  • How can I stop firefox auto discovered printers on fedora?

    On Linux Fedora (19 & 20 at least, probably others) Firefox automatically detects printers connected to the network, completely independently of CUPS. The printer it finds for me is legitimate, but it does not install the drivers to make it work properly. If this printer is used, it will display gibberish; control of PDF language, sometimes total sometimes undesirable. It restores the right page and tons of paper waste.

    Thank you!

    Thank you.

    I found that avahi-daemon is the culprit. I just do a fresh install of Fedora 20. I have not configured all printers, and yet the printer 'bad' appeared in the list of printers in Firefox. After that I stopped avahi-daemon and avahi - daemon.socket, the printer went away.

    I also noticed with my installation of Fedora 19, bad printer went if I put my computer on a different subnet.

    So the next step is to understand how to configure avahi to not behave in this way when it runs.

    I appreciate your help.

      • Post script *.

    I looked at what I could find on avahi, but seems not be one any affecting to ignore a particular host. However, after a survey, I found the right setting on my Lexmark E260DN to change. Under TCP/IP settings, there is a checkbox for "mDNS." The default value is on. Once I turned it off, that solved the problem, allowing me to reactivate the avahi on my computer safely. I had looked for something like this earlier, but missed, I was looking for things like 'Hello', "zeroconf", "DNS - SD" or something similar.

  • LaserJet 3030 - change the language from Russian to English

    I have a LaserJet 3030 and restored the Russian language.  I can't change back to English because I can't read Russian letters.  I tried to turn off the printer, but that did not work.  I used Google translate and plugged the words 'English' and 'language' to see how they look in Russian and looked in the menu, but none were similar.

    Because I can't read the words, I know not where I am in the menu sequence.  I read a post on this topic in this forum of 2004 with the same problem, but the link with the supposed solution was broken - probably too old. How the hell can I get the menu back to English when I can't read?

    Please respond when you stopped laughing.  Thank you.

    Hi all

    I waited a few weeks, but no brave response to get my printer is back to English.  Found the answer in a different way today, so I thought I'd share in case anyone else wants to happen.  Remember, I have a LaserJet 3030 printer, so I can't guarantee that this exact sequence will work for all other HP LJ printers.  It is a factory reset, so keep that in mind.

    Init NVRAM

    NVRAM init returns all the parameters in NVRAM to the factory default values or a default ROM value, according to the variable and performs a system reset. NVRAM init may generate the product to violate local regulations. Reset the language and country / region after having carried out the init NVRAM.

    Init NVRAM resets the settings and the following information:

    All menu settings are reset to the default factory, including the fax header and company name. As a trainer, number, pages factory settings and paper factory settings are reset. All faxes in memory are deleted. All the short group-dials and phone book entries are deleted. All location settings, such as language and national and regional, are reset.

    To run init NVRAM:

    1. Turn the product off.
    2. Press and hold down the * and buttons MENU/ENTER.
    3. Continue to hold down while you turn on the product. Hold down the buttons to the entire sequence of market.

    4 when the storage Permanent Init. appears on the screen of the Control Panel, release the buttons.

    5. when the message language appears on the screen of the Control Panel, the correct language and country/region value.

    6. let the product come back ready before using the product.

    I bought the device HP all-in-one Officejet 5740 on ebay to Italy but no menu Greek. Is there a way to solve the problem!

    Thank you.

    Hello

    I'm not afraid,

    Printers are manufectured for a specific market, a printer purchased from the Italy will have all available languages...

    If the Greek is not an option in the menu, it cannot be added to the printer.

    Here's the problem. We bought a HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3548 and the language is in Chinese. We need to change it to English. Can anyone help? I read the other posts, but they were of different printers. We have a key or configure options on ours. Help! Thanks in advance!

    Mary

    Hi freebornm,

    I understand that you have an advantage of ink 3548 Deskjet defined in Chinese for the language and you would like to there new English. I'd be happy to help you with this.

    I want to start, you turn the printer off and turn it back on so that we can be positive that it is on the main screen. Once sounds like she has resolved, press the arrow to the right of the screen 6 times and then press OK. This should be on the preferences menu, and then the first option should be language, so just press OK again. You should then be able to select English under this menu and get the printer to speak a language you understand again

    Hope this helps, have a nice day!

  • When you print in English going to another language in the middle of printing a document

    When you print a document in English, the language changes to a different language in the middle of printing. (Printer: HP Officejet 6700 Premium)

    Hi mikesage,

    OK, since you've had this problem on three different printers and only experience when printing from this one Toshiba Laptop that indicates that the problem is something in the laptop not printers. At this stage, I need for you to test it on another computer, and if you do not experience the problem, you will need to contact Toshiba support to help you understand what the parameters of the laptop are originally the problem while printing. Let me know what you find?

    At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

    This will check for any breach of integrity

    It worked without wanting other languages on the first machine, I installed but did not work on all of the following machines.

    How can I do this thing stop asking me for other language installs?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ned Grubb

    Figured it out.

    After making a copy of the file in case things get ugly, I opened the HP1100XPS. INF and concluded, at the end of the file, a large number of additional languages or further information.  I deleted everything starting with; Arabic in the example below at the end of the file and saved.  The installation worked after that without having to ask for the location of the alternative language files.

    [Strings]
    Location = "zXpsDriver location"
    MFG = "HP".
    LANGDIR = "ENGLISH."

    ; Arabic
    [Strings.0001]
    LANGDIR = "Arabic".
    Location = "zXpsDriver location"
    MFG = "HP".

    Hope this helps someone in the future.

    There are a growing number of messages in this forum and elsewhere in the internet with the steps to do a reset on different printers.  Reset to will sometimes fix problems, so resetting is not the issue.

    A few resets require you to enter key combinations to open special menus on your printer that you were supposed to never access.  These special menus are used by developers and staff support for debugging of problems, but they are not intended for inexperienced users and can have unexpected results.  A wrong button push and you might no longer have a printer, but rather an expensive paper weight.  On top of that, if you happen to the 'brick' the printer in this way, it is considered as customer induced damage and voids the warranty automatically. These resets are only intended to be distributed and used as a last resort and under the direct instruction of a representative of the HP technical support. They should not be made lightly!

  • (Bitmap) image? Format for printers used HP 1990

    I have an old image / files with a .jep bitmap. These files have been used on HP printers in combination with my old LaTeX files. The bitaps have been included in the DVI file with \special{INCLUDE file.jep}

    Can someone help me with this file format? Most likely, the extension is used only in the group where I used to work and could be different elsewhere. I have not found any converter or tool to recognize the format and my attempts to decode it have not succeeded so far.

    Thanks for your help

  • All shot, "devices and printers" is empty

    My computer has been updated from Windows XP to Windows 7 a month ago and is working fine.  I have a Brother printer connected to the computer with the cable.  Today, I added another printer that is wireless; I have printed successfully on this printer.  The problem: all of a sudden I can print is no longer my computer to brother, which is the main I want to use, and which I have been using all along.  When I installed the wireless printer, he became defined as the default value, so I thought that maybe it would be useful that I've changed the brother to the default - it's the one I use most often.  However, when I went to "Devices and printers", he appeared as foul, and I have so no way to change the default, as far as I can tell.

    I skimmed the discussion, and it seems that a lot of people have this problem of "Devices and printers" being emply - but I have not found proof of a solution that helps!  I think that there is a kind of simple solution to this point - it clearly, in my case, has something to do with the addition of another printer.  I tried the simple solution to restart the computer and the printer - no change.  I also tried to reinstall the brother driving system.

    If anyone has solutions they can offer in a simple language, I appreciate it!  I am quite advanced in my computer knowledge.

    It looks like something has become corrupted when the wireless printer has been installed.

    I would restore the system to a restore point before installing the wireless.
