PowerEdge R910 4x16GB question

I have PowerEdge R910 with two mem 4x4GB modules and Assembly of memory cards.

I tried to replace 4x4GB with modules of memory 4x16GB (16 GB 1333 MHz reg. ECC low voltage Module) and during the shutdown of the POST system with message

NO CONFIGURABLE MEMORY DETECTED

SYSTEM ORDER

BIOS is updated on the latest revision.

Y at - it an explanation?

4x16GB is supported on the R910 Server?

Dragan

Dragank,

The question will be compatibility. E7540 processors based on the Nehalem micro architecture, which does not support the use of DIMMs with 4 GB of DRAM. The 16 GB 1333 MHz ECC CL9, dimm 2RX4 has 4 GB of DRAM on them.

    Hi all

How can I check the version of RAID controller and the Drac version of linux? I'm looking to upgrade both.

    Thank you!

    Jbonpland,

The best way to see both devices information would be to install OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) on the system, if it is impossible, the only way to get information from the Drac use IPMI tool and with the Raid Controller you will need to use something like MegaCLI.

If you prefer to use OMSA download here - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/index/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C8V9M&fileId=3291475553&osCode=RH60&productCode=poweredge-r910&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SM

  • Question of memory poweredge R910

    Hi Guy,

We want to add more memories of our Power edge 910 (from 2010), but do not know what memory should buy us,

Currently server has 64GB, 16 X 4 GB memory Quad rank (I said Quad becuse the)

said Bill 64 GB memory 16X4Go Quad RDIMMS 2 memory risers)

but on the site of our service number shows this:

    DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 4G, 1066, 4RX8X72, H959F, BIC

    and has 2 CPU

    PROCESSOR, E7530, 1.86/5.8, 12M, XMD, D0

We want to add 64 GB memory to this server.

On the site of Dell, we see the only module of 32 GB which is four rows, can buy 2 of these module and add it to the server? or we can not mix the 32 GB Quad with quad 4GB?

    Thank you

"It is recommended that more big DIMMs to be installed everything first, IE on the slots with white sleeves."

This is information demographic General memory. However, we noticed that your 16 GB DIMM using 4GB DRAM, which is not supported by the processor Nehalem E7530 base. When used, the system will not SHOW that you have observed. Therefore, you can't use these new modules of memory of 16 GB at all because the doe processor does not support.

  • PowerEdge t110 ii question: map graphic and HARD drive

    Hello

I recently bought a t110 ii with the Xeon E3-1230v2. I bought it for self-study and use as a work/homelab station server. (I got for a price lower than any offer of work/Office equaluivalent position).

I searched on google for answers and couldn't find the messages dating back to 2012-2013.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with compatible graphics cards that were released this year or last year.

I understand that the PCIe connector can support up to 8 x power 25w (as read on other discussions).
Is there a graphics cards of current generation that I could use.

I'm not planning to use this for the games, the main use will be for virtualization and use it as a workstation from time to time.

Then regarding politics HDD/RAM and the Dell warranty,.

I was using my own disk sata hard and the possible upgrading ram later down the line. Open the chassis for upgrades or install third-party components will void warranty of the machine even if these elements were the reason for the failure.

I would have purchased from Dell, but unfortunately cannot me like my student budget.

    SR2002,

As Dell does not recommend 3 party graphics cards, the T110II supports it. Given that we do not recommend the use of them, we are actively testing the different manufacturers. Now, I met a former postwhere, they say, they used a NVIDIA GeForce G210 512 MB DDR2 PCI Express video card in the T110 II and it worked.

To answer your next question, add and upgrade parts to the server will NOT void your warranty, but added devices that has been obtained through Dell will not be covered by the warranty.

  • Windows Server 2012 HyperVisor_Error bugcheck 0 x 00020001 PE R910

In case someone else runs into this problem.  I recently met a bugcheck HyperVisor_Error 0 x 00020001 on a server PowerEdge R910 after installation of Windows Server 2012 DataCenter Edition, enabling the Hyper-V role and implementation of VMs.  The server would always restart.  I contacted Dell support and ran the full range of update all the firmware / bios / drivers, ran a material 3 days test without result.  I finally opened a support ticket with Microsoft.  They had a similar case that was solved by certain changes in bios Setup.  They gave me a list of the changes and I reduced to a configuration option.

The culprit in my case was the parameter memory BIOS - enable the nodes.  After disabling this setting, the server seems to be stable.

Just wanted to post in case anyone else has this problem and save some time/effort.  Try to adjust this and see if it solves your problem.

  • VSphere licensing issues

The license is very clear on the vmware Web site.  Could someone tell me what the TOTAL licensing costs would be to run a hypervisor on a machine with the following configuration:

Dell PowerEdge R910 4U rack server

Four Intel Xeon X 7560 eight 2.26 GHz processor
    256 GB of RAM - 4 x 800 GB SSD SATA - PERC H700, Dell iDRAC6 Express, four PSU

By using the Vsphere client to manage.

So, what would be the ADDITIONAL cost if we added another server, just like it?

    Thank you!

    Hello

vSphere is licensed per socket. So for your server, you will need to purchase licenses vSphere 4.

price depends on the edition you purchase (standard, enterprise, enterprise +)

You will also need to pay the annual subscription fee in order to open calls to technical support and get the major updates to the new vSphere (as from 5.X to 6.X) versions.

Each additional server must be licensed in the same way, by socket.

Also for managing more of a server and make use all of the cool features of vSphere, you need to allow a vCenter server, which is licensed by installation.

  • Disk management issue

    Hello

We have a new poweredge R910, my colleague has set up 2 RAIDs on this server a RAID 5 with 4 disks and a RAID 1 with 2 discs. Today, I check the disk management and see something strange, I can see that RAID 5 showing a disk 0 (which will be used for data) and the projection of RAID 1 as disc 1 (only BONES top), RAID 1 should not be disk 0? or is not all effect? Personally, I think the RAID 1, which has the operating system should show as disk 0 in Disk Manager.

No idea if this configuration is correct or not?

    Mrshahin,

The reason why you see it in this order is due to the order that they were created, so when the system has been configured the Raid 5 is probably configured everything first. When the operating system was installed the second table created has been selected for the operating system. Therefore, give the impression that they are back. Functionally, there is no problem, other than the appearance, so it will not create an instability or problems.

Let me know if it helps.

  • Question of 2012 R2 install Poweredge R415

I have my SAS drives in a RAID 5 (PERC S300, Poweredge R415) matrix and also appear online. When I go through the lifecycle to deploy Server R2 2012 he does not see the drive to install the operating system to. I tried to load the driver retrieved through the USB port, but it happens to say that there is no available signed drvier. Can you tell me to fix the driver should I use?

    Rah33,

Unfortunately the S100 and S300 raid controllers do not have support for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and there is currently no plan to support these controllers with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 in the future. If you use the S300 controllers, you must either get the controller hardware raid (h700), or you would need to follow this procedure to continue.

    • Open the server and remove cables internal SATA connected to the S300 controller and connect it to the embedded SATA controller of the server ports.
    • Power on the server and press F2 to enter the BIOS settings.
    • Enter the--> SATA settings BIOS setup and change it to ATA or ACHI mode depending on what is available. See Figure-1.
    • Save and exit the installation program.
    • Boot from the DVD Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and proceed with the installation
    • You can learn more about this here.

I hope this helps to answer your question, even though this is probably not the answer you wanted to hear.

  • PowerEdge R720 virtual disk question

Hi, our company has bought a Dell PowerEdge R720. I tried to use the lifecycle controller in RAID configuration. At the start, it has 3 500 GB SAS HARD drive, but I ordered 2 x 320 GB additional SAS being what I intend to do it, use the 2 x 320 GB like OS install as RAID 1 and RAID 5 on the default 3 x 500 GB, but for some reason any, whenever I have configure RAID , either on the two 320 or 3 x 500 GB, it shows just a virtual disk, 2 x 320 GB or 500 GB x 3, I see not two for RAID 1 and RAID 5 virtual disks. Am I missing something here? or I have to perform an extra step?

    Kind regards

    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,.

If you try to install the operating system through the lifecycle controller method. You must have the latest lifecycle controller OS driver pack installed in your system. For the latest driver pack OS, please download from our support http://support.dell.com/ site by entering you service number and download OS Driver pack drivers.

You can update the OS driver pack thorugh iDRAC GUI or through the lifecycle controller GUI and once after the OS driver pack update. When you try to deploy the operating system through the life cycle of the controller, you will appear on the list of supported operating systems and you can select the operating system you want to install by mounting the image operating system or DVD media connected to the system.

Please let me know if you have any question.

    Thanks, Neeraj

  • PowerEdge T110 II/PERC H200 drive Expansion Question

We have a server PowerEdge T110-11 with two 600 GB 15K SCSI disks in a RAID 1 configuration via a PERC H200 controller.  This server is used in a production environment.  We want to add an extra internal drive on the server, but the readers (or reader) not be used for archival purposes.  Check-in will be only done periodically at defined intervals.  The plan of production a need for speed and redundancy of the RAID/SCSI setting.  The drive to check-in will not.  I don't know what is supported by the PERC H200 beyond two units SCSI that we have.  How would you recommend that we do that?  Should we buy two SATA drives and use them in a RAID 1 configuration as we have for SCSI drives?  All readers are saved on a Dell RD1000 disk cartridge system, in a way.  I don't know if we need RAID for this disk to archive, because it will be backed up regularly.  Others grow here to use an external USB drive for archiving, due to their very low cost.

Thanks for your suggestions, you can offer.

    Hello.

Support-T110 II up to 6 hard drives. It wouldn't hurt to implement these drives in RAID 1 or RAID 5 (for more than 2 disks) configuration just in case of failure before the archive is saved. If your archive is not so important, you can set the drives in RAID 0.

  • Disc question PowerEdge T300 Perc 6 / I Raid 5

I have a PowerEdge T300 with Perc 6 / I and Raid 5 with 3 hot swap 15 k 146 GB disks and 1 hot spare in the fourth slot from the backplane. Drive HARD 0 is orange flashing while HDD1 thru HDD3 are green. I have a new hard drive to install. I have to restart under the Perc 6 / I installation, disable HDD0, then turn the power off and replace it and walk back in Perc 6 / I and add the new disk and restart. Drive HARD 0 rebuild in the table or what I need to assign the new drive as the new hot spare? Are there instructions on how to replace a drive like that?

    Thank you

    Mark

Once in the controller and you can just physically pull the failed drive. After removing, then wait a moment and insert the new drive. If the virtual disk has been degraded, then it should start to rebuild on its own once the replacement is inserted. If the virtual disk has been Optimal, then physically pull the drive and insert the replacement. Then in the BIOS OF THE controller, you can configure the replacement as a hot spare.

  • Replace a HARD drive in RAID 1 PowerEdge 2950, question on the process

Having never had to replace a HARD drive in a RAID 1 configuration on a PowerEdge 2950 Server (PERC 5 / i).

Can I do put in custody or from a cold start?

I replaced the HDD failure with the new HARD drive with the same part number.

This is my boot volume, so I don't want to spoil...

    THX

If the data is critical, and you don't have a backup, get one now.

NEVER stop a server to introduce a disk. If the reader poster pred fail, force the drive offline first, then remove it. If it is already broken, then just pull it off.

  • A strange question - Poweredge T20 and Windows 7/8?

I am a user of Dell since the beginning with the stand alone units but have never had a server up to date unit. I bought the T20 on an experimental basis, and my first task is to install an operating system as the T20 does not come with a sold in Sweden.

As is a rookie I thought, possible to install Windows 7 or 8 on T20 instead of a VERY expensive Windows Server 2012? I have unused licenses for and thought, this could be the opportunity to use? I only have basic needs and will be the only one to use the T20. It should be used as a regular server would be at least that's what I thought :-).

If it is possible, what can do or not do with T20? What is limitations? What I should add for some and I can add equipment?

Would appreciate an answer or continue with a link that might take me.

    What about Nils

Like I said, Server 2012 Essentials sells for between $300-400-less than half the price of the standard, but I understand your reluctance to pay more for your operating system that you did the material, but I guess my question is then why not just buy a desktop PC - which can run Windows 7/8 without fault and run circles around your old Dimension - for about the same price?

I understand the adventure and challenge in a 'project' as this - I do-, but just know that this server does not have the capabilities of 'PC' you are used in ordinary computer models.  Graphic design, power and scalability will be very limited, so the user experience of Windows will probably not much higher than your Dimension.  If you are looking for in the forums, you will find people have encountered problems with feeding small when trying to update and upgrade of power supply and memory.

Now that you have it, try it.  Tell us where you are stuck - maybe we can help you.
