Problems to get my Vista PC to connect with my Xbox 360 with an ics connection.

I have a HTC Touch Pro phone on the Sprint network.  I have their phone as modem data unlimited.  I'm attempting to use ICS to share my internet connection through my laptop using my HTC Touch Pro as a modem.  I get a message saying, "an error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled."  Ideas or suggestions on how to get this up and running?

    Hi Snufferum,

    Thanks for posting on answers.com.

First, disable the program anti-virus or firewall that runs on your computer and check if the problem persists.

Note: because some anti-virus software will cause conflicts between unexpected applications, please temporarily disable any antivirus, firewall or anti-spam on your computer programs.

This problem occurs if the floating language bar is enabled on the Windows Vista-based Media Center computer. This configuration closes the connection between the Media Center Extender and the Media Center PC.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click continue .

    1. Click on the checkbox by default (new users) user account , and then click OK twice.

    3. Click tasks , and then click settings .

    3. Select Disconnect .
    4. Press the B button repeatedly until you return to the System section.
    5. In the media of the Xbox interface section, select Media Center .
    6. Advance in the instructions on the screen to get the 8-digit setup key.
    7. Note the setup button.

Step 3: Configuring the settings on the Windows Vista - based Media Center computer

    2. Click tasks , and then click add extender .

    Hello

Temporarily disable the security software on both computers and check if it makes a difference.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats.  In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  • Problems connecting Xbox 360 to computer vista laptop via ethernet connection to the network local (the laptop is connected via wifi)

I spent a few hours trying to solve this problem, and I've been to countless forums.  They all told me to go into "Manage network connections" and right-click-properties on my connection Wi - fi.  Then they speak by clicking on the tab sharing... which I did not.  I don't know how to share my connection to the WiFi with my xbox 360.  It is supposed to be easy, but I can't realize what is designed as "highly probable."  I have a laptop Sony Vaio VGN-FW390 and Vista Home Premium. Maybe I have to set up a connection to an access point, or do a sort of thing ICS... I do not know.  I am incredibly annoyed by this, and I'd appreciate any help.  Thank you.

    Messier,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

Try this and see if it works for you, it has worked for some users.
With no cable connected between the computer and the xbox, go to control panel, network and sharing Center. You should see a "Local Area Connection", which will show disabled at this stage, and your "wireless network connection", which should show connected. Connect the ethernet cable to your laptop and the back of the xbox. Select the 'connection to the Local network. After that it is well connected, disable your 'Wireless Network Connection'. Once disabled, right click and click Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and check "allow other users of the network to connect through this computer's internet connection". Once this is done, your wireless internet connection should say shared next to the State of the connection.
Turn on your wireless connection. Then, right click to 'connect to the Local network' and click on repair. Allow the end. test the connection on your xbox.

Let us know how that works for you.

When I print a job, I see it be wound on the info from the printer on both machines, but then, it is automatically deleted.

I am able to access the hard disks from two computers

The printer works this way, when you share a printer between XP and Vista where the printer is connected to Vista, XP will communicate with the printer and its drivers Vista.

So as I suspected it was due from pilots, in your case XP will be offered 64 bit readers which it does not recognize

If we rely on the printer connected to the Vista 64-bit operating system operating system 32-bit, we need to install the additional drivers (especially the XP must be with 32 bits, only 32 bits of the operating system will not show if it's 32-bit or 64-bit)

So in this case, you must right click on the printer on Vista and go to the sharing tab, and then click additional drivers, it will be the operating system and Version to select and you will need to select Windows XP x 86 and install the drivers

Now your Vista will be the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers installed. Now, when you share the printer, when the Contacts XP Vista, Vista has drivers and it will be able to share the printer correctly. Anish

  • Computer Vista laptop cannot connect to new wireless router

I had the laptop for about a year and a half, and he has a history of being pretty skittish about the wireless connection.  Often he simply refuses to do so.  During vacation last year, for example, the other three laptops connected family easily to wi - fi hotel, but mine has refused to.  There are a lot of other moments when the laptop could not connect, but I was able to connect to two most important places - home and work - without much trouble, and so I haven't looked too hard to solve the problems of connection up to now.

This week, I replaced the router in my original configuration.  The old Netgear router kept giving up the connection between her and my ISP.  The new Linksys router looks rock solid in this regard.  I have a desktop running XP computer that is wired to the new router Linksys, and he sees the internet very well.  My laptop Vista unable to connect (wireless), however.  He sees the network with a lot of intensity of the signal, and it tries to connect.  I get a message saying that the connection takes longer than usual, and then another message saying 'connected.'  However, I do not have internet access, and I see other devices (just the XP desktop, really) on the network.  The Network and Sharing Center shows my laptop connected to the 'unidentified network', and then there is a red X between this network and the Internet (represented by a grey globe).  Laptop computer signals its 'access' as "local only".

From the desktop, I can access the internet, so the router is connected to the points upstream.  From the desktop, I can also access the router configuration pages, and I see that it does not list the laptop as a dhcp client, even if the laptop thinks that it is connected.

ipconfig on laptop computer displays a wacky IPv4 address: 169.254.2.91 and I guess that the laptop does not get an address passed to the router.  I think that there should be a 192.168. *. * address if it worked properly.

Now, I was pretty sure my laptop's wireless adapter to work properly.  It always connects to the old router and it always connects to the work.  But to be sure and really test the new router, I went out and bought another USB adapter wireless.  When I plug it into the computer to Office XP, the Office connects to the router and can see the internet (even with the connection cable is disconnected).  So the new router and the new wireless USB adapater properly.  When I plug the USB wireless adapter into the laptop, the laptop still can't connect and still not get a good ip address assigned by the router.

I've been at this for a few days now, and I could really use some help.  I read a few items in the Microsoft forums that was supposed to fix the problem.  One of them told me to try to start a program called DHCP in the Administrative Tools folder.  I do not have this program on my computer.  Another told me manually change my registry (ouch!) and add a new DWORD value, and set its value to 1.  I did, but it did not fix the problem.

I would be very grateful for any help.

    Jim

Alright.  I am home to work and back again.  I have read several posts with people reporting problems similar to mine, so I guess I'm not alone in this.  In a thread, the experts proposed to start in Mode safe mode with networking.  So I gave that a shot.  I still couldn't really connect - just this 'local only' without an assigned IP address.

One thing I did notice, is that my laptop brand and its wireless adapter seem to get a special mention in most positions.  I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ50 Notebook PC running Vista Home Premium SP2, 32-bit version (even if the processor is 64-bit).  The wireless adapter is an Atheros AR5007.  Several other people with this card have reported problems.  Maybe it's the cause?

I look into updating the driver for the card, even if yesterday's test with the separate USB wireless adapter showed that the problem could not just be limited to the Atheros card.  To search for a driver update, I connect my laptop to the router with an ethernet cable.  It's nice to see the web on your laptop.  No update driver does.

For fun, I try to establish a wireless connection with the router, while the wired connection is still in place.  Looks like maybe it worked?  I say a little prayer and unplug the ethernet cable...

It's a miracle!  I have a wireless connection to the router and beyond, to the internet.  Huzzah!

The network has a real name, too, instead of just 'unidentified network '.  I want to change the network type from the public to the private, which I was unable to do while he was still 'unidentified '.

Can I terminate the connection so that I can see what happens when I try to reconnect.

Another miracle!  It connects to and still see the internet.  Callooh!  Colay!

Next test: see what happens after a reboot... (please, please, please)...

    Ch-ching!  It works again!

Final (?) test: reinstall the McAffee internet security suite and restart.

    And it still works.

    Here's a recap of what I found:
    1. laptop could not connect wireless router again, despite dozens of attempts in which I get every available straw
    2. laptop computer could see the internet when connected to the router
    3. laptop could connect wirelessly to the router while the wired connection is in place
    4. Once this first wireless, laptop computer was able to connect to the router even when the wired connection has been removed and the computer restarts

I would describe my discovery above as a work-around rather than as a solution, however.  It does not always help me stay connected the next time I'm on vacation, for example.  But perhaps the information I provided can help experts to diagnose the real problem a little.

I look forward to hear something back.

    Jim

  • Bluescreens Vista laptop with ndis.sys when I connect Xbox 360 via Ethernet

I have a laptop with Windows Vista HPG5056EA. When I connect my Xbox 360 with an Ethernet cable, it bluescreens with the message:

    "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"... to it also States:

    ' * STOP: 0X000000D1 (0 X 00000200, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0X82D4CBA1).
    NDIS.sys - address 82D4CBA1 base at 82C7D000, DateStamp 479190e7 ".

To do this, no bluescreen at any other time. only when I connect the Xbox 360 to it.

I looked all over the internet and can safely rule out bad ram (as I changed it and the problem still happens).
Others have said that it is to do with the Realtek network adapter that is installed. I've updated this to the last version of driver with no improvement.

This problem has happened twice. The first was after installing some software Nero. I have uninstalled and rebooted and things were very good.

The second time was after installing software Ashampoo. I removed that too and things were good again.

This time, the only thing I installed before getting the blue screen is Microsoft Silverlight.  I uninstalled it but the blue screen issue continues.

I tried to use system restore too but the problem remains.

I tried to access the mini dump after the blue screen file, but the ' C:\Windows\Minidump\ folder is always empty, even if I choose 'partial memory (64 KB) image' in the "Write debugging information" parameters. "
(Some have said that the issue of minidump could not have enough memory, so with my laptop with 2 GB of RAM, I put the pagefile 3072 and had at least 7 GB of hard disk free space but I don't always get the minidump file).

If anyone can help with the blue screen I would be really really grateful that I no longer us Xbox Live.

    Features of the laptop:

    Windows Vista 32 bit
    RAM: 2GB
Processor: Intel T2080 1.73Ghz (Dual Core)

Thanks for your quick response. I had already tried most of what was suggested before you put this question up, without success.

However, I apparently managed to fix the problem (for now at least) using Device Manager to completely uninstall the Realtek network adapter and remove the driver. I restarted the laptop after this and Windows reinstalled automatically and hay presto, no blue screen when connecting to the Xbox!

I don't know if this is a permanent solution but if it starts to happen again, I'll try the same and let you know.

    Thanks again
