Portege Z930 - SDS Partitions

I just got a Portege Z930 and explores various things until I'm heading on installation of software, etc.

I noticed that 128 GB SDD related just 100 GB of space which seemed rather restrictive.

So I checked and found that the drive has four partitions.

1.46 GB labeled recovery Partition
100 GB of the main boot partition
4 GB labeled Hibernation Partition
13.5 simply labeled GB main partition

Given the limited space on the disk, I wonder if the 13 GB partition made something useful and if it could be deleted and added to the main partition to gain a few extra GB space...

Anyone know what that the 13.5 GB partition for?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

Akuma is right. This partition is recorded recovery image that can be installed if something goes wrong with preinstalled operating system. Don t play with her and with the structure of partition before you have created a recovery media.

Please read the document of the user s manual and create recovery media USB that you can use for installing the OS. After that, you can even format this 13 GB and use it to back up data.

  • Adding additional partition D for Portege Z930 with that 256SSD

I just got a new portege Z930 i7 with 256 ssd and Win7 pro 64. It starts with 4 partitions already installed.1.46Gb recovery, 217 GB C, 8 GB hibernation and a 11.9 primary with the only option to remove.

I can shrink the C drive to 110 GB offering 110 GB unallocated. But if I try to format the unallocated space it tells me that this will change to dynamic disks and there is not enough space.
I have a D drive for the data. How to do this?

    Hello

I recommend to use the 3rd party software called * Gparted.*
It of based on the system Linux and you could create bootable USB flash memory stick containing Gparted tool.

It is great for partition management.

  • How to partition my new Portege Z930 HARD drive?

    Hi all

I recently bought the Toshiba Portege Z930. I would like to create a new partition (for example D: /) on your hard drive, to store data, music, etc., and let the current C: / drive only for the use of the operating system.

The problem is that I can't follow the normal procedure of partitioning my HD (via the Windows disc or by other software such as EaseUS Manager) because my Portege Z930 already has 4 primary partition created by default! Namely, these are:
    -1 1.46 GB recovery partition
    -1 8 GB hibernation partition
-1 (hidden) 9.96 GB primary partition and finally
    -1 219 GB main partition

As said, there are currently 4 primary partitions, which corresponds to the maximum number of primary partitions, I have. To create a new partition, one of these 4 must be transformed into a logical partition.

I don't have to know if such a thing would be correct, or it would be the cause of the problems of the operating system etc. Also, I don't know which of the 4 above is more appropriate be transformed into a logical partition...
I tried to contact Toshiba but the contact is very difficult with them.

    (1) does anyone have an opinion well informed about this?... happened... ?
    (2) I should I turn one of the 4 primary partitions above in a logic (and if so, where?)
    (3) what is the use of 4 partitions mentioned above?

Thanks in advance for your comments,

    Hello
Windows 7 is pre-installed on this laptop?
Windows 7 needs the first (1.46 GB) partition to store files for the repair of the system.
For example: in case something goes wrong with the Windows 7 system is able to automatically repair and this backup files on that partition. Don t touch!

The primary partition (hidden) 9.96 GB seems to contain the image of Toshiba files.

These image and music files is very important in the case where you want to create the Toshiba recovery disc (or USB) or you want to retrieve the laptop using Toshiba HDD recovery option. Don t touch if you haven't created the recovery disc!

The main score of 219 GB seems to be the system partition. This partition contains the Win 7 OS.
The 8 GB partition is not known to me but you wrote there seems to be a hibernation partition. Maybe its required for hibernation data.

However, first I recommend you to create a recovery disk.
It is an essential environment where you want to set the laptop back to factory settings.
You can change the partitions on the HARD disk.

In General, you can have 3 primary and 1 extended partition or 4 primary partitions.
Extended partitions can contain logical partitions for example: private data.

  • Portege Z930 - Downgrade from Windows 8 for Windows 7

    Hi all

I have serious problems with my new laptop Portege Z930-138. I wanted to downgrade from Win8 to Win7 and transferred my old iso of Win7 on a bootable USB.

I changed the BIOSsetting CMS BIOS in order to boot from USB and it worked.
But later, I deleted all partitions on my HARD drive in order to have a primary partition where to install my old Win7.

    However I can't do!

Now I have 1 GB 119.1 unallocated space and there is no way to create a new partition from it.
Also when I try to install Win7 it says the disc's style GPT.

I also tried to convert it from the command prompt, but it does not work.

You guys have any ideas what to do?

  • Portege Z930 - question of Toshiba Recovery Media Creator

    Hello
    I have a toshiba portege z930 pt234e with Windows 7 Professional
I have connected the external optical drive and has worked fine
But when I installed the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, the external optical drive disappeared
When I open the box drive HARD Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, shows, no. recovery!
I want to do a system recovery disc

    Hello

The Recovery Media Creator is a tool of Toshiba which requires Toshiba image files to create the recovery disk. The image files are placed on a different partition called recovery of HARD drive partition.

If the HARD drive has been changed or deleted this partition, the recovery media creator will not be able to find image files and you will not be able to create this disc.

So my question is: you reinstall Windows 7 at your own hand? Did you change the HARD drive in the past?

  • Portege Z930 - upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro

I bought the upgrade to 7 to 8 during this promotional offer in early 2013, but so far I was expecting a better time perform the upgrade. I'm doing the upgrade having prepared a USB pen with the ISO, I downloaded in 2013.

However, after 20 minutes of work, about 99% it is said that the upgrade has failed.

I read somewhere that it is perhaps because of the recovery of my Portege partition.

    Someone have faced similar problems?

  • Portege Z930: The update of the BIOS with LINUX/UNIX OS

    Hello.

I manage a COMPUTER company, and some of our facilities are portege z930.

We use Linux as main OS, and in order to use all the disk space, we erased the Windows partition.

How can I update the BIOS of a Linux operating system? I asked a support company official technichal, and they told me that they use a special live linux CD managed by Toshiba.

I don't know if I can get this cd somehow live. If this isn't the case, I would like to know how to upgrade our Bios without having to reinstall the Windows operating system.

    Thanks in advance!

As far as I know on the download page of the BIOS that Toshiba offers the Windows version only. Of way General Linux is not supported.
Try to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Maybe they can get this special CD.

By the way: why you didn t prepared machine (BIOS update) before starting to install Linux?

  • Portege Z930 - 12 H - update of the BIOS and McAfee Endpoint Encryption?

The update to the latest BIOS (Ver.6.70) for my laptop Portege Z930 12 H comes with the warning:

«If you use the BitLocker Windows Drive encryption, please temporarily suspend (or turn off) before BitLocker Drive Encryption updated BIOS.»

The same caveat applies to McAfee Endpoint Encryption, which is used on my laptop and I can * not * pause or stop? Or can I apply the upgrade of the BIOS safely?

    Thank you.

As much I know Bitlocker isn't related to Antivirus from McAfee software and two security tools are not connected to each other. BitLocker is a tool for Microsoft Windows and McAfee is a 3rd party software preinstallation on the device.

I found a nice how doc on the update of the BIOS.

  • Portege Z930-146: BSOD running Win 7 64 bit - support pointers and advice

    Hello

First post following the latter (academia / business) purchase of a Portege Z930-146 (serial number XC141056H, short PT235E part number).

Configured the pre-installation software 64 - bit W7, local installed, delivery to the primary user (the boss).

User reports 3 BSOD in a few days - I have the mini-decharges and made first order analysis using blue-screen display:

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA (ntoskrnl.exe)
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (dxgkrnl.exe)
    MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (ntoskrnl.exe)

We really are the guys from UNIX, so it is not familiar territory.

I just updated the BIOS but now have a long (50 +) list of possible drivers also be updated. One at a time to download and install?

I ran the diagnostics memory and disk - without errors or warnings that are reported.

Can someone identify a likely problem, or direct me gently in the direction of the road to official support of Toshiba please or suggest next steps?

    Thank you in advance,

    GLM

Ntoskrnl.exe is a Microsoft kernel boot and the dxgkrnl.exe seems to have something to do with the chart.

I recommend to check if the update of the display driver would improve the performance of the system.
Then visit the Toshiba UE driver page, select the Satellite Z930 PT235E and download the latest display driver Intel.
Z930-146 was equipped with chip Intel HD Graphics 4000, so you need the Intel driver.

You can also try to download the driver directly from the Intel page since they always provide the latest version.

  • Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after upgrade to win 8 - can't turn WiFi switch

After several months waiting for my hour I just began my Portege Z930 - 11G for Windows 8 Pro upgrade.

To a large extent, it went to the plan except that, after execution to display the Assistant Toshiba Upgrade I lost the Fn key and about half of the keys no longer seem to work at all.

The only key I've ever used on a routine basis is the Fn + F8 option to activate the power switch WiFi.

So now, I can not turn on WiFi on the computer.

It must, surely, that there be a way to do it, but I'm not. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now because I have a local cable system in the House, but once I get out on the road I will fight without WiFi.

Before running the wizard upgrade of the Fn key grew up the key appear in the upper part of the screen and I want to surely I had turned on WiFi right here.

The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the possibility to do anything else than to disable five notifications screen for keyboard backlighting, power plan, touch pad and cursor overlay digital overlay.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Andrew

    > So now I can not turn on WiFi on the computer.
First of all, you can enable and disable the WiFi using the function key, but you can also activate the WLan settings of Windows 8
    Key Win + C-> settings-> change PC settings-> wireless

Now, you can use the cursor to wireless devices to enable or disable the WiFi network.

But to get the FN button work you need to install the + Toshiba function key + Utility for win 8 and + Toshiba system driver + to win 8

    Hello

I just got my new Toshiba Portege Z930 pre-installed with Windows 7, along with two discs Windows 8 Pro. It is a good pc, but with no cd player, how do I install Windows 8 on the disks?

    Sincerely

    > but with no cd player, how do I install Windows 8 on the disks?
You can use an external USB CD/DVD drive to boot from disks to win 8.

Or you try to install the 8 Win using a flash USB memory sik.
But in order to install the memory flash USB one Win 8 Win 8 ISO (image) files is necessary.
In addition, you will need to create a bootable USB. You can do this by using the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool

  • Portege Z930 - network WLan problems

    Z930 Windows 7 is 3 years old.
I'm having problems connecting to the home network and I do not understand the clues to work towards a solution.

Other laptops can connect to the wired network and wireless, but cant Z930, or down and will not show the home network.

    Appear networks nearby.

Z930 can connect to the point of mobile internet access on phones, but that does not provide access to servers and network.

Disable the Firewall Norton 360 and the protection doesn't seem to help.

At a time and only once, I saw the message invalid network address.

Logical, said the material is OK because can connect to the wifi phone.

I don't know where to begin try andworkout why z930 can't seen to connect to the home network.

    > I'm having problems connecting to the home network and I do not understand the clues to work towards a solution.
I want to be sure I understood your problem:

You ve set up the wireless network at home (I assume you are using the WLan router, etc.) but you are not able to connect the Portege Z930 to your wireless home network.
    Is this correct?

Since you are able to connect this notebook to internet hotspots (public WLan) I guess the wireless network for laptop s and WLan card driver are installed and are working correctly.

Are you able to connect the laptop to the internet using LAN?

In case this also not possible, you must reset your router and should go through the router options unique to ensure that each option has been set correctly.

In addition I recommend you renew the IP address by typing this command using the console (to start the console type CMD in RUN)
In the Console (black DOS window), you must type: + IPCONFIG / RENEW.
This would renew the ip address that is assigned automatically the provided by the router ip address pool.

  • Portege Z930 - FN keys issue - showing no no menu on screen

    Hello

I have toshiba portege Z930 and my function keys worked until I installed YAC (yet another cleanser) to get rid of some malware, which worked, but the problem is that even after uninstalation, function keys is broken:

FN + y/z which should highlith the keyboard does not work (I have installed what is called the "function key" for now, that works as well with the FN 1, 3 FN, FN 4 and 3 + 4 to volume)

but others simply does not work:
    FN + ESC (mute)
    FN + F2 (eco mode)
    FN + F5 (control switch)
    FN + F8 (wifi/bluetooth switch
    FN + F9 - 12

Could someone point me to good drivers for this? Thank you very much
    Karolina

    What Windows system is installed?
In the case of Windows 7, you need to install Toshiba Value added Package
In the case of 8.1 to win, you need to install the Toshiba system parameters.

But be careful: some FN key features depends on the 3rd software. For example, you will not be able to use the FN + F2 if eco mode ECO Utility isn't installed.

But why n t give you the OS at the beginning point of time until you have used the cleaning tool?
