  • A few questions for the first blackberry development

    Hello

    First of all, my apologies for this being placed in the Java section, it seemed, the nearest section of what it is, but please move if need be.

    We have an application in development for the iOS platform that uses some geolocation and Web services.  We believe that we should have a version for the blackberry also platform, so we're looking in this evolution.  However, not being not to developers or users of blackberry, the different options for creating an application are quite overwhelming.  My questions are the following:

    (a) what language (Java?) is the most compatible?  Ideally, we would like to write the backend once, don't have to change the interface for devices of the curve through to the new playbook.  Java is also based on all of these devices?  None of us have any idea of Adobe Air, this is probably out of the question.

    (b) what are the operating systems are supported by what?  The curve I picked up seems to have Blackberry OS5 on it.  All operating systems support Java everything too, and whose support wifi location and cell tower map (the curve does not have a GPS unit).

    (c) I understand that during the development in Java there is a blackberry UI api, that's fine.  However, what version of Java is supported?  Is - this SE6, or we are talking about mobile Java here?

    (d) distribute the Apps.  The Blackberry App World seems to be the best route.  Do most people use?  It seems that the Blackberry is not restricted like iOS devices in how applications can be distributed.  Is there any other App stores (e.g. Amazon for Android?).  I guess it would be silly not not to enumerate the BB App World.

    Thanks in advance, any help is much appreciated.

    S.

    It is a really difficult game of questions.

    (a) Yes is the short answer.

    The long answer involves noting that the PlayBook does not directly support Java, and development platforms only available to this end are currently Adobe Air and Web works.  I can't give you a good explanation, since I dabbled only in them, but in summary,

    (a) with Web works you are essentially creating a Web application using HTML and JavaScript, with some JavaScript interfaces to the native operating system

    (b) air seems to me be in another development environment where screens and treatment are defined in a "Scripting" language that runs on the device.

    Work Web development is possible on the current BlackBerry phones as well, although I have no idea how compatible the two are - in other words how much you would have to change to a PlayBook Web app works works on the Palm and vice versa.

    I suggest you ask a similar question in the forums for these two platforms and see what they say.

    Anyway, there is a train of thought that phones current based Java will stop at some point, and phones will become based QNX, as PB.  So right now, if you want to learn something, then Web works.  But the works Web will be able to do what you want?  I don't know, but I don't know that Java is.

    But whatever the customer, you should be able to write the backend once.  Everything should speak http towards it.

    (b) there is not a BONE by device. Most devices come out with only one level and can be upgraded, usually at the next big release.

    Take a look at this good:

    http://us.BlackBerry.com/developers/choosingtargetos.jsp

    OS 5.0 in theory supports the location of the cell tower.  I say in theory because I never had to work in the United Kingdom.  But I have not tried very hard.  In my view, WiFi is available in the OS 6.0.

    (c) blackBerry support J2ME, with a significant number of extensions.  Think of it as Java 1.4 without all the useful bits, but the then RIM tried to add their useful in bits.

    (d) cannot speak for others, but BB App World is all I use.  Tried another one and didn't get anywhere.  YMMV.

    I hope this helps.

  • Question on the browsers on the storm blackBerry Smartphones

    Hello everyone, I have a few questions about web browsers and the storm. If I still want to use a specific browser to a certain website how can I do this? The firefox browser remember passwords and login information? Is this a secure way to hold this info? Are there changes to settings that will speed up the loading of pages for web pages that have not been optimized for mobile devices? Thanks for any help you can provide me with Steve

    Hi Steve, I'll do my best to answer your questions.

    The main web browser (and one that opens automatically by clicking on links in emails and others) are the BlackBerry Internet browser.  This identification of the browser can be configured in three settings - BlackBerry, FireFox or Internet Explorer.  Usually, it is best to keep it on BlackBerry, but for some sites, it may be useful to define it on FireFox or Internet Explorer.  Make sure that JavaScript is activated for a better experience.

    The BlackBerry browser will keep cookies, so you can choose of you connected to the sites if you wish leave (for example, I logged in on the forums here leaves).  This works even if you set your BlackBerry, FireFox or Internet Explorer browser identification.  As long as your phone is not stealing, it is of course (and if your password to protect your device, it is safe anyway).

    A trick to speed up the loading of pages is to go to the options of your browser and under General Properties, set the Image quality to low.

    Now, the BlackBerry browser is a slower browser, however, he accelerated with updates of the operating system.  If your operator has provided an update for your phone, I recommend that you install it.  If they are not, keep watching for him.  Another method is to try a different browser.  I tried two so far - the Bolt and Opera Mini browser.  Both are much faster than the stock BlackBerry browser and load quickly no optimized pages.  Bolt browser is the fastest.  Note that both of these browser are not perfectly optimized for the storm, so while that pages will load faster, you need to learn to use them properly.  The two should also be able to remember great cookies.

    I hope that's what you're looking for, but do not hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!

    No not possible in the default BlackBerry. However, you can search applications 3rd party App World for these features.

  • Updates the device blackBerry Smartphones application

    Recently, when I am connected to BB Desktop Manager, updates available. I agree with all of the updates and he did it successfully. However, whenever I now connect to Desktop Manager, I receive the same message saying that the same updates are available. If I agree to them, he then tells me no updates are available. How can I get rid of this message.

    Hello

    In this case, we can try to reload the software on the BlackBerry smartphone to make sure she is running the most recent version and there is no problems with the operating system on the device.

    To do this, we would need to back up the BlackBerry Smartphone. Please open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and plug in your device. Click the backup and restore options, and then select Save. Note the location where the backup is saved will allow us to access later to restore the BlackBerry smart phone.

    Once you have saved your BlackBerry smart phone, please follow the link below to complete a clean reload of the Smartphone BlackBerry software.

  • GoldenGate colmap question on the calculation

    Hi guys,.

    I did a few replication from oracle to SQL server.

    Source DB: Oracle Table:

    create table myemps)

    Identification number,

    first name varchar2 (100),

    VARCHAR2 (100) last_name,.

    number of salary

    );

    Target DB: SQL Server DB:

    CREATE TABLE [dbo]. [myemps] (

    [id] [digital](18, 0) NOT NULL,

    [full_name] [varchar] NULL (300),

    [salary] [digital] (18, 0) NULL,

    [first name] [varchar] NULL (200),

    [name] [varchar] NULL (200),

    CLUSTERED PRIMARY KEY

    (

    [id] ASC

    ) WITH (PAD_INDEX =-OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]

    ) ON [PRIMARY]

    The params replicat:

    REPLICAT MSREP1

    TargetDB ggs_nc

    GETTRUNCATES

    APPLYNOOPUPDATES

    SOURCEDEFS dirdef/source.def

    CARD scott.customer, dbo.customer of the TARGET.

    card scott.myemps, target dbo.myemps,

    COLMAP (USEDEFAULTS,

    SALARY = @COMPUTE(SALARY * 12)

    FULL_NAME = @STRCAT (LAST_NAME, ",", FIRST_NAME));

    The problem is the updates on the first single _name on Oracle, updates not reflecting to full_name on SQL Server;

    Sample:

    I have published a couple of Oracle SQL:

    insert into myemps (id, first_name, last_name, salary) values (2, 'A', 'B', 100000);

    commit;

    Update myemps set name is 'CCCC' where id = 2;.

    commit;

    After the updates, the full_name on SQL Server must be 'B, CCCC', but it remains B.

    Can someone explain this?

    Thank you.

    I guess it has something to do with not having all the columns in the source with which to the @STRCAT. If you did a TRANDATA ADD on the source table, then everything that happens in your update for the replicate folder is the key and the first_name column. But if the first name is updated, you must also last_name so that you can format the target full_name column correctly and vice versa, because they have to replace the entire string full_name. A way to do this is to always connect supplementally both first_name and last_name. That's an exaggeration, but I don't think that there is a way to bind an additional record of a column to another (for example, to log last_name only when the name is updated).

    Best regards

    Mary

  • The agenda blackBerry smartphones another question - scrolls down?

    Hi again

    OK, everyone knows otherwise this one...?

    I got a lot of entries in my journal to enter next year, but whenever I go to the agenda he always goes down, i.e. the entry more in the future. Even if I press the button "go to today" when to the order of the day, he goes to today but then quickly moves to the end of the list, that is to say in the future.

    Surely, if you are in any kind of view and you want to go today, you should see 'today' to proceed?

    Come on RIM, re-enter your and start you reply to these messages! We have spent a lot of money on your product, do not make an Apple on us and ignore us!

    What is supposed to happen? Don't tell us that it is a feature!

    Gee

    Found out what was the cause...

    If you have 'show time' in your point of view of the order of the day, you can stop what is happening. If you do not "show time" in your view of the order of the day as you will scroll to the end of the agenda.

  • Question on load of the storm blackBerry Smartphones

    Hi guys,.
    I just got a storm 9500 from vodafone, I kept my storm to charge for 7 hours, the battery icon is now show full, but a lightning bolt icon is still on the battery meter, in the manual it shows only the icon full battery charge, I m get the icon full battery, but with lightning bolt sign still on it ,
    is this normal?
    Thank you.

    Not all the time but probably more like...   If you encounter off the coast or a strange behavior with the storm a battery pull will most likely fix it...   Indeed BB app world has an application called quick draw, it's free and it simulates a battery pull, so do not separate the back all the time...  I have good comfort for a downside... go figure

    Please don't forget to fix the thread if others now what to do if they have the same problem.  Thank you

  • Touch of convenience for the 8300 blackBerry Smartphones

    I'm trying to understand how to implement the right key convenience on a Curve 8320 behaves like the home button located on the right side of a BlackBerry 8700 (and any other template before the arrival of the balls among us).  Get some of my people has opted for the 8300 Series trackball, but they badly want the ESC key on the side. Facility key convenience covers requests and I am told by my provider, it cannot be done.  Will there be a positive response to this?

    they will have to deal with it.
    Anyway, with the curve, apart from having the right hand of Hellboy, the ESC key is really easy to access when you use the trackball.
