Question about the cmdlet set-hard drive

Hi out there,.

I would like to move a group of new data warehouses vmdk using the cmdlet set-hard drive.

But I want to start moving just a svmotion operation at a time.

How could I get the id of the task of the vcenter svmotion operation initiated by game-hard drive, so that I can use wait-job to wait to complete the svmotion operation to start the following?

any idea of... tips are welcome...

Hello

Welcome to the VMware communities.

The cmdlet Set - hard drive doen't have a parameter - RunAsync, as for example, the Move-VM cmdlet. This means that the each hard drive Set command must finish before the next command can begin. To this effect, you don't have to perform the synchronization of tasks yourself when you use the cmdlet Set-hard drive.

Best regards, Robert

I have tryied somehow different to specify the disk hard but without success... always get these errors of messages...

    any help, please.

The cmdlet Set-HDD wants something, such that returned by Get - hard drive to the hard drive setting.

Easier is to use the pipeline (see also example 1 on the hard disk-Get help).

    get-disk hard - vm xxx_teco | where {$_.} {Name - eq ' Hard disk 2 "} | whole-disk hard-capcity 10485760

    Boulbar

    Hello

    I'll try to provide answers.
    > I wanted to record video data on D: and was surprised to find some hdd files and folders reverie about it.
The same situation is on all laptops come with HARD drive recovery image. Recovery image is saved in the folder called HDDRecovery. It is recommended to create recovery DVDs using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator. When the recovery DVD is created, you can delete these files and use of recovery DVDs for the operating system installation.
Otherwise the partitions are large enough, and you should leave this file here. Just define it as hidden and you won't.
    > Again, I have a small partition hidden and thought that hard drive recovery waas on that.
This small partition has nothing to do with the Toshiba recovery image. Recovery image Toshiba is large enough and cannot be saved on small partition.
    > When restart us computer after pressing F8, is associated with the files to D: or hidden partition recovery option.
They are related to the folder HDDRecovery and recovery stored image. When you delete drive recovery option HARD is no longer available.

What I'll do with the hidden partition of Windows Vista that is used for the start?
Is it possible to ignore it?

    Any suggestions?

    > What should I do with a hidden partition in Windows Vista that is used for the start?
The hidden partition is needed for the repair of the system!
If something goes wrong with the system, Vista would be able to repair the system using the files from the hidden partition.
The Vista operating system creates this partition automatically during the installation of the OS!

After you change the HARD drive, just start using the Toshiba and Vista recovery disk should create the partitions and must run the installer automatically

  • Libretto U100: Question about upgrade 60 GB HARD drive

    Sorry about that...

I gave a number of price and the part for an UPGRADE to my MEMORY *(NOT THE HARD DISK) * 512 to 1 GB part number: KTT3311/1 G of OFFTEK. I hope this is the correct number of memory for the U100 with part number in my previous message.

Looking for the number of the hard disk.

    What I found was a * HD 60GB 2.5 "8 MB 5400 RPM - part of Sweety: MK6034GAX * for £29,19 INC VAT. From DABS.com
Is that the correct HD at this price? The cost of £80 - £100 elsewhere.

Therefore, the upgrade from a 30 to 60 GB HD that I am looking for the part number for.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for any help, a contributor can offer.

    Hello

You can use the modules of memory from different manufacturers. Only the specifications of memory are important! Compatible modules are DDR2-400/333 PC2700.

If you want you can also use these modules from Toshiba:
    512 MB (PA3412U - 1 M 51)
    1024MB (PA3313U-2M1G)

You know this site of memory? :
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=31679&ft=m&St=3

You will also find compatible modules from Kingston.

    With regard to the drive HARD;
Well, the price of HARD drive are different. It's not easy to tell if the price is too high or not. It depends on many factors such as; place of purchase, dealer, country, etc.

The Libretto U100 was delivered with a 60GB drive HARD IDE (ATA-6).
You can use every HARD disk that supports the specifications of this!

So just google for the best offer or contact the ASP in your country to order a new HARD disk that is compatible.

  • Equium A60-157: Question about maximum size of HARD drive

    Hello

Looking to upgrade my Pentium 4 3.06GHz Equium A60-157 a bit then got a new module of 1024 MB of RAM, but now really to upgrade my 40 gb HDD to go with. I found all the specifications of the type of HARD drive, I need, but may not know what the maximum size of the disk, it is that the BIOS will recognize. I don't think that I've never updated by the BIOS and I'm looking to get a 120 GB drive. Any ideas please?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Alex,

Most portable smanufactured in the last 5 years or so are able to accept larger hard drive capacity without problem. I am currently using a 80 GB drive in an old SA30 of three years. I can't guarantee a 120 GB drive will work, but I see no reason why it wouldn't.

  • A few questions about the defrag and hard space as I get a notification saying my hard disk space became full of drive

I have problems with my hard drive. I got a notification saying that my hard disk space became full. So I cleaned a lot of programs and files of the irrational. I've freed almost half of it. Then I had another notification a few days later and realized that I had less than 1 GB of free space on my hard drive 600 g. I cleaned more and went to defragment my disk. It is set on a calendar, but I don't think that he has never been defragmented. He ran for about 2.5 days until the cord is unplugged and the battery is dead at 91% consolidated. Do I have to start again and wait again 2.5 days before I little hard drive space open? Or progress in the early days of 2.5 will remain défragmentée? In addition, defrag and do a disk cleanup will stop my hard drive to fill almost instantly after deleting and uninstalling programs? I'm running out of things to remove and I am a full-time student full and really need a computer in operation, please help!

Defragmentation is complete, will continue from the left point last time. Therefore, if you raise, he will continue that 91 percent (of course, it will start from 0%, but the scan will go up that 91% and continue with the rest of the space on the hard disk, that 91% of surface of the hard drive has been defragmented already).

Yes, you can delete all the files inside the Temp folder. TEMP folder is a temporary storage place used by some programs to temporarily store the files/folders. Some programs remove the files/folders after working, but some retain them, causing space problems.

You can use disk cleanup, on occasion, to delete unnecessary files from the hard drive.

I then added an indicator of persistence, but he then requested a flag of data store.  I added that, and then he said: there is no positional parameter to False.

I'm starting think it that the - confirm flag is broken, but I would get a few additional entries.  Thanks for your help.

    I think you should use

    Get-disk hard - vm $hostname | where {$_.name - eq 'Disk 1'} | Together-hard drive - CapacityKB $value - confirm: $false

Here's how to pass a value to a switch parameter.

If you have a gap between the two, the cmdlet will be interpreted as a new value of the parameter ($false in this case), but he does not know what parameter value should go.

  • Question about the cmdlet Get-VIProperty (ideally oriented @ LucD)

    Hello everyone

Sorry for the title of discussion, but once you read on you will understand where I come from.

I am reorganizing ALL my scripts powercli, functions, advanced et al. to TRY to become more 'effective' (dare I say) in my script. So to start I thought useful the cmdlet "Get-VIProperty" has been and I wanted to use much more. Did some autour research and found a great download LucD had prepared on his blog of a variety of different VIProperties. Directed practice how they were immediately started to use what he blogged about his position.

My question is this (and its powershell probably more than PowerCLI "maybe"): when I am trying to add in the VIProperties in my "profile (so they load into a starting window of console PS) I go in the following example:

    New-VIProperty - ObjectType Cluster - name _NumberOfVmotions-value {param ($cluster) $cluster. ExtensionData.Summary.NumVmotions} - Force

It works when entered in a session of PS, however, when I load the following:

    New-VIProperty-name _NumCPU - ObjectType Cluster - value {$TotalPCPU = 0 $Args [0] |} Get-VMHost | foreach {$TotalPCPU += $_.} {NumCPU} $TotalPCPU}-Force

However, when I load it as follows:

    New-VIProperty-name _NumCPU - ObjectType Cluster

    -Value {}

    $TotalPCPU = 0

    $Args [0] | Get-VMHost | {foreach}

    $TotalPCPU += $_. NumCPU

    }

    $TotalPCPU

    } - Force

    THIS WORKS.

I know this may sound pedantic, but I would like to organize my viproperties like below, so they are a little more clear on the page. That is why the requirment to see if the above commands could be executed as 'one-liners ':

    # NumberOfHosts

    New-VIProperty - ObjectType Cluster - name ' _NumberOfHosts

    -The value {param ($cluster) @($cluster.) {Extensiondata.Host). County} - BasedOnExtensionProperty 'To host' - Force

    # NumberOfVMs

    New-VIProperty - ObjectType Cluster - name ' _NumberOfVMs

    -The value {param ($cluster)($cluster.)} Extensiondata.Host | % {Get-view $_} | Measure-object - InputObject {$_.} Vm.Count} - sum). Sum} '

    -BasedONextensionProperty 'host' - Force

So if it's not possible it's fine - I just wanted to be able to confirm, it's all.

As usual, thank you very much in advance for help

    Concerning

    Munster99

If you want to add two other PowerShell/PowerCLI commands on a single line, you must use the semicolon to separate them:

    New-VIProperty-name _NumCPU - ObjectType Cluster - value {$TotalPCPU = 0; $Args [0] |} Get-VMHost | foreach {$TotalPCPU += $_.} NumCPU}; $TotalPCPU} - force

  • Satellite A60-131: Question about upgrade RAM and HARD drive

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 S-131, bought 2 years ago.
I want to know is it possible for me to upgrade (internal) for a superior ability to HDD 40 GB HARD drive and update my RAM to 512 MB on the rise.

Also I already inserted a 256 MB DDR RAM in the empty memory slot almost 1 year ago.

    Help will be appreciated.

    Hi Pranjal,

You can definitley upgrade your hard drive for a larger version. You should find that a 80 or 100 GB will work fine. You should make sure that you get you a new disc with the same physical characteristics as you existing. The following link will help you remove the hard drive.
    http://irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaA65/satA65_1.htm

You can also get a new hard drive with a more rapid rotation speed (5400 RPM or 7200 RPM).

I think that the maximum RAM for the A60 is 1.25 GB which includes 1 X fixed module (I presume yours is 256 MB, which means that you can install an additional module with a capacity up to 1 GB. Available in capacities of 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB of RAM modules.

Anyone out there who would try to open their laptop Toshiba Satellite A50, what type of RAM and hard disk of brand you all have inside?
All the portable toshiba comes with Toshiba RAM and hard drive?

    Hello

As far as I know the Satellite A50 uses DDR PC2700 modules. These modules must be compatible:
    PC2700 256 MB (PA3311U - 1 M 25)
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 1 M 51)
    1024MO PC2700 (PA3313U-1M1G)

There are different models of Satellite A50, but I think that there should be a drive HARD IDE(ATA-6) 60 GB 4200 RPM with 8 MB buffer size.

  • Satellite A100-906: Question on the processor and HARD drive temperature

    Hey guys,.

I want to ask u for the level of normal temperature of this laptop? I want to know the temperature of the CPU (1,2) and the temperature of the HARD drive, because I think that my laptop is overheating and it is a problem for me :/ (my temperature is now around 50 for the 2 hearts and nearly 40 for hard disk) Is this ok or? Ty ;)

    Hello

Believe me, the 50 degrees C for the CPU and C 40 degrees for the disk HARD is a normal temperature! It's rare!
On my laptop the CPU temperature increases up to 60 degrees C if no application works.

But be aware that the temperature varies.
If you run different applications on the laptop, the performance of the processor will be increased and the temperature rises.
    That is a fact.

There is nothing wrong GUY ;)

  • question about a new external hard drive partitioning

I just bought a TB G-Technology G 4 USB 3.0 drive to replace my old Lacie which is way to small.  It has served me well.

I Google search on the net and research here in the discussions, I should create partitions, and if so, how, a few observations are in each article thread or by email.  A reason to partition (actually more than one partition) is so we can have a section for our time Machine backups, and for a section where we want to save our data backup and one for our user data?  I have not seen a clear statement on what might be the 'data', or what might be the 'user data '.  And if the time machine is backed up, is it NOT back up my data files?

In order to unravel how the partitions I should create in my 4 TB Ex HD, can someone help me better understand what I should and should not save in time machine?  And if I choose to NOT include it in my Time Machine backup, why would I use a partition do it to, in order to save manually?  I do not pretend that it sounds stupid, I'm not clear on what 'it' is and what info I use to make the best decision for my use.

Thanks a lot for any wisdom you could share with me.

    Michelle

Have a Time Machine backup partition on the same drive as your data is a stupid backup plan. Since the main cause of data loss is disk failure to have the backup on the same disk as the means of data when the wrong road, you lose everything.

At Time Machine backup. You never know what data you will lose.

I suggest that you give up your plan to make the Time Machine backups on the same drive as the data. You need another player for that.
