(Re -?) Address book organization

I'm trying to get T-bird all the set-up so I can dump (sadly) Eudora. T - bird imported my Eudora address list form (automatically, because * I * did not do!) However, it's just a big long list of addresses; the Organization, I had only-sorta-in part: it shows 'groups' I had (as: friends and {CompanyName} and a few lists of group I had used), but the lists are not complete, only a few names appear in groups and ALL names appear in this big long list. I tried to recreate one of the groups which do not appear and could not drag-and - drop the long list; can copy and paste. However, the names always appear in this list.

All biz addresses must appear in both groups of biz (distributors, suppliers, customers) - the old mainly used address should appear in "Old friends" - and so on. I read my way through the 18 pages of questions about the assistance community forum T-bird (and learned a lot recorded a lot of tricks on a file to keep); but nothing on how to organize the address book...

Where should I go to learn this - or can anyone answer? I try to keep less than 80-or-so addresses in... what would be the equivalent of the "root" in the address book and everyone in 'folders' (groups), so I can go get them when I need them, but they are out of the way otherwise.

Thank you!
Elenor

  • I can organize my address book in folders?

I finally got a PC with Windows 7. I used XP with Outlook Express for a dozen years and wish I could organize my address book in folders. However, Outlook Express is released with Windows 7. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to put my email addresses in files for ease of use. Is this possible?

Address books do not use records.

You can manually create any number of address books in the address book.
Think of the "address book" as a paper address book.
For example, you can create a different address books to organize contacts by
    for example:
A letter, for example: "one - contact".
OR where the family name is grouped:
    A - M and N - Z
or separate into different address books:
for example: keep the contacts of the family in the "personal address book".
Create an another address book for 'Friends', another for "Business" etc.

You create a new address book here:

    • Click "address book".
    • File > new > address book

    Mailing lists:
Any address book may also have one or more "mailing lists".
The contacts that you want to put in a mailing list must be in the associated address book and have a valid email address.
Mailing lists are used when you want to send an e-mail to a specific contact group.

  • Import Excel file into address book Thunderbird

An Excel file can be imported into the Thunderbird AddressBook? If so, how?

Save the worksheet to a CSV file, which can be imported into Thunderbird address book.

This article lists the fields that can be used by Thunderbird. You will facilitate the import process if you can organize your spreadsheet/CSV file to match.

Here is some info about the import process.

  • Importing data (6 areas) from Excel to the address book of Tb. 6 all appear in the Contacts pane, but 3 of them are in the process of work and do not show up to above therefore impossible to sort.

I try to import the file Excel Tbird address book data (6 fields). All the 6 fields appear in the Contacts pane, but only 3 of them appear in my list where I can sort them. I tried to add all the options for display (CAT name, organizations, etc.), but there is no data in one of these. The other 3 fields appear for each entry in the Contacts pane, but they appear below the blue bar that says 'work '. It is a zip code and the name of the city that I want to be able to sort the whole by address list.

I guess that you export your Excel file to a comma separated file.
Try to include the column names until the last necessary one, in the same order and spelled as an address book.
When you export mark the part you want to use column incl. names
Open your .csv in a texteditor, y at - it no additional space, strange letters, commas, etc.

The best way to get all the names is to export an address book to a csv file

  • Moving data between address book records

Virtually all of my entries in the address book are in "collected addresses". I created 'Family' and 'Politicians' folders to organize them. Is it possible to move the entries in a folder to another in addition to manually copy the data, and then deleting the entry from the "source"? I was hoping 'drag and drop' might work, but sorry, no bananas today.

I don't know what kind of Windows you use that drag-and - déposer works with right click. It is always the left click.

    Glad you figured it out.

  • Why thunderbird don't remember e-mail addresses that I posted, except if they are in my address book

    Hello
It was once I used or that you have entered an email address in thunderbird it would be seized semiautomatic even if she was not in my addressbook, but just used before.
due to unreliability of the Government and the industry, I've never used the addressbook. This has prevented me and friends of some software malware and crippleware that is designed to steal my email addresses.
However in the thunderbird new edition autocomplete no longer work and that means I have to create an addressbook.
What does the Organization mozilla with my email addresses? I see no other reason to force people to this action as to accommodate criminals or Governments.
Please explain to me why it is done and how it allows the user (that's me, not the nsa) because after 10 years I'm now seriously dumping Thunderbird as a mail client.

Thunderbird has since V3 automatically added to the collected address book addresses of outgoing mail, he then Auto filling when you type. If you used the address book.

    You may disable this option?

BTW, it may have escaped your notice, but Thunderbird stores its data on your computer. I have no idea where the paranoia on Mozilla having or wanting to your address book, but only those who have access to your computer have access to your data to Thunderbird.

Already, the NSA have each email that you have sent, or do it, if they want. They certainly have access to which you mail as it is impossible to deliver the mail to an address if it is not available for the software to do the routing.

The Government have access to paper mail passes through the sorting machine and have access to anything written outside of the envelope. Yes! It goes the same for e-mail. From and to match the information written outside of an envelope. The big difference is that the email is sent in the clear, so it's the digital equivalent of a postcard. Someone snooping transmissions (read up on Wireshark as an example of how it's done) has access to the complete transmission without any form of encryption.

Click the Start button, type contacts, then open the Contacts program, then click on the button import, then select the address book (.wab) Windows file and select your OE address book. Then, click on the export button and select comma-delimited (csv) format. Once you have the csv file, you must open in a program editor or csv spreadsheet and organize columns to match the layout of the TB address book. Finally, in TB, select Tools/import... • How can I remove an address book

I have several address lists, one for each organization I am involved as well as a personal address book. I need to remove several address books. How can I do?

It was that I'd get a list of my books addresses directly from the mail toolbar when I clicked on address book. This is no longer the case.

The list of address books comes when I go to write mode, click the arrow next to AddressBook. Make a right click on the name of the address book does nothing. The other way for me to see the list of address books is to go to tools, address book. When I click on new entry or new list I can see a list of address books, but again, no option is available when I right-click.

  • BlackBerry smartphone address book Sync & office 6

    HI all -

I'm trying to synchronize the data in the address book out of Outlook 2007 my boss for a Blackberry Pearl 8130 it sync with Desktop Sotware V 6.0.1.18. It is currently running Windows 7 Hm Prem 64 Bit.

The BB Pearl is a phone just now (no data connection) when he wants to transfer the address book for the use of the telephone directory.

I downloaded its address book of its Outlook to a CSV file & tried to do a sync 1 way to the BlackBerry device. He already has another BB curve which is sync would be its prospects & we also have a serivce Hosted Exchange configured to its Outlook & BB curve.

The software I tried to go through the option synchronize data, but it gives me error messages or think I need to select the data to be transferred, under the Organizer/configure parameters.

Is there a bug in this new DS software?

    Thank you

    Rob

For those interested - I have solved my problem.

I end up installing the software of BB DM 6.0 on my PC (Win Xp Pro SP3) & taking the battery out of the BB Pearl for a few minutes.

I tried to start the synchronization & initially got the Intellisyc error # (0 x 80040057) when you try to import an Outlook PST file.

I've deleted the Intellisync my tried & hard drive folder, but got the same error code. I then tried to import again, but from a CSV file. This has worked but noticed some data missing. I checked the field mapping & noticed some fields that the ASCII importer expected was different from the CSV file. I've renamed some of the fields in the CSV file & data transfer worked well!

Don't know if some of the questions I had initially with the BB DM 6.0 on the laptop of my boss was that it was running Windows 7 64 Bit, or I need to make a difficult start of the BB Pearl by removing the battery...

  • Convert the 'new' MSN address book to import in Thunderbird

As far as I know, the new MSN mail/explore has is no longer an export option. The only thing you can do is print the list and I did it in a PDF file, but first of all lost a LOT of printer paper. As near as I can tell, the file format is a bit difficult convert one CSV file, other than by hand, which would take a lot of time. I started to do on Excel, but it would take a very long time. So, I would even be willing to pay for a service/program that would be capable of generating a CSV file in format of Thunderbird. I'd appreciate any help or ideas. Please note that MSN has changed; everything what you google or Thunderbird until help, won't work because there is no longer an export feature. I would love to know that I missed something! Sheila

Try this: go to the MSN home page, click the icon of Outlook.com in the top left to connect to your (msn, hotmail, outlook, live) e-mail, go to the Inbox, click on the application icon next to Outlook.com icon at the top on the left, click on people, click Manage / 'Export for Outlook.com and other services', save the OutlookContacts.csv file.

To prepare the csv file to import into TB, see this post. You want to organize the csv columns to better match the layout of the TB address book.
