random transitions on vista movie maker 6

I recently discovered the filmmaker windows 6 on my computer, after several years using proshow gold.
Anyone know if it is possible to apply transitions 'random' to all the slides. I commonly slideshows using a lot of pictures, I'd find a lot of your time to apply transitions to each slide individually

Thanks for any help on this

Series of clips added to Vista movie maker 6 to make short. Clips work perfectly on preview but once the DVD is burnt a few clips are shorter when played on a DVD player.

Thanks for your reply J, followed the instructions to the letter but unfortunately same result.

Clip ends early, fading out & then fading the next in the movie clip.

All the clips are the same format?

Transitions allow portions of the video to overlap clips.

That's how it fades smoothly from one clip to another.

  • "Random selection" for "Transitions" in Windows Movie Maker?

For all that I can tell, Windows Movie Maker doesn't have a 'Random' selection for transitions.  It is this true or am I missing where the selection within the program?

    Hello ugotano,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Forum!

If you are looking for the option on how to change or add the transition in Movie Maker, here are the steps:

    1. on the table of the storyboard / timeline, click the second of the two video clips, titles or images that you want to add a transition between.
    2. click on tools, then on Transitions.
    3. in the content pane, click the transition that you want to add. You can click Play under the monitor to see a preview of what looks like the transition.
    4. click on the Clip and then click Add to timeline or add to the storyboard table.

Here is an article you can do references who will give you information on the transitions:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/add-transitions-and-effects-to-pictures-and-video-in-Windows-Movie-Maker

By default, Windows Movie Maker does not include transitions random, pans and zooms.  Adding Pan/zooms and transitions must be picture.
You can apply the same transition to all the clamps at the same time:
    1. click on the 1st box of transition on the storyboard table (small box between the clips)
    2. do one of the following:
    3 Ctrl + A to select
4 shift-click on the last transition box to select everything in between
5 Ctrl-click the transitional areas to add them to the selection one by one.
    6. right click on the desired Transition and select "apply to the Storyboard object.

    I hope this information helps.

  • Cannot import. In Vista Movie Maker MOV files

I have pictures in my folder of photos I want to make a DVD. Some images are video clips with a file extension. MOV. When I open windows movie maker and click on "importt" I find my photo file and select one of the video clips and try ti import it. I get a message that says "cannot import that movie maker does not recognize the codec. What should I do to get this program to accept my video clips with the .mov file extensions?

    Hello PorterQuinn,

Thank you for posting.  You will need a 3rd party software program or conversion to convert .mov to another type of file that will be recognized by Movie maker.  There are a few conversion tools free availible.  You can use your favorite search engine to find some of them.

Please let me know if this helps you.

  • Why the length of film does not change when I remove Vista Movie Maker clips?

You have not answered my other question.  I get an error "does not fit" when you publish a movie on dvd. I deleted half the clips in the storyboard and length does not change. I always get the error "will not fit". After I saved the project. It seems that it becomes the length of the imported clips not what is in the table of Storyboard. The length of the table of Storyboard is only 01:30, but the length in the window shows 02:42 that is causing the error. It seems to me that it should use the length of the table of Storyboard because it's what makes the final video on dvd.

Yes... adding or removing items from the timeline should change the duration of the project.
The files in your component collections have no effect on the duration of the project.

I suggested that you publish in the movie .wmv format to see if the version with clips
removed would still last for 02:42.

As I have said from the beginning... creating several small projects may be your solution.

I'm sorry that my suggestions seem redundant to you. Perhaps you could find assistance elsewhare.

  • change the time between each photo in movie maker vista

I am doing a slideshow using vista movie maker. I added music and it is great. BUT I can't change the length of time between each picture and the duration of transitions. I tried tools / options / and I can change out there, but it does not apply to my project. I also tried to do it manually but still no luck.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Maybe the following will help:

The change of setting to: Tools / Options /.
Advanced... tab applies only to the added photos
to the timeline * after * you change the setting.

If you switch to view "Storyboard" and select
all the pictures in the form of batches (select one and the type...
CTRL + A)... you can add the 'Speed Up, Double.
or "Slow down, half" effect of changing the
duration. Simply select all clips / right click
the effect on the menu... Choose...
    Add to storyboard table.

'Speed Up, Double' cuts the duration of half.

"Slow Down, half ' double life.

These effects can be added up to six times.

    If you need finer adjustment...
    the info may be useful:

To the timeline, you can change the
the duration for each picture manually. Drag the
Garnish handle left or right to increase or
reduce the duration. You can see a
    Tip displaying the change.

Or... just to redo the project after changing
    the long-term: Tools / Options / Advanced
    tab.

With respect to Transitions, see the following article:

Windows Movie Maker Vista - add transitions and effects to pictures and
    video in Windows Movie Maker
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/add-transitions-and-effects-to-pictures-and-video-in-Windows-Movie-Maker

In some cases, you can add a transition
to every other picture... What follows... explains why:

This happens when the Transition is
the same or greater than the length of the photo.
This setting must be entered before add
    clips on the timeline.

Tools / Options / Advanced tab.

To add effects or Transitions to all clips
at the same time... Follow the following steps:

Go to the table of Storyboard view.

Select all images. (click left one)
    and type... CTRL + A).

With all the images selected... go...
Transitions video and do a right click the
You want to add, and then click on...
Add to storyboard or type table... CTRL + D.

It also works with the effects.

    Effects...

The duration of the effects is not adjustable. As a work around
to extend a fade in from black, you can insert a black solid
.jpg that you can create in most image editing software.

(FWIW... the intensity of certain effects can be increased
If you right click on the picture and choose... Video effects...
You can add up to 6 cases of effect)

In Windows Paint (for example)... Open the photo / right click
the black square in the color box and type... CTRL + SHIFT + N.
(if you do not see color box... type... CTRL + L)

    (1) to save a photo...
    (2) go to... File / save as...
    (3) select a backup location...
    (4) enter a new name (which guarantees that your original picture is
    not overwritten),
    (5) choose a format...
    (6) left click... Record.
