Ubuntu on Y550

Has anyone tried installing Ubuntu on a Y550?

I know that it's been done to others but I can't find everything concerning the Y550.

For others who have installed on their Y of the series, how is it? no problem with drivers?

Thank you

Yes, the volume buttons will work out of the box. The button mute is not light up, but works.

The camera has functioned well on Tinychat in chrome, I guess it's going to work very well elsewhere.

    As a bonus, this really seems up to the output of the speakers as well.

  • Ubuntu 15.04: firefox crashes, plugin-container using 90% CPU, 11 GB of RAM

    Once in a while (maybe once a week on average), Firefox crashes suddenly, and check the 'top' shows that the plugin-container uses 90% and more of CPU and RAM (I have 12 GB of RAM). So I kill firefox and when I restart, it works normally again.

    For extensions, I only LeechBlock (and changes of Ubuntu). For plugins I have Flash, Java, OpenH264 Video Codec and (apparently) iTunes application detector. Flash and Java are both updated.

    Because the problem somewhat rare occurrence, I was not able to reproduce, or to track down any kind of cause, but I thought he deserved the description anyway; a web search doesn't show anyone else reported the same problem.

    FredMcD not know if the OP was using Firefox on Windows and not on Linux as only your first link is applicable.

    The Flash Player and Java Plugins can be guilty. You must set them to "Ask to activate" so that they will work when you allow.

    I have a strong enough Linux system I find Flash Player setting to "Ask to activate" can still make a big difference as the Flash videos and ads will not play unless so authorized and I (i5 - 4690 k and 16 GB of Ram).

  • Java applets on "Allow and Remember" shows nothing (Ubuntu)

    I tried the Java 7 update to Java 8 because of the safety block Firefox did the plugin Java 7 - However, even after I deleted libnpjp2.so(as root) in order to update the plugin and make a new hard link to the 8 libnpjp2.soJava, he always tells me that I use a version of Java insercure and even if I click on 'Allow and Remember' or "Now allow" the Java applet shows me nothing but a White Plains region when the applet has been, (see attachments). I have not tried reinstall Java because I do not know how and I don't think it would help in this case. I also tried to use IcedTea to execute Java applets. My Java is installed but a PPP as appearently "default-jre" is updated. Java programs that are downloaded (e.g. Minecraft) still work. • xdg-open does not take into account the url and opens the different website when Firefox is the default browser in Ubuntu

    I am running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with Firefox version 38 for Ubuntu
    It is complected, and I tried to explain everything clearly.

    Today, I noticed a strange behavior.
    I have several URL saved as .desktop files.

    I use webupd8.org as example.
    The code for the exec in the desktop file is:
    Code:

    Exec=xdg-open http://www.webupd8.org/

    Today, I noticed that if I try to go to webupd8.org, or most of the other sites, by launching the .desktop file for this site, or by typing the url
    Code:

    http://www.WebUpd8.org/

    in the dashboard Firefox opens to a completely different site. The site that opens is a site that I set up for my children's grandparents to watch videos and see photos of the children. This Web site opens each time. I'm not be directed to a site at random each time. This is the case when I try to visit the webupd8.org OR one of several websites using .desktop file or enter the url you want in the dashboard. Whenever I went to my own domain.

    It happens that I have also several sites registered in a reminder in the Firefox icon in the Launcher sidebar thing in Ubuntu.
    In the case of the beast, the exec code is slightly different and it still responds as it should. In this case, I have:
    Code:

    Exec = firefox-new-tab http://www.webupd8.org/

    Also, if I change my default in opera browser, for example as .desktop files and entering the url directly in the dashboard work as it should.

    To recap:

    When Firefox is the default browser, enter a url in the dashboard or use a to surf to a desired site .desktop file causes my be redirected to my own domain name (which is hosted remotely and not on this computer).

    If, however, I change the Exec command in the .desktop file
    Code:

    Exec=xdg-open <url>

    TO
    Code:

    Exec = firefox-new-tab < url >

    the .desktop file will open Firefox and go to the desired site.

    If I change the browser by default Firefox to another browser, everything works as it should and has always so far. That is, with the Opera for example, both
    Code:

    Exec=xdg-open <url>

    and
    Code:

    Exec = firefox-new-tab < url >

    result in the browser by opening and going on the planned site. Typed a url in the dashboard is not a problem if the default browser is not Firefox.

    Anyone seen this before? If so, how to solve it?

    Thank you very much for your answers!
    I checked the url of the home page in Firefox and it has been set at startpage.com, but then when I looked at the default programs in Ubuntu, I noticed that the default program for the web had been unintentionally configured to use a .desktop file that leads to t he admin for my Web site login page.

    I changed this back to Firefox and the problem was solved.

  • Need help to move the Thunderbirds of Ubuntu to Windows e-mails

    I am moving from Ubuntu to Windows 10 and tries to bring my archives of e-mail with me.

    I copy the folder complete xldkjfdsklj.default (it's another cryptic name) and moves it to the Windows computer. Then I go into tools-> "Import" email in Thunderbird on Windows, but I can only choose to import Outlook files. How to import a file from Ubuntu Thunderbird in Windows.

    Appreciate any help/input

    You don't need to import anything. Just follow these instructions.
    http://KB.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder_-_Thunderbird#Create_a_new_profile_and_copy_the_old_one_over_it

    If you have already created a profile on the computer of Win10 that you can start with point 4.
    Note, a profile is created automatically, if there are no Thunderbird.

  • How can I copy the address book Thunderbird from Windows to Ubuntu?

    I use Windows on a Pc 8.1 and 14.04 Ubuntu on the other.

    Thanks in advance for your help

    Best regards

    EP

    I think the best way is to export address books needed of the LDIF files on the first machine and import the LDIF files on the second machine.

    Alternatively, you can copy the files from *.mab data from one machine to the other. Two default address books are represented by abook.mab and history.mab and can be simply copied. Other user-defined address books will be designated as abook1.mab etc. and will have to be imported. I'd say MoreColumnsForAddressBook for this task.

  • several profile on firefox 37.0.2 (ubuntu 64-bit)

    Hello
    I've upgraded my firefox to version of the end (36 to 37.0.2) in the previous version I can run 2 profiles at the same time, but after upgrading to 37.0.2, I can not run both profiles at the same time.
    When I run "firefox - P-no-remote &" during first time curve 2 in dialbox appear but when I run a profile if I am running the new command (the other profile is currently running) the dialbox is empty!
    I use firefox on ubuntu 64 - bit os.

    What Firefox Pei "ProfileName" (where profilename is the name of the profile)?

    I'm not able to reduplicate this question. But another possible solution is a switching profile add-on as the profilist extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/profilist/?src=api

  • Impossible to open folders in thunderbird or send messages not sent after that computer (ubuntu) closed all of a sudden while using the program

    I use ubuntu. The computer ran out of battery power and closed while I was using thunderbird. Restart thunderbird later, I found that I could not open folders or send unsent messages. When I close the program, I can't restart it says that thunderbird is already open, but if I use thunderbird killall-9 I tells me there is no thunderbird running process. I checked my profile and there is no lock file or parentlock. Someone suggested the deletion of the database of messages of global reach, but this did not help at all.

  • Network activity Firefox 33 is suddenly very slow on Ubuntu 14.04

    Background: I'm a software developer running Firefox on Ubuntu 14.04 33. I tried all the usual things to solve this problem, including:

    -safe mode
    -create a profile new and fresh
    -Disabling proxy http in settings
    -restart firefox and the computer
    -can use Chrome without problems, keeping the speed problems General network/internet

    Problem: I use Firefox as my default browser constantly. It was working fine yesterday during most of the day. However, when I came home at night and shot to the top of the computer, browsing the internet with Firefox was agonizing. I'm talking like 10-20 seconds to load pages that load almost instantly on Chrome on the same computer.

    I note that, sometimes, a page loads almost instantly as it should, but then this page and further assets page loads will return to take a long time.

    I realized that the problem was the DNS settings on my system. For some reason, my resolve.conf settings has not change when I joined my network home and contained two entries in server names that did not exist on the network. The third worked in resolve.conf name server. As soon as I removed the first two and left just the right name server, this problem has disappeared.
