Problems updating to SP3

I tried updating to SP3 after a clean install of Windows XP Pro SP2, and it is never finished and restarted (there was no window asking me to restart now or later). I tried to return to the Windows Update site after that, and he always tells me that I have to download and install SP3. He tried again, doing the same thing. Now, I get random reboots and it is not yet installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I have no problem updated from sp2 to sp3. However after a reboot at the end of the update process, IE8 will not hold. When I click on ie, computer absolutely crashes. Help, please

    Restart your computer and if restart is ok are not trying to run IE8. Go to add and remove and remove IE8 and your computer will be re-established on IE7.  If all is ok so far restart your computer once more and if everything is ok at this point you can download IE8 again.

I want to upgrade to sp3, and I read that before the update to sp3, you have sp1a or sp2 (obviously not available). while trying to install sp1a, I get a message "server not responding" and then he directs me to go to the microsoft site to download a version of the file that does not use my internet connection.     There is a much more important reason to install sp3 ' to be more compatible with the newer programs.  If you have been online since August 2004 with Windows XP service pack 1 or more (when sp2 is released), the chances are high that your system is compromised (one of the reasons why he is "a bit slow").

    You might seriously consider a "clean install" of Windows with whatever you have and then recovery media immediately this update to sp3.  If you do this AND your recovery mechanism restores Norton or McAfee trial ware, after you make initial/reinstall recovery and before you install sp3, follow the advice of MS MVP PA Bear below:

    VERY IMPORTANT! => Any Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You need TO uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the appropriate removal BEFORE tool to install updates, the Windows Service Packs, or updates of IE AND BEFORE installing your new antivirus application (for example, Microsoft Security Essentials - free).

    I have a Dell Pentium 4, which incidentally, this information is no longer present in my system since update properties to SP3, but it does not show that I am running Windows xp SP3. Because it is my understanding that XP will no longer support unless I am running SP3, I felt that I had to make room for the update. I had problems due to lack of space in my C drive, so I transferred all the files I thought I needed from my external hard drive, including Windows, programs, etc., I removed my programs Office and Word, to make room after the transfer or copying the files. Now, I have so many files in my external hard drive that I don't know if I need or not, but I can deal with it later. As I updated to SP3, my printer is more communicating with my computer, and the message is that the Windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with XP has passed. I launched the program compatibility Wizard to find out why this printer that I have had since I bought the computer was more inconsistent, but when the wizard will ask you to click on the o/s I am running, it does not show 'Windows XP' option, only 95,98, nt4 and 2000 are listed as options. I have an or so of these operating systems in an old drive is fixed, installed by my brother in law when I arrived to this computer. I needed it because I had led a company in this operating system and used the info. from time to time. I do not really use it more I can get rid of him? I could copy it to a cd for the record-keeping. I also tried to update the drivers, but it didn't work because he can't find a better solution than that what is already.
    After following all the links to the endless trails of rabbit, I tried to download "FixIt". I removed my printer, my Java and my WAA player to leave the place to install this promising program and Yes, it is installed! However, it does not complete the action when I try to run it. Now, my computer is old but has lots of features and room for improvement and growth, even if it has only 2.5 GB of RAM.     Get rid of System Mechanic.  Do these things as given, not to skip anything, repeat all what you have even done before.

    Search for malware:

    Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

    Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

    Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

    The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

    Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

    You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

    Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

    You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

    Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

    If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can delete the uninstall of patches which has installed Windows XP...

    I am running windows xp sp2, and my system no longer recognizes my cd/dvd ROM. I tried using microsoft 'Fix It', but it says I need to run service pack 3. During the download of update I get error SP3, the file c:\windows\system32\comctl.dll is open or in use by another application. All the closed only apps.are execution update for sp3.   The cd/dvd ROM error says file in the registry is missing or corrupted. I'm stuck. Anyone know what I can do?

    I have a HP Dv7 6197 ca with the same card as you, then here is how you fix this problem: update your BIOS to the latest version, and then in the BIOS screen (press ESC, then select the Bios Setup) and change the setting for the Graphics Mode fixed to Dynamics. This should solve your problem. If you can't find this option in the BIOS update, then try the UBR tool in the installer of UNIFIL. I suggest try F840 and F940 values.

    If the resolution is all wonky after you go into the BIOS, you will need to re - install the drivers.

    You can download the driver from the Intel website (search on your model number of graph, then Windows 7), read the notes first check it is correct for your hardware, uninstall the graphics drivers (Windows will return to a default basic driver), restart and install the new drivers.

    If this does not work, the Lenovo Web site will be older (but certified to work) drivers for your system model.

    IM new here and having a problem update from 8.1 to windows 10. Stuck at 84% and having to roll back to 8.1

    I have read that I need to update the BIOS during which I checked and there is a newer version, but I really don't want to do without notice or advice of an expert.

    ROM file contains the BIOS file, BACK and WIN files contains the software for the BIOS flash file.

    Normally, the BACK is safer but is not really a big difference.

    If something goes wrong, there is a recovery operation to make but it is only available on service manual.
