    ---------------UPDATE-------------

the current RAID is RAID 0 and I found that a backup windows (from previous system admin) file so it is possible to format the two HDD, configure RAID for RAID 1, install windows, and then restore the backup?

also, I was reading this article " " but I couldn't change the RAID, so any suggestion?

You need drivers ("hard drive" version, run to extract before use):

  • Cannot add ESX/PowerEdge 2950 hard drive

Hello..  I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with a Perc6 / i.  I am currently under VMWare ESX 3.5i using RAID 5.  I added another drive and try to add that, for VMWare.  Looking at the sensors, the UNCONFIGURED GOOD watch drive.  When I try to add through VIC using storage - & gt; Add storage, the disk is not there.  I looked everywhere to try to add this drive but its got the best of me.  What I am doing wrong?

Ideally, I would like to add to the RAID 5 array, but from what I've read is not possible.  Suffice to just be able to add the period dang by car.

    Help!

The boot server and press Ctrl + R and go to group configuration, look at the table manager and add the new virtual disk. Don't try to split the table 5 in place or you may lose your data.

  • Dell PowerEdge 2950 Backplane - error message: SAS B missing cable. Misconfigured?

We have a bunch of Dell PowerEdge 2950 s, they came with a built-in SAS Perc5i RAID controller.

Unfortunately the Perc5i is a kind of fake raid 10 (a span of mirrors) rather than a bunch of mirrors so we had to get some raid cards appropriate instead.

So now the perc5i on board is disconnected from the bottom of basket and disabled in bios, and we have our new raid card installed and connected to the bottom of basket - all is well and they work well.

However when the machines bios startup stops and we get an error message saying the following:

    «SAS B cable missing /.» Misconfigured.

Turn the system power off and connected properly. Details for the wiring of storage system information label and manual Ownders hardware.

Press F1 to continue, F2 to run the configuration utility.

How can we stop this message? This is obviously completely false; our new SAS cards are connected to the bottom of the basket and works very well. I don't see anywhere to disable this message in the bios or the 5 BMC Management utility.

    BIOS version is 2.2.6 (last)

    BMC firmware is 1.97 (last)

    Backplane firmware is 1.05 (last)

    Help, please!

  • PowerEdge 2950 - order replacement HARD drive

We recently replaced among 300 GB three SAS hard drives in a PowerEdge 2950, after seeing 1810 Code error 1 HARD disk fault.  We would like to order replacement disks to have on hand, but must be sure that we order is fully compatible.  The reader, we have removed is Seagate ST3300656SS with Firmware HS09 and certified as a disk HARD of Dell Enterprose class.  I understand that just order a Seagate drive of the same model number is not enough.  How can we be sure we are ordering the right items?

  • Secure Hard Drive wipe for Poweredge 2950

Hello, I recently got a hold of a Dell Poweredge 2950 but until I can do something with it. I need to clear safe hard drives with killdisk (or something similar that will provide newspapers) and I have problems with what I believe, it is the raid controller. I followed these instructions

    http://sysadmin-e.com/securely-wiping-hard-disk-drives-on-Dell-PowerEdge-servers-with-BartPE-and-kill-disk

and came very close, but it did not work. I have when I get on the use of killdisk for windows, I am able to see the virtual drives all named with the perc 5 / i but later I receive errors when trying to erase the drives. I'm starting to think that it is not possible at this point, the Active Server, but I wanted to see if anyone had experience with this or advice and assistance. Thank you.

Why do you need to erase the discs on the receiving server safe?  It is usually the responsibility (desire and political) of an organization, before getting rid of a system/disk.

Are these SAS or SATA drives?  You could attach them to a JBOD controller (PERC 5 support NOT of JBOD/no RAID), and then do the wipe directly to disk without the need to manage virtual disks on the controller.

  • Replace a HARD drive in RAID 1 PowerEdge 2950, question on the process

Having never had to replace a HARD drive in a RAID 1 configuration on a PowerEdge 2950 Server (PERC 5 / i).

Can I do put in custody or from a cold start?

I replaced the HDD failure with the new HARD drive with the same part number.

This is my boot volume, so I don't want to spoil...

If the data is critical, and you don't have a backup, get one now.

NEVER stop a server to introduce a disk. If the reader poster pred fail, force the drive offline first, then remove it. If it is already broken, then just pull it off.

  • HARD disk for maximum support PowerEdge 2950

    Greetings,

I have server PowerEdge 2950 with Six internal hard drive bays. How many maximum capacity of hard drive taken in charge in one Bay?

Thanks for the reply and best regards.

If you use a PERC 5/6, 2 TB is the maximum size of physical disks - this is a hardware limitation, and there is no way to use anything larger than 2 TB.

If you use a SAS 5/6 in RAID mode, 2 TB is the maximum - it is a limitation of its limitation of RAID. I would never do that, but some said that grows to 2 TB will work on the SAS 5/6 in NON RAID (left unconfigured) mode.

  • II of the PowerEdge 2950 not allowing for space HARD to be accessible

    Nice day

I have an old server PowerEdge 2950 II (card: 2x3.0 Ghz Xeon, 24 MB Mem 1 TB SATA HDD, 1 Tb SATA HDD, 2 TB SATA HDD - Server data center in 2012).

The question I have is that I recently updated the operating system from 2008 to 2012 DC, then installed an extra drive (2 TB).  I run RAID 0, and the system is only show a MAXIMUM of space disk HARD 1.98 TB, with the other Tb 0.02 table allocated to file systems.  RAID Perc 5i controller has all the three marked as online HARD drives.  BUT I can not use the additional 2 tablespoons in the table.  I was going to buy and install a 2nd HARD drive of 2 to SATA and RAID 1 go; but, if I can't fix this storage space not represented in the storage Bay I can't justify the purchase.  If anyone can help I would be grateful.

So, you have three disks - 1 TB, 1 TB, 2 TB - during a RAID 0, and you expect to see 4 TB of space?  If so, see my notes above.  Each virtual disk (RAID array) is presented to the operating system as a separate 'disc'.  Windows cannot use a more 2 TB drive unless it has been converted to GPT.  First of all, the conversion to TPG is data destructive, so you will need to do a backup/restore.  Secondly, convert your boot 'disc' TPG will not cause it to start on a 2950 because it only supports UEFI, which is necessary to start from a GPT disk.

Bottom line?  You need to rethink your configuration on this machine.  You could make two 1 TB disks in a 1 TB RAID 1 for the OS (in MBR and bootable on a 2950), and then you could add 2 TB RAID 1 for data disks.  2 TB, it would be unnecessary to convert to GPT, but if you have added more than 2 TB of space, you would then convert that TPG and use as many TB for the data that you can hold in the system.

In addition, you realize how dangerous running a RAID 0 is, right?

  • ESXi 3.5 on Dell Poweredge 2950 and Dell 6 GB/s card SAS HBA?

    Hello.

    I'm under ESXi 3.5 u4 on a Dell poweredge 2950 machine.

    I recently bought a Dell Powervault 124 t. autoloader with a HBA SAS 6 GB/s card.

I installed the card SAS in the PE 2950, but now I can't seem to see in ESXi.

Can someone help me with this?

    Thank you very much.

I'm afraid that the Dell technician is correct.

Someone at - it a link on ESX support not directly connected devices?

This isn't the issue. The question is: do you have a link that shows devices supported?

Reference Dell does support the autoloader Powervault 124 t. on ESXi 3.5?

Have you checked the VMware HCL already, if the SAS controller is included/supported for ESXi version, you are running?

There are a few articles which have tape readers running with Adaptec SCSI controllers, I don't see anything for ESXi 3.5 with a SAS controller still...

Maybe there's a better chance to make this work with ESX 4.x with VMDirectPath

  • PowerEdge 2950 HDD Predictive Failure

    Hi Experts

We have PowerEdge 2950 with 5 RAID PERC 6 / i integrated. It has 3 hard drives SAS and is to show the Predictive Failure HARD drive for two SAS drives and each HARD drive is 400 GB. The same size disk is not available now and the seller asks us to use 450 GB HARD drive. Is it possible or we should insist on getting 400 GB SAS HARD drive?

    Concerning

It will work, but there are some risks involved.  Here is a good post on spiceworks where few people are talking about possible problems.

No, fiber channel disks will NOT work. Of business or you SATA drives need to SAS.

  • PowerEdge 2950-second map PERC to connect to PowerVault 220 s

    Hello

I have a PowerEdge 2950 unit (Service Tag # NOTE from the ADMIN: maintain the label removed by privacy policy >) and PowerVault 220 s unit (Service Tag # NOTE from the ADMIN: maintain the label removed by privacy policy >).
I would like to know is possible to connect this PowerVault 220 s 2950? I'm going to put this 2950 Windows Server 2012.

Initially, this PE2950 came not with additional PERC card. If I want to add in the additional PERC card to connect to PV220s, it is possible to do?

    Hello, jindrax.

So, I'm not saying it's impossible, but it will get difficult. The PV220s works with a PERC 3 or PERC, which is NOT validated on the PE2950 4. The PE2950 is all the time, we started to switch to SAS, if I remember correctly. So it will be difficult at best to find a card to connect the PV220s.

Aside from that, using the PV220s with Windows 2012 isn't a good idea either. While windows may have a driver randomly for him, it will not match the firmware and will act "funky" to say the least.

In this case, honestly you'd be best suited for a large USB drive (4to) and be in a much better position to try to mesh the old technology of today.

You cannot mix SAS and SATA drives in a RAID array.
