Programs disappear from my office and the program from the list but still appear in the control panel

I use Window XP Home Edition and lately, I've noticed that programs have disappeared off the coast of my office and in the list of programs without allow me to delete them.  Firstly, this came to light when I went to start my virus scan and impossible to locate the icon or in the list of all the programs, but it is in the status bar at the bottom right of the screen. I have since discovered that other software have disappeared and when I will remove and reinstall them using the Control Panel can't do.  And when I tried to back up my data when it came time to burn data on a cd, I got a message asking me to insert a disk. Yes, he asked for a floppy and I couldn't have it burn the disk that was selected at the beginning of the backup.  A couple of days, I got the "blue screen" a couple of times and the computer turns off automatically. Oh yes, one more thing restore to a previous period will not fix the situation. Can someone tell me what is happening?

Hi LarryFuller,

It seems that your computer has been infected by the virus or malware. Scan your computer with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to get rid of the same.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

If you have not downloaded java, you will need to download, install it. It can only be downloaded, installed and run desktop t5he - not from the beginning.  Then you should find it in the control panel.  Hope this helps and if you need another post to help and we will be happy to help you.

  • Since the so-called S.M.A.R.T.got in my computer didn't have any of my desktop icons. I'm unable to access my documents. I can only use IE 9 and the control panel.

A company called S.M.A.R.T. somehow entered into my computer and continually scanned my hard drive.  I was able to get rid of that after many emails for them.  After that they took out of my computer, I had my office.  There were once beautiful images in the background with all my many icons showing.  Now all I have is a blank screen with only a few icons that I was able to resurrect.  They are: Recycle Bin, Panel Sontrol and new Document Microsoft Word Document template.  I am more able to access one of my documents.  There are documents that I need to work on but cannot do it at all.  Is there a solution to this problem?  I'm desperate!  Thank you.

Your computer is infected with the rogue malware. Rogue malware is software that installs on your computer. He tries to scare you into buying the product informing you of the wrong issues with your hard drive.

First thing NOT to do is to remove all temporary files. This rogue often hides your files. It is a program that can view your files, but you must first get rid of the malware.

Restart your computer in safe mode with network. Click HERE, download, install, update and perform a full scan with Malwarebytes.

Once the scan is complete, please let me know what has been detected. If you have trouble running Malwarebytes click HERE, download Rkill and run. Rkill is NOT a malware removal tool. Simply, it detects the malicious processes that are running on your computer and it kills to run malwarebytes and scan your computer.

  • Limit the control panel and IE for the Standard user account

I'll set up a new computer for a 91 year old customer in a retirement home, who don't use the computer for e-mail and an occasional Wordpad document.  His son wants to put computer in place so that it cannot get to the Internet Explorer browser, or go to control panel, because he bumbles around the keyboard causing all sorts of problems requiring frequent service for me calls.

The operating system is Windows Vista Home BASIC, so gpedit.msc is not installed.  I have activated the system administrator account for my use when I am called to repair the computer and set the Standard user to user account.  The problem is that the only way I found to disable IE and the Control Panel causes them be turned off in BOTH accounts.  I wish I could disable them ONLY in the user account.

The only solution I found to disable the control panel is a registry hack in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current versionpolicies where I put a DWORD 32-bit "NoControlPanel" with a value of 1.  I tried to do that in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive, but it had no effect.  This kind of work, but there are two problems then; Mises_a_jour Windows 1) won't install and 2) when I have to go to work on the computer, I first change administrator user, then change the DWORD value to 0 and finally to restart the computer, causing additional assignments, lengthen my time at work.

Second, the only solution I could find to disable IE was in the default protrams Panel, which disables the administrator as well.

Can someone tell me if there is another way to achieve this, while IE and control panel are disabled only for the user?

Change the security to the IE executable rights? Remove 'Users', while you keep the administrator rights.

Thanks for your response, but will not solve problem of this "gentleman". The object is not so much to limit internet access, as it should restrict access to programs.  He is 91 years old, has small hands and types rapidly with two fingers, but made many mistakes.  Disability is before everything to prevent clikety snap everywhere, because he creates sort of a zillion copies shortcuts of the webpage on his desk, until everything hangs and I have to go a push up on his mess. The same reason applies to the Contorl Panel.  We don't want it to be able to get to the Panel "printers."  When a document will not be printed for a reason, he go, dummy click around and created a bunch of copies of the printer, with a gazillian of documents clogged up in the queue of the coil.  I had to cclear up to 100 documents from the spool on 50 copies printer queue.  It's really an economic problem for his son.

Well, as applets, there are categories. The policy of 'hide applet' does not work for categories.

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

There will be some personal information (such as the user name and the name of the system), and anything that turns information private for you, simply delete the pasted information.

I am wanting to remove some programs from my "adding and deleting' on the control panel.  I have several that I don't know if they are necessary in order to do not want to delete them until I have found.  Example: Microsoft.NET framework 2.0 service pack 2, if I said the same thing with the exception of program 3.0 can remove either one or both or what?  Redistributible MS Visual C ++ 2005 and also have 2008 and 2110.  Platform Installer 3.0, WCF RIA Services V1.0 for visual studio 2010.  I don't even remember downloading all of this stuff, but don't know if it has a meaning to my computer or not.  Y at - it somewhere I can look to find such information?  Don't like silly things like this, but would rather ask that screw up something.  Thank you

    Hi Rugger,

Welcome to the community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question.

This issue could be happen if system files have been corrupted or any third party application conflicts.

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

I suggest you perform a SFC Scan and check if it helps.

Steps to perform a scan SFC:

    a. click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, and open the command prompt.

    b. type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

[The command sfc /scannow. analysis of all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.]

Once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

    Reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Hello
Your computer is probably infected by malicious software. Some malware will hide all the icons and shortcuts on your computer. To make your icons visible again, download Unhide.

Once downloaded, double-click display and let it run. It removes the attribute hidden on all files and try to restore the icons on the Start Menu to their location.
Then try following steps 1 and 2 in this virus/malware removal guide: http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/malware-removal-guide
It contains instructions which will remove the malware more. If you have any questions, just ask me. I hope this helps you.

In addition, Visual Studio shows a split second start screen, then disappears without any messages.

Moreover, the same result occurs if I use the installation for each program file. In other words, the execution of the installation executable starts the Visual Studio splash screen, then disappears.

No similar behavior occurs with any other executable installation files or the programs that are listed in the dialog box programs and features in the control panel of Win7.

Same behavior occurs in safe mode.
