  • Product key required for Windows XP Service Pack 2 download.

    I had to back up my data and reinstall Windows, yesterday. I downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 2 installation network for IT professional and developers using Dell's Support Package. Everything seemed to be working fine until I opened a Word 2002 document and asked for a product key. I ran Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool and product key turns out to be xxxxx-xxxxx-GD6GR-K6DP3-4C8MT. What can I do?

    What application or antivirus security suite is installed and your current subscription?  What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications?  What third-party firewall (if applicable)?

    A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on the computer (for example, a test free version comes preinstalled when you buy it and that would have been reinstalled, but invalid, when you reinstalled Windows)?

The computer came with windows pre-installed on a hidden drive that is obviously not there more. The microsoft site does not accept the original product code written at the bottom of the machine. You must install the CORRECT Vista version to be able to activate it.

    You do not get the recovery media in the store where you bought it, but the manufacturer (unless it was a computer built Custom Shop!).
    You can also use a Microsoft Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc Recovery disks) to install your Vista Basic by using your product key correctly.

    Read the information below:

    How to get Vista recovery Media.

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
  • Windows Vista Home Premium product key Invaild for this activation.
    After a recent windows update I get this message to appear on things by saying the my product key is invaild. I have had this pc for a few years now and never had this problem. I do not know the product key, I bought my PC at Staples, and everything has been put in place in the store I don't even have my OS CD. I'm still not sure why its prompting me to do this now after all this time my essential security gave me 30 days until it stops. Any way to solve this problem without the product key or am I out of luck here?
  • New product key required... where to buy?
    Hi, I want to buy a new product key for my Vista installation, but seem to go in round cirlces, on the site of Ms. Can anyone offer a definitive link where I can go and get a? Please don't tell me that they are no longer available... :-(
    Hi, Monica.
    How to request a new product key
    If you don't have the product key to your Windows operating system but still have the original disc, you can request a replacement of Microsoft product key for $10USD.
    You need to have a valid product key to install Windows. Your only alternative is to buy a new copy of Windows it will hurt at least try to get an inexpensive replacement of Microsoft.
    Follow the instructions below to request a new product key for Windows 7, Vista or XP Windows:
    Difficulty: Easy
    Time: Request a replacement of Microsoft product key will probably take you about 20 minutes.
    Here's how:
    1. Determine whether your copy of Windows is a copy retail or preinstalled copy:
      Retail: Your copy of Windows is a copy retail if you or someone else has bought Windows as a stand-alone software and then installed on your computer. Your copy of Windows can also be a copy retail if it came on your new computer and that your computer was delivered to a small manufacturer. Proceed to step #3.
      Pre-installed: Your copy of Windows is a pre-installed copy if it was already installed when you purchased your new computer. This is probably the case if you have a big brand PC and you have never installed yourself a new copy of Windows. Refer to the step #2.
      Other: If you have purchased or received a copy of Windows to your organization, company or other group, see step 2 but contact the issuing group instead.
    2. Contact your original computer manufacturer directly to request a new product key if Windows was preinstalled on your computer.
      If the manufacturer of your computer is not able to help you delivering a replacement for Windows product key, go to step 3. Microsoft may still be able to help.
    3. Contact Microsoft at (800) 936-5700.
      Note: It is the telephone number of Microsoft Support paid . Microsoft site advises that calls to technical support at this number will incur a charge of $40 to $60USD. You does not charge this amount to a call regarding a new product key.
    4. Follow the prompts to auto attendant correctly then you can speak to a customer service representative your missing product key.
      I could join a man after only three issues - not too bad, in my opinion.
    5. The Microsoft representative will take your contact information - name, phone number and address - email and then to ask for details about your problem.
      Tell the representative that you have your original CD/DVD Windows installation but need a replacement product key.
    6. Answer all questions asked of you. The representative of Microsoft can seek clarification on your installation disc of Windows, as the numbers around the inner circle of the CD/DVD and know what words or images that may or may not be on the disk.
      Microsoft asks these questions in order to verify that you have the installation disc is not hacked.
    7. Microsoft will take your credit card information after verifying that your installation media is genuine.
      This new Windows product key should cost you $10USD. Some readers even sent telling me that Microsoft doesn't have them pay nothing at all so they either change their policy or some people are just lucky!
  • Microsoft representative then you will read your new product key and ask that you enter in the activation window to be sure, it creates a new installation code.
  • He or she will then transfer you to the Center to activate by phone to complete the process activation of Windows.
    Note: If for some reason you are not able to get a replacement of Microsoft product key or the manufacturer of your computer and your copy of Windows is not installed (exclude you the product keys finder method), then your last course of action is to buy a new copy of Windows - Tim Fisher
  • Product key invalid for Activation, failure Code: 0xC004F050
    I have a Dell with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 BIT computer. I have been using this computer for over a year without any major problems. I have not recently installed any software, etc. I shut down my computer last night and when I tried to start this morning, I received the following error message:
    "The product key of Windows Vista Home Edition Premium you typed is invalid for activation". I gives me three options to fix this problem:
    1. access your computer with reduced functionality. (This also will allow you to buy a product online key).
    2. enter a different product key.
    3 contact Dell to help solve this problem.
    I tried to re - type the product key that is listed on the bottom of my computer and I received the 0xC004F050 error code. I tried typing the key again (to make sure that I had typed correctly the first time) and I got the same failure code.
    I looked in the old posts in your forum of answers and I could not find any information to help out me.
    To clarify, I don't have access to my Start menu. When I connect, I just asked to select one of the three options listed above.
    Help, please!
    -Direct the customer to %systemroot%\inf
    -Locate oobe.inf and ask the customer to install and the path towards the D:\
    -Find the I386 folder
    -In this folder there is a folder named "ActShell" click Open and click OK
    While in Safe Mode, access the registry
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current WPAEvents (OOBETimer)
    Within WPAEvents, there is a value (OOBE Timer).  "Change" the value data.  One of the characters was "69."  Change it to '72.  One time changed, right click WPAEvents and click on "Permissions."  Change the permissions of 'System' to DENY.  Then access the "advance settings".  "Uncheck the inherit permissions from Parent."  then the system user account on "Edit" and change permission settings.  Click on apply and OK all settings and then start in Normal Mode.
    Try to activate by phone but first change the product key for the same.  Once completed, I got the customer continue with the wizard.  The activation was successful.
    * First of all, check that all information is accurate.  Verify that these files are in this situation, otherwise do not continue.  I used these steps to resolve this issue * if things are not identical, please do no change.  I have a few additional troubleshooting step to work around this problem.
    Hi JacobJiby,
    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!
    I understand that you have lost the product key that you received from Dell. We will give our best to help you.
    Windows 8 Dell systems are pre-activated from the factory. Once the PC is turned on, it remains active unless there is significant physical changes such as the motherboard or hard drive replacement. If you reinstall Windows on the computer, there not need product key as it is injected on the motherboard of the factory.
