  I didn't use the phone a lot.
  I noticed in the last days the fan made a static/crackling sound power, seems to come from the fan (on the upper right corner) when it turns.

  Is this normal?
  I think back to the retailer and asking for Exchange?

  No, this isn't a common behavior of laptop and I don t think that the sound or noise is normal.

• Downgrade XP on new laptop Satellite

  Hi all

  im going to get a new laptop. However, the XP downgrade option is a must. Now ive seen a lot of laptops Toshiba with an XP downgrade option. I prefer XP some ive games wont run on 7 and XP is less show and generally runs faster. (or not?)

  I was looking at some laptops on ebay where they have XP downgrade option.
  Watching: graphics HD 5165, downgrade XP, i5 - 520 M processor option, $1100

  However, I was looking at JB Hi Fi catalog and have a:
  i5 - 520 M, HD 5650, Blu - ray, $1200 graphics

  much of the rest is the same (HARD drive, screen, HDMI, eSATA)

  so I figure I get the best map chart + blu - ray (but probably not XP) drive for $100 more.

  However, JB Hi Fi does not which model of laptop is. Only that it is a Satellite (I think) 15.6 "...
  In addition, it says nothing about a downgrade XP. Now, if I understand correctly, this is usually an option. IM wondering if JB Hi Fi does not have a XP disk, I can get it else where, and if so, how is it likely to cost?

  For me, it looks like Satellite L650. If this laptop model is not available with Windows XP Home edition recovery option, you will not be able to get the original recovery for Windows XP Home edition disk.
  As far as I know a limited number only of nine models are complete WXP supported. Before you buy it to talk with them and ask if this laptop model is supported WXP.

  You can also use support US http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp page to see if this model is supported. Of course when you get accurate and model model name umber.

  Sorry, but I cannot say more than that at the moment.

  I have a Satellite P100-160 running Windows 7 32 bit. At the beginning the sound works normally, but after a period in mode 'sleep' there is no sound - all the indicators show the green bars on the rise and fall as if working normally.

  If restarting the laptop the sound back up to an additional period in mode "Eve". There is also no sound through headphones if plugged. I uninstalled the driver and allowed the computer to automatically download the latest driver.

  Can anyone suggest a solution?

  The whole story is a bit strange. Are you sure that you have connected the adapter to the power outlet? The fact is that adapter sends the power to the laptop and it has priority. The battery will be charged high school.

  Remove the battery and use your laptop with power adapter only and I'm sure you can use it for hours without any problem.

  In Windows 7. Open the properties of the sounds by right clicking on the audio icon on the taskbar (in the form of a speaker), and then click "reading devices". A list of playback devices. We'll call the speakers/headphones or speakers. If that one does not say "Default Device", then right-click on it and make it the default playback device.

  If it does not help reinstall your sound driver. Open Device Manager (click the Start button, then type or paste it into the area of research devmgmt.msc and click on the first item that appears). Expand the sound... Category of controllers. Find your audio driver and right-click on it. Select this option to uninstall. Do NOT select the option to delete or remove the files. Reboot the laptop. Windows will be re - install the driver from the files that were not deleted, but the pilot is now reset to its original configuration. In other words that the problem will be resolved if it was due to a bad configuration of the driver settings, because the default behavior is to let him play the audio through the headphones or the speakers.

  I can't tell you the exact name of your audio driver in Device Manager because you did not provide the name of full model of your laptop, but it's Realtek, Conexant, or IDT high definition Audio Device (or Codec).   Go to Dell in the above link > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > get latest Windows 7 drivers (Audio, etc.) for it > download/install them.

  One thing that can help is a bit what follows.  Do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "playback devices".  Left click the device once to highlight default (it is usually 'speakers & headphones') and then click the properties button.  Click the enhancements tab and put a check mark in the box "Loudness equalization.  Click on apply to save the changes and then click OK in all other windows and see if allowed at all.

• Suggestions for a new laptop - perhaps Satellite Pro L550-17U

  Didn't know where to ask it is here in the General category.

  I'm looking for a laptop replacement with some specificity. I can get most of them, but the last of them is difficult. If the requirements are:

  17 "screen with a horizontal resolution at least 1600.
  Minimum of 4 GB of RAM (8 would be nice)
  Running Windows 7 64-bit
  Bluetooth

  and finally, the duck:

  Supports Intel VT (Virtualization Technology)

  I thought that the Satellite Pro L550-17U would be OK, but looking at the Intel site, it does not seem that T6570 processor supports VT and it must be supported in the BIOS even when, and nothing in the spec says that it will be.

  Any person able to provide any help please? I would stay with Toshiba, as I had this high reliability of them, but would consider other fact (sorry Toshiba) if it is the only option.

  In my opinion the most important question is: how much you are willing to pay for the new laptop?
  Satellite L is OK, but don't forget that the L-series is, in general, not the best model of Satellite.

  I bought a new Toshiba Satellite L655-1FO before 5 days, I have install all the driver on XP one my sound work ok, but today I connect my headset and I didn t hear sounds like the music, just a few scratches sound and when I disconnect my helmet, there is no more sound from my PC.

  I restarted but the problem remains. What's happen with my pc, is it broken?

  You must understand that no one here can say with certainty whether or not something is broken. We just speculate what may be the problem.

  I recommend you to install Windows XP Home edition once more to see if this problem will be solved. Otherwise, contact your local dealer and ask for replacement.

  In the headphone port, there is little switch that turn off internal speakers when external speakers are connected. Maybe this switch stuck somehow. Who knows?

  Hi all

  I bought a new laptop and I need to transfer the datga from my old laptop (Toshiba P20-504 running Win XP MCE) to my new (an other manufactuers laptop model 9815 running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition). I took the HARD drive on my old laptop, put it in a shopping cart, so I hook the drive up to my new laptop computer and use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer more parameters, files etc...

  While my new laptop seems to know that something connects (i.e. it makes the sound link), it is not recognize my old HARD drive Toshiba is in Windows Explorer. Any ideas? I guess I need the driver for the HARD drive installed in my laptop for the new laptop can recognize it's there. How can I download this?

  It would be really interesting.
  Regarding this pilot thing: you don t need a driver for a HARD drive that has been connected for example hollow USB.

  Also I suggest you do not use all the weird windows tools because it would be better to copy everything on your first HARD drive to the drive your computer to another HARD and then unravel and so on...
