Quad Core CPU - how is used by workstation?

I just bought a new machine with a quad core CPU.

I know that Workstation only supports a maximum of two hearts. What I don't know is: what does that mean? That means, that if I would have four virtual machines running...

  1. they all do they share only the first two nuclei of the four cores available?
    .

  2. or each of them uses a distinct nucleus? (or two hearts arbitrary if I would assign two to a virtual machine)

Please enlighten me!

No, my computer supports a maximum of two virtual processors. All physical hearts are deemed be a CPU for the guest operating system. So if your have four hearts in your application assigned to the guest host and two vCPU it there always uses two cores at one point of time.

    Hello.

And how you can use several Toshiba Quad Core HD processor with four RISC SIMD 128-bit processors in the Qosmio G50-10 t except that: enables support for H.264 encoders / HD / MPEG2 decoders, with functions for convert, transcode, navigate using the face (Face Navigation) detection and control actions. INJURY is not used!

Maybe someone knows some software sales in which it could be used.

    Hello

This Quad Core CPU is an additional processor that is not always in use.
It was designed in the order using the main processor in some of the media process.
For example, the Quad Core CPU works during the encoding or decoding of certain video standards. If you want to change it the standard of the video, the Quad Core CPU helps you complete this quick procedure.

In addition, it improves the quality of the video (not HD). So, theoretically, you can view the videos in HD quality.
Of course, you won't get the same quality as a film that has been recorded in full HD, but the Quad Core helps you improve the 576i pictures.

  • Unique use of VM CPU on the system dual quad core CPU

My environment: two machines, a Dell 2950 with dual quad core CPU, running ESX 4.0 Advanced.

Machine 1 to several virtual machines on it.

Machine 2 has a virtual machine that hosts a .NET/IIS web application built by an external supplier. The web application is having performance issues (users requests take a long time to complete in some cases). I suspect, without having yet done an in-depth, analysis is that the web application is not well resolved/optimized/designed.

The declared owner of hardware requirements is exactly how Machine 2 is - dual quad core CPU. However - There's the rub: I did not understand if a single virtual machine running on this computer can actually use all the resources, particularly CPU resources, on the machine. And my application provider takes that position - since we have not met the minimum hardware requirements for the application, which can be the cause of the poor performance, which means that the seller has no responsibility for the performance issue.

I tried to understand/consider the Enterprise more than vSphere edition, because it seems possible that only this version of vSphere would allow me to assign all the hearts of all the processors from the server to the computer virtual one. However, this seems like overkill, and also, after some reading on the SMP of Enterprise Plus features, it seems, as using SMP can help in some cases and poorly in others.

Right now I'm looking to remove vmware Machine 2 and just install the application on the machine, in order to eliminate the possibility that vmware restricts the application to all physical resources (CPU). But I thought I'd ask a glimpse of this group first.

    Any input appreciated.

    Thank you

    Brad Harding

Each physical core (or "core" hyperthreading) is considered to be one vCPU. You will therefore 8 vCPUs in your system (assuming hyperthreading is not enabled). However, you can approve vCPU which means that you can run several virtual machines than available vCPUs. This is because you do not usually have the VMs that need all the power of the processor, and they can be used more efficiently with VMware planning the vCPUs.

  • Can satellite U400 - I switch to a quad core CPU?

    Hello

I recently bought a Satellite U400, and I was wondering if I could move the CPU on a quad core processor.

    * is it physically possible? that is, fit the plug? It seems that the Q9xxx and the T5750 share the same socket but maybe he ore other parameters to look for.
    * How can I check if the motherboard supports the Q9xxx? I should probably need a BIOS upgrade: what is the difference between a win32 and win64 bios? I could guess that has something to do with the target OS, but should I assume that the "win64" adapts to any OS 64-bit-ready (i.e. linux, * bsd)?
    * are there significant losses in the battery life?
    Thanks in advance

    > in any case, is there a way to check if the BIOS / motherboard supports a quad core CPU?
You will not find any information about the BIOS and CPU support on Toshiba pages.
The BIOS has been designed the U400 and CPU that is equipped with the U400 series.

I put t know which chipset your U400 is compatible but my U400 supports Intel GM965 chipset, and the Intel GM965 supports the same features as Intel PM965 chipset.
    http://www.Intel.com/assets/PDF/datasheet/316273.PDF

The Intel PM965 chipset supports the processor Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile for Mobile Intel 965 express chipset family.
The Quad core CPU is not mentioned. So, it seems that these processors are not supported!

  • Can games i run well with an a4 5000 quad core cpu AMD processor?

Hello, I have an aser aspire laptop e1 - 522 and I want to use it for some games. If everything is fine, I'll be able to get a gaming pc but if I usually I want to know this: I have an amd a4 5000 apu quad core cpu and it has 512 MB memory syestem grphics. I have also 4 GB of ram at 800 mhz. If I move to 8 GB 1600 mhz ram I'll be able to... play cod 4, 5, and 2 setting ultra 720 p (1080 p maby) at 40 to 60 fps. also I want to be able to play transformers wfc and jib to medium to low 720 p at 40-50 fps. my laptop apu can do with ram upgrade?

    Thank you.

Looks like your computer is more than capable of some great games. If you were to do something, my first upgrade would be to double your RAM 8 GB.

  • Quad core CPU in x230T?

I realize that even if it were possible, cooling would be the main problem. But I'm curious to know if, say, an i7-3612QM might work in the socket on the mobo. It is rated at 35W, just like the i5 - 3320 m currently installed in mine. Via Intel ARK, they should both work in the socket on motherboard of the x230T 988.

All X series ThinkPad, compressed or not, have the welded CPU on the card and not recessed them. This has been the case since the time of X 20, nearly 15 years ago.

So no, you can't swap the CPU unless you are in possession of re-balling appropriate as well as the skills to use it.

In addition, BIOS support for a quad-core processor must exist, which I doubt is the case on X series.

  • SOS - NVidia Chipset, Vista 64-bit, Intel Quad core CPU & > 4 GB RAM questions

    Hello!
One cannot explain the question about more than 4 GB of RAM, 64-bit Vista Ultimate, NVidia Chipset and Intel Core 2 Quad CPU.
I have a MSI P6N SLI Motherboard (NVidia Nforce 650i SLI Chipset) with 6 GB of RAM DDR2 800, Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU, 2 x GeForce 8600GT in SLI Mode.
32 bit Vista ultimate works fine with my PC, but whenever I try to install a 64-bit windows vista Ultimate Edition, a BSOD with the STOP error message is displayed. Not much happens if the RAM is reduced to 3 GB. The most strange, when I tried to install Windows 7 in this same configuration, there was no this problem.

    Kind regards...

    Hello

There is an error in timing known when installing Vista 64 bit on a system with all the ram slots 4 full on a card mother dual channel. It has nothing to do with the size of the total ram. The simple solution is to install x 64 with only the two bench 0 Visa slots filled, and then add the other two sticks back when the installation is complete. • Should I expect the 64-bit version of 32bitor for my Windows 7 Ultimate? I have a Quad Core CPU.

32 bit 64 bit. Windows 7 Ultimate. Quad Core Samsung.

In general, it is preferable to use the 64-bit version, unless there are some very special reasons of not (for example, a critical piece of hardware that offers only one driver 32-bit).   He runs the 32-bit software and also allow the possibility of using 64-bit programs.  The 64-bit version can support more RAM and provides a path for growth in the longer term.

None of these products you mention are actually of VMware Workstation for Windows.  You can also use the free VMware Player.  What you downloaded is a virtual disk file, not a virtual machine complete... but you can easily create a virtual machine and direct him to use the virtual disk file you downloaded, rather than create a new empty virtual disk (by default).  You will want to use the custom mode when you create a new virtual machine, not the wizard!

  • Multi-core CPU: this is an important factor?

    Hello

I guess the CPU multi-core is probably important. But is there a rule or guidelines? I would be grateful any entry about the experience of the use of multi-core processors in a virtual machine (as a workstation or server) environment. In all the scenarios below, we assume that the memory sharp and e/s disk are satisfactory. I would like to isolate the factor of the CPU.

Q1. A two CPU cores is equivalent to two physical CPU core?

Q2. Number of vs. frequency of the processor cores: which is more important to run VM? Example: 2 hearts to hearts vs 4 3 GHz to 2.33 GHz

Q3. How is the "engine" of the virtual machine using muti-core with regard to the number of virtual machines running? Is it true to say more "better cores?

Example 1: host has 4 cores of CPU 1, 2 running virtual machines (what a waste of CPU resources?)

Example2: host has 4 cores of the processor 1, 6 running virtual machines

Q4. (Phenom2, Core 2, Xeon, i7) CPU architecture: the "engine" of the VM uses these CPU everything too, or is there someone who is particularly well suited for running virtual machines?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Q1 - Yes - ESX/ESXi treat each heart as a logical processor and plan virtual processors to these logical processors

T2 - both are important - the vmkernel treats views CPU as a pool of cycles - 4 2.33 GHz is a pool of 9,32 GHz while 2 x 3 GHz is a pool of 6 GHz so as long as a virtual CPU has not a complete CPU - a virtual CPU can run on one heart at a time, so a 3 GHz core will be able to provide 3 GHz to a virtual computer

Q3 - Yes more cores is better - the 'VM engine' called the vmkernel will plan the virtual machines between all hearts - VMware recommended 4 to 8 virtual processors per core according to load - so a single quad core cpu can support 16 to 32 virtual processors according to the load

Q4 - he use them all as well - it will benefit from new technology of virtualization being in current technology chips.

  • Imitate the Quad Cores

    Hi all

I hope I have explained this properly... we're all here:

We were asked to bring a 2 pieces of software in our field who will sit to ESXi, but requires a QUAD Core processor each... If I allocate a vCPU to this distribution of stocks of high box will not imitate multi hearts it will be? This will allow only that he calls the time CPU. That Said if I can get a server with hyperthreading I could then put affinty cpu? and this would allow the software see 1 quad core cpu?

I hope I explained this corretly

Only closer image aping is assiging four vCPUs to VM - the ESX host sxhedules each vCPU core or Hyperthreaded if HT is enabled - which application is this > from my experience, I think you will find the application will be fine with a single vCPU.

  • Dual-Core or Quad core for 3 Mainstage

    Hello

I'd go with the quad core. MS will use as many hearts as you want. Simply enter the number in the Advanced preferences Audio settings. You can use all of them, although I've seen a few comments about letting a carrot or two open for the operating system and other processes on the computer. With the i7, there are also 4 virtual cores, so you will see 8 in preferences. I usually give 7 MS and leave an opening for the OS, but I didn't a lot of testing with this, while others may have more information about what I do.

Definitely go with 16 GB of ram. If you start using instruments of large sample, you will need. You can use aliases to manage memory more efficiently, but it is nice to have enough ram so that you do not have to worry not so much stuff like that. I use 5 Kontakt and EXS a bit and I would certainly hurt if I had only 8GB. Generally, I think that the required memory tend to go up, in order to have more ram will prolong the life of your computer. Unfortunately (and incredibly!) you can't add ram later, because I believe that the ram is soldered to the motherboard.

I am also a big fan of getting the biggest SSD (or all what they call the last storage solid-state on recent Macs) you can afford. You cannot replace this component on the newer models of MBP either, then you will be stuck with what you buy. Applications, sample libraries, plug-ins, etc, that all seem to grow in size over time and it's not funny if you run out of room.

    Good luck!
