Portege M400 - commissioning, problems of CMOS gel battery and dead

I bought this laptop used, initially assuming that it did not subsequently to see, not only it worked, but the screen is very good too (apart from a few dead pixels on where the back of the screen is dented).

It runs but it _doesn can't start always delivered. The power is on, then the disk of hard a light, (the wifi does NOT start in this case) and then after a little hard drive shuts off and then the fan goes hard. I've had a few cases where when turned on the hard drive light even turns on and it will take just the fan go hard after a bit and a case where (after it has been moved several times) the light is orange flashing light and beep. Only once.

After a few times, it ends by start, however it _freezes when moved or randomly_. When it freezes while it is on, the fan also goes up loud and clear after a little. I noticed that it is lagging time also, which it should not.

Battery CMOS _the seems dead_. The clock will sometimes even off the track when walking and at the time, it was when he was the last. I heard somewhere that the * # to the battery was: CR2032. If someone can confirm this *, please let me know.

I guess that this laptop is dropped or severely abused at some point in his life. It has several bumps on the back of the screen and the keyboard it noticeably worn. I don't have * manuals or CDs for this laptop * (if you have links to all of this, I would be happy).

I have personally had done so far, just replace the ram in total 4 concerts, which really speed up (when it works) and all the problems mentioned have not changed (plusent took place before the replacement).

I would have preferred to hear * any * potential solutions in addition to the replacement of the motherboard, which is my last resort for the moment.

Thank you.
(Problems are underlined and in bold is things I want answers to the.)

Has anyone of you contacted the service and asked for help?

  • Equium L10: Problem with the main battery and battery RTC

    Hello

I have the Toshiba Equium L10 and it is about 14 months old and I have problems with the battery and how much time it takes after a full charge. I also have problems with the RTC battery and an ERROR 0271: check date and time settings message when I turn on the laptop.

Regarding the battery, I can fully charge it upward in about 3 hours, but when I start to use it, apparently in the last few hours around one and a half or so and then it needs to be recharged. I can have down for about 40 minutes and then turn it off and come back later or in a day or two. How long should I expect from a fully charged battery?

About the batttery RTC, it really becomes a pain and I only started to get the message of the ERROR 0271 start-up, in recent weeks. I can charge the battery pack and then leave for a few days, but when I turn it on, I get the message ERROR 0271 on the date and time incorrect. Surely after a full charge, the RTC battery should last longer than a few days?

The manual says that if the RTC battery is exhausted or becomes weak, you must charge the battery of the CCF for 24 hours, in a different part of this manual indicates between 24 and 48 hours, but how can load you for long when the sections concerning the charging battery pack status after charging the battery you unplug the power adapter because leaving connected will shorten the life expectancy of the Battery Pack. So, how we can charge the battery of the CCF for 24 to 48 hours if we shouldn't leave the AC adapter plugged in once the battery is charged - which is nearly three hours. Suggestions about these problems would be appreciated.

Besides we all know that it is easy to change the CMOS/RTC battery in your desktop base unit, but is it easy to change in a Toshiba Equium L10?

    Concerning

    Brave0

    Hi Brave0,

The normal recommendation for the CMOS (RTC) battery is to leave the laptop connected to the power supply at least 12 hours when the main battery is fully charged. The charging circuit is going to hijack the current to the load automatically RTC battery and no current will be forwarded to your main battery.

Recommendation do not leave the power adapter is plugged in the main battery is fully charged is really only applicable to older laptops that used no batteries Li - ion and therefore they had to be completely discharged before recharging to avoid any effect 'memory' of the battery.

With modern Li-ion batteries, it is quite safe to leave the battery when fully charged and still power the laptop from the AC adapter. The charging circuit will pass all the battery charge if it is fully charged.

  • Problem with iTunes gel preferences and other issues.

I don't know why, but the week last iTunes randomly decided to not work: whenever I try to open the preferences panel it hangs and release only randomly after a few minutes only to freeze again when I change the tabs. Also, all devices that I connect so that open freezes iTunes, yet once it thaws in itself rarely after waiting an hour or more but crashes again soon after.

I tried everything short of wiping the disk and start from scratch (not an option to be honest): followed every single link help I found on Apple's site, used several malware scanner, defragmented, made several clean install iTunes and its components.

I'm on an ASUS N53SV win 10, latest version, all the updated drivers. I don't really know what else remains.

For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

  • Portege M400 - batteries do not charge

I recently bought a Portege M400 via a website selling popular auction, and all right, except that the battery won't charge. The LED does not illuminate and the machine is therefore not portable.
I bought a spare battery, but that does not work either.
This is clearly the laptop that has the problem, is there a simple solution?

It must have been OK once!
    Thanks for any help.

In my opinion, there is no simple solution because the battery charging is managed by the electronic Board (ESF) and I'm afraid that you need professional help.

    Can someone help me please?

I recently received the Portege M400 from a friend 4 days ago and reformatted for Windows XP Tablet Edition.

Have you installed the OS using a Toshiba recovery media or you have installed the version of the OS?

    Hello

I put t believe that you're not able to order a Toshiba Portege M400 Bahrain or Dubai. Google a bit on the net and I m sure you'll find a computer store or an online store that offers this device.

You can also try to contact Toshiba service partner in the Bahrain or Dubai.

  • Portege M400 and 3.60 BIOS

Ubuntu Linux running on the M400 and it seems that almost all BIOS version 3.60 prerequisite are broken because there are errors of the quirk on the CPU APIC. Perhaps Microsoft could circumvent the APIC tables broken for awhile but things with Linux is a bit bulky. Microsoft asked to Toshiba for a BIOS update to address these issues and it seems to be fixed from 3.50.

    See here

Even under Linux not more APIC errors appear. :-) But after the update from 3.60 BIOS splash screen remains active and keeps me to select an option for a boot (grub) multi entry. If the OS is already from the start screen become white first, then gives finally control the operating system. Others see this as well?

I am able to select something in my Start menu, but it is more guess the start screen is always at the top. Very annoying it :-(

Another issue I have is that sometimes the system freezes for a few seconds and then continues, nothing to see in the logs when you use a Tablet Ubuntu or Windows XP Home edition. So might be a bug in the BIOS once more. Yet once you are looking for confirmation, other know about this as well.

Reflash 3.60 a couple of times, but seeing this behavior over and over again.

Although it seems to be some control fan in 3.60. He does not like a DC9 aircraft, but were still not silent like the 1.80W or the 2.10N of BIOS versions. Nice to see these fan noise changes incorporated in 3.60 and later

    Hi Robert

I know you hate me, but the fact is that Portege M400 has sticker next to the keyboard and it says something like designed for Microsoft. With short words: Linux OS is not supported.

If you need help with Linux on Toshiba laptops please check http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html

Question about freezing is very strange and if you want to check properly install recovery without additional software image. In this case you will have factory settings and clean the preinstalled operating system. If you notice some outstanding questions, you must contact authorized service partner and clarify this point.

    Good luck!

  • Portege M750 - replacing the CMOS (RTC) battery

    Hello world

I have a Portege M750 model PPM75A-007010 and I need to change the CMOS (RTC) battery.

If someone can share with me
    -where to find this battery
-is normal around the battery and if you can tell me the number of battery?
    - or where I can buy this battery and price range?

    Thank you
    RC.

    Hello

Normally, the RTC battery in these models are rechargeable.
If not already done, please leave the unit on for the night (not disable, not extended, not sleep - but ON) and see if the problem is resolved.

I think the accusation-description/also the RTC battery is mentioned in your user manual.

  • Boot Portege M400 problem

    Hello world!

I had this Portege M400 for nearly 2.5 years and never met with such a problem.

When I press the power button / stop * HDD led light turns on, then WiFi and then suddenly the HARD drive off * and the rest in this way: (.) Eventually, the Toshiba logo appears at the same time. I thought that problem disc HARD just to know that after 90 degrees my laptop WHAT HDD led start flashing again. Eventually, Windows loads at startup animation it would 'safe' return to normal position and expected to start Windows.

so, I suppose the problem is somehow related to the accelerometer, is it? I don't get these gels after Windows starts. Currently I have version 3.8 BIOS and installed Windows 7 Pro...

It's really starting to annoy me - people look at me funny, as I switch my cell phone 90 degrees :-)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards
    Jovan

    Hello

Maybe it has something to do with laptops HDD?
Maybe the head of HARD drive cannot be moved correctly and the vertical position allows to get the drive moving head again
Unfortunately, I've never seen such strange behavior for laptop and so I can give you a few personal suggestions.
In my view, that the HARD drive should be checked at the first maybe the problem could be solved in replacement of HARD drive

  • Starting on Portege M400 problems

Sometimes my Portege M400 won't start and crashes, but sometimes it does.

This could be a software or hardware problem?

The hard drive does not start and the battery to the fron of the Tablet icon remains orange.

    Thanks Mick

    Hello Mick

It's really not easy to say what can be the problem. For each issue described by Word sometimes is not possible to give an accurate diagnosis.

When your notebook crashes? OS at startup?

  • Portege M900: Battery and load problems

I hope someone here could have helped me out in my problem. I bought my last Toshiba Portege M900 2010. I always want to plugin the charger my laptop when I am at work.

It presents a time that when I turned on my laptop, the battery was about to be empty as the remaining 7%. I took my charger and plugged. After 5 seconds it turns off without any warning or so.

I checked the lights in the laptop, the "light of load" is not on although charger is plugged into the outlet. I tried to use my Toshiba Satellite laptop charger and it worked.

I tried to disconnect the battery from the laptop Toshiba Portege M900 its place and plug the charger again but there still does not turn on.

So I took my Toshiba Portege M900 to nearest service center. But surprise when I arrived and on the problem of the technician, the laptop turned on after it was plugged. The technician said, he saw no problem because the laptop was in charge and it works right.

But when I took it home, whenever I have remove the magazine from the taking of the laptop, it turns off immediately without any warning eventhough that battery is charged to 100%.

And there were times, even if I remove the battery from the laptop but always plug the charger... the laptop will always be NOT PUT on.

I tried to check the Toshiba PC Health Monitor, but it seemed that the battery works well. What do you think seems to be the problem? Is it the charger, the battery, or the power supply or the motherboard?

    > Is the charger, the battery, or the power supply or the motherboard

I put t think its battery problem.
Why? Because the laptop does not power upward even if the battery is removed but connected to the power adapter.

    Jack _Power? _
Perhaps. It might be possible to equip jack or connection between the power supply and the card mother isn t ok.

    _Motherboard? _
It could be a problem with electronic control gear that is part of the motherboard but once more; It's just an idea

    _Charger/AC adapter? _
Hmm, you said that the adapter has been tested with another laptop and it worked. So maybe it s question no AC adapter.
But are you sure that other phones have not run to the battery power?
The adapter has been tested correctly? It is an open question.

    Another idea:
What version of BIOS you have installed the M900?
Find an update of the BIOS for the M900 protégé
    + Updated BIOS version 2.40 for Portege M900 and Satellite Pro U500 (for PSU56 *, PSU5C *, PSU5J *, PSU5Q *, PSU86 *, PSU8G * and PSU53 * ONLY) +.
    http://PC.Toshiba-Asia.com/support/drivers/details/30516

You will find a detail on the correction of a problem:
+ System can not turn on without using the AC adapter / CC after the battery has been detached and attached again. This problem has been fixed. +

Please check if your Portege M900 is one of the mentioned models and check if a BIOS update is available for your device.

  • Portege M400 - CPU cooling problem

Last year, when I had used my Portege M400 for 2 years, he started the deadlock occasionally. Sometimes [I couldn't even start it | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjNa8-c2Aro]. With cut and try the method I found the problem. The Spring wire which clasps the CPU radiator, it was with not enough force:

The problem was solvable by Berry to the claws spring begins to apply more force hugging the radiator of CPU:

Apply a new layer of thermal grease has been useful as well:

However, the solution works for only a few weeks. And then (especially if it's hot outside) the story begins again.

Any suggestions how to solve the problem once and for all? Thank you.

    Hi Greendrake,

It s really great that you are interested in your Portege M400 and you can remove it. It of really not easy and so this cannot be the people with a lot of experience.

Anyway, as you know here our forum user s only. This means that you can speak with normal people like you and me. I would recommend therefore to contact a service provider authorized in your country. Maybe the guys know this problem or something else or you need a thermal grease special because not all compatible thermal greases all cooling.

By the way: on the Toshiba site you can find a list of all service providers.

    I hope it helps. :)

  • Shutdown in Vista with a Portege M400 problems

    Hello!

I have a problem with my Toshiba Portege M400 (do not know if it is a matter for the Council of vista or portege support plate, anyway). I installed Vista Express Upgrade a few months ago and everything worked fine for a while.
But over the last 4 weeks, my laptop seems to have a problem when stopping down. No matter if she's just hibernates or shuts down completely, the computer automatically turns itself after being off for about 5 seconds.
I have to use the switch to turn it off again (and then it stays off). Any ideas? I haven't changed anything and it could be a hardware problem, but my guess is that it has something to do with Vista ;)

    Thank you

    Alex

    Hello

installed some software or tools/applications/updates? Sometimes, a small update can disrupt the entire system and preventing it from functioning. So, just check what has been installed and it may be useful to install the new bios, maybe update all drivers etc... Make sure that everthing is real and up to date.

  • Portege M400: Matter of time life battery

    Hello
I am looking to buy a tablet PC - was having a look at Portege M400 and model Tecra T7. Although the battery life would be tolerable, I suppose it depends on how you have configured the computer and how to use it - and I'd certainly a margin of safety for more than 5 hours (3 on the tecra). These models have the ability to swap a new battery in and out easily, or install a second battery to increase life expectancy?

    Thank you
