Question about disk performancy system

Hello.

My situation: I have a virtual machine that contains the server to Oracle 10 g. It has an Intel Quad processor, 4 GB of RAM and SERIAL ATA drive. We have problems of serious performance with Oracle. Using statspack I found that the TOP 5 blocks contains sequential read and write parallel events with high expectations. Also, we run some benchmarks of performance, and they prove my suspicion: this disc is less than my home PC. Looks like we need to change our system of virtual disk. Material on which we run Vmware servers have the disk RAID offers great performance with system.

But! How do I system virtual disk speedup? I can't find anything useful in the preferences of virtual server...

Sorry for the stupid question if this is...

Thank you!

VMware Server was out of use for a long time. He never was not intended as a platform for production software and would not have been supported by VMware or Oracle as a platform for Oracle databases. The reasons for my being exactly the issues you see.

Your material seems he could suport ESXi running. http://VMware.com/go/ESXi I would check the HCL to make sure that your hardware is supported, including the network and disk controllers. http://VMware.com/go/HCL

ESXi is supported by VMware for running Oracle

  • Question about Vista performance on satellite Pro M70

I was wondering if anyone knew a lot about the performance of vista. For example, if you run a game under vista it run worse than in Xp because the operating system uses more than the power of the computer?

    Hello

For two weeks, I use Windows Vista on my Satellite Pro M70. The laptop is not Vista capable, but I am very satisfied. It works very well. I tried to install and play older games like Far Cry and IGI2. It works perfectly without any problems.

The set comes with 512 MB of RAM. As I said it works well, but I think that it will work much better with more RAM. I think I'll buy another 1 GB module. With 1.5 GB of RAM, I believe that the unit will operate like a rocket. :)

    Which laptop model you have?

  • Question about Tecra M4 system restore disks

I am looking to buy a Tecra M4. Toshiba provide a "correct" restoration method I have no problems with restore disks, but have had problems with windows restore sometimes. They provide a factory restore disc or I have to look at the creation of a Ghost disk.

I need to know just if I can start lookging for a good approx. ghosting before buying.

Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hi Robert,.

Portable Toshiba computers are sold with an OEM "bundle" of the software. This means that you will receive either a CD/DVD that contains an image that can be restored to the full version of the software, or a file preloaded on your laptop from which you can create your own drive can be restored.

This disk can only be used to completely restore your system to its original factory condition, and you cannot use it to selectively restore files or individual components.

You can also receive a tools and Utilities CD/DVD that contains specific Toshiba provided to public services.

If you want to create your own backup copy of your data/system files, then you will need to invest in one of the packages commercial (I use Acronis True Image myself) as well as an appropriate external environment (I use a USB hard drive).

Question: The cards need fast RAID when the flow of AVCHD is 3. 2 MB/s?    ?

I find it interesting that I spent $4K on a computer and I only make 2 layers of AVCHD in real-time (from reading of resolution 1/4). I am aware that my provider built computer is more expensive, but in return, I will say it is surprisingly quiet.  :-)

Should I wait for performance significantly more when I switch to the 980 x cpu and 24 GB of RAM? Maybe I owe OC my processor for best results, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to teach myself overclocking. (Anyone know of a person in the Phoenix area, AZ, who is skilled at overclocking)? I did not test PPBM5 I just want to get better performance for what I paid. Maybe my expectations are wrong?

I suggest that update you with the version of StorPort that is the improved version of the driver technology Microsoft.  SCSIport is what has been used for Windows XP.

  • Qosmio G30: A few questions about the performance of RAID-0

Hi all, this is my first post here, so please be gentle with me.

I read a lot of posts explaining how to configure striping RAID-0 (and pitfalls) but I've not found anything that describes the performance benefits. It would be great to hear from anyone who has implemented RAID-0, with before and after comparisons of speed.

    The system starts twice?
    Applications load significantly faster?
Is significantly faster when you save large files? Or is it simply not useful?

All information of those in the know would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you, Bob.

    Hello

I used the Qosmio G20 a few months ago and I used the operating system on the HARD drive with RAID (a visible HARD disk) and without RAID (two visible HDD)
I didn t notice any speed restrictions and the laptop starts at the same time.

But I noticed different results please share with us ;)

  • QUESTION ABOUT DISK DEFRAGMENTATION

My computer must be turned on when I do the program "Disk Defragmentation? It is planned to make the service on some time each month, however, I don't always have the computer at this time.

To do a disk defrag, your computer must be on a Buddha (not on standby).

If you have scheduled a moment when the computer is not on the value, it will not turn on your computer to do either.

Some computers have a program that you can use to set a date and once your computer turns on automatically. In most cases, this parameter can be set in a menu before loading the Windows operating system.

NOTE: Not all computers are built with this feature.

  • Satellite T110-121 - Question about disk and hard drive recovery

    Hello

I started to use my nice new Satellite T110-12. How can I create a recovery disc?

Why is there that a common message on the vibration has been detected, HDD head has been moved to a safe position? Is there something wrong? I would return it before the week is up?

Please answer, thanks a lot a lot!

    Hi LindaMon,

    > How to create a recovery disk?
What about reading your user manual?
You need a 8 GB USB key for the creation of a support recovery and preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.

    > head drive has been moved to a safe position?
Yes, that's normal and everything is ok with your laptop. Your HARD drive will be protected by HDD/SSD Alert utility which is a nice feature of Toshiba to avoid accidents of the head and can improve the lives of the internal HARD disk.
But yoou can disable these notifications if you want. ;)

  • Question about the operating system reinstall on Portege R500

I bought the version of 64SSD R500, and for some reason any that it struck me to check if there was a DVD player to this topic.

    It was rather annoying.

I know it's easy to buy an external drve to copy software etc on the Portege, so this isn't so bad.

However, I'm considering a re - install, possibly to XP, but maybe just to reduce the amount of repulsive of bloatware I had on my computer when I turned on.

Now to the crux of the matter: if I use an external USB drive, I need USB drivers. If I delete the operating system, which will remove the drivers.

Finally, my question is: how in the name of hell is someone supposed to put a new installation in a R500?

    Thank you for your patience.

I understand everything up to the point with the bloatware.

But what I Don t understand is: what do you want with a USB hard drive? I hope that you don t average a USB - HDD (it s a bit confusing). ;)

Usually, you can use all the drives without the need of some drivers because the machine offers you the ability to boot from a USB device after switching on of the machine and see the Toshiba logo...
You need only press F12 and select the option to boot from an external USB CD/DVD drive. That's all.

  • simple question about the performance of views

I have a discussion of work (battle) with several developers about the misuse of the views. Basically, they want to do a load of remote data to the server using views. Its code is from a full view and join between views by using all kinds of methods, such as LEFT OUTER, DECODE, etc.. I don't think that's right, I know that they must use the procedures to extract information and transform into tables and loading (ETL). But sometimes I'm new on the job and I have all the arguments so that they believe me, in my opinion as the join of all these points of view produces less than optimal. I think it is correct to consult to see if I'm right or wrong.

    Thank you.

You are right. A view is a query online. Why anyone would add this to an ETL process?

Avoid as much as possible the views and use SQL statements to query the tables directly.

(I wonder if they like paying anything?)

Views are likely to require analysis that cause performance problem.

Views can result in countless columns returned when all you really need are some of these columns.

The best way to win this (fight) is to offer to write the SQL code for them.

A little explains plans before and after will not hurt either.

  • Questions about the views system...

    Hello

    (1) why this 2 queries are not similar?

    Select count (*) from SAMPLE_TABLE;
    Select num_rows from user_all_tables where table_name = 'SAMPLE_TABLE. "

    (2) in the views system, I can learn about primary piece?

    (3) where I can the description of each of the views system and what information it contain?

    Best.

    (a) the statistics in views because _TABLES are only updated when you calculate freshly statistics, while the number of rows in a table established by count (*) is dynamic and always up-to-date.
    (b) what do you know about primary keys? The columns that make up their, for example? USER_CONSTRAINTS where constraint_type = 'P' will tell you what primary key constraints exist and the indexes are used to enforce them. You can then do a query of USER_INDEXES and USER_IND_COLUMNS to work on the columns are part of these indices, where they are stored and so on.
    (c) the official documentation lists each view (see part II of this page, for example: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/toc.htm)

  • Satellite P200-1FZ: Question about Vista performance index?

I recently bought a P200D-128 announced as having 256 MB of memory graphic dedicated only to find only has a HD2400 with 128 MB card (the name must have been an idea, I know).

I was looking for a model with 256 MB I had read that it was recommended for good graphics performance in Vista.
On the P200-128 model Vista performance index showed:

    Processor: 4.8
    Memory: 5.9
    Graphics: 3.3
    Games graphics: 3.7
    Hard drive: 5.2

If the overall score of 3.3 seems not be limited by the graphics performance.

I now plans to upgrade this model to a P200-1FZ (which has a HD2600 with 256 MB memory card), but would like to know if it significantly improves the score of graphics and Vista performance index.

If anyone has this model (or a relative) and could tell me the VEI score, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Just FYI: I Satellite P200D-111 with ATI Mobility Radeon X 2600 almost 5 months now. I use Vista Home Premium and to be honest, I'm quite satisfied with the performance of Vista. Up to now, I also tested with several games such as Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4, El Matador and older games like FarCry and Max Payne 2 WXP. It works perfectly.

I like Call of Duty 4. He funs all simply fantastic. I do not even use complete running. At the moment I think to upgrade RAM to have better running OS. in the end, I can say one thing: for the reasonable price, I have large notebook.

    Good bye

  • Question about the performance of the battery on the Satellite L-30

I barely an hour out of a fully charged battery, even with WiFi off and turned down screen brightness. With WiFi on I have the chance to get 45 minutes. The model # is PA3450U-1BRS battery & is allegedly 2000mAh.

I got about 1h15m with WiFi and normal brightness. I had the same battery, but I bought a new one (4400mAh), now I get about 2h45m. But the 45 minutes sounds very bad. Maybe your battery is bad.

  • A few questions about Toshiab reocvery disk for Satellite P300-133

    Hello guys,.
I had a few questions about unpleasant surprises of recovery:

(* 1) * I just make recovery DVD using Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator and he asked initially for 2 DVDs - but when one has been done it does not require a second blank DVD. Is it possible all the Windows Vista system files to write on 1 DVD?

(* 2) * if I could reinstall Windows Vista using recovery of HARD drive option (by pressing F8) without using the recovery DVD?

(* 3) * HARD drive partitions that will be formatted (just system C: or C: and E :) using HARD drive recovery?

(* 4) * what is DVD - Image of the hard drives or the installation of Vista recovery files?

Its pretty bad idea to not include BONES on DVD when I paid for it.
Thanks for all the Toshiba problems :(

    1. I think the recovery disk creator means 2 CDs. I also have a Portege M700 with Windows Vista and a DVD. I got it and after that, I have a clean install of Vista with all the drivers and tools of Toshiba. Nothing is missing.

    2. Yes, you can reinstall Vista using recovery of HARD drive option when you press F8 at startup. You don't need the recovery DVDs, but you should create a when your HARD drive get some errors or something else. If you need a new recovery DVDs, you paid for one.

3 HARD drive and complete partitions will be formatted, so backup your data first on a DVD disk external DRIVE, USB stick or something else.
After the reinstallation, you have factory settings.

    4. the recovery DVDs is an image of the HARD disk on the factory settings. If you perform a recovery, there are all the drivers and tools are already installed. Of course, on the disk are files of installations of Vista, but you can use this DVD on your Satellite P300. The disc cannot be used on another Satellite or on a PC.

If you have any other questions, take a look in the user manual. There are a number in the formations of the recovery. It s in Chapter 3.

  • Question about the construction of cube / query performance (11.2.0.3)

Hi, I have a stupid question on the performance of cube generation. By choosing the precalc %, is linear (or nearly linear) construction time to that? for example if you select 10% going to be 3 times faster than the selection of 30%? Also, is it fair to assume that if only 10% of the values are precalculated, an average end-user queries have to hit 3 times more data and therefore be about 3 times slower?

Sorry, this on a virtual computer on your laptop, so test different configs build takes forever (I still have a load of cube really complete). Guess I should not be trying a cube Sun 15 on a virtual computer on your laptop, but trying to sell a DBA on the fact that she could improve the performance of our mini - DW.

    Thank you
    Scott

Aggregation based on costs (aka "Pre-computes percent") was introduced in 11.1 as a simpler alternative based on the level of aggregation. Product management dream was a linear parameter, but the complexity is quickly apparent. Which could measure the linearity against? The generation time? Time of the query? Total size of the disk? The result the balances of all of these factors, but is linear against any of them. Fortunately, behavior level percentage precompute was fairly consistent between cubes and patterns in our experience, so I can give you a rough characterization. But keep in mind that this is a guide only - you have to experience on your own scheme and a system to see what works for you. In particular, you must balance your own requirements on construction time, time of the request and the disk size.

    * 0% *-this means no precomputation at all, so all data access will be dynamic. This is the recommended setting for the top of the page partition of a cube. If, for any reason, you want to use for the scores of leaves as well, then I advise you pass a cube uncompressed.

    * 1% *-he pre-computes the smallest part of the cube that is allowed by the algorithm and would take certainly greater than 1% of the time taken by an accumulation of 100%. For partitions of leaves, it is usually best to increase the amount because you'll get much better query response time for not much more profitable in terms of disc size and the generation time. It may be a good level for the top of the page partition of a cube, but should be used with caution because the top of the page scores are often too big to pre-computes.

    * 2%-19% *-these levels does not seem to be a lot of benefits since the amount of time and the total size of the disk is almost identical to a construction of 20%, but queries are slower.

    * 20%-50% *-this range is probably the best compromise in terms of construction compared to the time of the query. The default value of the AWM is 35%, which is a good starting point. Lower it to 20% if you want a faster version and get up to 50% if you want to replace the faster queries. The setting is close to linear in this interval than outside it.

    * 51%-99% *-you should probably avoid these levels, although I've seen 60% used in practice. The reason is that while the size of the cube and the length of the construction increase rapidly, the queries do not receive proportionally faster. Indeed, you may find that queries are slower because the code spends more time swapping in the pages of the disc.

    * 100% *-this will be pre-computes all (non-NULL) cells in the cube. It may be a surprise after my advice about 51%-99%, but 100% is a reasonable level to choose. This is because the code is much simpler when you know that everything is precalculated and then stored in the disk pages.
