R61I

I have a thinkpad r61i notebook and uninstalled the operating system. installed ubuntu (linux) and then uninstalled in order to get the dual-boot. However, I have now installed windows xp & ubuntu dual boot. Unfortunately now I can't access the internet in win xp even though I downloaded all network drivers for my model and transferred to portable computer from a memory card.

the Device Manager has several points mark and most disturbing is the network controller.

any ideas... I probably lack of important info, so just ask.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum!

When it comes to ThinkPads, installing drivers is not the end of the process, they must be decompressed in the appropriate directory. For your wireless card (if it's Intel) it should be something like C > drivers > win > Wlanint.

I hope this helps.

  • Questions R61i online registration

I have a R61i (spec in my signature) and were constantly in trouble with the laptop tself online registration. Using the shortcut on the desktop "Register your Lenovo" takes me to a registration page that requires the entry of a U.S. State. Because I don't live in the United States, it is my ability to register hapmering. Anyone got any ideas (other than simply putting in a random State)?

The moment when the laptop of the ships out of the factory, the warranty is already active (if you do not need to register your laptop computer to activate the warranty), anyone who knows the model number and the serial number of your laptop can lay claim to the guarantee, if the guarantee is related to the laptop and not the buyer. These services are automatically enabled in contrast to some laptops from other brands.

If you want to warranty upgrade or whatever it is, you will need to fax on your bill in many countries.

If you don't really need to save your laptop.

  • ThinkPad R61i CPU Upgrade

Thinking about upgrading the processor on my ThinkPad R61i.

    It is dated date 08/02 R61i 7650-D6G (15.4 ", without IEEE).

    A currently a T5450 @ 1.66 Ghz and GM965/GL960 chipset.

As the T5450 has a 667 MHz front bus and is 65nm litho - do I have to stick with Merom chips (and not go for the Penryn)? (The GM965 should support an 800 MHz FSB - but do not know if the Council itself would be).

Am I limited to the series T5xxx (i.e. 2 MB Cache), or could I go for a T7xxx? (even those that were made after the date of the laptop?).

Also - is the BIOS not official (I forgot what it's called now - Middleton?) upgrade (?) a good thing to do?

Help and above all experience, much appreicated - thanks guys!

    Welcome to the forum!

Middleton BIOS is a must on any * system 61 in my view.

As for the CPU, you can certainly opt for a processor Merom (T7300, 7500, 7700, 7800). According to the review board, you might or might not be able to use a processor Penryn (T8100/8300/9300/9500).

The biggest upgrade will be a decent SSD and 4 GB of RAM, though, even if you choose to go with one of the processors less powerful but very cheap as T7300/7500.

    Happy update.

  • Lenovo ThinkPad R61i-8932FWU-CPU Upgrade

    Hallo:

    Made in 08/09

I have a widescreen R61i with IEEE1394, its runnibg with a (Fsb533) T2390, I interested in upgrading to one of the T7xxx series, I tried T8100 Penryn, no go, it starts and stops off-limits to production error heat pipe.

Since it is a Board of Directors of Intel T7300 merom or T7500 will work in it?

  • Widescreen - torn R61i cable under the broken right hinge

    Hey everybody,

I recently bought a used R61i which has been described as having only a right hinge broken. - However, the EC, I noticed a black ripped/broken cable protruding under/the broken right hinge all about.

I searched through many many sons of "broken hinge" on various forums, but no one ever mentions this black cable near the right hinge as far as I can tell. He is always on the left hinge antenna cables. I have also looked at the manual but cannot know what is function of this cable (a). I think it has something to do with the screen, but:

The laptop seems to work very well; I installed Windows XP and there is no problem with the screen (outside of not being able to set a higher resolution, but I think this comes from a graphic/Monitor driver problem).

Can someone tell me what is this black cable and what problems it might cause (in the future)? Should I replace it - is replaceable? I'll be replacing the hinge and clean fan anyway, so have to disassemble the laptop anyway.

Here are some photos to show you the black cable and its location:

    Thanks in advance!

The black wire is the wire aerial (secondary) to the wireless LAN. The gray wire on the left side is the main. You can get a poorer Black wireless reception. To replace it, you must remove and disassemble the lid/LCD

Following my other thread. I installed the controller netowrk for NIC intel but still cannot access the internet when you use a direct cable.

    looking at the Manager of devices indicates that in the section other drivers there are still the following mark;

    Ethernet controller,

    PCI device

    SM bus controller

    USB controller

    USB controller

    unknown device

    unknown device

    unknown device

    video controller

    video controller (vga compatible)

im guessing the ethernet controller is the problem. However, I installed all the drivers in the network section and have run installation programs.

  • Compatibility with R61i SSD

    Hello Lenovo Support Forum,

Can you please confirm that the next SSD will work with a R61i?

SSD drives have significantly better than hard drives access time, and they tend to be much more vivid, even with an SATA I limitation in place.

  • Ports USB R61i does not

    All started 3 days ago.

    I use a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i 8932-GCU 32bits of Windows Vista Business Edition (SP2).

Suddenly, the USB ports stopped working.

I checked the Device Manager, but everything was fine with the USB key. However, the Teredo Tunneling PseudoInterface had this small yellow triangles. (Status: this device cannot start - code 10). When I tried to turn it off, to see if there was any conflict, Microsoft Management Console (MMC) became unresponsive.

That same night, Windows Update is also became unresponsive during the installation of an update for the Ricoh SD card reader. When I tried to turn off the reader of SD cards, MMC has crashed again. I tried to uninstall the Device Manager USB drivers... MMC has crashed again.

I tried an another Windows Update, but he also became unresponsive while trying to create a Restore Point

I would really appreciate help on these issues

    Thanks in advance

    Philippe

I think you should think about resinstalling the operating system from scratch.

  • Update CPU R61i

    Hello

    I have a Thinkpad R61i (8918-DCG). It came with a CPU T5450, and I think to be upgraded to a T7700.

    My questions are:

The processor will work in my laptop?

    Can I do the replacement?

Am I having heat problems, or fans can manage the new processor like the T5450?

You can do the upgrade it yourself, but it will avoid the warranty if you do. This manual will take you through it.
