Public folders in Windows 7

Hello

We have issues where a library users is using both their folder my documents, as well as the public documents folder.

Is there a way to remove this access, or at least remove the public documents in the libraries? as a large amount of users began to record locally and lose the job.

See you soon

David

Of course, with the right button of the document library, click Properties, and then set the folders you want to use (or remove them).  You can also set the default save location.

On a NAS200 I install a user called 'jon' with a personal file and a password. Problem is, I don't see how now to access folder Jon of Windows XP in the same way that I can access the public folder.

I get "\\Nas200_9792de\public disk" Windows and files read/write without problem, including several subdirectories, I created it there.

After you create a user, I guess I would then be able to access the file with something like \\Nas200_9792de\jon for example. I tried a drive letter of mapping, but get an error message

on "network folder is mapped currently...... try a different username. But

    nothing alse is currently mapped.

If I try"add a network place" I get "the folder you entered is not valid. Please choose another. "

I've updated the firmware to V3.4R75, but this made no difference

I searched throughout the "NAS200 User Guide.pdf" and he gives no explanation on how to access the personal folders of Windows.

I searched also Linksys FAQ but could not find a help there.

    Sincerely, Shaun.

You can try using the network drive mapping utility that is included on the cd to map the file. To map a shared folder, please follow the instructions of thses:

Right-click on the icon in the system tray. Click shared folder mapping. The folder mapping split screen appears. Select the appropriate network storage System.Select the shared folder if you don't see the folder you want, click the Refresh button. Keep the default drive letter or enter a different letter in the field of training. Then click on the map button. The shared folder opens automatically, and a new window will appear to inform you that the shared folder has been mapped. Click the OK button. On the mapping of shared folder screen, click on the close button. Double Clcick workstation. the shared folder will appear as a network drive.

    Hi Katmandu774,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

The Public folder is a convenient way to share files that are stored on your computer. You can share files in this folder with other people using the same computer and with people using other computers on the same network. Any file or folder you put in the folder Public is automatically shared with the people who have access to your Public folder.

If you are not on a domain, you can limit network access to the Public folder so that people with a user account and password for this computer. To do this, turn on sharing protected by password.

    1. Open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.
    2. Click the arrow next to password protected sharing, and then click one of the following options:

    ·         Turn on password protected sharing

    ·         Turn off password protected sharing

    1. Click apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To control the level of access to the Public folder

    1. Open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.
    2. Click the arrow next to public folder sharing, and then click one of the following options:

    ·         Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open files

    ·         Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open, change and create files

    ·         Turn off sharing (people logged on to this computer can still access this folder)

    1. Click apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Also, make sure you add everyone to the public folder and give the necessary permissions to access it.

  • How can I move the public folders default location to a new drive?

I'll put up a brand new machine with Windows 7 pre-installed and a big 500 GB hard drive.  I partitioned the drive into 2 logical drives C: and E:

Wherever possible I want to store all user data on E: (I know is not possible for all the parameters of the user to move - mores the pity).  I have not yet copied across all the data from my old machine so I just empty folders to play with at the moment.  I moved all the My Documents/pictures/etc files for the e: drive by changing the location in the properties of the folder.

However, I can't do the same with public folders.  If I right click on the folder, click Properties, then location, it's like I can't change C:\Users\Public\... but it does not change

No idea why, or how I can get around this?

This is possible thanks to a Directory junction that can redirect to a new location of the Public folder.

First create a new folder on E:\ and maybe you want to call it Public.

Go to Cmd prompt as administrator.

All copy existing public folders to the new folder created using the command
Robocopy /MIR %Systemdrive%\Users\Public E:\Public     (or any name that you used for public folders on E :)

You need robocopy as he takes care of hidden files, etc., especially if you have the recorded TV folder in public folders.

Once the copy is transferred, you must delete the existing public folder and create a junction in his place. To do this, boot into Safe Mode as an administrator and remove the public content and file inviting again by running Cmd as administrator. To remove the Public folder:

    RmDir /s /q %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public

After creating the new folder location and remove the existing public folder, now is time to create a Directory junction of audiences with the following folders:

Mklink /J %Systemdrive%\Users\Public E:\Public                         (or any name you named the folder opublic on E:\)

    for example: mklink /dC:\Users\Public E:\Public

Now, all that is intended for the original Public folder gets directed to the new location.
    I hope this helps.

  • to access the "non-public" folders on my laptop wireless

I can't access "non-public" folders on my laptop wireless even though I can access its public folders.  Specifically, I chose the folder music on my laptop to be shared, but I still don't see it.  I use Windows 7 on the desktop and the laptop.

Ah well, I struggled with myself before.  There are a few things that you may want to check. There are share permissions, there is also the folder permissions. They are separated, but both must be opened for the part to work.

So the first place is under the sharing tab/Advanced Sharing / permissions.  The other is on the Security tab.  In both cases, you want to allow 'all' to 'read '.
    Here is the share permissions...
And here is the folder permissions...
  • Unable to find files and folders using Windows Search

Original title: Windows search returns no results, but only for a single user - another user works very well - Windows 7

All of a sudden windows search of files and folders (from windows Explorer) do not return results - even if I'm looking for in a folder with a file name that I know is in there.  However, it works for the other user on this system.

The things that I tried or looked at who did not work:

    • Configuration of the default folder options.
    • reconstruction of the index
    • sfc/scannow - said "windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them.  I have the CBS. If necessary log file.
    • research done that windows has been archived 'Tour of the windows features turn on or off.
    • Ran the registry of Windows Search - he said that he fixed two things (cannot tell you what they were now), but still, it does not solve the problem. When I run it says once again that there are no errors.
    • I checked this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced\\\ and key Start_SearchFiles - which was set to 2, the default
    • Under Customize Start Menu - search with public folders is selected under search for other files and libraries.

It still does not work.  The search box in the start menu seems to work, but not for anything I get.

    Frustrated!

  • ITunes library and duplicate the items and folders of Windows Explrr

I have a 2 or 3 General questions on iTunes.  I download all my iTunes on a PC and play really.  That is why the questions about iTunes folders in Windows Explorer.

1 how to produce duplicates in the library?  I have loads.  I saw the advice to remove them.  This helps a little but it's still a task to be piecemeal.    How to stop what is happening in the first place?

2 in addition to the duplicates.  Last night I went in Windows Explorer on the PC that I use to download and play iTunes and entered the iTunes Media/Music folder.   I walked carefully each folder album deleting duplicate here.   However, on opening iTunes itself today, duplicates all seem to be still there in the library list.   Why it did not work?  ITunes is not loading the content of this folder?  If this is not the case, why I was informed to support?

3 What does the symbol of iCloud next to some of the tunes?  If I run the cursor over them, it says 'download '.   But surely I downloaded it when I bought and added to my library?    Why should I download it again?  That this symbol that the melody in question can not play if the PC is offline?

4 one of the songs in my library list appeared today in my Windows Explorer iTunes Media/Music folder.   I can I have accidentally deleted while I was removing the duplicates it and have now downloaded it in the album in this folder.    Probably so, iTunes library does not constantly in the folder of music on a Windows PC?    He only takes over here if the backup is necessary?

If so OK but other files appear in the library that do not exist and he asks me if I want to find the file?

I guess that my confusion stems from the assumption that the iTunes Media/Music in Windows Explorer folder should indicate precisely what will appear in the library in the app.

    Vondegru,

With regard to questions 2 and 4: iTunes does not automatically "load" all the files in the folders.  You can do an analysis of initial unique optional optional when you install iTunes, which will add all are compatible files in the iTunes library.  After that, files not added unless you take action to add.

Our messaging system is Exchange 2013 and we have three Public folder mailboxes in a database. • How to make available public folders after a SCR failover

    Hello

My company has an infrastructure of Exchange 2007 SP2.

We have 2 servers for mailboxes in CCR cluster that also hosts the public folders.

We have a server SCR where replicate us all databases for site resilience.

Database of public records is also replicated with SCR replication on the server VCC (what is sense? is supported?).

I read the database portability TechNet article that addresses how failover to the server of the VCC.

But the document does not how to failover of the Public folder database on the server of the VCC.

I think I read that if PF is configured as CCR cluster I can't use native PF replication to replicate to another server.

What is the right way to put at the disposal of users in the case of a failover of server SCR PF?
