Programs open files/applications not found
Very suddenly, when I click on some icons on my desktop (e.g. Explorer), he asks me what program I want to open it with. Also, many programs/files say "application not found" (for example, all items in the control panel). Any suggestions?
Hi, Sofie,.
You will need to update your antivirus and run a full scan of the system in safe mode. Reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222 on how to start the pc in safe mode.
You may need to consult: listed process: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310585 :
You will need to rename regedit.exe regedit.com, and then click on Start-> Type Ru & -> Regedit-> ok.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Exefile\Shell\Open\Command
(you will have to press on + to achieve order)
Now, double-click default slot right windows and then change the value in this box for '%1' % *.
Repeat the same for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Exefile\Shell\Open\Command
Close regedit, restart your pc and check if its working.
I hope this helps.

Open with / Application not found
I me was a virus called 'Vista Internet Security' told me almost everything on my computer has been infected, and he tried to make me buy a $ 50 allegedly program fix. I knew it was fake, so I used SUPER Anti Spyware Free Edition to get rid of him. He got rid of a few horses of Trojan and spyware rogue file. I was so happy to make it out of my computer. But I restarted and now when I try to open something (e.g. Mozilla Firefox) a window pops up that says: "what do you want to open this file with?" and, of course, I just want to go on the internet, not open it with anything. It will open on a regular basis if I right click and click "Run as Administrator" but won't some files. For example, if I double-click on Microsoft Works, it will say "Application not found" and if I right click on it and click "Run as Administrator", it is said also that. I don't know why it does this, if anyone can help me?
Hello
Just in case there are persistent pieces of malware here is the method of complete elimination.

Hi David,
1. are you trying to open the file using open with and choose Winzip?
2. have you already download the file using Internet Explorer?
3. what version of Windows operating system do you use?
This can occur if the location of the temporary file is missing or damaged.
If you have downloaded the file, and then try to re - download it again by changing the location to download the file and see if it helps.
You can also try to save the file on the desktop and check if you can open the same without any problem.

Application not found error-choose the program you want to use to open this file
Soon all the world.
I really hope that someone will post a reply to my question as soon as possible. I will try to be as descriptive as I could possibly, in order to solve my problems.
The main problem is that I can't open some, if all the program files, applications on my windows 7, 32-bit laptop. I'm constantnly get application not found error, showing in a small window address, I was trying to do. Whenever I want to open a program, like the Adobe reader, word of microsoft, excel, mozilla firefox, google chrome - basically everthing, a window opens and is telling me this: choose the program you want to use to open this file: file: acad.exe... and recommend me acrobat from adobe program, any program I was trying to enter (in this case autoCAD).
Cannot open cmd, when I go to system recovery, it says: System Restore could not start. I normally post records in: C and: D sheet music, play music, watch videos and see photos. I found a "hole" not being able to go to the internet via a browser. I discovered it when I went to an online help in some of the trobleshoots. It would open tab in google chrome by itself and then on it, I can browse the internet normally, but only through the said track.
Currently, the microsoft security essentials performs a custom analysis (: C and: D), because I suspect it is a malware, or some kind of virus. It happened when I tried to download a program from CAD Solidworks 2012 via a site that I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention, that I don't want. Unless it's okay with you :) It begins with a letter t. By the way, I noticed that my: partition D has accumulated 10 GB + more in the space of a few days, because I remember two weeks ago I had close to 70 GB of free space, now it's about 56.3 GB. Curious, because I know that I did nothing so great in this period. Maybe I need to tell you that I get this window, from time to time, when I browse the internet (I never visit suspicious sites, or at least I don't me remember more I visited one in a very long time, like 4-5 months):

I found this in my story, be very careful what you do with this link, I don't want that take you anything ;)
That's on my side, please ask anything and everything, I'll visit this page when I can.
Good bye!
P.S. forgot to mention that when I download a program (mozilla Firefox), I can not run it due to: Application not found. I hope I found the right place for it.
Original title: Windows 7 - Application not found. A big problem or easy-peasy?
HelloThanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
- What is the complete error message you get when opening a file?
- What happens when you try to open the command prompt?
- What happens when you try to access the internet by using Internet Explorer?
- You did changes to the computer before the show?
According to the description of problem errors you get "application not found error" and "choose the program you want to use to open this file" and not being is not able to do system restore, it seems that some windows file is corrupted. I also suggest you to post back the results of analysis.
I would suggest trying the following methods and check if this is useful:
Method 1: Run SFC scan and check for corrupted Windows files and violations of integrity.
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833
Method 2:
For any question, where his prompting you to select the default programTry to set the default values for the programChange the programs that Windows uses by defaultFor any question, where you are not able to download and install firefox, download the file and save it and then try to install firefox.
I hope this helps. Please let us know the results. Feel free to write us again for any help.

Original title: rundll.exe error
I checked the previous messages and can't seem to find a solution to this problem. Recently I ran 3 different scans, i.e. sbybot, avast and Malawarebytes virus. After that I ran these anti-virus programs and remove viruses, I was not able to open any more virus scanners. Every time I tried, would open a window saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file." If I try to download a new virus scanner, it says the same thing.
When I try to open the Control Panel, add or remove programs, a window appears saying "C:Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found. I checked this file on my c: drive\system 32 and see the rundll.exe file. I also copy and pasted the file rundll.exe my CD of Windows XP in c: Windows\System32
Everything else seems to work fine on my computer, and I get no message on the rundll.exe file when the computer starts up first.
Any help would be popular!

Error messages occur now - seem to appear now, after I did a Defrag. If I try to open AOL, it brings me to a display list who wants to choose from a list of programs. For AOL, I click on AOL. I didn't used to have to select from a list of display. Then I tried to open an Astrology program and it took me to the same list, which of course is not. Now, I get the same error as follows: C:Windows/system32/rundll32.exe - Application not found - OK
Here's a Plan:
Goto, start system restore restore Menu\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System
Now select the oldest Restore Point and restore your computer, but first make sure that you have an external drive.
After that C:\Windows\System32\Rundll32.exe copy the external drive and the disc is ejected
Open the system restore and undo restore
After the undo operation is copy the Rundll32.exe in the road to C:\Windows\System32
and the problem solved
Note: the rundll32.exe should be missed recently and you should have an old Restore Point which contains a file Rundll32.exe Intact

I recently had my computer repaired and Office 2007 has been reloaded. Now I get the message "not found when I try to open some files and application for a single file, «windows cannot find the file...»» ».
If I change the name of the folder, some files were opened.
In one case, the file opened under the new name [I added a letter], then later not open again - got the same message "application not found" and the Red Cross of death.

Failed to open application error "Application not found".
A week ago, my computer has been assaulted by an anti-spyware scam (it happened), and I got a code off of the Internet to stop it. Because, as those who are familiar with it, you can not go on the Internet unless buy you it or have an activation code. But, after having done that, a few days later, my computer started acting strangely. For example, by clicking on the links to Web sites, the computer could take me to a very strange place, and I have to type in the site, try again or click on cache.
Another thing, now I can not access my Microsoft Works. I click the icon and the House appears, but he says that "Microsoft was not able to open the selected project. The file may be damaged. "I can access now not all of my files on Microsoft Works.
Another thing, which is really weird, a day trying to get on the Internet my computer made me choose the program by which I wanted to go on the Internet (what?). So, I had search for Firefox. And, it does not only for the Internet, he is also for Microsoft Works and other programs on my computer.
And she always does when I try to go on the Internet.
Another thing, I am not able to download or install anything more. I really think that my computer has a virus. When I try to download/install something, there is a message that appears that says something on the lines of "Application not found".
I tried the system restore, but it doesn't seem to work.
Help, please.-Thank you.
