behavior

    Suggestions, please?
    Thanks in advance

Maybe you can try to start with a Live CD/USB. If this problem occurs also with the OS Live the question is related to laptop. If not, it s a Windows problem and perhaps a recovery would solve the problem.

  • Re: Mouse cursor moving erratically and even moves its own

Hello. I hope you can help.

I have a Toshiba Satellite U500, less than a year and I have real problems with mouse cursor move where he wants, when he wants, even when my hands are away from the laptop. I ran every virus/trojan/software malware scan and there is no problem. Tapping is disabled and sensity etc. levels are low. I use Windows 7 and there is no problems until the last two days (apart from an occasional hour or two the same thing a few months ago.

Oh and I don't have an external mouse. only the Toshiba integrated one. Any ideas? He made work very difficult.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

try updating the driver for the touchpad:

    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

To be honest, I do not know what you suggest again that you have already scanned for viruses, disabled tapping, sensity levels. As it is the last hope to reinstall the operating system itself with a recovery disk

  • Precision touchpad 7510 periodically freezes, the cursor moves its own

Just got a new Precision Mobile Workstation 7510 a week ago. Out of the box and before installing updates or new software, the touchpad randomly every minute or so, stop answering the entry and the cursor would be very slowly thumbs itself (usually slightly crawling upward and to the right). This would happen for anywhere from a few seconds to 10 or if, before the touchpad would start working again. No change in the past week.

The pointer stick works as usual at the time the touchpad does not.

I tried all of the suggestions I found recommended or would think:

    • Reinstalling Windows from the original image (did this two times)
    • Reinstall the driver (I already had the last being, but I also well reinstalled and then removed and reinstalled version freshly downloaded from the latest version provided on Dell.com)
    • Disable the pointer stick
    • Deactivation of gestures
    • Unplug all devices, including the power adapter
    • Restart in Mode safe (persists, although maybe the normal touchpad driver is still loaded in Mode safe)

I was about to call Dell (I support Pro) thinking that it is a problem material, but interesting, there is no sign of trouble in the compatible installation screen mouse Dell GUI BIOS. I guess if it's a hardware problem, it would still appear there.

FWIW, the icon of Dell touchpad in the toolbar State system sometimes, but not always, poster touchpad entry at the center of the touchpad when this happens. The movement of the cursor is very slight - at a rate of a few millimeters to each instance, for a total of about an inch of arrow for more than 10 minutes (I'm looking at do it now while I have this post from my old machine).

Suggestions for anything else to try before I call support and schedule a call for a touchpad/palmrest of replacement?

Don't want to jinx it, but... it's been about 24 hours that the tech came out and replaced my touchpad and things worked great since then.

It seems that it was a material that delivers a replacement is resolved.

Thanks to Terry for configure sending tech support without making me go through all the hoops to talk to tech support. I have long been happy with Dell ProSupport, but Terry help me set up just to do very easily. Thank you!

    Hello

My Satellite P200D-128 seems to have a mind of your own.
It reduces web pages open at reduced size, it closes open pages and open closed ones.

I never saw something like this on computer before in my life the only thing that seems, is that on the pages of the American Toshiba, there is a computer that did this because there is problem with the transformer supplied with the computer, but I tried to run the computer off the battery and still had the same problem.

    Best regards

    Hello

I m sure that the problem described in the Toshiba post page in your second assignment is not the reason to deliver you.
According to the Toshiba site, your laptop series is NOT affected.

So there must be another reason for you question.

I ve searched the forum (maybe you should do it too) and found this topic:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/message.jspa?MessageID=107738

This problem seems to be related to the touchpad settings!
Try to change the settings in the Synaptic touchpad software and people with disabilities contact areas.

You can also use the USB mouse instead of the touchpad.

Sorry for my English. I hope that it is admissible.

I thought it would be easier if somehow, administrators may close a hotmail account and transfer the content to another.

Because I found very difficult to spend hundreds of emails from one account to another to not lose them when the account is closed.

I thank very you much for your time. Kind regards.

  • My cursor moves its own

I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium on it.  The problem I find is that when I am typing in emails and reports etc, I find suddenly that the letters are included in the previous sentences, paragraphs or just moving on different lines.  It's very frustrating because I keep having stop, fix the text and then continue.  Can anyone suggest why this is happening. -I had to stop 8 times while typing in this little piece of text to set it right.

    Hi Wendylb,

It lists 32 and 64-bit.  The platform you are looking for is x 86.  I downloaded the patch and got the 32-bit version.

  • Computer notebook Synaptics trackad pointer moves on its own-Looking for solution

I recently bought a new laptop Hp M6 - N010dx, and the trackpad Envy Touchsmart is already in place.
I installed the latest drivers for my pc, upgrade to 8.1 windows and twisted the sensitivity of the mouse, but I always have problems.

Sometimes the pointer will become difficult to move on the screen and then will move its own. Again, to move its own, as in, I'm not in contact with the laptop at all. It's very frustrating.
I can temporarily fix the problem or reboot my laptop or by writ put to sleep and then wake up again. However, I am looking for a permanent solution.

    Any ideas?

I decided to return the laptop to bestbuy. I found that many users have had this same problem with the same model laptop and no "solution" offered actually work (I even tried myself without result). It's really a shame because I liked this laptop apart from faulty equipment... I am considering getting the x 360, but he mixed comments as well.
This may end up being my last HP laptop that really, really bothers me because they are beautiful and affordable pcs

  • My IE homepage Google recognizes an Adobe Flash and my Firefox Google needs its own. Also, I can wish to cancel my Firefox entirely... something that conflicts w/one program Mozilla Thunderbird internal functionality, and/or Gmail e-mail? Thank you.

Thank you for reading this question as it is more: I lost my computer internal e-mail function Thunderbird and was new and didn't know how to put Yahoo or another in this function. I signed for Mozilla Firefox for my Toshiba PC laptop, really liked, but don't use it really. I have restored my Thunderbird program, using Gmail for IT... Yahoo had failed. If I decide to delete my Firefox will only malaffect my Mozilla Thunderbird? In addition, for a reason unknown to me, my Firefox does not recognize using the Adobe's Flash in my computer and requires its own...' usual? (I just deleted one of the two.) Thank you. Lynn

First of all, Firefox and Thunderbird are separate programs. You can use one or the other or both. If you decide to uninstall Firefox, which should not have any ill effect on Thunderbird, but of course, it's a good idea to make the regular backups of your computer in case.

Second, Internet Explorer uses a Flash owner drive, you don't need another one for Firefox. If you visit Adobe 'about' page using Firefox, you can push the plugin appropriate for you.
