program Open .inf file by default is Notepad

I did an autorun program for my cd, but the default program run is Notepad so that the cd does not start.

I can't cancel the default, run the program to my autorun .inf file be Windows system instead of Notepad.

If I knew the system file that runs the AUTORUN, I could change the default value, run the program.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

24/05/10 turns the notebook is the appropriate program 'Open with' (for text editing) for a for a CD Autorun program.

When the windows system detects a file on a CD Autorun, systems manages, not Notepad.

My problem was that my Autorun file specified an executable file that had spaces in the file name.

With the spaces removed the file name, the program worked Autorun.

Thanks for the replies.

Go to http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/reset-and-fix-broken-windows-vista-file-ext-and-type-associations-include-exe-com-sys-zip-lnk-folder-drive/ and then highlight the .inf file type and click or double-click the name and it will reset to the association of .inf file to the default values of Vista and this should solve the problem.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • Cannot open DOC files that are sent to me. I have wordpad and Notepad on my computer but you do not have Microsoft Office

    original title: DOC files

Cannot open DOC files that are sent to me. I have wordpad and Notepad on my computer but you do not have Microsoft Office. Most of the time, I get a screen that says 'open' or 'save' the file and when I click on 'Open', this message disappears. Sometimes it opens, but the message is completely scrambled with letters and symbols.

Cannot open DOC files in wordpad or Notepad. you will need a more advanced software suite. Try OpenOffice.org - it's free, and it supports the DOC format. But the best solution is to get Microsoft Office once and for all.

Download OpenOffice.org: http://download.openoffice.org/contribute.html?download=mirrorbrain&files/stable/3.2.1/OOo_3.2.1_Win_x86_install-wJRE_en-US.exe. As I mentioned, the dialog box appears after every restart.  It occurs after I entered my credentials to logon and proceeded to windows.  It seems to be pretty late in the boot process that things like the chat programs and widgets are fully charged at the time wherever the dialog box is displayed.

    Samhrutha,

    I solved the problem.

I found that when creating a new user, no longer had the open with dialog box.

I started the process of resolution of a corrupted user profile (which seems little more than creating a new and copy and paste a few old values), when I decided to try one last thing.

I logged on my account corrupted again and when the 'Open with' dialog that I open the file with Notepad.  I tried to "save under" to locate the file and found that it was located in C:\Users.  Something in recent weeks seems to have put a file without an extension, called "Mathew" (my log in name) in this folder, and it began when I started windows.

I have since deleted the file and am no longer get the "Open with" dialog

  • cant open zipped files that my screen flashes crazy

The operating system is vista. I can download zipped files, but as soon as I open the zipped file my screen becomes crazy and starts trying to open an Explorer after another. The only way I can stop it restarts my computer

    Hey Nico SJ,

If you want to return the association by default .zip from Windows Explorer, take a look at the answer given in the thread below.
Program changed default for .zip files.

Alternatively, you can set your new third-party program that you use to open .zip as your default program for the extension .zip files. This will allow you just click Open and have this program open the file for you. The link below will provide additional information about the configuration of the default program associated with an extension of the .zip type:

  • CS4 opens unchanged file with the changes made to the different registered file

OK, I searched for this but can't find anything. Probably because I don't know what is happening. (1) I opened a file from a CD raw in photoshop cs4, lets call it photo1.nef. (2) I saved the file under a different name on my HARD DRIVE after changing, photo1b.tif. I have not to form any save the file on the CD (cannot in any case). (3) now, everytime I open the original file, photo1.nef on the CD it opens with all the changes I've done previously for the file is saved in the photo1b.tif form (remember that this is the original file unchanged but not the file, I changed). But when you look at the pictures it seems to be the same version of the file. I closed photoshop and it deleted all my temporary files, and still, it opens the file with the changes, even if other programs open the file in its state of origin without any of my changes. How can I stop this? I think I can go nuts on it! Help! My wife is laughing at me when I show him.

Looks like you may be using a cache for your Camera Raw settings (and not the XMP sidecar files).  Check your preferences in Camera Raw or make an edition > Camera Raw preferences of the bridge.

You should be able to clear the changes by right-clicking on the image in Bridge and selecting parameters develop > clear settings.

Only Adobe programs will use these changes by the way.  This is why open the file in other programs does not display them.

    Hi Wiillam,

This problem occurs because the icon cache is not updated correctly.

    Refer to:

Note: Serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. • How to change a default program to open the file instead of Widnows Media Player

    Original title: Media Player

Windows Media Player opens many of my files (which in fact cannot be opened).  What can I do to make the Media Player ceases to be the default to open my files?  I can't even open Internet Explorer because Media Player wants to open.

    Hello

By the description, I understand that Windows Media Player is been activated as default program to open all the files.

You can change (set another program as default) your default program following the steps mentioned below:

    1. open default programs by clicking the Start button, click default programs.
    2. click on associate a type of file or Protocol with a program.
    3. click on the file type or protocol that you want the program to act as the default value.
    4. click on the change agenda.
    5. click on the program that you want to use by default for the selected file type, or click the arrow next to other programs to show other programs. (If you don't see other programs or your program is not listed, click Browse to find the program you want to use, and then click Open. If no other programs are installed that are able to open the type of file or Protocol, your choice will be limited.)
