Program used in Windows 7 to open Zip files

Downloaded zip files.  Accidentally tried 'open with' windows photo viewer.   All of the changed files zip.  Cannot find what program to use as the default value for the zip files now.   Tried several that are matched in 'open with', but did not work, and when I watched, I didn't know what to try.   Can anyone help?  I checked the settings in the Control Panel, but I don't know we can do to bring back the zip files, so I can check out them.

Hi PoJo1

Go to the following site.

Difficulties of file Association for Windows 7

In the file types list, right-click on the "Zip" type and select Save target under... Download the file to the desktop.

Go to the desktop, click on the zip_fix_w7.reg file and select the Merge option. If you get a pop-up message on the registry, select OK to merge.

This will refresh the built-in zip functions.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for using Windows 7

  • Windows 7 cannot open zip files

I'm almost certain that, in the past, my Dell Inspiron 580 with Windows 7 could open zip files.

Last month I had to replace my internal hard drive and reinstall Windows from the disks that I bought from Dell.  Now when I try to open a zip file I downloaded, I have an alert that says that Windows Explorer is unable to open it.

I see a lot of different programs, you can buy or download free, claiming to allow you to decompress the files.  Isn't Windows supposed to be able to open zip se files?

Is there any downloadable for free, zip file openers that work with Windows 7 64 bit?

    Hello Jumprun,

Compress or decompress files isn't windows features. Software of third party such as WinZip, WinRAR, 7Zip are used to compress and decompress files. You can download them by clicking the program you want to download.

  • Windows does not open Zip files more

I use Windows 7 Professional for a few years now and I've always been able to open the zipped files.  Suddenly now my pc does not have a program associated with the opening of the zip files.  Something has changed and I have no idea of what has changed.  I asked this question before a Microsoft.com site, and he sent me to a site that was not Microsoft where I tried to download 7-zip which worked. But in the download zip 7 process it has also installed other applications that try to sell me unsolicited garbage.  I am appalled to see that Microsoft would send me to a site that attempted to install unsolicited applications.  Come on guys, just give me my windows version of WinZip go back so I can go about my business.   I have reviewed questions in this forum about this topic and it seems that it lasts for awhile now, surely someone at Microsoft noticed this problem and has a solution for this.  Can we download a fix for this.  Where in Windows is the program that opens zip files stored?

    Hello!

Please restore default Windows 7 registry entries and program of the .zip file extension associations.
How it's done, is described here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html

    Hope that helps.

They are .zip files. inside are the mp3 files that I need to listen to. can someone help me.

    Hello

You need to open ZIP files, which are compressed to make it smaller, then use the content
in the application appropriate - so if the audio or video content can use WMP.

Compress and uncompress files (zip files)
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/compress-and-uncompress-files-ZIP-files

Although Windows has integrated ZIP, you might be more comfortable using a program
with more features (and works with different types of compressed files).

  • How can I change the default program to open ZIP files?

    original title: open .zip files

I changed the default mode of opening zip files somehow. My laptop now wants to use something other than the Windows Explorer to navigate to the zip files. I tried to "Browse" to Windows Explorer, but it will not find...

Zip files still show with compressed folder icon?

Try re-registering the DLL that controls how the Zip files are open.  Click Start and in the search for field type

    Regsvr32.exe /u zipfldr.dll

Press ENTER.  Click Start, then in the type field search

    Regsvr32.exe zipfldr.dll

Press ENTER.  See if that fixes things.

  • Windows to use a specific application to open a file with a MCD.

Original title: "open with" application "Choose default program" Cancel

I accidentally changed the icon and the program using the "open with" application "choose default program" to the word instead of VectorWorks. The central database file can still be opened by the program. However, I can't find the program or its icon on the 'recommended' or 'Other' menu programs even if the program is located in my folder "Program Files". How to cancel the global setting or that the program "open with" to recognize the program?

  • Use them command 'properties' in Windows Explorer to open the file

I get this error where, when I start Photoshop, I get a popup saying "can't load Photoshop because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary privileges...." "Use them command 'properties' in Windows Explorer to open the file. I have unlocked access to everyone for the 64-bit and 32-bit version still does not work. The only way to make it work is by going to Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit) and manually start as administrator.

Everything was working fine until today. Help, please!

If it worked before, and you have made any hardware or software changes, you can reset the preferences.

Start photoshop and hold IMMEDIATELY the Alt, Ctrl + Shift keys.  It is a little awkward, but keep trying until you get a window to reset.

  • Opening zip files downloaded

I don't know if this is the right forum, I'm sorry if not.  I need help, but if you can help... lately, whenever I try to open a file of internet download it tries to open it with Adobe Reader, which causes me to get an error message: "Adobe Reader could not open" Multi - flowers.zip' because it is not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example he was sent as an attachment to e-mail and has not been correctly decoded).  How can I change the default program to open zip files? He used to work very well so I don't know how this has changed... very frustrated.  Help, please!  Thank you! I use Microsoft Vista

Whenever you have a zipped file, you need to "unzip" first.
If you right click on the zip, a pop-up box will appear. In this box, you will see an option that says "extract all "?

If you have the "Extract all" option, click it. You are now 'unzip' the file zipped. Once completed, you can now open it the usual way.

  • Error trying to open ZIP files

    Hey all,.

I am a Helpdesk technician to my company and we have had several users report that they get an error when you try to open ZIP files. These files are on our network file server. The error message received is 'Windowscannot open the folder. The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid".» We have installed 7 - zip on a couple of PC users for a temporary solution, but there are more than 150 users in our network and it's a lot of time to go to each PC and install it. So far, we have heard of 15 who have this problem. We are running Windows 7 64 bit. I searched all over the web for a fix and came to nothing. This question seems to have begun about 3 weeks... around the 9/15/2015...maybe an update of microsoft? Patches or ideas would be great! Thanks in advance.

Edit: We have noticed that if the user restarts their PC the problem goes away for a spell, but returns spontaneously. We use Thin Clients HP and Dell machines... It happens on both

  • How do you make your computer will stop recording your zipped files less? How to open zipped files?

Whenever I go under MYItlab to download my homework with which he recorded zipper. But before he recorded them with Microsoft. Now when I go to open them in my USB it is said that they are corrupt and wont open. How to open up with Microsoft? How can I open zipped files?

    Quote your version of Windows.

If the files are download as zip files, then this is your school that provides in this way.  Windows inherently knows how to handle zip files.  She treats them like "compressed" files  Just save the zip file to a folder, and then open Windows Explorer and double-click them.
