Separated from this thread.
I'm trying to find out what Windows Powershell is and what it can be used for. After a quick glance, it seems that it could be used to create things like web pages or functions. I don't like to mess with things until I know something about them. Don't need all the details, so who can make me an answer more quickly, but I can play in Powershell or I can cause problems in my system?
Hope that I will soon and thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

I hope someone can help me. I am very new to PowerShell. I'm trying to see if powershell can even do what I need to. I have an encryption key that I use to encrypt files. Is it possible to have powershell to import the key and use this key to encrypt the file? I need to have a script that I can automate in Task Scheduler that runs and encrypt the file for me. I don't have any code to share because I do not know where to start. hoping someone can help me

How to extract dllhost PID by using powershell, call CMD
We have 10 applications windows .net that are hosted on windows server 2008.
All of these applications are in a single default container in an Application Pool.
Now we have a scenario where we deploy applications only 2 out of 10
Stop the application pool and deploy only for these two applications, causing one problem for others 8 applications also are not deployment.
We tried to get the PID of partitions, COM + so we can kill the PID of this particular dllhost and making our deployed application but could not achieve to get it via a command prompt or powershell
So is there a solution to kill a dllhost.exe of a particular application hosted on windows server 2008 default containing under the application pool?

System Center Orchestrator 2012 R2 + Powershell module
Hello
I'm new here and just start using System Center Orchestrator 2012 R2.
I created a file to play a Powershell Script that imports a module.
The PS module has been deployed to all servers in folders.
Executing files, it can't... I founf out that the new PS module is not imported through the host of orchestrator runs the script.
to debug, I have performed in a test files:
Get-module-list | out-file c:\temp\modules.txt
and the new PS module is not listed in the file put out!
I need to reboot servers in folders (or services) to get the new module PS imported successfully?
Thanks a lot guys.

Execution of Powershell in Windows Server Core
I have a computer that is running Windows Server Core R2 2012. I don't have the GUI or all installed roles. So all I have when I connect is the command prompt. I'm surprised that I can't run Powershell commands. How to add the GUI or get powershell running?

I did a quick search but can't find anything on this, I do not see a server then if this section in the wrong place I'll move it.
Essentially what I want to do is see and edit text via Powershell files.
During remote access via Powershell on a server, I can make most of the things I want, stop/start services, scheduled tasks, etc.. The output of some text files reading is kind of easy with Get-Content some_text_file.txt/log | Select - last 50 /-50 first and then read the output.
The problem is that some files that I want to read through hundreds of lines long and I can't search through the output. Now, I know that I can open the file using the unc path in windows explorer with \\servername\c$\folder\where\fileis\located\some_text_file.txt but I think it would be easier to access and navigate the file in Powershell, rather than having as many open windows.
This has been possible in * nix for a long time and I'm not a full blown type emacs/vim to clone. Something small and light as nano would be perfect, just enough to open the file and scroll it wisely with the possibility to search and edit sections, a version of Powershell Notepad would be ace.
As a system administrator I have often multiple pssessions open on my servers and having the ability to natively without having to install any additional software, specially for our servers that are running the server core would really benefit.

Such a powershell script exist?
Windows Server Standard 2012R2. I know not enough about powershell scripts to be dangerous. So I guess that its better to ask for help on this one. As you know, in the Windows backup program, the e-mail feature is depreciated on server 2012. However, I had no problem of customization of a powershell script that I found so that it sends an email when the nightly backup is completed successfully. Te was easy to do. In Manager tasks I just put the firing an event, with the event being backup Windows and a number of event 4 - which means backup completed successfully. In fact, it works very well for my clients. But it is not the fault of my client. (of course!)
Customers only the desire to receive an email if the backup is not successful. But the reasons for a backup failed are many which can generate any number of errors in the event log. Since I'm just not knowledgeable of powershell scripts, I hope someone can help me here, or at least direct me to where I can get help. Basically, I need a script powershell like this:
Trigger is "the eventID 14 (completed backup operation).
If eventID in the Microsoft-Windows-backup/OPerational log prior to the triggering event is not 4, while sendmail
This above would of course, include my work already sendmail script. Is this possible? Maybe someone has already done? Any help would be appreciated.

Try Powershell Copy-Item, get the message "there is not enough space on the disk.
I'm using Powershell 2.
I'm trying to copy a file, not very complicated.
Copy-item D:\Outgoing\tsc.sqb D:\Incoming
I get this:
Copy-Item: there is not enough space on the disk.
On line: 1 char: 10
+ Copy-item< d:\outgoing\tsc.sqb=""> >
+ CategoryInfo: NotSpecified: (:)) [Copy-Item], IOException)
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId: System.IO.IOException, Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.CopyItemCommandIf I replace Copy-Item by Move-Item, everything works fine. I didn't ' t want to move the file, however, simply copy it.
Any ideas? Files is 230 KB or more.
