  I hear the new ATI drivers are finally out with good support of OpenGL for Vista. But again, I can only find the NVIDIA drivers on my laptops driver page. The thing was where before ATI offered to consumers that they stopped now with her again and point of Toshiba. Toshiba does not put them online and or not ATI.

  Any ideas how I can also enjoy new 7.4 or at least those with OpenGL drivers good support so I can finally use this book where I bought it for (graphic work for my studies, we use a lot of OpenGL).

  I just hope that Toshiba allows ATI to include their laptops in the reference ATI Mobility drivers.

  Well, I asked ATI about this and they say I have should you mail, msg, pressure, etc to suport my material, or at least that it is supported by Catalyst Mobility. Which means that you can get at the moment their reference drivers. Which I think would be fair, because for now I can get the drivers for Nvidia this mobile version.

  Yes, you are right, that for Vista ATI display drivers are not placed on the page of the Toshiba driver.

  As indicated by the user lorelei, you should always use the graphics driver from Toshiba.
  Other graphics drivers are not recommended because the risk to damage the graphics card.
  The Toshiba graphics drivers are changed. The drivers supports protection against overheating, given that the graphics cards on laptop don t use a clean cooling. Therefore, the driver is responsible for the execution. If the temperature rises the drive decreases the performance of the card to make low temp.

  Please don't get me wrong but these assignments are pretty bad and read this description of a single sentence, no one can understand your real problem. Your model of laptop is quite old and I wonder which LAN driver you used until now.

  I also wonder what operating system you are using. Why don't you use no recovery image to install OS? This recovery image contains good driver LAN.

  Can you also explain what you mean with it does not work? Can install you it properly? You have problem to connect to the local network.

  If the driver update is a solution to some problems (which you probably do) then try to update.

  Note: If you want to update BIOS please check if the BIOS is designed for you notebook series. Bad BIOS and bad BIOS update procedure can and does not damage the jury!

• Question about upgrading CPU for Satellite A30 104?

  My Satellite A30 104 recently came at the end of its warranty and had to open the heatsink for cleaning, and seeing that the CPU was available, I wonder if there should be (likely) to upgrade.

  The processor is a Celeron 2.6 GHz (Northwood). I'm no more grunt, I would prefer a more low-power chip, while the cache L2 much bigger of a Pentium 4 is also desirable.   The heat and the temperature inside the laptop could be a serious problem.

• Question about extension USB for Satellite L30-105

  Just ordered a L30-105, but have you noticed that there are only 2 USB ports. Is it possible to increase this via a card extension (or any other solution!)?

  Because I have broadband via USB, an optical mouse, 2 printers, external hard drive (for music - pictures etc) and a photo card reader, it looks like I can have lost a decent amount of money by buying the L30-105.

  Unfortunately, the only one in which you can add additional USB ports is to use a hub powered of some sort to increase the number of USB ports available. Using a powered hub will ensure that your USB devices all receive enough power to function properly.

  You might also consider a PCMCIA interface card that will provide two ports USB, but this will obviously prevent you to use your PC for other purposes. I just use a map on my A30 from time to time.

• Question about drive HARD on Satellite L300 recovery

  Buy laptop 3 months ago, my son's homework top (40 pages). Laptop has suddenly stopped working. When I try to boot to the top he tries to boot the laptop into repair mode, load files, will load vista then I do gray screen saying (system recovery options) installed program cannot start turn off computer.

  Didn't create Toshiba Recovery disk called received set loaded file, it comes finally to a point where them continue it will erase all data on disk. Which is what I don't want. Then takes the disc, but it had loaded enough drivers to allow me to take a look in the back. When I look for drive C, return with an unreadable messagesaying. When I look in the D drive and there are files including a saying HARD drive recovery. (I guess that vista automatically disk partitions)

  In all cases any suggestions? There is a single file that I need, which is a document works (wps). Is there anyway I can retrieve the d ' training in HARD drive through back recovery? any suggestions?
  If I run the recovery disk it delete both partitions or just work on C:, then through D: I maybee able to recover the document?

  This means that you have tested safe mode?
  You can start a computer laptop in safe mode?

  If your work is saved on partition D, you can start recovery facility (F8 fix my computer) and Vista will install again, but all the data saved on the D partition will be there again.

  I want to make an extension of memory, but I'm not sure whether this is necessary. Do you reccoment to update the bios anyway?

  Yes, it's the good BIOS because it s also for your model (Satellite 2450-101).

  A BIOS update is an upgrade of RAM is not necessary. The BIOS has nothing to do with the maximum RAM capacity.

  -It s too expensive
  -It s complicated Exchange when you´re no technician for laptop
  -you won´t win any show (especially when the performance vs price comparison)

  Instead update your RAM and your HARD drive since that these components are comp. evolutionary and better will give you better performance.

  I just bought an M70-337 and the Toshiba site I noticed that there is an update of the BIOS - my current v1.3 to v1.4. Several things occurred to me - mainly centering around me after spending 3 days Exchange my sytems to a new computer: -.

  I've never updated a BIOS before.
  I've heard that it can be potentially disastrous
  So it is worth risking 3 days for an update that is perhaps not necessary?
  I downloaded the bios file - 130win.zip - is it just a matter of installing the program in the same way, install other Windows programs?
  Or I'd be suspicious?

  Anyone know? or have experience of updating a BIOS through Windows?

  Hi Alan,

  As your say quite rightly, BIOS updates can be disastrous if something should go wrong with the process.

  I wouldn't recommend that you try to update the BIOS unless it is absolutely necessary in order to correct some of the problems you are having with your laptop. The usual reason for an update of the BIOS under production to fix a bug identified in the previous version, is to provide new functionality/pick-up load of new devices or operating system settings. If you have no problems with you laptop, then I would leave well alone and run with the BIOS that is already installed.

  The M70 is a very nice unit and I don't know of existing bugs or updates that are essential for this. Take advantage because it's :-)

  It could pass the Sat A30-303 with the Wireless LAN PA3212U-1MPC card.
  It is an Intel 2100 Pro minPCI wireless network card that supports the 802. 11b standard.

  But to be honest, I prefer the external solution like WLan USB stick.
  You know that, sometimes, some compatibility problem between the wireless network card and the WLan router might appear. In my opinion it is much easier to test and remove the external USB WLAN as a wireless network card internal minPCI.
