Power Mac - problem to empty the trash
Hello
I'm running a 550GB external hard drive for my Time Machine. I just got a message saying that Time Machine (TM) backup impossible because there is not enough space left on the hard drive.
First of all, I have even if it is set automatically delete the oldest file first to make the space whenever that happened, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So, I went TM manually and selected older backups from 2 months and put them in the trash.
First of all, it always takes to 'Prepare the files for deletion' and then when it begins finally to "trash" files it takes forever and then gives the soul! There are something like 900,000 files empty, but I'm just sitting here watching each file delete one by one and then it freezes and just stops!
Any suggestions on how I can overcome this please?
Thank you very much

Can't empty the trash due to a file with the filename of garbage

Check SystemPreferences-> users & groups-> LoginItems, to see if there is something that has to do with this file, if so, remove it with the sign, if not, the next step:
Restart the mac and then empty the trash.

No room left even if I delete songs - using Mac, empty the trash
I use my Sansa Clip to listen to audio books only. Lately even if I delete the books there is a msg saying no left when I try to add more space. I'm emptying the trash on my Mac that I use to manage files Sansa. Memory says 3750 used, 22Mo left, no matter how I delete! Help?
Is that what you're emptying the trash of Mac with the connected Sansa?
Have you always used a Mac? If you also use the Sansa with a Windows computer, then it may have been connected in MTP, which is invisible to the Mac mode. You must connect to a Windows computer and delete the files from there.
Then go to settings system/settings/USB Mode and make MSC.
If you just want to start over, you can go to Settings/System Settings/Format and use it. It will remove everything you put on the Sansa.

There is nothing showing in the trash when I click on explore but when I put in the cell some files I didn't, but there was still nothing showin in the tray. I checked the properties to make sure that the parameter was not set to remove permentally, which was set to normal of any idea

Why my mac is very slow to empty the trash?
I'm trying to fix an external hard drive, leaving all the files and the re-formatting it. However when I tried to trash the files after repair, it's delete files at a rate of one every 3-5 seconds. There are more than 1 million files to remove. How can I speed things up?
Please relaunch the Finder, and then on the Finder menu bar, select
▹ Finder Preferences... ▹ Advanced
and uncheck the box marked
Empty the trash safely
If it is checked. You will only have this box if you are using OS X 10.10 or more. Try to empty the trash again.

Firefox saves your bookmarks to your folder 'Profile' which is located at:
Your home folder > library > Application Support > Firefox > profiles.
Please check if this folder is always present. If so, then copy it somewhere safe.
Then, reinstall Firefox and restore your bookmarks.

I have a Version of El Capitan OSX 5 years 10.11.3, processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5computer. It is slow and jerky. Any suggestions? I empty the trash. I have an external backup.
Update your software OS X v10.11.4.
Instructions here > How to upgrade OS X
If after the update is installed, you see always the same slow and jerky behavior, a Safe Mode boot removes the system caches that can help.
Upper left corner of your screen, click on the Apple > Shut Down.
After your Mac stops, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key. You must press the SHIFT key as soon as possible once you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the SHIFT key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Mode without failure, return to the menu Apple . In the drop-down list, click: reboot
On Safe Mode

Failure to empty the trash...!
I trashed my disk backup files hard Time Machine backup.
I think it has to do with the problem.
I am unable to empty the trash.
Receive an "error code - 50".
I tried all the steps suggested here on this forum (Terminal, Trash, etc.), does not.
I'm desperate!
Someone from Apple can tell me what is the ULTIMATE solution to empty my trash...?
Will be well appreciated.
Thank you.
Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)
My ultimate solution:
-Bought the app "Carbon Copy clone". ;
-Copied my entire "boot disk (Macintosh HD 1)' on an external HDD (Ext Mac);
-Using "Disk utility", cleared and mounted my "Startup disk (Macintosh HD 1).
-Launched "(Mac Ext) as my boot drive: Trash was... EMPTY!"
-Help "Carbon Copy Cloner", copied "Ext Mac" on "Macintosh HD 1";
-Launch 'Macintosh HD 1' as my 'startup disk': Trash was... EMPTY!
Useful tips:
1 / never, never trash the files/folders from your backup of "Time Machine" in the trash...
2 / download the app "Carbon Copy Cloner", it's only $39.99 (€36.00)...

After selecting and dragging some photos of Photo on the desk I have their attached to an e-mail and sent them to the coast. Then I selected the 5 photos on the desktop and put them in the trash. When I tried to empty the trash later I received the following message: the operation cannot be completed because the item "IMG_0645.jpg" is in use.
Aren't these photos on the desktop 'copies' of the originals in the Photo?
All wise users out there with an answer?

Restart your computer in safe mode

Suddenly, I have only the possibility of good to empty the trash.
I went to empty the trash yesterday and the only option was assured. I thought it was weird and clicked. After a few hours, the computer was still churning away. He left overnight and it was still churning away. I need to ensure empty. I would delete it and come back to life as usual. However, I can't find any way to go back to normal from the trash dump.
Fixed it myself. I forgot to do what I always tell those who ask me for help: use the Mac Help. Answer: in the Finder under Advanced preferences is a check box for safe dumping trash or vice versa. I don't know how this got checked, since I've never used this feature, but there you go.

Error 50 while emptying the trash
I can't empty the trash error 50. It seems that the number of documents and folders contains a character "null" at the end of their names.
Yes, null files. You use Windows at all? If so, you can delete them in Windows. Otherwise, it is best to leave them alone. There they interfere with the normal functions of your Mac, erase and reinstall OS X using Internet for recovery.
