Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after upgrade to win 8 - can't turn WiFi switch

After several months waiting for my hour I just began my Portege Z930 - 11G for Windows 8 Pro upgrade.

To a large extent, it went to the plan except that, after execution to display the Assistant Toshiba Upgrade I lost the Fn key and about half of the keys no longer seem to work at all.

The only key I've ever used on a routine basis is the Fn + F8 option to activate the power switch WiFi.

So now, I can not turn on WiFi on the computer.

It must, surely, that there be a way to do it, but I'm not. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now because I have a local cable system in the House, but once I get out on the road I will fight without WiFi.

Before running the wizard upgrade of the Fn key grew up the key appear in the upper part of the screen and I want to surely I had turned on WiFi right here.

The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the possibility to do anything else than to disable five notifications screen for keyboard backlighting, power plan, touch pad and cursor overlay digital overlay.

Any help gratefully received.

Andrew

> So now I can not turn on WiFi on the computer.
First of all, you can enable and disable the WiFi using the function key, but you can also activate the WLan settings of Windows 8
Key Win + C-> settings-> change PC settings-> wireless

Now, you can use the cursor to wireless devices to enable or disable the WiFi network.

But to get the FN button work you need to install the + Toshiba function key + Utility for win 8 and + Toshiba system driver + to win 8

Hi, John. It's quite nervous of a member of the MS forum say that Dell is responsible to operate Windows. It wasn't Dell but MS who claims that Win10 has most of the necessary drivers and if not then the drivers Win7 and Win8.1 would work.

I doubt that it is possible for two reasons. Dell went from IDT Realtek as the audio seller so probably not more a a contract with IDT, if IDT even exist anymore. A year ago IDT was acquired by another company. I do not know its current status, but it is sure that the acquiring company will not be upgrading old software IDT. Reference Dell itself does not write the audio drivers. Even when IDT was the seller I believe that Win7 drivers are the final versions - no version 8 or 8.1 I think.

The native Windows audio driver can't stand struggling external mic. It is a MS 'known problem '. MS must implement a decision-making support, but there is no indication that it will be. Meanwhile, you have two workaround solutions. You can switch backwards between the natives and the IDT drivers. At some point Win10 could leave the IDT driver works correctly. Or get an outlet cheap usb audio to the microphone. Struggling running out-audio driver usb Windows native usb and so dependent no driver IDT.

In this case the EPROM has to be reflashed once more using crisis disk BIOS.
Usually this must be done by authorized maker Toshiba. But of course this will be possible only if the EPROM module has not been too bad.

What to say: try procedure (link above) posted by Bob. In which case it will not work, ASP is your next contact point.

  • Portege Z930 - 14 X - need key for the new installation of Windows 7

    Hello

our company bought a Toshiba Portege Z930 - 14 X, and it is necessary to do a clean install of Windows 7.

Unfortunately there is no key working Windows 7 can be found anywhere on the unit.
I read the installation key, but the key is not supposed to be activated, so does not work for a clean install.

There is usually a sticker of license at the bottom of the device, but this laptop has nothing.

So, where can I find this Windows 7 key?

    Kind regards

    > Unfortunately there is no key working Windows 7 can be found anywhere on the unit.

If you want to use a clean Windows system, you must purchase the MS Windows disk containing the serial key.
Toshiba laptops are preinstalled with Toshiba image containing the OEM version of the Windows system and drivers. This image is already enabled. The series key isn t necessary.

  • Delete this key after upgrade?

Number of files remained since XP after upgrade from Microsoft store download. I scanned with Onecare? and also in playback of files with Notepad I get info on too many files of previous OS. I started to test the registry database. I have Computer\HKEY - Local - Machine\Software\C07ft5y\ WinXP do you know what it is because I think that it should be deleted. I've already removed the Windows.old folder when it was shown to me by disk cleanup.

    Hi StillVista,

This link might give you a better idea of what the key: http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-450340.php , especially to look at the number of positions 5 and 6. If you decide to delete (and I'm not able to say whether or not you should) then I suggest that you back up your registry database before making the changes, just in case where to remove it has a detrimental effect on windows. First question:
After the upgrade of Windows 8 to 8.1 Windows did you download the installation drivers Toshiba and such software mentioned in the installation instructions located on the Toshiba UE driver page?

Its very important to install and update the Toshiba Utilities to get a good Win 8.1 working system.

  • Satellite A660: After upgrade to Win 8.1 BSOD is displayed using the keyboard

    Dynabook i7 3D laptop A660.

OK; so I updated my i7 3D Dynabook to form 8.1 Windows (x 64) Windows 7 (x 64), and now the laptop restarts everytime I start to touch the keyboard.

    Other wise works perfectly.

It took me two hundred hours to understand that I was typing on web sites usually when this re-boot occurs. And I could not remember how or why the computer restarted.

When I press the numeric keypad 'more' sign, I get the BSoD immediately. But there are a few presses of the numbers on the keyboard so he can do the same thing.

    I.E.
    If I press 1, 2, 3, its ok.
    But
    If I press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, the laptop gets a BSoD and restarts.

I also installed automatic software (mouse) for a Microsoft mouse, that I was going to use. and I deleted in the "System Properties" after the problem has arisen; but there is no change.

Whenever I tap on the number pad (especially the plus sign), the PS stops with a blue screen of death BSoD.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Roger,
My knowledge the 8.1 Windows isn't supported by Satellite A660 because there is no driver Windows 8.1 special to this series of portable, but even if these drivers have not been released, is not a big problem to install and run the Windows 8.1 on this unit.

I m wondering how you installed the 8.1 to win on this laptop?
You upgrade Windows 7 to 8.1 Win or were you running a fresh install of Win 8.1?

Here's a nice page of Microsoft providing some FAQ about update for Windows 8.1
    [Windows 8.1 update: FAQ | http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8]

In case you have done an UPGRADE to 8.1 Win, you can use Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant to check if your programs and devices are compatible with Windows 8.1.

I would be also interesting to know if the same BSOD would appear if external keyboard would be connected to the laptop.
When using the external keyboard would cause NOT of BSOD, I guess internal keyboard is faulty and could be the troublemaker.

  • No output micro HDMI after upgrading to Win 8.1

My new Yoga 2 Pro has a secondary display connected via micro HDMI port. He first worked as a charm. But after upgrading to new Windows 8.1 (this is done automatically) it is no longer produced anything to micro HDMI port. Display and the cable is fully functional. But even if the screen is turned on, the computer is unable to save and apparently it cannot display anything. Micro HDMI port seems to be non-existent.

After upgrade of windows, I tried to uninstall / reinstall the display driver. I also upgraded to Win 8.1 Intel drivers versions found on the support site of Lenovo (including the BIOS display driver Intel HD 4400 15.33.18.64.3496 and chipset 9.4.0.1026, 76CN38). But nothing seems to work.

A solution in the forum is to change the cable, but I think that there is no sense here that the cable worked perfectly until the upgrade.

    Can anyone suggest a solution?
