POS for ESXI backup

Hello

I'm under two-node esxi cluster. Run 10 vm in total with a capacity ranging from 300 GB to 750 GB.

Got a box of SIN and the thought of attaching the backup of the virtual machine on that storage. Can configure it like NFS or CIFS only.

Few questions;

1 would like to know that means the limit of .5TB, 1 TB or 2 TB in POS devices?

2 Does .5TB are limit for CIFS, 1 TB to 2 TB on VMFS or NFS store? This means destination anywhere where I'm going to keep backup of virtual machine?

3. as the size of the VM/s total in my case is about 3 TB and 4 TB does that mean I can't backup all my vm with a camera or made with 2 device?

4 FAQ tell a device by ESXI that means I limit of 2 devices in 2 host cluster?

Breg,

Sushil

1. While EGGS installation where should I have to install it? He the dedupe destination stores say 3.02 TB as above and it may be any little other than dedupe store LUNS.

It should be deployed in the vCenter (vCenter where VMS to protect). You can always start with a provisioning end if you do not 3.02 TB of space.

See this article from blog for a rapid deployment & configuration - http://onevirtual.wordpress.com/2013/11/15/vdpvsphere-data-protection-5-5-deploy-configure-quick-start/

2. in case if it is other than the store of de-duplication how will it will be added to the egg apparatus.

You have the option of choosing several data stores all in configuration - the article above should cover this information too.

3. as NAS deduplication box will be present on the production network and will be accessible via the network of production only. Does have any performance issues?

Check if you can take advantage of adding hot instead of backup on network.

    Hello guys,.

I want to know what backup solution to use for ESXi 3.5. We have 5 host and now 5 virtual machines but we are planning to grow.

    Thank you

You can use VCB for free, but it is "just backup, nothing more" and base command line.

Veeam Backup offers features very good, but a bit expensive.

  • The new Cluster of 5.5 ESXi backup solution.

    All,

We have built a new Cluster on ESXi 5.5 with 2 servers DL380 G8 (hosts) and a HP Storevirtual 4330 connected via iSCSI to SAN storage. ISCSI all have 4 cards attached to an iSCSI network 1 GB Switch.

The HP Storevirtual 4330 has 7 TB of space but will be 1-1, 5 to virtual machines and the data on it. processors Xeon 2 x 16 and 256 GB of RAM in each host.

There are 10 VMs (2008 R2) server on the cluster.

I also have a G8 DL360 with 5 TB of space on it and an autoloader CF HP 1/8 (I need to make the weekly and monthly strips for compliance requirements).

I have 4 additional network adapters in the present to connect to the iscsi san network if it is an advantage.

All my previous backups were backups on tape, but will have to be different.

I was wondering what is the best solution for me compared to

What types of backups are best (instant storevirtual, POS or software (Backup Exec and VEEAM are my options)

Where to store data backups (SAN or a space on the backup win2008 server)

What kind of backup gives less impact on the performance of the SAN, hosts or VMS running.

Deduplication is assistance in the management of space, if so what should it be set up.

If you use StoreVirtual as the underlying storage, no doubt, then take a look at Veeam that deeply integrates the device said, allowing you to use SAN snapshots during the backup process. This, in turn, considerably improves iterator and reduces the impact of the activities of backup from the production environment.

Apart from him, you can install VB & R on the above mentioned physical server and connect the device to tape it. This deployment will allow you to archive the backup data in the midrange of tape on any basis you want, using special adhesive tape work.

    See you soon.

  • Using POS for physical servers

I'm looking for details on the features of backup of POS for physical servers.

VMWare documentation indicates application agents support support for physical backup SQL, Exchange, and Sharepoint servers.  I'm trying to know if POS can also get a filesystem backup for file servers and other applications that are not SQL, Exchange or Sharepoint.

Can VDP save system files from one physical server?

The documentation is correct. VIENNA can only backup physical systems using the SQL, stockbrokers & Sharepoint. It is not a way to back up a physical file using VIENNA server.

    Does that answer your question?

  • Optimal configuration for ESXi 5.1 scenario

    Hi all

Ive got a new i - 3 DELL T110 II server which will be used for the backup of virtual machines on an ESX 4.0 host.

IM under ESXi 5.1 to a USB flash drive on an internal slot, but this is where I'm looking for assistance.

Ive got 3 x 500 GB sata drives that I intend to run a RAID 5 configuration, but doesn't quite do all homework and Im stuck stuck with a PERC S100 RAID controller.

Virtual machines that I will support up to are limited resources Suse Linux servers - be bad using veeam backup on the ESXi host.

I was able to combine the 3 disks in a data store on the ESXi host, but that is not really giving me any redundancy with the readers, if one of them fails.

    Question:

Should I bite the bullet and get a hardware RAID controller? If Yes, who would probably be the best compatible model?

    Or

Is there any other configuration I can configure to provide redundancy on my data without the need to use a hardware RAID card.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

Hardware RAID is always a better solution/practice. Please take a look at the http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=san HCL and select the appropriate pattern you are looking and confirm his support. Hope that answers your query.

  • Help Setup RAID SATA for ESXi 4.1

    Hello

It is the first time that you try to use vmware.  Any help is greatly appreciate!

I just built a server around the Intel s5500hcvr mother. I have 6 SATA HDD I want to set up in a RAID. The integrated RAID controller seems to be very limited and does not seem to be supported by ESXi 4.1 (when I run ESXi 4.1 installation and it asks for a location for installation, all my discs are individually listed instead of virtual drives that I created with the RAID controller)

    My questions:

    (1) what is the suggested configuration of HDD (RAID levels / number of berries) for ESXi 4.1?  Can I create 1 RAID 10 array and set everything up to that?  or take one of my disks and install esxi 4.1 on it and then create a RAID with the rest of my discs and use it to store data?

    (2) anyone can provide links to some SATA RAID controllers that are known to work with ESXi 4.1 (and is the supposed to recognize virtual readers created by the RAID controller setup ESXi 4.1)

Your motherboard has a RAID controller software which, as you have discovered, is completely not taken in charge by ESX/ESXi... You will need to get a RAID controller that is on the HCL for SAS and SATA hard drives (not one with battery backup write cache) so you can use any type of RAID configuration.

My preference for Internal RAID configurations (on the host) are two drives mirrored for ESX/ESXi to reside (preferably being SAS 10 k or 15 k RPM, 73 GB or 146 GB in size) and then another table for the data store. You'll want to keep the data slot store table 2 TB-512 b size in order to present to ESX/ESXi as a LUN. Or you will need to get a RAID card this split of the support to the top of the table in the smaller of the virtual drives that can be presented for ESX/ESXi and LUNS.

Search for controllers using the LSI MegaRAID chip as a good first lap. Some Adaptec cards should work, but I've seen people post questions on those recent (more recent than in the past). MANY manufacturers rebrand/efficiency the LSI MegaRAID Controllers server, such as the Dell PERC 6 series cards.

For the use of 4 disks SATA, RAID 10 (on a BBWC, fully supported, controller) will give you the best performance. It will compare with SAS drives however. IF you do not plan on any virtual machine running with anything beyond light IOPS / s then you should be ok (or with very light loads)... If this is going to be a production server, then get the SAS drives all around.

I am absolutely amazed that there is no recovery password for iPhone backups encrypted.

  • What is normal for the backup of XP SP3 and the startup type of the removable storage service?

I was getting ready to plan and attempt a clean full backup for tonight.  I have the backups created on several entities, currently backup but have a very stable system at the moment and wanted to try to make a clean backup file.  That day has finally arrived after been forced a corrupted system files hard drive failure "repair" critical and forced me to go back to SP1a (my Windows Genuine valid CD which I highly appreciate) in order to obtain any boot system, including safe mode and console mode.  Repair has presented many incompatibilities at the level of program and system, including the basic WMI and COM of the corruption system.  Three months later... it of time to update my backups and recovery procedures and hope that this does not happen!

In preparation, I decided to refresh my memory on the use of the backup and by browsing the Help and Support Service Center files.  One of the first things I noticed was "storage removable service must be started for the backup works correctly."  Audit and inspection of my existing Services using computer (Local) management, I have observed that after a normal windows startup, the removable storage service is not started with manual startup type.  I use a USB drive connected as my backup media, and it is fully operational as a normally formatted NTFS data disk volume.  I have windows indexing disabled on this volume.  Is the type of service required removable storage of normal manual started?  The backup program will automatically start this service?  I know I've never manually started it myself and backups seem to work well.  Should we change the startup type to automatic?

    -Thanks, Jerry

I would like to leave as a textbook.

The Service will start (if capable) as soon as ntbackup.exe begins.

If you want to see, with your Services window related to the function of RS place and it will not work and the manual.

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

    Ntbackup.exe

Click OK to start the backup and the Restore Wizard.

Go back to your Services window and press F5 to refresh and SR Service should now work.

When you exit the backup and the Restore Wizard, the RS Service stops (it may take a few minutes), and you may need to close the Services applet and reopen it to notice she's moved to manual and not running.

You will see things like present to the event system log viewer:

    Event type: Information
    Event source: Service Control Manager
    Event category: no
    Event ID: 7036
The removable storage service entered the running state.

(this is when you go out the backup and the Restore Wizard and wait a few minutes... then the Service stops itself...)

    Event type: Information
    Event source: Service Control Manager
    Event category: no
    Event ID: 7036
    Description:
The removable storage service entered the stopped state.

It's like aid and assistance...  Most of the people (including the technical support engineers who are hired by Microsoft) say to set the Startup Type to automatic, but you don't have to...  Set it to manual and it will start fine when he needs start (if he can).

There is no need for these Services (and many other Services in XP) as starting at each restart and run all day without doing anything.

Here is a good list that will help you understand your XP Services:

    Thank you

    Ed P2

any card 32 GB will be less than 32GB after it is formatted to be used in a computer. It is a standard for all types of storage.

If you need 32 GB of actual useful storage space, you will have to get a 64 GB card.
