    HI Milton,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Communities. From your problem description, I understand that you would like to know if it is safe to download Windows Defender updates. Please correct me that I misunderstood.

Do you have any other antivirus on your computer?

Yes, it's absolutely perfect, if you download and install the latest updates for Windows Defender. Updates to Windows that are available to you are intended to improve the performance of the operating system, add new features and keep the computer up to date.

If you use Windows Defender on the computer as a security software, it is recommended to keep it updated as this will improve the performance of Windows Defender to secure the operating system against viruses and Trojans.

  • Windows will not install updates after "update definition for windows defender-KB915597(Definition 1.21.1279.0) 03/03/09 '"

Since I installed the updated definition for windows defender-KB915597(Definition 1.21.1279.0) 03/03/09, I was not able to install the new updates. I don't know why, but none of the updates I have been install, or at least try, are installation and saying "Success" next to them. I've used different methods to dispose of everything, if I have any, virus and still have not seen any progress. And unfortunately, I deleted all my restore points to keep the memory on my laptop. I have too many errors, report them all, but some of the things I did to check to ensure that I have no viruses do analyses of the complete system and remove a mysterious software they gave me an alert by (using McAfee Security). Any help will be considered. Help, please! :(

If you install the hidden recovery partition to do the cleaning, you will probably not the product key. • In loose wireless network connection once the last update of definition for Windows Defender - KB915597 is installed.

    Hello.
The problem I've been is that I lose my network connection to my wireless network when windows downloads and installs the latest update of Windows Defender (definition 1.55.1119.0).
It can detect the network and others nearby, but cannot and does not connect to my network.
The only way I can solve the problem is to do a system restore to an hour before the update was installed and disable automatic updates.

I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 running Windows Vista Home Premium.

    Thanks for any help.

Sometimes, Microsoft offers free assistance on security updates (and I think that definitions for Defender is eligible) to:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/contact-support (depending on how you have bought the product).  Since I do not know, you will have to go through the process yourself to see if they can help.

Try to download and install it manually by downloading on your desktop and install it. Insert the number of KB to get updates on the right and choose the one corresponding to your version of Vista: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx.

If this does not work, try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. and see if you can install it then.  Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to reboot and normal status.

  • Try opening Windows Defender me gives error code: 0x800106ba - a problem caused this program service stop. Help, please.

    Hi all

I am a newbie with doozy a bit of a problem:

Services of Windows Defender on my local computer no longer works.  The message I get is:

«Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x800106ba.» A problem caused this program service stop.  To start the service, restart your computer or search help and Support to find out how to start a service manually. »

I restarted my computer nothing works.

I followed the advice from another thread in the following way: go to the control panel > click on Administrative Tools > Services > Windows Defender properties > change initially > press on apply.  It seemed that he would work until the following message appeared:

"The Windows Defender service on Local computer started and then stopped.  Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. »

Any help, help, clarity on this issue...?

    Thank you very much! :]

This problem can occur because another security application is used or the Windows Defender service has stopped, or components of Windows Defender are corrupt.

You install any new programs recently? Windows Defender is not designed to protect against the extent of malware. If programs like Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG 9 and Windows Defender both run, your system may experience degradation in performance and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time. I recommend that you keep the Defender off if another application of security protection is running. These security software stop windows Defender work properly in order to prevent conflicts.

If no similar security application is installed, I suggest that we have follow these steps to resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check the Windows Defender service
    =================================
    1. click on start, in the search box, type: "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. double-click on the service "Windows Defender".
    3. click on the 'general' tab. Make sure the "Startup Type" is "automatic". Click on apply. Then please click on "Start" under "Status of Service" to start the service.

If the problem is not resolved, please refer to step 2:

Step 2: Save the associated DLL files
    ========================
    1. click on start, type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the box start the search. Right click on CMD listed above and click 'run as administrator '.

    2. in the command prompt, type the following and press ENTER to each order:

    regsvr32 atl.dll

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 mssip32.dll

    3. close the command prompt, and then run Windows Defender.
