  I know that this problem has developed many, many times before.  But I tried to fix this for several weeks now but unable to do so.

  Just in case you are still interested in a solution, found an easy way to do it. Reset the clock to October 1, 2011 and retry updates. Works like a charm

  All was well with CS5 and install Active programs, and all have been opened for the initial check.

  Adobe updater downloaded and requested updates post install routine. Everything downloaded 100%

  More updates succeeded, but Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash, two others could not be updated.
