  • Problem of USB ports: remove the material does not work. It works on different computers for the same USB devices

Original title: problem of USB ports:

I have a computer dell laptop inspiron d1420 provided with Windows vista and I have upgraded to Windows 7 ultimate, I noticed that when I plug in a USB mass storage, when I try to remove it, I don't get the safe delete the message and lately when I try to remove it, I keep getting the message He's busy and I can't remove it. I tried the same USB on another PC and I have no problem at all. I connected a printer, USB cable and wondows llok have not the driver or didn't install the printer, he left as a device not specified with the name of the printer, but I can't print. I tried with another PC that is also running Windows 7 ultimate and I have no problem, windows has installed the driver, because I used the same printer and the same cable. What is the problem with my USB 4 ports and how to fix?

    Hello

When you get this message while trying to remove a USB, it's basically a lock for this USB device by some process running on the computer. If we know which process is this locking mechanism, we could also find which Service is associated with this problem in the computer.

To check this, you can use a program called Process Explorer. You can download this program from the following link. Once downloaded, extract the contents of the zip downloaded to a folder on your desktop. Inside this folder, you will see a file by the name of procexp , which is the executable for Process Explorer. The download link is:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/Sysinternals/bb896653

First, plug the USB to one of the USB ports. Then, once you have the executable to Process Explorer, right-click on it and then click run as administrator. Please allow all guests UAC can occur. Once the Process Explorer is running, please follow these steps to search for processes using the USB at the moment:

    1. click on Searchand then click on manage to find them or DLL on the options menu at the top.

    2. then in the pop - up which will turn up next, type the drive letter for the USB drive connected to the computer (for example G: or H:) right now and click on Search.

    3. he should then display all instances of the process that is using this USB at the moment with the corresponding process ID (PID).

Now, once you have the names of processes using the USB at this time, you can terminate them by clicking on them and then clicking on Manage close. Once this is done, you should be able to eject the USB safely.

I would like to ask the names of processes lock the drive in your computer. This should give us an idea of what we might have to take the next.

In addition, for the other issue that you mentioned, in which the computer does not automatically and correctly detects the printer when it is connected to the computer, I suggest you to check whether or not your computer Plug-and-Play service is set to automatic. Here's how you can do this:

    1. press the Windows and the R on your keyboard to get to the top of the run box.

    2. type Services.msc in the run box and press enter on the keyboard. Allow all UAC prompts that may coming up next.

    3. once it opens the window of the Services for you, scroll down to the Plug-and-Play service and double-click it.

    4. in the properties box that will come next, the Startup type should be set to Auto and the Status of the Service must be started. If this isn't the case, please put these values.

    5. click on apply then OK, close all windows in the computer and restart the computer once.

Once these steps was performed, please check if the problem remains the same. We know the results.

I hope that these steps raises you in the right direction in order to solve this problem. Don't answer if you still need assistance, we will be happy to be of assistance.

  • How can I get the vi to wait for the user to select a COM port?

It is a problem when I run the application.  If the selected COM port is not currently connected to the material, then I get an error.  I can then select the COM port, rerun the application and everything is fine.  But I want the application to run when it is called by the user and wait until the correct COM port is selected.  I'll settle for any COM port selection and put the responsibility for the adequate selection on the user.  Thank you all.

Of course.  It works fine now.  Thanks MikeS81!

  • Windows XP does not allow applications to use the virtual serial (COM) Ports

Operating system: Windows XP Professional version 2002 Service Pack 3

I want to use some applications to control virtual serial (COM) on a device of PEARL IOLAN STS8 D/TruePort ports in Windows XP Professional SP3. When I configure the IOLAN/TruePort I see the COM ports in the Windows Device Manager and I am able to configure my applications to use ports.  However, when applications try to open the serial ports, I get an error saying that the port is already in use or does not exist.

I tried various alternatives to remove/re-add the ports 'in use' in Windows before you configure IOLAN/TruePort and applications. This (sometimes) allows me to use the ports but if the PC is turned off later and rebooted the problem reappears.

Is there a reliable way to create and use virtual COM ports in Windows XP?

    The IOLAN/TruePort Pearl versions are:

  • COM PORT problems

I have problems with a USB series adapter.  When I try to load... it says all my COM ports are "In Use" and yet I have nothing installed or activated.  How can I clear the COM Ports and release them?

    Hi RWLeawood,

This can happen if there is some hidden devices in Device Manager may use the COM ports.

    (a) click Start > all programs > Accessories and then click command prompt.

    (b) type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1 in the command prompt and press enter.

    (c) type cd \Windows\system32 in the command prompt, and then press enter.

    (d) type start devmgmt.msc in the command prompt and press enter.

    (e) click view >Show hidden devices. This will display devices that are not connected to your computer.

    (f) now, if you expand the section on COM ports, all the COM ports that have created everbeen will appear, no presents those being gray. You can uninstall what you don't want (right click, select Uninstall).

    I hope this helps!

  • How to install the Com port in Windows 7

I would like to use the COM port in the Toshiba laptop, but I can't find it in the Device Manager. It is important to communicate with another device via a serial port.

Given that the PC operating system is windows 7, I have not dealt with the problem.

Where can I get the files to install COM port?

Or is there any facility for her?

If someone knows solutions to the problem, let me know.

If there is no COM port or other device showing in Device Manager you will need to activate the serial port/COM in the BIOS of the laptop, assuming that the laptop has a COM port.

  • Read the serial number of the device in LabView COM port

    Hello

Is it possible to read a device COM port number in LabView? I would like to make an initialization of the program following the right port COM of a device, for example a USB temperature reading device, and set the COM port as the correct port at the start of the main program of LabView. I want to do that, because a USB device gets usually different dedication of COM port on different computers. Our application runs on 80 different computers. A program like that would be very nice.

    Can someone help me?

    Paal

Another thought. It also has a place where certain standards can save you a lot of time.

You have 3 dongles by machine. When setting up a computer are these three dongles * always * assigned to, for example, com 3, com 4 and com 5.

Similarly, always check that instrument 1 is always on com 3, tool 2 is always on com 4 and 3 device is always on com 5.

This convention will also simplify debugging...

The COM port is connected to a PLC which retransmit if he didn't get a response.

Is it possible that we can avoid this or is there a way to release a COM port?

  • How do troubleshoot you a USB virtual COM port?

Send orders of Labview to an Arduino board using the Advanced Serial write and Read.VI.

The problem is that no orders are received by the Arduino.

However, I can use the Serial Monitor built into the Arduino IDE to send commands to the Arduino and get the required result.

I checked baud rate, the designation of COM port and the command is a simple as string 600,0.  The VI shows no error message.

  • read com ports with command-line through labview?

I'm trying to find a way to get a specific com port through the command via the command exec system prompt in labview. Is it possible to get the list of com port connections just like one you see in Device Manager where he will give the list the name of the device connected to a certain com port? I want to be able to automatically find the port com for a specific device.

because it is a virtual com port that gets set up and I tried the vi to find resources VISA and it did not work. However, funny enough, just after I submitted this post, I found the solution to my problem. If you use exec system and type this command in the standard input:

    WMIC path Win32_SerialPort

This will bring up a list of all com ports connected and very fast too. From there I can analyze the information I want and widdle down to the com of the desired usb device port.

Maybe this can help someone on the road.

  • Exe com port error

    Hello

I am writing a program to take com ports for the main program.  Com ports are actually USB devices and I want them to be able to choose different ports if happen them to change because of the USB.  So I wrote the program to complete a ring of menu with the names of the available com ports.  Everything works well as a vi, but when I built it in the property node exe throws errors.  I run the exe file on the same computer as my vi for testing.

    #-1073807246

Property node (arg 1) in comports.vi of choice.

Is the property node: property: Interface: Interface of Information Description

Use this as a VI he puts the names similar to what you would see in windows Device Manager.  The case of fake puts just the words "not used".  The entry is an array of references to Visa for COM1 - COM10.

Any ideas on why it breaks in an EXE?

It sounds like a session VISA is still open in LabVIEW and your exe cannot access. Try to run the exe with closed LabVIEW or see here.
