  Dear all,

  I recently put a server DELL T320 with 64 GB of RAM, I want to add additional memory and would like to know is this server supports 32 GB memory cards. There are now two empty slots in the server and I want to add Two 32 GB cards in them.

  Yes, the server supports 32 GB memory modules. However, due to the restrictions imposed by the population memory guidelines requiring that balanced memory channels, will need you 3 modules 32 GB and 16 GB 3 modules such as:

  A1, A2, AND A3: 32GB

  A4, A5 & A6: 16GB

  Here's the 32GB module part number: SKU # A7916527 & Mfg # SNPF1G9D / 32G. Make sure that your BIOS is up to date.

  We have a Dell PowerEdge T320 with following Perc

  Currently, the server has two drives of 1 TB on a RAID 1 virtual disk. I want to add more than 4 drives (2 TB) and create a RAID 5 with 3 disks and leave one as a spare drive. So my questions are:

  1. do I need to disable the server in order to add new readers? -the server has access area Bay front for Perc connections, which are the SATA drives.

  2. what would be the appropriate steps to set up the RAID. Can I make using Dell Open manage?

  3. do you know if the 2 TB drive, I want to use as a hot spare works also for the 1 TB RAID 1 drives?

  1. you should NOT turn off to add or replace the hot-swappable drives. Leave it on.

  2. Yes, use OpenManage... Select Reconfigure in the drop-down list of tasks available for RAID 1.

  3. Yes, the reader may be bigger, but not smaller. All larger than the other Member disks space will be wasted space. Then, you'll go from a 1 to a 4 TB RAID 5 RAID 1. Half of all your drives of 2 TB will be wasted.

  Another thing, you need to know is that if Windows is ALREADY installed with UEFI enabled (as opposed to the BIOS), then you can not use more than 2 TB. Windows cannot use a greater than 2 TB drive unless it's TPG, and Windows cannot start a GPT disk except if installed on UEFI system activated. Conversion to GPT is destructive, so it cannot be changed without reinstalling.

  My advice would be to set up your 4x2TB in a 4 TB RAID 6 disks - RAID 6 is a better use of a 'rescue' as a backup pending. RAID 10 would also be acceptable.

  I am installing a SAS LTO4 tape drive in a Dell PowerEdge T320 Tower Server.  I have the tape drive and the controller/HBA H310 SAS for the connection to the drive but I can't find the right cable for the H310 training. #

  I'll use P/N: 606JD, which is listed on the TBU for T610/T710 cable but don't know if it's the cable for this unit.

  Any help would be massively appreciated.

• Classified into CPU upgrade PowerEdge T320 - I was wondering if I need thermal paste for the heatsink that came with it

  Subject pretty much said it all.

  We received a CPU upgrade for our PowerEdge T320. The new processor comes with a new heat sink, and it seems that there is a thermal buffer of paste on the lower part of the radiator.

  I wonder if anyone knows if I need to or recommend that I put the extra thermal paste on the chip before mounting the radiator.

  The quantity of thermal paste comes with your CPU should be enough for the CPU holding it in place.

• Dell PowerEdge T320 PERC H710P Upgrade

  Dear support, I have a Dell PowerEdge T320 server that was purchased with a software RAID controller in S100.  I just bought a PERC H710P controller and hoped to help on the installation.  Do I need anything else to install the card as a set of cables?  I have a 8 x 3.5 "hot swappable backplane already installed with a pair of cables SAS that connect to the motherboard.  What else do I need to do this work?  I'm also not sure where the PERC H710P controller must be installed?  I can't find pictures or drawings on the Internet.

  You should also order the cable (part # DJXF7) as well. This is the cable that connects the 710 in the bottom of the basket 8 x 3.5. Look at the picture below and let me know if those are the cables you already have.

  It stands for chipset. Some of the pci-e lanes are run by the CPU, and some are on the system board.

  Anything is possible, but ranging from cable at the bottom of the basket on the T320 would not be taken in charge or simple.

  You would need more of a bottom of basket. You must also different cables, and you need some parts that we do not sell. Depending on which controller you have you can have a different controller if you want to use more than 4 slots on the backplane from the controller chipset only supports a maximum of 4 hard drives.

  The backplane and cable configurations use different chassis. We do not sell the chassis. You need to change your current chassis to create disks for HDDs bays. The enclosure which use wired readers couldn't be used for pluggable hard drives hot.

  Outside the group that you listed, the only one that looks like it might be compatible would be the Hynix. More glancing DIMMS for the R510, there is a bar shared memory, but it's a 2GB. I don't see any other compatible crossing those listed. Thus, it can be up to error on those you have.

  Also you can mix brands of memory, as the population of DIMMs can be different as long as the population for each socket mode and rules.

  • If dimms of different speeds are mixed, all channels across all CPUs operated at the common frequency of the slowest dimm.
  • That a single dimm type is allowed per system: UDIMM or RDIMMS. They cannot be mixed.
  • The first slot dimm in each channel is color-coded with white release tabs to facilitate their identification.
  • Rank savings and mirroring
  • DIMMs must be installed in each channel from the furthest Dimm to CPU. DIMMs must be installed with County rank largest to smallest. For example, if DR is mixed with modules DIMM SR, the DRs should be in the lowest Dimm then SR DIMM slots.

  My phone comes factory with 1 x 512 MB stick with and additional empty slot.

  Here's my Question.
  I bought a stick of 1 GB for the empty slot, so if I always use the computer back to the slower RAM module (512 MB).
  I read on several post its OK to mix, but the computer will always return to the slower size, less for the performance.

  If this is the case it would be better to completely remove the 512 MB stick all together and replace with the 1 GB?

  Usually, you can mix the RAM modules.
  But all the modules will always run at the same speed that is supported by the slower module.

  For example, the 512 MB module supports 533 Mhz.
  Support for 1 GB 667 Mhz RAM
  In this case the 1 GB of RAM will run at 533 Mhz, because the 512 MB supports only this speed.

  Not a chance.

  The T610 supports 192 GB ONLY with the populous processors AND the latest version of the BIOS.  The reason is that the memory controller is on the processor, so if you have only one populated, while half of the slots in the system memory can be used - six locations associated with the populous processor.  With a single processor, 96GB (6x16Go) is the maximum.  More old BIOS do not support 16 GB DIMMS, so remember to update the BIOS (and other firmware system) BEFORE the update to any configuration using 16 GB DIMMS.

  Customers told Dell T320 server that no longer starts. He said that he tired to update firmware iDrac, but after restart server could not start. Server initializes the memory and starts initialization of iDrac, stays there for a few minutes, giving massage iDRAC initialization failed and restarts again and again. never of boots. I tried to remove all components PCIe and USB, no luck.  Please let me know how I can fix this problem

  Now I get error swc0700 IDrac and life cycle control disabled.

  This error is caused by multiple restarts that lead to errors of IPMI. Update the firmware of the iDRAC.

  Reposition the controller and the ends of the cables connected to the controller. This device is installed on the 4 PCIe slot? Re-seat all PCIe devices and restart. Response to my e-mail with DSET report.

• Synchronize the PowerEdge T320 SATA 3GBPs single speed

  Hi, I have a week old T320 with controller RAID H310 delivered with 2 x 1 TB SATA disks replaceable hot (s.3 - Reference Dell Constellation: 0T4XXN, Seagate ST100NM0033).

  The sync rate max - as stated in the BIOS H310 and the lifecycle of the controller is 3Gbps. The RAID H310 map is a map of 6 GB/s that came out in recent years and are these disks SATA 6 GB/s (according to the data sheet of the Seagate)

  I talked to Dell 'support', and they said that they had no speed specified in the documentation of the disc, so they did not know (!).

  Dell is still actually delivered 3GBPs readers - i.e. special gradient firmware?

  They suggested that I talk to sales to change the drives I - but what for? SAS would be an expensive option for sure and if 'support' don't know the specs of their own parties what is sales are going to do.

  Any ideas?

  For anyone interested, I was correct - Dell hinder their SATA 6GBPs drives up to 3GBPS, and have done since 2009. Apparently, it's a deliberate policy, as they had problems with some servers at the time using specifications SATA III-, but its silly to keep this policy more than 5 years later.

  If no server generation 12 - e.g. T320 - don't comes with disks SATA 6GBPs despite the fact that the 'same' exact drive model bought because say OEM Seagate s.3 works thankfully to 6 Gbps. Dell simply artificially degraded performance in their firmware.

  With gen 13 servers there is now a * choice * SATA speed - but why?, why same still power SATA II drives to a new server? -at least I know now what is the question.

  According to the literature, R310 supports up to 32 GB memory RDIMMS, where it is limited to the use of modules of memory 4 x 8 GB only. You can test if you have additional DIMMS to work with.

• The RAID 1 in PowerEdge T320

  I want to install Raid 1 on server T320, but I do not know how?

  I try a few steps before by ctrl + R and make VD, then add two (1 Tera each) HARD disks to the VD.

  After I install windows server 2012 and I see that one is difficult with a single disc (1 tera).

  How do I know that raid 1 is installed and working properly?

  Looks like it works very well.  With hardware RAID, the controller includes the physical drives in an array and creates a disk of 'logic' or 'virtual '.  It is ONLY this virtual disk that the operating system sees, NOT the individual physical disks.  You can install OMSA (OpenManage Server Administrator) to monitor and manage the RAID, including the different physical disks, but if otherwise, if you want to test the RAID, pull a drive while the OS is running.  If the OS crashes, it does not.  If it stays on, then it works fine.  I would recommend the OMSA road.
