• Restore Time Machine wifi data in neutral

  Help! Today I return MacBook Air of my wife in an Apple Store. They fixed a software problem. Apple wiped the hard drive, but the Air has been saved our Time Machine network. Apple has installed the latest OS X, but not the data of my wife. This, I thought, would be easy and simple.

  The problem is with the restore / recover the process. The recovery process looks fine. I selected the data to be restored and the 40,000 more files seem to be download nominally and after about 20 minutes, he seemed to be almost done.

  However, the process is at a standstill, apparently at the end. On the page titled "Transfer of information", it says "one minute remaining to 17 MB/s".   It won't hurt to let you it run for a few hours.

  If it succeeds, then stop and restart the computer and the TC.

  Don't allow TM to do a new backup... it's essential... you must first pick up these files...

  No chance you can do a full restore to a new location. It's pretty simple to do... but the wizard configuration rather than migration.

• How to use Time Capsule with Time Machine and no Wifi

  Situation.  Late 2009 iMac with OSX 10.7.5.  Used Airport Extreme since purchase in early 2010.  Use a modem cable from Arris SB 6141.  Decided to upgrade to 2 TB Time Capsule.  And the problems started.  I put TC in place... Finally, with the help of the people of this forum (thanks).  Transport CANADA does not have the internet connection to the Modem.  New to this forum I discovered that the TC does not like the SB6141.  So I put the Airport Extreme in the network and work like a charm wireless.

  Now, how can I connect the TC to the network or the Mac to use the part Time Machine?

  I tried to put the TC in Airport Extreme with an ethernet cable.  First, the iMac would not recognize the local network by removing printers and the other external USB drive; and my TV got confused on what wifi network with the same name in which to connect.

  Before I hit the reset button on the time Capsule I tried to ask what would be the right steps.

  You should not have really big questions on Lion.

  Connect the WAN of TC port on the ethernet port LAN AE.

  Configure the TC in bridge. I disable the wireless to EI and let it run in the TC... that's much better work in this configuration.

  The Mac that will backup must really be connected to the TC in direct wireless or ethernet... This will help loads.

  The wireless work better on the TC... If it isn't, then you can swap EI... but I'd be surprised if that was the case.

  Looking for advice on how to get the Time Machine utility for access to my Time Capsule. I use an iMac in late 2012 with MAC OS 10.12 TimeCapsule is 2015 7.7.7 running latest firmware. Airport utility is the latest firmware 6.3.7.

  When I run the application Time Machine, Time Capsule is not detected. I tried the two WiFi and with cables connected Ethernet (not tried USB yet) and my Time Capsule doesn't have a lightning bolt or firewire ports.

  Open Airport utility & see the airport time capsule. I can see all connected devices, including the MAC, but no prompt activation Time Machine on the Time Capsule.

  I recently used TM on this iMac with a G-Technology drive. It auto detects the time machine and executes a back up. But airport Time Capsule will not.

  Any suggestions?

  Sierra has been problematic with the TC.

  1. make sure you don't have any charge virus protection software. In fact, I would say that disable all software 3rd part at the moment.

  2. make sure that you can actually write to disk of TC.

  Attach the TC disc in the finder and copy a file on disk, you can delete it later... It's just to ensure that you have full write permission. If it does not for the most part, you won't be able to use Time Machine... If you can then try TM immediately...

  Just to be clear, the TC is a network device. You have tested with ethernet and wireless... Ok.. They are only suitable methods. You cannot use USB. And clearly, TC has never had nor will never be ports Firewire or lightning.

  3. no chance that a reset complete TC. This will not delete the files on the hard drive, but you must make sure that the device is configured on the current computer.

  4. There are many positions in these days... read through them and do some research. Sierra is a bleeding edge new... So wait you to spend a lot of the precious liquid if you choose to be an early adopt.

  We understand your current configuration of the network with the Time Capsule (TC). Is the TC the only router on your network? What is the brand and model of the modem Internet you have directly linked it by Ethernet?

  Normally you use a wired connection or wireless between the iMac and the TC? This always was a problem or just started to happen? If she just started, have you changed any software/firmware on the iMac or TC?

Or, for better quality, get a NAS - network attached storage that can be attached, they have the temperature control, mine is a RAID 2 discs, so there is that the degree of redundancy - but not, I learn, protect against a corrupt Time Machine backup and that can happen, or power increases (although it is on a high-tech power bar) , or theft, etc.

  Problem 2: using NAS, which I connected to a Terminal Airport Express via an Ethernet cable - if connected to the computer by WiFi - the Time Machine backup becomes a "sparsebundle" (set of files, in fact), encrypted file with password (?) drive access. However, this was work and I did a full restore of your data (no 'system') the other day with Migration Wizard when I got a new hard drive installed in my old iMac (also upgraded at the time of 10.9 to 10.11). It took over all night, but the wonder of wonders, it chugged along and finished and seems fine. (I have not checked tens of thousands of files individually!)

  (My SIN explicitly supports Time Machine, and I checked that box in the configuration of the SIN, and it seemed to work.) I didn't have to leave the mounted drive. Time Machine found hourly and used invisibly in the background.)

  Problem 3: I have rename my hard drives for some reason any and do not remember quite what its name was. I wonder if this is part of my problem (read more). But there is a method in Time Machine to 'Browse other discs of backup. " I was looking for a file that I kept outside my usual login "user" and so had not been returned when I used Migration Assistant for data recovery only.

  However, when I do this, then nothing is there. I've learned that sometimes, with an encrypted sparsebundle, wireless backup, you will have to let Time Machine sit for a few minutes before the back-ups start to appear, but now, with my new hard drive (with a new name) and the new version of the OS, there is simply nothing; just 'today' that shows only my current hard drive status. Obviously, there was something, or Migration Assistant wouldn't have worked, but during the inspection of the backup via Time Machine, the file seems to be here (whatever_my_computer - name_was.sparsebundle), but it is empty.

  If I just try to navigate in the Finder to the sparsebundle NAS Time Machine, I can find it but not to open it. Double click: nothing happens. It is not that I forgot to connection settings, this is what it do not ask me for them.

  This happened to me twice and the first time was the day after archiving (luck and good planning) and I thought that it is a kind suddenly lucky, but now it happened again.

  So, I tried a bit of searching and not found a clear answer to my question above. I do not see these links:

  Of them, it seems that a NAS that has an explicit ability to Time Machine might work (mine did), but is not fully functional, not approved by Apple and is completely unpredictable. My limits are described above. (I work around them).

  However, moving forward: I have this RAID 2 discs sitting around, seemingly more reliable than a drive external non-temperature controlled, and I wonder about the connection by USB directly on my computer. What is the downside of this? That is my question. Who will 'normally' work as a Time Machine backup external drive?

  Another option is to get two large external hard drives and the value of Time Machine to switch between the two. I have not tried, but apparently it was possible for the last iterations little Mac OS X.

  I use a direct attached Drobo (it is a very easy to use RAID device).

  I've always had problems with Time Machine on the network, so I stopped using it in this way. I've never had problems with the TimeMachine and direct-attached storage.

  With the Drobo if a disk goes bad, I buy a replacement and hot it swap for the failed drive.

• Photos say too old version after restoring from Time Machine

  I tried to update my wife 5 c's iPhone but iTunes (version 12.4.3.1) kept saying unknown error (-50). I read that a possible problem might be something on an xml file in the pictures with a conflict or missing. I thought that this might be a good time to try my first restore with Time Machine. I thought I would restore Photos only a few hours of this day. While I was doing that in the middle of the restore, Time Machine was trying to make it's hourly backup and I got an exclamation point saying that he was unable to save. After the backup is complete, I tried to open the pictures and it says "library old Version, please update your library 'Photos' using iPhoto free library upgrade available at Apple. So I downloaded the file .dmg and still nothing. I don't want even if an earlier version of Photos, I want to what I had and I thought of making a time Machine would be restore was supposed to get back to how I had it. My Time Machine works again but the new backup, he's trying to back up my photo library. I know because I recognize the size of the backups as being the same size as my library of Photos. One thing that I tried was the Option key pressed when opening pictures to try to select another library that I have an old migrated iPhotos library in my folder of photos I thought that maybe Photos was trying to open. As a side question I was wondering if I could remove the migrated iPhotos library as whenever I click on it, more or less said that he has already been migrated, he discovers in a compatible version of Photos.   What did restore exactly the time Machine? You write "Restore Photos", indicating you restored the Photos app, but the error messages seem to apply to the photo library.  You have restored a library of old Photos?  If you restored the photo library, try to open it directly by double clicking it or dragging it to the Photos icon in the Dock.

• Utilities airport shows a triangle Orange on Time Capsule, Wifi working

  Recently, my Time capsule is showing an orange triangle in AP-utility. By clicking on it, it shows the message: AP Time capsule found, with the possibility to forget.

  Time capsule shows a steady green light. Wifi is good job and my two other airports Express are being lit in the utility.

  I've read other discussions with similar problems. So, I did the following things:

  (1) soft reset of time capsule,

  (2) Changed link local IPv6 settings

  (3) disabled firewall

  (4) settings saved and restarted.

  It did not help for long after a few minutes the triangle orange has shown once again.

  In Time Machine, time capsule HD is not recognized or the other.

  But the wifi works perfectly.

  Please notify.

  I think that the problem is resolved.

  I read the info "how to ask a good question" and apparently you need details. I'll try and be concise but informative with my problem. It has been a long journey to get to where I am, but hopefully, with a little help from this amazing community, I can get to my destination.

  Task

  To produce a backup solution Time Machine for the family spending as little money as possible and using the BRIC and broc, I already have.

  Equipment available

  I have a House with some ethernet cables for most rooms that through switches to allow a variety of, most entertainment devices to communicate. It is:

  1 x NAS/Media (ReadyNAS Duo v2) server,

  2 x TV (Samsung),

  2 x TEU (Beyonwiz),

  2 x Apple TV (a 2 nd generation the other is the latest version)

  2 x DVD players,

  1 x iMac.

  2 x 8-port switches,

  1 x 16 switch ports,

  1 x AirPort Extreme (2007).

  1 x Airport Express (age unknown but older than the extreme)

  1 x Fritz! Box 7490 Modem/Router

  Courses in place

  All the associated TV stuff are connected in 2 rooms through ethernet via switch 2 x 8 ports switch 16 central port and then to the Fritz! modem/router box.

  There are also all the usual WiFi going on with mobile phones, iPads and laptops.

  Remarkably, it seems just to work!

  However, I want to add some backup data on our computers. I tried to do by using the ReadyNAS as it is supposed to support Time Machine, but I can't it to appear as a backup destination. So, I thought, as I have AirPort Extreme, I add it to the network and attach a USB HDD for Time Machine since it is supposed to be easy. However, I've been home for hours and cannot make the HARD disk appear in system preferences/Time Machine.

  I plugged the Airport Extreme in one of the switches 8 port said to create a wireless network with the same details as the Fritz! The box according to another article of the support (Airport Extreme wired AND expand network - need of entry). Airport utility shows me Wi-wired connections and seems to work.

  I look at the AirPort Extreme disks tab and can see the attached USB drive here. However, it does not appear as a choice of drives available for backup in Time Machine preferences. I tried 2 different discs with the same result.

  The Question (finally)

  How can I get Time Machine preferences to show the USB disk attached to AirPort Extreme as a valid choice for backups? If anyone can give me a little help in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

  Unfortunately, the key here is that the version of AirPort Extreme you have does not officially support Time Machine backups on a drive to the USB port of the device.

  The only version of the AirPort Extreme, which will officially support Time Machine backups on a drive in the USB port on the airport is the 802.11ac current version that looks like a "tower". Older versions of 'flat and square' of the AirPort Extreme don't support Time machine with a USB drive attached.

  Support for time Machine to USB drives

  OS X Time Machine supports compatible USB drives encrypted, related to the time Capsule (802.11n and 802.11ac) AirPort and AirPort Extreme (802.11ac).

  Given that the average life of most wireless routers lasts about 5 years, and your AirPort Extreme seems to be about 9, your AirPort Extreme did very well for you... much better than the average. It might be time to start thinking about a replacement who will be responsible for backups Time Machine... either a time Capsule (i.e. an AirPort Extreme with a built-in hard drive) or another AirPort Extreme.

  I have a MacBook Air (11 inch, early 2014), with 256 GB. My Time Machine backups run to a central unit of Seagate NAS (2 TB) mounted inside my home network wifi. Thus, every night his running and to protect me.

  Two months ago I run out of space in the macbook, so I didn't uninstall some software and move some video files to my central seagate. I get about 50 Gb and macbook becomes used 190 GB space.

  Then comes a message/dialog box saying he checked my backups, and improve confiability I have to start a new Time Machine backup. I run it and do as suggested. After that I do, in July 18, 2016, apple launches the version OS X 10.11.6 (15 G 31). After I installed the new os x version, it asks me again to start the backup time machine to zero. I think it was because a few new features and/or adaptation of system and made as required. Then just web browsing, mail check and some work til today worksheet. Today (August 7, 2016), he asks again create a new backup on my mac.

  I thing something is wrong. Everyone has gone through some like this and could say something about this, or know what's happening? Thanks in advance!

  I suggest that you do not click on anything in this message!

  If you want to do something with Time Machine, select SystemPreferences-> TimeMachine and do what you want to do.

• External hard drive through U-verse for Time Machine

  I've been using time machine to back up my Macbook.  I have usually just plug the drive every day and save things.  But I want to leave the drive plugged into my router and connect via wifi.  Unfortunately, when I plug the HD into my router I can't see it on my Macbook.  No idea how I can fix it.

• Restored HD from a Time Machine backup of my old iMac (stolen) from my new MacBook Pro.  Not all the files have been restored.

  My iMac 27 "(2011) so my wife 13 '' MacBook Pro (2011) were recently stolen after our House was robbed.  My wife got a new MacBook Pro and I restored it successfully its data (selected "backup restore Time Machine" during the installation of its new MacBook Pro).  However, I also got a new 15 "MacBook Pro in lieu of the iMac 27".  I have, once again, selected "Restore from Time Machine backup" (selected the iMac as the backup source) when installing my new MacBook Pro.  When it was finally over, I told Time Machine to inherit from the backup.  Unfortunately, none of the files in the My Documents folder or the photos in my photo library have been restored.  Was it a bad idea to try to use the backup of the iMac as a source for the MacBook Pro (both running El Capitan)?

  is it possible that your documents are stored on another drive which was not part of the backup plan? or is the HD in the big enough MBP to inherent the old backup.

  If you open the time machine with the original backup disc, you should be able to browse the content

• Cannot remove old Time Capsule for time Machine destinations

  My MacBook Pro moves with me between my home office and the different clients that I visit. At home, Time Machine backs up a volume of Time Machine on my Xserve served to the network by OS X Server. I guess that for the Mac it looks like a Time Capsule, although in my case, it's a RAID 5 with 12 TB of capacity.

  The problem, when I connect to one network other than my home network. As you can see, the window from system preferences Time Machine offer 'Time Machine backup on 'Dominik AirPort Extreme' network', which is not actually present on any network. When I go home, Time Machine continues to try to save this destination does not exist and does not back up the volume on my Xserve. I have to manually switch for my Mac starting the backup on the Xserve again.

  I had a similar problem.

  My Time Capsule had been working perfectly until I updated to the latest firmware (7.6.7) a few weeks ago.  Since then, I have had intermittent WiFi dropouts school but cable systems were not affected.  What firmware version do you use?
