  I understand that whenever you try to open your HP Deskjet F4440, a dialog box appears indicating that I can not open the program, unless I have download Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer and you cannot scan. I'm happy to help you!

  It is possible that there could be a software conflict with Adobe. In order to know for sure I would suggest the following:

  • Uninstall the printer software. Uninstalling the printer software.
  • Clean boot the computer. How to perform a boot in Windows.
  • Re-install using the printer HP install wizard for Windows.

  If this does not resolve the problem, then I would recommend contact the Support from Adobe.

  HP Solution Center is programmed a little funny.  It requires the Flash for IE extension to run.  I don't know why, but it's necessary.  Once you download that, everything should work fine.  Let me know what happens.

  Yes, just go to tools and then add-ons and Plugins. You can enable or disable your plugins from there pretty easily. Read Uninstall modules, under the disabling extensions section.

  The Adobe Reader plugin is not supported in Chrome. The chrome team decided to withdraw the support of plugins like Adobe Reader NPAPI. Here is a blog that describes their decision - chrome Blog: The Final Countdown for NPAPI

  On Windows, it is always possible to change the behavior to look at a PDF Chrome default by configuring plugins (chrome://plugins).

  Google was planning to depreciate the NPAPI plugin for quite some time. According to this post chrome Blog: The Final Countdown for NPAPI NPAPI plugins will be disabled by default in April 2015.  This post contains instructions on disabling default plugin for substitution.  If you have the latest version of Chrome (42) it's probably why you don't see it there.
