  In order to transfer files, I was connect my Nokia Lumia 520 to my laptop Dell Windows 8 using the USB cable provided several times a week for the past few weeks with no problems, but today would not set the connection and troubleshooting of Windows 8 is now a driver problem (missing driver). I have restored WIndows 8 on the laptop at a point when the connection worked last but still have the same problem. I tried to find a reliable source for a driver to replace lumia-914/RM 520 without success - neither Nokia nor Microsoft seem to offer anything. Can someone point me to a driver download?

  Thanks Palcouk. I have now resolved the issue. I found another dysfunctional driver for my scanner and decided on a factory reset and system reconstruction. This has fixed everything although the reason for the original problem is a mystery because my system was fully protected against viruses etc.

  It is possible that you setup parental controls are corrupt. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall Essentials by using the CMD line parameter. Please follow the steps in this link:

  2 remove the Windows Live folders on the following directories:

  C:\Program Files\Windows Live
  C:\Program Files\Windows Live Files\Fichiers

  Note: If there is more than one Program Files folder when you open the C drive, and then double-click Program Files x 86 instead.

  VCRedist_x64 is for 64-bit systems.

  Vcredist_x86 is for 32-bit systems.

  If you are running Windows 7 32 bit, just install the x 86 version.  If you have Windows 7 64-bit, you may need to install the x 64 and x 86 version. First try the x 64. I f it does not work, install the x 86 version as well.

  vcredist_arm.exe is for devices using ARM processors which are compressed as the Microsoft Surface.
