Random sorting of files.

Is there a way to do a random sorting of wav or mp3 files? They are now sorted by artist name and each file is named by the artist and title of the song. Under file/display/sort there is no option that would randomize the list of files.

Hello, B E Withers

In Windows Media Player, when you add songs to the playlist, click the playing tab, then click on the icon next to the Play/Pause button that looks like two arrows cross as an X to scramble the reading - the X will highlight when activated. Note that the list of reading will not change, but will be of the order of reading.

If you burn files through Windows Media Player and you want the randomized go to the tab burn and after you add your tracks, click the drop-down list menu burn and Shuffle list now the choice.

Let us know if that helps.

  • Random allocation/sorting of files in a folder

I would like to know how I can rename and sort files in a folder of photos in a totally random order because I want to create a photo essay?

    Thank you very much

Unfortunately, Vista wants to sort the files in a CERTAIN order and will not retain a random order once you close or change your screen - he'll be back on the agenda by default is.  You can add a new column for headings (say Coments) and once you have the files sorted the way you want, go in this column and name each file in order starting with 1 and ending with what is the last file, and then click the comment header to sort the file in this order.  Then it will work (but if you want to change it, you will have to rename all the files many times).

Here is some additional information that can help (although I'm not sure that he will do exactly what you want to do because I don't think that this is possible under Vista):

Here's how to change the default template for a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html.  Default behavior is to select the model based on the first type of file placed in the folder (you must choose something).  Vista sets the folder type template according to what are the types of files in the window and the settings display window Explorer. This will show you how to reset the Windows Explorer folder view settings, disable Automatic folder Type discovery and increase the view of the folder cache to have Vista don't forget display settings, model of file type, size, or position of a specific window for when it was still closed to the location of specific path.

It does not work with the Sub record under, Open with, open in a new tab (Internet Explorer), etc... dialog windows of type through the good File menu bar item. These don't seem to be able to have their size or their position to recall. For the latter, you can use the free program http://autosizer.en.softonic.com/ to resize them.

Here is another article on how to modify the columns in Windows Explorer and sort in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/108665-column-customize.html.  This will show you how Add, Remove, move, change the widthand change the sort order of the columns in Windows Explorer in the way that you want.

Here is another article on how to change the display of the default folders in Vista (but she argues, it is not a perfect solution and can revert to the previous behavior is not as good as the two prior links provided: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13880_3-10019957-68.html.)

I hope this helps in your situation.

  • can 13 items I sort by file name in Organizer

So I currently have 11 PES and now that I upgraded my camera to an EOS 7 d Mark II, I am increasingly finding subjects with PES 11, firstly, no RAW support, I have workarounds, but it is not ideal. Second more serious problem is the old question of sorting by file name in the Organizer. It was never too a problem for me until I started to import photos from my EOS 7 d MarkII where I used the 10 FPS burst high speed. When I try to see the shots in Organizer, they are just all over the place in a completely random order. The date/time of camera records in the EXIF info, but at 10 FPS resolution of these data are not enough to keep the image in the sequence. I noticed previously with slower cameras sometimes multiple pictures appear out of sequence, but now it's worse.

Can someone tell me if PSE13 also suffers from this limitation? What about Lightroom? I have to update? I have thousands of photos in my catalog and I invested a lot of time and effort in the categorization and tagging of my images. I'd hate to have to do all over again, but if Adobe can't help but then I might have to leave the ship elsewhere to see if a competing product can help.

    Thank you, Keith Adley

The absence of order of alphabetical sorting in PSE11 has been fixed in PSE12 and 13.

Just download the demo version of PS13, and you should see that your gross issue has also been resolved.

You should have no problem to convert your catalogs from PSE11 to the new version without losing anything.

  • I want to sort a file of text editing

Use: Mac OS X El Captan (10.11.4)

Office of the Registrar the County gave me the voter information on some 200 000 voters in our County.  The information is on two discs. One is in the form of text editing; the other is in CSV format.  Unfortunately, when I open the CSV disc, which is sortable on any field, it includes only info registration for 65 538 voters, is less than 1/3 of the voters.

When I reconnected the CSV disc to the person who gave the information and explained that the CSV disk only displays information for 65 538 voters, she put the drive in his PC, to confirm that she had copied a completeness of the CSV file on the disk. 200 000 voters appeared on his PC!

I have concluded that the CSV file doesn't have to be compatible with the Apple software.  The instructions of the Office of the Registrar explain how to convert the file changing text in the CSV file, using the Windows software.  Unfortunately, I have no Windows software installed on my iMac.  The Office of the Registrar also stated that it had taken 10 hours to create the CSV file.

Is it possible for me to convert the file changing text in a Numbers spreadsheet sortable?

FWIW, I normally do not work with spreadsheets, but test a few large .csv files, numbers seem to have a limit of 64 k lines so convert the file of text editing will not help. On the other hand, LibreOffice seems to have more than 1 million more lines, so you should be able to sort your files in OL.

Someone else may have more information.

  • Random problem, download files

I have a random problem, downloading files on different web sites. I click on the file to download and retrieve the backup file with the file name box instead, I get something like "attachment.php". He always seems to be php files.

By clicking on the file many times to download later, it will download, but it is very frustrating.

I went through all the guides and troubleshooting suggestions. Nothing makes no difference. I disable add-ins, antivirus etc. nothing works.

For example, this is the last download, I tried (click on the download button):

    http://www.Pixologic.com/ZBrush/getting-started/

I got "download.php", which is not just the zip file with a different name. It is in fact different.

Do it a few times I finally got the zip file.

It seems to happen on any web site. The common theme is that this '.php' is involved.

Is this a bug? Any ideas?

Do you not see the correct link I posted above at the bottom of the browser window if you hover over the download button?

You can have security software as a software firewall or antivirus which is at the origin of the problems if safe mode did not help.

  • Windows Explorer for Windows 7 - How to stop automatically sort my files

I have Windows 7.  Explorer Windows automatically sorts my files in each folder.  I put in "sort by..." Name ', so for now he is sorting alphabetically, but no matter what I put in 'Grading', it does it automatically.  But I want to be able to move the files to the folder in different orders, and then once I'm satisfied with the order, then I can change the name of each file and then choose to classify them alphabetically or otherwise.

For example, this is useful for a folder full of photos.  Let's say I have a folder with 50 photos in there of holiday, and I would like to re - order these photos, but I want to play visually with different orders until I have decide to order, I like most.  So I want to move each file/photo until I like the Decree.  To do this, I would open this particular folder in Windows Explorer, then select the "Large icons" view and then moving the photos until I like order.  And then once I have pictures in the order I want, then I would like to rename each picture (1, 2, 3, etc.) and then Windows Explorer say "sort by...» Nu.  That's how it was on my old computer, but I got XP and now I have Windows 7, but I can't imagine that Windows 7 would not let me do the same thing.  But the way it works for me now, Windows Explorer comes automatically orders/sorts my files depending on the option "sort by" I chose.  So if I change the name of the files (from 'Photo #25' to ' Photo #10 "'), it automatically goes this photo between" Photo #09 "and" Photo #11 ".»»  And if I try to move 'Photo #10' next to say "#37 picture"to see how they look next to each other, it won't let me. "

How to fix the Bug of scrolling in the left pane
See the bottom of this post for help with the bug of scrolling in the left pane.

The most important features that need to be returned to Windows Explorer:

    (1) the option to turn off the auto arrange.

    (2) fix the Bug of scrolling in the left pane: If you view a folder and expand in the left pane to display its subfolders, the folder is annoyingly prefer to the bottom of the component causing the subfolders do not appear, making it difficult to work with.

    (3) when several files are selected they should stay selected when changing the sort order (ex: name of size). Maintenance of the files selected in the sort should be a requirement, and this feature should not have been removed.

    (4) the option to remember the view settings of each folder (Recalling the positions and sizes of the individual folder window).

    (5) the option to remove 'Complete the selection of lines' to see in detail. "Selection of whole lines" is very annoying when the file is complete and has no empty space to click on. Also, when dragging / delete the file to another folder - if you release the on the line of a subfolder or file de.exe/.zip/.rar 'selection of whole lines' causes the file to be moved in the subfolder ou.exe/.zip/.rar instead file the file provided.

    (6) a search engine with all the advanced search options. No required syntax.

    (7) the option to always display free disk size space and record on the State and/or the details pane toolbar. Also always automatically show the size of the selected files (when several files are selected it will not show the total size).

    (8) the ability to scroll the window/pane mouse is with the mouse wheel, even if this window/pane is not selected.

Inform you want Windows explorers returned Microsoft functions:

Given that many people seem to agree that some or all of the changes made to Windows Explorer were actually less friendly user, you can go to the Windows 7 comments page and (politely) to let them know your suggestions to improve:

Using the classic interface to restore functionality of Windows Explorer

After you have installed the free Classic Shell , you can customize Windows Explorer more closely to how you want it, the quote below is just a way to do it. Click here to see some of the options that you can customize, and here is the FAQ page.

A solution that worked for the restoration of some features.

    (1) install the free classic Shell. It's free, completely customizable and works like a mod for Windows Explorer, rather than a full blown replacement. Personally, I did not fit the classic Start Menu option, but you can if you wish.
    (2) restart the computer.
    (3) launch Windows Explorer and turn on "Always show Menus" (it's just for the configuration, you can disable it again later if you want).
    (4) make a right click on the menu bar and turn in the "Classic Explorer bar. This adds a series of icons for cut/copy/paste in Explorer. Basically, it also adds the "Configuration" icon
    5) go to the configuration and from there you can edit things to your heart's content. To kill the horrible record-jumping 7 Windows, place you Vista in 'Style Navigation pane. You can even go more retro and hit return to XP mode if you want (this adds lines to the tree of folders and adds a classic icon "+" for the expansion of folders).
    (6) set the parameters of other institutions. I have so that the bit "more details" in the dialogues of copy is automatically extended, I checked the option "display free space and size of the file in the status bar" (no need to right click on the drive to see how much space is left), personally, I decided to stay with the "overwrite file" dialog box Windows 7 style (the default is the simplest dialogue style Vista/XP) , and I went for the Windows Vista style folders display that looks about the same as the view from Windows 7, but get rid of the horrible jump.

After that, you can activate the toolbar and menus walk back to explore if you wish. Explorer Windows seems largely the same, but folders is no longer jumping around.

Now if only MS allows to code correctly so that we don't have to mess with third-party applications to get Windows actually works...

    Hi bcwups

Whenever you ask the question 'why', the only possible answers you will get on a support forum are just speculation or conjecture.

The only people who can answer the question are people who take design decisions, and they don't usually respond to questions here.

If you wish to submit your comments and thoughts on the design of Windows 7, you can use the following online feedback form.

Windows 7 comments - talk us at Microsoft

There are places you can go to get some insights into the 'why' of individual decisions are made. Many Microsoft Windows developers have their own blogs where they publish articles that are sometimes very transparent and revealing. Here is a link to the parent for these items.

    Home - MSDN Articles

Another good resource is the blog that Windows developers used during the beta of Windows 7. If you look at the archived articles, (more than 60) they described the 'why' of a large number of features that have been changed/added/removed from Windows 7.

  • How can I sort the files by filename length

I started to migrate files from an old laptop to a new desktop computer and I use the directory command copy in search of my portable hard drive to backup file menu.

The backup hard drive helped save more than one copy of a large number of files and did just the file name a lot more time so you can differentiate between the files.

Unfortunately the Windows 7 search command (which allows you to search and sort out almost anything) will not allow me sort by file name length that seems the only way I can go in the new computer, once the files are copied and remove long file names. I can delete each one individually, but if I could simply sort by length of file name I then could highligth and remove all the longer file names at once. There are hundreds of them, and I don't have a whole day to do this.

So, for clarity, I was about to put a screen print here, but can't so I type and show a simple example:

NAME DATE MODIFIED DATE TYPE CREATES

    DSC01001 15/05/2012 4.09 PM JPEG image 15/05/2012 16:09

    DSC01001@6968 15/05/2012 4.09 PM JPEG image 15/05/2012 16:09

    DSC01002

    DSC01002@69868CFRETY

The right of the file name field data is the same on all files so can not differentiate or sorting by any other method

So if I could sort by filename above the longfiles would hopefully meet in order to be able to highlight and delete.

    Hope it makes sense.

    John

All the most nominated files do not have the symbol in the name of the file @?  If Yes, you can do a search on this basis:

    name: ~ = @.

The ~ = part tells Windows 7 search to look anywhere in the file name.

With respect to the long file name sorting, that wouldn't be feasible in Windows 7 search.  There is a way to copy a list of files in a window, paste into an Excel spreadsheet, a formula that counts characters, and then you could sort Excel based on numbers, but you would not be able to delete the files from Excel.
