Question of WLC4400 of design.

We will deploy lwapp APs and WLC4400. My question is every lwapp is on different sunbet and WLC4400 is also a different subnet, but these are connected switch L3 can inter VLAN routing. These APs lwapp and the WLC4400 can communicate with each other, if not nesseary for configure the VLAN (like adding interface ap - manager) by subnet on WLC4400? Subnet is different, but all the same SSID. LWAPP already has a static ip address.

Hi Yong,

You must ensure that your LWAPP AP can get an ip address of management controller so that they can join your controller. If they are in the different subnet of your management on your AP controller interface must have an ip address of the management interface on controller via DHCP or DNS or via OTAP.

Also you must have at least one interface ap - manager.

    Hi Forum,

I am right now with the implementation of a virtual wireless LAN controller in one of our customers environment.

Customer is facing several problems and I'm not sure how to solve them - then maybe the supportforum could give me answers or advice.

(1.) the client complains about not being able to see several ports on the vWLC when you implement a second vNIC in VMWare (via the show summary of the vWLCs CLI port command). According to my understanding of the vWLC always show only a 'physical' port and interfaces n (depending on how many interfaces is created on the vWLC) - mapping is accomplished through the vWLC - so basically as that administrator we are not able to see the exact mapping and always only a single port "physical"?

(2.) the customer was told that the vWLC essentially works except the bypass between the tunnel CAPWAP for VMWare to the router - I'm not sure what he means by that, but I guess it has something to do with the marking of the dynamic interfaces / VLAN to the ESX and later of the ESX via vNIC to the vWLC - advice? (Please take account also details of design of question 3)

3.) is it ok to TAG all the VLAN via a vNIC without using the service port? I mean create a vNIC transporting and marking of the management and the VLAN database? Or is it mandatory to separate the management of data using a dedicated with the service port subnet VLANS? Suggestions for best practice to get the job of controller - especially on the part of VMWare?

If you need further details please do not hesitate to ask

    Kind regards

    Christian

You are right, you can mark the VLAN for management and data is not required to use the service port. You're management interface will also be Manager AP interface on what APs registry. You can not have 2 management. You can have 1 management officially and 1 for the AP Manager.

Internal DHCP on vwlc is not supported. You need to do a dhcp relay. If you need more information let me know.

    Thank you

  • Question/security of network design

I would like to get opinions on the design of a network of our ESX host.  We have a couple of the main areas of ESX, each with 10 physical network interface cards.  We have the following in our environment:

-iSCSI and NAS storage (so two cards NETWORK is for IP storage)

-2 separate networks for virtual machines - 1 for admin interfaces (not for users) and the other for servers in production (for users)

    Current configuration is:

2 NICs (SC and admin VMs)

    2 NICs (IP storage)

    2 NICs (vMotion)

3 NETWORK interface cards (Production Server virtual machines)

I would like opinions on how course of a facility that is.  Is it a question of having the SC share a vSwitch with the VMs admin?  They are on the same VLAN physical.   We do not control the switches, is not really an option to configure the VLANS on switches.  Thank you.

    Hello

Thank you.  I think that I can not have explained myself quite clearly.  I was not suggesting put Admin VMs and the connections on the same vSwitch as the Production Server VMs.  On the contrary, I was concerned by the SC being on the same vSwitch as the VMs Admin, I do not think that it is a good practice to.  In our environment, we have a single subnet for all virtual machines, separated into 2 subnets on the physical switches.  We do not use (or want to use) VLAN tagging on the vSwitches.  There is the firewall between each of our VLAN.  So, the admin VMs are separated from the VLAN Production by a firewall.  My real question is the size of a security problem for the SC and the admin virtual machines to share a vSwitch if they already share a physical network?  We do not have the ability to create a separate network or VLAN just for traffic SC.  Our environment now looks like this:

Because they already share the same physical network sharing the same vSwitch is not a huge or any concerns. Consider the vSwitch another part of your administrative network. The best practice is to put all the management servers and virtualization workstations within the same firewall network. You have done this.

-natachasery 2-SC & admin VM network (local network VIRTUAL 0 192.168.15.0/24)

Works for me. I often use the Administrative VMS and place them on the vSwitch with the SC. After all they are using the same network and the vSwitch is just another part of the Web of network switch.

    -3 natachasery - Prod VM network (VLAN 1 192.168.15.0/24)

Not sure I would use 3 but I leave that to you.

    -2 natachasery - VMKernel & SC (10.10.1.0/8)

It passes through security zones. I would use rather your firewall administration to fill ports of CHAP protocol between IP storage network and the administrative network. What you have is a common, but not the safest practice you have now 2 attack points in the service console of administration network and from the network of IP storage. This could include the possibility of virtual computers that use iSCSI initiators. Because everything you need is to have the SC participate for CHAP (whether you use it or not), you can easily use your existing administrative firewall to do this. You may need to fix things up a bit to within your network to make this happen, but it would be how I would address this possible security problem.

    -2 natachasery-vMotion (172.16.32.0/16)

    Sounds good.

It would be useful to create a fifth vSwitch just to house the VMs admin, so that they do not share a vSwitch and natachasery with SC?

    Not really. Same Security Zone.

When I check your code in Firefox tools, there is an overflow: hidden from somewhere. There are actually twoelements in the dev tool inspect element option. One seems to be from the script of modernizr on line 32.

Since then, the program appears to have been uninstalled. I have the disc and the serial number then tried to reinstall, but am more often fooled by the instructions, and when, at the end of the process, I was invited to sign up for a 30 day trial, I gave up. • Question of OSB and design of server SOA (Ombudsman)

As the OSB of strategic BSE and is used for external services does make sense that all communication must go out by the OSB.
For example if I have a request that comes in is routed through the OSB and called then a composite of backend that contains a BPEL located on the server Oracle SOA calling multiple services outside (CRM, SAP etc...) Would all calls outside the BPEL then return to the OSB and external services (via proxy/serv.) This seems to add many network stretches to the overall architecture.
I can't really find a diagram to explain this, but a consumer of external services can call stack Oracle SOA coming in through the OSB (for the security such as OWSM gateway 11 g does not support bridge yet.) Then turns into CDM and then transmitted to the Oracle SOA server which has a composite service with BPEL, which manages several calls to internal and external services. Those external requiring a transformation back into the format of service providers.
    How does this flow?

OSB is to inter connectivity between SOA Suite Composites. Mediator of the Oracle is intra SOA Composites, for example work and mediation within a Composite of SOA services.

For your use case, you're right about incoming messages to get out messages they also come out through the OSB to map the CDM of the customer specifications.

-How migrate virtual switchs distint to vswitch0 (in each ESX server has 3 vswitches and the installation wizard of VMS only migrate vswicht0)?? for example others vswitchs with others vlan.. please tell me how...

[Robert] After your initial installation you can easily migrate all VMs within the same vSwitch Port Group at the same time using the Network Migration Wizard.  Simply go to Home - Inventory - Networking, right click on the 1000v DVS and select "Migrate Virtual Machine Networking..."   Follow the wizard to select your Source (vSwitch Port Groups) & Destination DVS Port Profiles

-With VUM (vmware update manager) is possible install VEM modules in ESX Servers ??? or must install VEM manually in each ESX Server?

[Robert] As per the Getting Started & Installation guides, you can use either VUM or manual installation method for VEM software install.

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_0_4_s_v_1_3/getting_started/configuration/guide/n1000v_gsg.html

-Supposing of VUM install all VEM modules, the VEM version (vib package) is automatically compatible with build existen vmware version?

[Robert] Yes.  Assuming VMware has added all the latest VEM software to their online repository, VUM will be able to pull down & install the correct one automatically.

-is need to create PACKET-MANAGEMENT-CONTROL port groups in ALL esx servers before to migrate to Nexus 1000? or only VEM installation is enough???

[Robert] If you're planning on keeping the 1000v VSM on vSwitches (rather than migrating itself to the 1000v) then you'll need the Control/Mgmt/Packet port groups on each host you ever plan on running/hosting the VSM on.  If you create the VSM port group on the 1000v DVS, then they will automatically exist on all hosts that are part of the DVS.

-According to the Cisco manuals VSM can participate in VMOTION, but, how? .. what is the recommendation?..when the primary VMS is moving, the secondary VSM take control?? that occurs with connectivity in all virtual machines?

[Robert] Since a VMotion does not really impact connectivity for a significant amount of time, the VSM can be easily VMotioned around even if its a single Standalone deployment.  Just like you can vMotion vCenter (which manages the actual task) you can also Vmotion a standalone or redundant VSM without problems.  No special considerations here other than usual VMotion pre-reqs.

-When there two clusters in one vmware vcenter, how must install/configure VSM?

[Robert] No different.  The only consideration that changes "how" you install a VSM is a vCenter with multiple DanaCenters. VEM hosts can only connect to a VSM that reside within the same DC.  Different clusters are not a problem.

-For High Availability concepts, wich is the best choices of design of nexus? considering vmware features (FT,DRS, VMOTION, Cluster)

[Robert] There are multiple "Best Practice" designs which discuss this in great detail.  I've attached a draft doc one on this thread. A public one will be available in the coming month. Some points to consider is that you do not need FT.  FT is still maturing, and since you can deploy redundany VSMs at no additional cost, there's no need for it.  For DRS you'll want to create a DRS Rule to avoid ever hosting the Primar & Secondary VSM on the same host.

-How to migrate existent Kernel iSCSI port group to nexus? .. what are the steps? in cisco manual"Migration from VMware vSwitch to Cisco Nexus 1000V" show how to generate the port-profile, but
how to create the iSCSI target? (ip address, user/password) ..where is it defined?

[Robert] You can migrate any VMKernel port from vCenter by selecting a host, go to the Networking Configuration - DVS and select Manage Virtual Adapters - Migrate Existing Virtual Adapter. Then follow the wizard.  Before you do so, create the corresponding vEth Port Profile on your 1000v, assign appropriate VLAN etc.  All VMKernel IPs are set within vCenter, 1000v is Layer 2 only, we don't assign Layer 3 addresses to virtual ports (other than Mgmt).  All the rest of the iSCSI configuration is done via vCenter - Storage Adapters as usual (for Targets, CHAP Authentication etc)

-Supposing of the licences of VEM is not enough for all ESX servers,, ¿will happen to the connectivity of your virtual machines in hosts without VEM licences? ¿can operate with vmware vswitches?

[Robert] When a VEM comes online with the DVS, if there are not enough available licensses to license EVERY socket, the VEM will show as unlicensed.  Without a license, the virtual ports will not come up.  You should closely watch your licenses using the "show license usage" and "show license usage " for detailed allocation information.  At any time a VEM can still utilize a vSwitch - with or without 1000v licenses, assuming you still have adapters attached to the vSwitches as uplinks.

I must install nexus 1000V in vmware plataform with VDI, with severals Servers ESX, with 3 vswitch on each ESX Server, with severals virtual machinne running, two clusters defined with vmotion and DRS active and central storage with iSCSI

I have severals cisco manuals about nexus, but i see special focus in installations topics, the options for migrations is not extensive item, ¿do you have "success stories" or customers experiences of implementation with migrations with nexus?

[Robert] Have a good look around the Nexus 1000v community Forum.   Lots of stories and information you may find helpful.

    Good luck!

  • Design storage with VAAI

Hey everyone, have a question of the storage design.

At the time where we did not have a San with VAAI, scsi reservations have been a limiting factor in all design considerations.  We did small clusters and presented a less number of LUN - with these LUNS being shared amoungst the smallest possible number of hosts - and ran under VMs per lun.

Now, however, we have a new San with capacity VAAI.  We currently have 7 business incubators - who all have their own set of LUNS/data warehouses.

Is there a reason (reservations scsi no longer a problem) why I should not introduce all LUNS to guests in all clusters? I know there is a limit of 255 LUNs, however, I'm not afraid with this limit that strikes. Will be the performance of this impact in some way? Y at - it overload memory serivce console?  Without scsi reservations, our main factor limiting (to me) is one of depth of queue - that would be for each host.  So if I can increase the number of hosts that can be seen by a single data store - I should be able to also increase the number of VMs on this data store as long as load the virtual machine is distributed over several hosts.  Is this correct?

In addition, most of our cluster is built the way they are because of software migrate license restrictions, so it often happens that we have to move a VM between clusters - I used cold - but now I use a data store models or Transition that is presented to all hosts irrespective of cluster.  Even if it means no interruption of service - there are still several steps to move the virtual machine (2 svmotions and a vmotion).  It would be very convenient that all the guests could see all data warehouses - but I don't want to break any design best practices.

Thank you and appreciate any input!

The circumstances are different, and if you find that a recommendation is not so appropriate considering another design choice can be the most appropriate solution for you.

I'm not entirely sure scsi reservations are no longer a problem, but whose impact has considerably decreased with assisted hardware locking.  As far as I know, there is no additional charge to hypervisor with additional data warehouses.  Performance should not be touched in any way, except when doing things like analyses or updates from storage, these can take longer.  HA master election process in vSphere 5 analysis also stores data connected on each host, it can also add a small overhead (almost irrelevant if)...

  • Hello! questions asked by a developer of new forms of Apex

    Hi all!
I am a developer of forms since 1998 and I was looking at the apex since version 3.2
I am really impressed with version 4 and the next 4.1 news, so tonight I decided to go for it take a look at it!

My first question is about the design of data base:
It seems that apex encourages the design of pk id number and not another approach.
    for example, I have a table user_group:
    ug_group varchar2 (5) pk
    ug_description varchar2 (50) not null

When I create a simple tabular form the pk is retrieved and then in the next step i wonder to 'Set the source for the primary and foreign key columns' Existing sequence etc...
So I created a custom pl/sql (return null) to go...
When I start my page I see only available for update or insert description field, what can I do with my pk varchar?
So, I wonder about my design? Should I need to rework my table and make the id of way? or is there another solution?

Another question (generally a matter of forms developer):
What enter and execute query functions? Is it possible to have the same, or is the standard way to have default search results?

    Thanks for your attention

    Hello

Default Apex Hides the primary key column and assumes that it will be a numeric field used to create relations only and not for data entry. However if you want to manually enter the primary key you can display the column (which in fact instead of hidden text element).

So, I wonder about my design? Should I need to rework my table and make road id? or is there another solution?

It seems to be a better way to have a numeric ID field, but it is not a must.

What enter and execute query functions? Is it possible to have the same, or is the standard way to have default search results?

N ° it's different in the Apex and my humble opinion, it is much better than Enter/Execute Query. Whenever you create a form, you get option to create 'A form with the State', so it creates an interactive report with the data entry form. For example, you can search for interactive report and edit link allows you to change the recording.

Just for you information in a table and not much in the Apex as other (non-tabular) forms are powerful. People including Oracle Forms really want because they make better.
