Portege M400 - Vista installation under the version of BIOS 1.80

Hello

I came to the decision to install vista on my M400. I upgraded my BIOS to 3.40. However, I really only want the quiet fan so I was wondering if it was possible to run Vista under BIOS v1.80 and, if so, whether it would impact performance in any way.

AFAIK Portege M400 (PPM40) is supported in Vista, but I don't really know what will happen with fan and noise. Just testing everything. If you don't like Vista, you can install recovery image at any time again.

I would like to reinstall the OS, but for the moment, I don't then so that it can boot from the CD that I can not change the boot sequence.

    Can someone help me please.

    Hello

    That s strange.
First of all, you can boot from the CD by pressing F12 and then you could choose ODD as a boot device.

Secondly it s interesting to know whether certain passwords (user or supervisor password) have been defined, because this kind of password could restrict by changing BIOS options.

  • Under the version release candidate of Win7, I was able to run Civilization 4 and Star Fleet Command 3

Under the version release candidate of Win7, I was able to run Civilization 4 and Star Fleet Command 3.  Now, after installing Win7 Ultimate licensed version, I can't play either of these games.  I followed all the recommendations posted on this site and others but have not been able to solve the problems.  CIV 4 does not work due to the cd when cd is in the drive and just SFC3 locks the computer.  I really like Win7, but think to give up and reinstall Windows XP, which would be a major undertaking at this stage.

    Hello Squidoutofguam.

Games don't work under Linux at all accepts by emulation, and to be honest with the applications as big and complicated as the games will not have much success.  They are written for Windows.

More details without some its going to be hard to solve the problems.  Obviously something is not configured properly with your machine, or there may be hardware problems at work here.  I had no problem with SimCity 4 or Civ 4 (even if I use a crack no CD for Civ 4) on my machine (64-bit).

The first thing I would do would be to get the latest drivers for your video from the nVidia Web site card.  The second thing I would do would be to close all background applications, and finally then I would probably run a test on your RAM, (just search Windows Memory Diagnostic in the Start Menu).  I have also try to create a new user account and try the games under this one.

If you could be more specific with what games works, by Microsoft do you mean the built-in Windows games, or titles such as Age of Empires, Halo or Gears of War?  And how they work not, error messages, crash dumps etc.  This would help. The organizer has operated correctly in Yosemite.

    The editor works correctly.

Will it be ever fixed or who's responsible for the breakup of the feature; Apple or Adobe?

    Anyone else have this problem?

Try trashing preferences of the organizer for both applications. Elements to leave and go to your library user (replace with your own name of 99jon)

    Macintosh HD > users > 99jon > library > Preferences

The best way to get to your library must throw Finder and in the menu click on Go while pressing the Optn (Alt) key, and then choose library. By default, the library is hidden unless the Alt key is pressed.

  • Portege M400 - where to find the touch screen XP driver

Hello, I was wondering where I could find the touch screen for my Portege M400-S5032 pilots.
I looked on the site Toshiba driver but could not find them.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Hi mate

Take a look at the Toshiba driver page we

  • On Portege M400 Vista recovery disc creation

I upgraded a M400 that came with XP to Vista Business. The Toshiba Recovery disk utility delivers a message 'no partition found HARD disk'. The management console displays a recovery partition - but there probably still recovery XP info.

Anyone have any ideas on how to transfer in a Vista recovery image in this partition? Is this available at Toshiba somewhere in the world? I can get my tech support people to hunt it if we know that there are...

    Hello

Maybe you should correctly format the drive and delete all partitions with an external program (like UBCD-> "Ultimate Boot CD") and then try again.

It may be that the XP recovery partition blocks the new recovery/installation process.

If I were you, I would try this format-thingy.

If not, take another HARD disk and try with that. ;)

  • Portege M400 - how to remove the Protector Suite fingerprint data

    Hi all

    (1) Protector Suite 5.4 sometimes generated a crash of Windows XP on my Portege M400.

    (2) I followed the suggestion of WinXP and upgraded to version 5.8. Unfortunately, this way I lost the automatic access features to Web sites protected by (the online help 5.8 says that this module is optional, but I have not found how to install it).

    (3) so I uninstalled the 5.8 and put again on the 5.4.

    (4) in the event of a disaster.

    (5) it is clear that the fingerprint data, updated to 5.8 format, are still somewhere in the system. Uninstalling Protector Suite's not destroy them. For this reason the 5.4 original does not do something, because in its user opinion data are corrupted. First of all, I can't remove/change data user from inside the program.

So, please, let me know where these data of fingerprints damned are so I'll be able to remove and Protector Suite from scratch.

    Thanks in advance.
    PEI

    Hello

I think there must be a folder or files storing fingerprints
But I m not sure where it is placed

However, as far as I know, you can use ONLY PS to enrol fingerprints.
    Have a look here:
    http://img22.imageshack.us/i/protectorsuite.gif/

There is an option that can cancel the stored fingerprints.

If uninstalling the software didn't help then use and clean the BONES and using a tool, for example, the registry CCLeaner.
It deletes all files and data on the HARD drive (in the registry) which have not been removed by Windows.

    Welcome them

  • Portege M400 - Vista specific management V8.02.00 power parameters

Laptop M400-170 with Vista OS and the latest downloads from Toshiba.

If you open the specific property of Toshiba Vista power management sheet (input shaft = > "TOSHIBA Power Settings V8.02.00"), you will see a property called '' Method of cooling' - very interesting.

But what is the difference between the two values "Battery optimized" and "cooling optimzed?

After a few tests, the interest drops because regardless of the value of this parameter, even after sufficient time for stabilization, * FAN behavior remains unchanged: it blows needless and extracted only cold air... *.

HM, the latest version of the BIOS? Maybe the powersaver software requires the latest version, I guess.

Another thing would be to close some programs running in the background and throttle certain functions (for example graph stuff) down to see if it stops blowing.

Can you please give a short feedback? Would be grateful.

  • Portege M400 - how to remove the condensation of water?

I received a second hand toshiba portege m400 mail and saw there probably a condensation of water trapped between the external display and touch screen behind her. because the screen in the upper left corner looks whitish. and the sender of the laptop said he wasn't there when he sent it. I have a picture of trapped moisture, for those who want to see it.

so, I opened the screen by unscrewing. and I saw that most of the moisture is stuck between the external screen glas and one other layer behind him, which I guess, is the part of the touch screen. who looks inaccessible. These 2? the layers form the upperpart of the screen.

the lcdscreen with all the electronics in this layer, form the lower part of the screen or if you want, cover. This part is now oke. He also had a condensation of water on it and I was able to gently wipe the little moisture of the lcdscreen without problem. This helped a bit with this problem.

but moisture remains trapped between the part of the touchscreen layer and this layer of glass in the upperpart of the screen/cover.

hoping to evaporate the moisture, I left the enlightened a bit more open for a day, I broke even the upperpart and the lowerpart of the screen. I applied a little of an infrared lamp, a remote backup heat. anything that did not help.

    * so, how can I remove the condensation of water? *

    * is there a way to remove a layer in the upperpart of the screen to reach the humidity? *

    Hello olekike

Please don t get me wrong, but I'm afraid, you need professional with this Mr. help as I see that your question is not answered for days now, and I think that nobody here has a lot of experience with this stuff.
View replacement OK but how to remove the condensation of water on the touchscreen is perhaps too heavy for us.

I recommend strongly to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. talking with the guys what we can do about it.

  • Portege 2000 - new installation using the PCMCIA CD-ROM XP

I try to install XP on Portege 2000 using the official PCMCIA Toshiba CD-ROM drive.

Install the XP disk boots fine, but after that Setup copied the files it blue screen (BSOD blue). I'm not very tech savvy, but I think it means that the BIOS can 'see' the PCMCIA CD-ROM, but that the real image of XP loaded by the installation program cannot, probably due to missing drivers for the PCMCIA CD-ROM?

Then, I thought that maybe I could use F6 to load additional drivers during the initial installation, but it is beyond me to create the right set of files required. I know that you can download the Freecom drivers, but I don't know what are the driver files from CD to use and how to create from scratch the txtsetup.oem file right.

Does anyone know how to properly use F6 and load the drivers for it?

I found a lot of messages suggesting I copy the installer to the HARD disk and launch the installation from there. My problem is that the XP installation is an upgrade CD, so I will ask you at a certain time to insert a previous Windows CD and if at that time there I don't have a working CD-ROM drive...

First post on this forum so be nice - I did a search but not find a thread with a real solution, but of course if I miss a please report!

    Hello

I managed to install Windows XP Home the Portege 2000 using the PCMCIA reader but I ve used recovery disks original Toshiba which includes the correct driver for external optical drive.

So far I tried not to install Windows XP Home edition, using the Microsoft installation disc.

Maybe you should get the disks of facilities and not use this upgrade disk. I think that on this path, you will be able to install WXP as suggested when you copy data from facilities at the disk directly.
Have you tried to get the original recovery disc Toshiba WXP?

  • Portege M400 does not accept the hard drive built into the boot password

First I assigned a 9 character long password BIOS via the security utility help my new Toshiba Portege M400 (M400-139) with Windows XP Tablet Edition.
He asked me if I also want to use the same password "repeated" to cover the 22 or so (I don't remember) characters long password of HDD, and I said ok.
Then, I removed the BIOS password. But couln can't remove HARD drive password.

I then created a different password which has been long 1 character and removed, but the HARD drive password remained.
When I rebooted the system, he asked me the 'HARD Word built-in disk '.
I tried to enter both the 9 and 1 character long passwords, but it says not 'certified '. What should I do?

Should I write tha password over and over again, until it reaches 22 or more characters?
If this is the problem, then, the number of characters long?
I also think that the keyboard layout mapping can be a problem.

I have never changed the setting page, but maybe that the default value of the plant is different from a windows.
But I used only numbers and letters of international standard.

    I need immediate assistance.
    All my work is interrupted.

I put t know if you have inserted the right HARD drive password or not but the non-certified message said that the inserted password is certainly not correct.
Someone said that the message uncertified might if poster if you laptop was send hibernation instead of the stop mode mode after the password has been set.

But I don t think that this could be relevant in your case.

One question; have you tried to delete the password for HARD drive via the password of Toshiba or in the BIOS utility?

Please check if you can edit/delete in the BIOS because I found the info in the manual M400 you must use the BIOS Setup to modify, delete the disk HARD ot password to set the password master HD!

The manual also provide information if you forget the user Toshiba HARD drive password will not be able to help you and your HARD drive will be rendered completely and permanently unusable! When save the HARD drive password stop or restart the computer. If the computer is not shut down or restarted, the recorded data (password) cannot be correctly included!

So maybe that's a reason why you can not change the HDD password?  :|

  • Problem with the installation of the Version.

Hey guys, Ive had some trouble getting the most recent 10.0.45.2 Version, he says that it is the version that I am about to install, but when it's done, he told me "Version 10,0,32,18 successfully installed", it's a bit of a problem :/ was a few things out there, I can't use because it's the version.45 who needs.

If any help on this issue would be great and it's just me getting this problem. ?

Hi BW, thanks for the info. Adobe Flash Player does not remove the previous version when you install the current version.

    Download uninstaller on your desktop:

    http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/141/tn_14157.html

Download the Flash Player for Firefox on your desktop:

    http://fpdownload.adobe.com/Get/flashplayer/Current/install_flash_player.exe

Re-read the Instructions to uninstall that first link, so that you know what to do.

After that you have on your desktop, and then below you will find some pre-one/In(Uninstall/Install) that needs done.

Because you can have the DLM(download manager) in Add/Remove or programs and features, I would suggest removing it if it is in the list. Also look for a getPlus and also remove it. Both of these can interfere with your installation. After you delete one or both, Reboot (restart) your computer.

You MUST use the administrator account that you need permission to install the ActiveX control and to write to the Windows registry, which Flash Player needs to do. What problems do you experience when using the Admin account? Is it the UAC or protection Mode?

The reason why I asked know what A / V and firewall you are using is because after you run uninstall from your office, when well even you can have turned off the A / V and firewall, you must restart. Several A/V/firewall programs will be re - activate themselves when restarting. Therefore, when you run the installation, then they will block it. So unless you know how your A/V/Firewall works in this regard, you can return this Detail.

There is no need to access Flash files at this time due to your answers. After installation, we can do it and I'll give you directions.

    Thank you

  • Portege M400 - where to find the Bios 3.80 changelog

    Hello

is there a place where I can find the changelog of the version of the bios 1.80 to 3.80? should I upgrade?
-do you have any experience by changing the fan? mine makes sounds that belong not here...
-How long in your experience can take to get a response from toshiba support by e-mail? IM waiting 3 days now... :(

    Thank you

    Hello!

I can t find a log of the changes on the Toshiba site also but why do you want to upgrade the BIOS? In my opinion a BIOS update should only be done if you have problems with your laptop or something else.
Never touch a running system! ;)

Before you exchange the fan you need to clean using a jet of compressed air. This could blow the dust from the cooling fans, and you should do from time to time.

    Good bye
