Possible to use a USB stick as data store

I got an esxi 5 installed on a 8 GB USB key, but I want to use all the space on the left.

I just need to create a really tiny VM, optimized to work on flash.

Is not production

Anyone got a way?

Maybe...

Download a binary nfsd?

Download a binary of iscsi target?

Do some virtual data store?

Using the magical commands over ssh?

Help.

I really want to buy another sata controller + drive hard (there no so small that 8 GB hd now)

No.... I mean with normal USB virtualization introduced in vSphere 4.1

In vSphere 5 is fast enough to run a full USB 2.0 emulation.

    Hello

During the installation of Windows 7 or 8.1 using a USB stick - get the message "cannot be installed, it is a GPT partition.

I have 64 bit install discs for Win 7 and Win 8.1. These two install on my desktop in duel boot. I made a Flash DRIVE of each disk so I can install it more quickly.

Problem: I get the cannot install because it is a GPT partition.

    Thank you, Brad

Make sure you create your media recovery HP or USB Flash Recovery discs before you edit or change anything.

Your computer does not have Microsoft's Downgrade rights and you must buy a copy of Windows 7 with a valid Microsoft COA and product key.

The screenshots below is from a laptop HP 15 t-j100... options and the configuration on your computer screens may differ.

You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "Configuration of the BIOS start-up secure" on the settings page similar to what is shown below, until you try to install Windows 7.

After you save the changes, the computer will ask you to confirm the changes... Accept the changes by typing the four digit code and press the ENTER"" key.

If you install Windows 7 from a USB and see a message of "load a driver - a required CD/DVD drive device is missing", it's because as 'System Configuration' > 'Config USB3.0 in pre-start' is set to 'Enabled '. This should be set to 'Auto '.

In addition, as the factory hard drive is partitioned as TPG, you must start using the internal CD/DVD UEFI or UEFI-Key/key USB to install Windows on a GPT-partitioned disk. Turn on or restart the computer and press "F9" or "ESC", then "F9" when prompted. Select the source of boot UEFI you use and you press "ENTER".

I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best installation experience. If the DVD does not start as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (can ask "Quick start" DISABLING in BIOS) as the installation media. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid active UEFI USB Flash drive if it is formatted in NTFS and may require only a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installeror WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, because it contains options for 'Plan of GPT partition for UEFI computer' and 'FAT32'.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

  • Install an SSD in a Dell XPS 8300 using a USB stick recovery

My 1.5 as TB HARD drive crashed and I want to replace it with a 240 GB SSD.  I need to use a USB stick recovery to reinstall Win7 in my XPS8300.  I've heard that I need at least as big a player to use the recovery key.

I will be able to use the USB stick recovery to install Win7 on a 240 GB SSD?

I buy the Dell USB's recovery since I did not at the time I bought it in 2011.  So, I see that the 240 GB SSD will work.  Thank you.

It is not possible to use a USB key as a data store. You'd better add a NAS device to the network which supports to iSCSI or NFS. You can also look at eSATA although you won't get hot with ESXi plug opportunities.

  • OR PXI-8196 target using a USB stick formatting

    Hello everyone,

I use a PXI chassis with controller PXI-8196 and multiple PXI DAQmx cards. I need to format the hard drive on the target of PXI and reinstall the RT operating system as well as all other software. I am trying to restart the PXI with a USB bootable, but it gives me the option to format the hard drive.

Here are the steps I followed.

    1. I created the disk bootable with MAX using the RT disc utilities > create Desktop PC USB Drive Utility (PXI-8196 does not have a floppy drive so I have to use a USB key)

    2. I have connected a keyboard and screen to target to see it start.

    3. I've also adjusted the sequence of boot as the boot option "USB HDD: LEXAR JUMPDRIVE SPORT" among those available in the boot sequence has the highest priority. (My USB is a USB of LEXUS so I'm sure that this particular option must be the first in the sequence).

4 but once I start my system. It does not give me the option to format (according to MAX documentation should give me an option to "format hard drive"). Here's what I see on the screen connected to the target

= = The output to the screen is bounded by these two rails =.

Try this, go into the BIOS of the PXI, under LabVIEW RT to the startup configuration, change the Windows option / other OS. Then try what you are doing.

  • Hypervisor to USB instead of data store

Running vSphere 5.5 become 6.0 over the weekend. He is currently starting a data store that is local to the host, but is it possible move this to boot from USB or even a new installation on the USB port it will take?

You will need a new facility.

But you can do a profile host before reinstall, then install 5.5 to the usb port, apply the profile of the host and then finally switch to esxi 6.

At the time of lately, I started using dhcp for all my guests esxi making reconstruction or the easy deployment of new technologies.  You just need a dhcp reservation and entered dns front and rear.  ISCSI, motion v interfaces need not static entries.

  • Possible details extended query on the PowerCLI data store?

    Hello

Using the vSphere client, there is a way to view the properties of a data store (on the Configuration tab, storage) where it shows the measure information which includes information on the LUN UUID. Is it possible to display the same information in PowerCLI? Here's what I'm trying to do - given to a data store, I want to identify the storage device which is holding, using preferably something unique like the UUID. In the case of EMC devices at least, it contains the WWN of the device, so we can answer so far with the information of storage visible to the SAN. I walked in get-datastore objects. opinion of the GET, but none of them seem to expose this.

  • How to use NFS to create a data store on a server ESX 4.0?

    I have 2 questions.

    (1) ESX server 4.0 cannot be installed in 64 bit cpu?

    (2) when I create a new storage, the use of the NFS (Network File System)? Because the error message: "" error during the configuration of the host: Please make sure that you have configured the network for VMkernerl ""

Use an IP address on the same network of your NFS server.

Then go to storage and add new NFS data store.

Don't forget that you will need to a NFS with NFSv3 access TCP server and the root.

  • Make Ubuntu 14.04 to Windows 7 using a USB stick bootable Windows 7

I use Ubuntu 14.04 on an i5 Envy of HP Touchsmart, however, I want to upgrade to Windows 7.

I have a bootable windows disc 7. I changed in the BIOS boot sequence, so it runs first of usb, but unfortunately it is able to pass on the Ubuntu operating system. I also tried openinig the executable installer using 'wine' of usb and I get this error after clicking on "install Windows 7":

    Error:

"Windows is unable to find a place to store temporary installation files. To install windows, make sure that a partition on your boot disk has at least 699 MB of free space.  "Error code: 0 x 80070490.

I have over 200GB of disk space. I think I may have to use "gparted partition editor" but I'm not familiar with it either.

Use your Ubuntu installation media to format and delete all partitions including the partition of Grub.

May I ask how you created your bootable Windows 7 USB copy? It is possible, that it might not be bootable. I suggest that you make sure you follow the instructions below to create a bootable copy below:

After graduating the .iso file, you can use the built-in Image disc burning tool or Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool to create a bootable DVD or USB (requires a blank DVD or USB flash to at least 4 GB key).

After downloading the. ISO file, right click and click burn disc image

    Insert a blank DVD

    Click on burn

Windows 8/8.1 users can mount the. ISO file and start the upgrade automatically. More here

    Important:

If you create a USB startup key, make sure the USB is first in the FAT32 format.

    Connect the USB

    Open Computer

Click with the right button on USB

    Click on Format

Make sure that FAT32 is selected as the file system.

    For UEFI systems based

If your computer is UEFI, they are normally the systems that come pre-loaded with Windows 8 or later, you need prepare the ISO for such a configuration file or you will receive an error during installation. The USB key must be formatted in FAT32 and use the GPT partitioning scheme. To do this, you must use Rufus, a small tool that you can download for free.

    Rufus - credit: Pete bastard/Akeo

    After installing Rufus:

    • Launch it
    • Select the ISO Image
    • Point to the file ISO for Windows 10
    • Check create a disk bootable using
    • Select GPT partitioning to EUFI firmware as the Partition scheme
    • Choose FAT32 NOT NTFS as file system
    • Make sure that your USB in the device list
    • Click Start
    • Close when you are finished

Try to start it again, make sure that you select and remove each partition, select it the disk partition not allocated, click New and then select the larger of the main partition and then click next to install.

  • Is it possible to use the USB device as an audio output on Satellite Pro?

I have a satellite laptop computer pro that is used as the center of entertainment in my room before, i.e. ripped music is played through my stereo, it's my player to dvd etc..

My problem is the following - the only link of notebook with stereo I know and am currently using is a 3.5 mm jack adaptor phono twins connected at the front of the laptop and then phono leads stereo auxiliary input adapter. It works pretty well but I noticed that when you listen to songs more calm music, there is a lot of background noise, almost as if the internal working of the laptop sounds are picked up through the headphone jack.

Y at - it another way to make a portable hi-fi audio output via usb for example, thus obtaining a more pure sound. My hi-fi entry is phono of twins.

I'd appreciate any help on this topic. Thank you

    Hello

There are two useful links providing you a USB audio device to record sounds and to connect other audio devices.
I put t know what laptop, you have exactly, but it should support a S/PDIF (same headphone jack) port.
Here, you can connect the S/PDIF audio cable and can connect the HFI for notebook computer in digital mode.
